Agreed, i used them for 24 years, never had a single instance in over 100 deer shot of them failing. Im on my 3rd year of Barnes TTSX now and the results have been incredible so far.
I have to put a plug in for the Hammer bullets. They are different from the Barnes because they kinda act like a Nosler Partisan because the front half breaks apart doing massive internal damage. The bottom half penetrates all the way through. Plus, you have no lead in your meat. They are also extremely accurate! To me, that’s about as perfect a bullet as you could ask for! Good video bro!
Exactly there is no way anyone could verify that a bullet truly “penciled” through an animal unless they find a fully intact bullet with no mushroom afterwards. Mono and bonded do make similar size entrance and exit holes making it “seem” like penciling through but they are provide a large temporary and permanent wound channel which people cannot see easily.
Had a barnes ttsx fail, technically mushroomed but did very little damage. All pedals were gone and the diameter was roughly .400. Wound cavities i could inspect were bullet diameter. Never seen a white tail take a frontal shot and run 200 yards before that. Hit several bones on the way through and changed direction several times. Not sure why even on elk or moose, people think they need 30"+ of penetration. So id call that verified. Just my take
@@dantep5570what caliber where you using? What was the distance to the deer? And you need 30 inches on an elk or moose in case they turn at the shot and you hit it in the butt, or you hit a limb before hitting your critter. Use the caliber/bullet that is gonna work when conditions arent ideal and unforseen factors or scenarios come into play. One that gives you a margin for error in case you need it, as field conditions are never static or perfect. A 22lr will kill an elk when conditions are perfect, that doesnt make it a good caliber or bullet for elk hunting.
All bullets have a weakness or two. You found one on that frontal shot. I'd expect it was a fairly close shot if it lost all the petals. The other, in my experience, is poor expansion at low-ish velocity. I push them really fast, and favor high shoulder shots, and they're extremely lethal in that scenario. Then again, it could have been a flukey thing with that frontal shot. Weird things happen to bullets at mach 3 lol.

Ive seen soft bullets (sst/eldx) make it throuh moose quarters on quatering shots and didnt go that deep and still killed just fine penetrating 20ish inches. Also not my place to judge but if youre shooting and have the potential to hit an animal in the ass you should pass on the shot or hit the range more. Cheers
I think the trick is to match up the right bullet with the right application. Depending on how "hard" the bullet is you will get different results at different ranges. Longer shots and slower velocities require a bullet which opens up easier, while such a bullet will make a mess close up at faster velocities. Vice-versa, a bullet which requires more speed to open up maybe won't work at longer ranges or in slower calibers. Understanding how bullets work will help you make the right choice.
The good old gold standard nosler partition . It was born from a British Columbia moose hunt . John nosler shot a moose 6 times with target style bullets with a 375 h&h . Only one of the 6 penetrated vitals . The rest blew to pieces …and guess what ..the magic “energy dump “ didn’t kill it …the one that penetrated lungs did . 😂. When he got home he designed the nosler partition.
John used a Time Machine then came forward to today picked up some Hornady ELD’s, then went back to his time. And Wala failed target bullets on a hunt. 😂
My all-time go to is the Partition. Yes, there are higher BC bullets and yatta-yatta, but these just work 100% My primary rifle is a Remington 700 action chambered in 7MM, with 24" carbon barrel. Deer and other light game in 160 gr., and elk in 175gr. Load development is easy because pressure rise is very consistent (unlike monolithic). My loads develop great accuracy and 100% terminal performance. If I do my part, the bullet drops them where they stand. There is a reason these have a cult-like following - they just work.
Side note Ultra high SD Hornaday interlocks are the best budget option ive found. (Something with a SD of 0.300+) 160gr 6.5mm 175gr 7mm 200gr & 220gr 30cal 250gr - 0.338 I feel as if for everything outside of the super duper magnums, these would be great, i can attest that the 175gr (7mm-08) thumps deer hard inside of 250 yards - my father and grand father swore by the 30-06 with 220gr corelokts in the new england deer woods. Deer, black bear, moose, even the occasional coyote that was harrasing the chickens around dawn-dusk. Shorts were short but my father put 1 in a moose full frontal @ 30 yards and it just dropped. They were also fans of the 170gr FP & 180gr RN interlock in 300 savage as well, before the 308 or 7.62×51 was popular. Someday ill break down and get a 358 win in a savage 99 or 35 whelan in 7600 carbine and do a rememberce hunt for them
Largely I agree with you. But couple things. Something many do not realize is most of these "plastic tip" bullets is that they are in essence a HP. Being such, "coming apart" is more common place. But they generally shoot quite well. Terminal ascent is designed as it is to work well at ALL velocities, fast enough to make it expand. Complaints of failure are likely miss understanding by user. (Or a freak bad bullet) Swift A-frame get few complaints cause its not widely used. Its not seen in much commercial ammo and Ill go out on a limb, to say not at all used by the "average" hunter. It is more costly and not as wide spread. Its liked by those in the know and this type is usually more knowledgeable on what to expect. This in no way is a negative to a awesome bullet. Just simply facts. Swift Aframe was also designed in the 1980's while the Nosler Partition is pre 1950. So its the "copy" 100%, the Partitions are excellent go to over all but exceedingly rarely are the "accurate"
“Plastic tips” as you referred to them as, are a bullet feature that comes on nearly the entire spectrum of bullet types. Generalizing this as a feature of bullets that “come apart” is misleading at best, but perhaps just ignorant?
@phild9813 proven me wrong. I been at this longer and more extensively than many. I didn't say all I say most or Many. Nosler BT and Hornady SST being firsts or beginning of this style.
I've had a few less-than-stellar experiences with "target" projectiles, but other than those rare exceptions, nearly every one I have used has done a fine job. This includes some that I've cast myself out of alloys I customized for the velocity of the cartridge used. I think projectiles matter a lot less than nearly everyone believes, if used within their limitations, and they all have limitations. I used some cast in a 243, 95 grains at about 2300 fps, on a few deer one year, including a VERY large buck. They worked, but I discovered that past 100 yards, it didn't open much, and at 30 yards, it lost half its weight on impact.
I forgot one last thing BC which is ballistic coefficient.Don't make a hill of beans unless you're shooting beyond 400 yards And I would like to add that only ten percent of hunters We'll make a kill shot beyond that I know there's a bunch of people that make long shots. When you're talking about 2 million plus hunters . Maybe a Quarter of them have made extreme long range shots beyond four hundred yards . Everyone talks about these bullets for elk me and my young kids Have harvested many elk with 243,25-06 Choosing the right bullet matters.The most impressive was when my 10yr old took An elk and a bear with a 22 CM with a shock hammer bullet I do like hammer bullets. They do a phenomenal job. I harvested a moose with a 25-05 with a 101 gr hammer bullet He went 65 yd and fell over his heart looked like it was put in a blender. Again, shot placement is everything.you can use a 416 rigby If you make a bad shot odds of recovery are slim Eventually the Animal will die. The odds of recovery before the meat goes bad And the animal suffers for that long period of time.That's what matters. One last thing I wanna add. The people that put a short barrels magnum cartridge. Aren't thinking clearly. It takes x amount of inches of a barrel To burn up that powder efficiently to get the best ballistic performance out of your cartridge.And most of the time it takes 24-26 inches Minimum. I also get a laugh now at the fad to make large powder capacity cartridge rifles with short cabin like barrels, how stupid! Then the knuckle heads talking match shooting ideas for hunting another idiot Parrot mouth talker's nonsense. One of many rifles I own is a CZ 550 in 9.3x62 Mauser that I can't explain why it kills big animals so fast. I spent allot in bullets + powder + primers getting the Leupold knob numbers written down in a book to ranges I checked with range finder. My own capable with the 9.3 x62 is max 400 yards and any critter under the 400 Yard mark is dead by a Barns TSX 286 grain bullet that knuckle heads would say won't expand and make up some target shooting nonsense of that bullet. I don't have a clue what those bullets look like after whacking an animal because they all pass through.
Barnes all the way. Killed my lifetime Caribou in the Brooks Range. Two holes dropped to his knees and that was it. Two many white tail to count. And a few mule deer. Some ran some didn’t.
Swift and nosler both fixed this issue years ago. Massive damage and penetration from 5 to 500 yards with cartridges from 30-30 all the way to 30-378 weatherby with the same performance. The partition and a-frame.
Personally I shoot monolithics in my 270, 300blk and 243. So far so good absolutely kills great in all three as long as your within velocity windows. Now I started reloading these. However if I'm buying factory either remington corelokt and federal fusion. They both kill very very well especially the fusion.

Nosler partition is really the king of bullets in my Opinion, I am a member on Africa hunting and they really love swift A frame bullets working great in Africa, my thought on the penciling through of bullets, essentially I think bullets with high SD and might shear the petals off and now are only as big as the caliber then might crest small wound channel and hence a small hole exiting
I personally find the Eldx to work great on deer out of my 270 win. Does it cause a lot damage and have a tendency to come apart especially at high velocity yep but, the end result is the same as any other decent bullet put in the right spot a clean ethical kill. I shot a mature whitetail at 343 yds 2 years ago and the bullet presumably held together as it went through and through heart shot but, the one I shot last year at 120 yds bullet came apart but, the deer dropped right there. For elk and larger i would definitely lean towards either a bonded or mono to ensure good penetration.
Barnes TTSX, Nosler Accubond,Nosler Partition. Hornady ELDX is frangible Junk! Everybody is on the hunt for high BC! ELDX , even “ Interlock “ will blow up on bigger game.
I’ve had amazing results with the nosler Ablr in 175gr out of 7mm REM mag at 3000 fps. I shoot the older federal edge tlr in a 175gr 308 win at 2850 not impressed on whitetail and 200gr out of 300 wby at 3000fps does ok but still think the Ablr performs better
The partition has never failed me. Everything I have shot with the. Has not taken it well. And some rifles shoot them really well then some not so much. But that's most bullets anyways. But I would have picked the partition myself. Nice job. In my humble opinion. Lol.
If only the Partition were a little more sleek for the BC crowd. I still have a bunch that were screw machine made. Never had one fail, and lead poisoning is WAY overblown. Who eats up to the hole? THAT was a really good vid!
I found myself in a situation where due to loaning 2 out for this hunt and having parts on back order the only rifle I have is a 12.5” 300blackout for a deer trip next week here in Alaska. My bullet of choice is a 101 grain hammer blackout. Hammer bullets seem to check alot of boxes and am hoping to have good luck with this set up
I was given some 7mm Nesler Partition bullets. I was breaking in a barrel and decided to work up recipe on bullets as I broke in my barrel. I measure spread by the outside hole and not the inside center. The Nesler partition old school lower bc gave be a 1 hole group. Not a clover or a jagged hole. 1 hole 5 shot group. I am sold. And I love hornady but results don’t lie.
After the vortex podcasts 6 arc video I’m more interested in sierra’s tipped game king. Bc is not too far behind the eldx but it’s tougher and Ryan said it was the second most accurate out maybe 6 bullets he tested. It could be a good alternative if your particular rifle doesn’t like accu-bonds. They are also cheaper.
shooting a 300RUM for 24 years 180 gr partition was always the go to no elk or deer ever took a step.accubond was a good back up.some of best accuracy was barnes x(no tip) but mixed results 2 elk struck dead like hit by lighting 2 looked like they were never hit but never had gone more than 75 yards.tried hornady`s inter lock early on and had bullet blow up.i chrono my 180 partitions moving at 3490 fps
180 Federal trophy bonded tipped are 4 for 4, on one shot kills for me 2 elk (mature bull and cow) large black bear, and mule deer buck, all out of the lowly 308.
The best thing about Hornady is they add competition to the industry which helps create an overflow and keep the price down from real bullet manufacturers. The down side of Hornady is they waste valuable components making their bullets and garbage brass.
I prefer the 208Gr. LRX for 300PRC but - is it just me or do all the Barnes bullets always have the polymer tips offset to one side?? Even in your comparison picture you can see it with your batch too. Agreed on the ELD-X I used to use them due to their performance on paper and then switched over to the Barnes LRX across all of my handloads. The only Acubond I shot was the Acubond LR. I took a deer with it at about 40 yards and even with an anemic 20 inch barrel 6.5 creed it performed like the ELD-eXploders at that range and I lost a lot of meat. The traditional bonded round has been a staple for years, but as a sustenance hunter I am trying to avoid lead in my meat. Personally I think the Barnes LRX is the best balance between the harder alloy TTSX and the ELD-eXploders. Between the fact my hunting can be anything from 30-600 yards I selected the Barnes LRX, even if it blows off all of the petals at 30 yards at least it still has a passthrough and doesn't shed lead in my meat. I sent you a pic of what I got with the 175 ELDX in one of my 7PRCs with H1000 @ 3000fps. Shoots so well I loaded up 80 rounds with that Federal nickel brass. For deer 300 pounds and under they seem to work just fine, especially the lighter wt deer I hunt in Alabama. No issues last year with them and ELDM but again, these deer are 225 pounds and smaller. That rifle and my newest 280AI with factory 155 Terminal Ascent are the first 2 I'm using this season. If what people say about the monolithics is true, which is more states are going to outlaw lead core for hunting, I'll have to focus on Barnes LRX and similar. But I don't see that happening in my lifetime. Ultimately, I get a bit tickled when hunters speak about failed bullets.....while they are processing their game meat. I honestly don't care what the slug ends up looking like or whether it passed through or I recovered it or parts of it. I've used a big number of bullets in just about every construction you can think of. I've lost only one animal while using a rifle and it was a 45 yard shot on a CO muley quartering to me. Shot him with a 140 Nosler Accubond out of a 270 Win and knocked him down like a bag of concrete. When I approached him he got up and ran....a very long way.
@@ReloadingWeatherby Correct. The cheapest bullets like S&B cup/core, Federal Power Shok, Norma Whitetail, plain Speer boat-tails, etc, do the job just fine. My 2 biggest mule deer dropped to a 130 Federal Power Shok and a 168 Berger VLD.
Complaints of accuracy are (in my opinion) based on the more abrupt ogive. I work on seating depth to just show seating against the lands, which seats the bullet out shorter than seems normal. As long as the bullet just shows land marks, then go with that. If you have too much jump, or the bullet forced into the lands, then accuracy will not happen with the Partition.
Great video. I Agree with you on the most part. First of all there is paper punching accuracy and then then is hunting accuracy. ELDX= Paper punching accuracy but terrible performance on game. Loving these Terminal Assent Bullets. The penetration, the expansion and expansion at longer ranges is there. Accubonds just kill and kill exceptionally well at standard hunting ranges, love them. Partition are the gold standard and tough to beat. Killed everything but cape buffalo in Africa with an 06 and 180gn partitions. No failures just dead critters. Why spend the money on a hunt and go cheap on the bullets. I have never understood it. I guide trophy whitetail hunts and cringe when hunters show up with the old green and yellow box or ELDX or other cheap ammo. I understand price if just paper punching but, on an animal, that's costing several thousands of dollars why scrimp.
I can only talk about axis deer and wild boars but federal fusions let me down. Many animals dropped and then ran away and couldn’t find them. Guess they are too tough for them, very little blood trail to follow also. C&C bullets create a more violent expansion and kill faster, they sure don’t look as nice but they get things dead
Hammer Bullets for the win. Hard to find a bullet that performs well at both high velocity and low velocity impacts - impact velocity is thing. Nosler Partitions were my gold standard until I found Hammers, which seem to offer better accuracy, better speed and a wider velocity window with the most consistent terminal performance I have seen.
Missing the swift scirocco they have an interesting ogive that requires playing with seating depth but they are generally fool proof on game at any range with a particularly good BC
I think too many people are asking what type of bullet? rather than what size bullet? Everyone is chasing high bc bullets now causing velocites to drop but there is something to be said about how big of an impact velocity does make, especially at ethical hunting distances where bc doesnt matter that much. Just speaking from experience I've noticed when you're shooting 3200+fps it seems to out down animals a lot more effectively than slower cartridges regardless of what bullet you are using.
Hornady bullets appear to pencil through because there’s so little of them left when they exit if they exist at all or even make it to the vitals. A quartering shoot with a Hornady bullet is almost 💯 guaranteed to go wrong. HORNADY because it looks good a paper. And we all know how that goes. A BB gun can look good on paper.
I shot a doe at 130 yards with a 225 gr accubond out of a 338 rum and didn’t get an exit she was quartering to me I was blown away by that and so was she 😂

You say that a terminal ascent, or a Barnes that loses its petals upfront and leaves the shank to continue through the animal is a failure, yet you say a Nosler partition that does exactly the same thing is the best bullet ever. I think you owe a better explanation than that. Even the hammer bullets are designed to lose their front Aerodome so that the shank is allowed to proceeded through the rest of the animal. Let me make some clarifications... This video was about what the viewers have said is the most consistent bullet. The Nosler Partition is not my favorite bullet. My favorite is the Nosler Accubond. The Terminal Ascent losing the front half of the bullet is considered a failure because it's not suppose to do that. Do I think it's the end of the world? Nope. The Partition is designed to have the front half of the bullet come apart. It's expected to do that.
Their Are 2 Types of Nosler Partition Bullets - Ones That Have The Lead Exposed and Ones That Don't! The Ones With The Exposed Lead Coud Be Easily Deformed and, Therefore, Effected Accuracy!

Monolithic bullets designed to expand at low velocities do exactly that. 115 tac-tx is a fantastic whitetail getter out of a 6.5 Grendel.
Federal fusion/tipped, bondstrike, Speer impact, and ablr are my favorites.

There were no "target style" projectiles in 375 caliber in the 50's.
Haha yeah the idea that someone was shooting target bullets in a 375 H&H back then makes me laugh.
The caliber was a 300 H&H with 180 gr bullets.
Except there was no such thing as target bullets for a .375 H&H in 1948 and John Nosler wasn't using a .375.

I feel as if for everything outside of the super duper magnums, these would be great, i can attest that the 175gr (7mm-08) thumps deer hard inside of 250 yards - my father and grand father swore by the 30-06 with 220gr corelokts in the new england deer woods. Deer, black bear, moose, even the occasional coyote that was harrasing the chickens around dawn-dusk. Shorts were short but my father put 1 in a moose full frontal @ 30 yards and it just dropped.
They were also fans of the 170gr FP & 180gr RN interlock in 300 savage as well, before the 308 or 7.62×51 was popular.
Someday ill break down and get a 358 win in a savage 99 or 35 whelan in 7600 carbine and do a rememberce hunt for them

Largely I agree with you. But couple things.
Something many do not realize is most of these "plastic tip" bullets is that they are in essence a HP. Being such, "coming apart" is more common place. But they generally shoot quite well.
Terminal ascent is designed as it is to work well at ALL velocities, fast enough to make it expand.
Complaints of failure are likely miss understanding by user. (Or a freak bad bullet)
Swift A-frame get few complaints cause its not widely used. Its not seen in much commercial ammo and Ill go out on a limb, to say not at all used by the "average" hunter. It is more costly and not as wide spread. Its liked by those in the know and this type is usually more knowledgeable on what to expect. This in no way is a negative to a awesome bullet. Just simply facts.
Swift Aframe was also designed in the 1980's while the Nosler Partition is pre 1950. So its the "copy"
100%, the Partitions are excellent go to over all but exceedingly rarely are the "accurate"

“Plastic tips” as you referred to them as, are a bullet feature that comes on nearly the entire spectrum of bullet types. Generalizing this as a feature of bullets that “come apart” is misleading at best, but perhaps just ignorant?

The most reliable bullet is the one that is placed correctly in the kill zone
I've had a few less-than-stellar experiences with "target" projectiles, but other than those rare exceptions, nearly every one I have used has done a fine job. This includes some that I've cast myself out of alloys I customized for the velocity of the cartridge used. I think projectiles matter a lot less than nearly everyone believes, if used within their limitations, and they all have limitations.
I used some cast in a 243, 95 grains at about 2300 fps, on a few deer one year, including a VERY large buck. They worked, but I discovered that past 100 yards, it didn't open much, and at 30 yards, it lost half its weight on impact.

No problem with Barnes or partitions, looking into north forks, but nothing ever got away from me, never was a fan of Hornadys

The people that put a short barrels magnum cartridge.

One of many rifles I own is a CZ 550 in 9.3x62 Mauser that I can't explain why it kills big animals so fast.
I spent allot in bullets + powder + primers getting the Leupold knob numbers written down in a book to ranges I checked with range finder.
My own capable with the 9.3 x62 is max 400 yards and any critter under the 400 Yard mark is dead by a Barns TSX 286 grain bullet that knuckle heads would say won't expand and make up some target shooting nonsense of that bullet.
I don't have a clue what those bullets look like after whacking an animal because they all pass through.
Barnes all the way. Killed my lifetime Caribou in the Brooks Range. Two holes dropped to his knees and that was it. Two many white tail to count. And a few mule deer. Some ran some didn’t.
Swift and nosler both fixed this issue years ago. Massive damage and penetration from 5 to 500 yards with cartridges from 30-30 all the way to 30-378 weatherby with the same performance. The partition and a-frame.
Personally I shoot monolithics in my 270, 300blk and 243. So far so good absolutely kills great in all three as long as your within velocity windows. Now I started reloading these. However if I'm buying factory either remington corelokt and federal fusion. They both kill very very well especially the fusion.
Barnes TSX for 300 WSM, TTSX for 338 win and Nosler e-tip for 257 Weatherby. Berger VLD hunting is pretty rockin in the 264.

Opinion, I am a member on Africa hunting and they really love swift A frame bullets working great in Africa, my thought on the penciling through of bullets, essentially I think bullets with high SD and might shear the petals off and now are only as big as the caliber then might crest small wound channel and hence a small hole exiting
I personally find the Eldx to work great on deer out of my 270 win. Does it cause a lot damage and have a tendency to come apart especially at high velocity yep but, the end result is the same as any other decent bullet put in the right spot a clean ethical kill. I shot a mature whitetail at 343 yds 2 years ago and the bullet presumably held together as it went through and through heart shot but, the one I shot last year at 120 yds bullet came apart but, the deer dropped right there. For elk and larger i would definitely lean towards either a bonded or mono to ensure good penetration.

ELD-X are fine at sub 2,500FPS imoact velocity .They are designed as a longrange bullet.
I’ve had amazing results with the nosler Ablr in 175gr out of 7mm REM mag at 3000 fps. I shoot the older federal edge tlr in a 175gr 308 win at 2850 not impressed on whitetail and 200gr out of 300 wby at 3000fps does ok but still think the Ablr performs better

The partition has never failed me. Everything I have shot with the. Has not taken it well. And some rifles shoot them really well then some not so much. But that's most bullets anyways. But I would have picked the partition myself. Nice job. In my humble opinion. Lol.

If only the Partition were a little more sleek for the BC crowd. I still have a bunch that were screw machine made. Never had one fail, and lead poisoning is WAY overblown. Who eats up to the hole? THAT was a really good vid!

I found myself in a situation where due to loaning 2 out for this hunt and having parts on back order the only rifle I have is a 12.5” 300blackout for a deer trip next week here in Alaska. My bullet of choice is a 101 grain hammer blackout. Hammer bullets seem to check alot of boxes and am hoping to have good luck with this set up

I was given some 7mm Nesler Partition bullets.
I was breaking in a barrel and decided to work up recipe on bullets as I broke in my barrel.
I measure spread by the outside hole and not the inside center.
The Nesler partition old school lower bc gave be a 1 hole group. Not a clover or a jagged hole. 1 hole 5 shot group. I am sold.
And I love hornady but results don’t lie.

After the vortex podcasts 6 arc video I’m more interested in sierra’s tipped game king. Bc is not too far behind the eldx but it’s tougher and Ryan said it was the second most accurate out maybe 6 bullets he tested. It could be a good alternative if your particular rifle doesn’t like accu-bonds. They are also cheaper.
shooting a 300RUM for 24 years 180 gr partition was always the go to no elk or deer ever took a step.accubond was a good back up.some of best accuracy was barnes x(no tip) but mixed results 2 elk struck dead like hit by lighting 2 looked like they were never hit but never had gone more than 75 yards.tried hornady`s inter lock early on and had bullet blow up.i chrono my 180 partitions moving at 3490 fps
180 Federal trophy bonded tipped are 4 for 4, on one shot kills for me 2 elk (mature bull and cow) large black bear, and mule deer buck, all out of the lowly 308.

The best thing about Hornady is they add competition to the industry which helps create an overflow and keep the price down from real bullet manufacturers. The down side of Hornady is they waste valuable components making their bullets and garbage brass.

Agreed on the ELD-X I used to use them due to their performance on paper and then switched over to the Barnes LRX across all of my handloads.
The only Acubond I shot was the Acubond LR. I took a deer with it at about 40 yards and even with an anemic 20 inch barrel 6.5 creed it performed like the ELD-eXploders at that range and I lost a lot of meat.
The traditional bonded round has been a staple for years, but as a sustenance hunter I am trying to avoid lead in my meat.
Personally I think the Barnes LRX is the best balance between the harder alloy TTSX and the ELD-eXploders.
Between the fact my hunting can be anything from 30-600 yards I selected the Barnes LRX, even if it blows off all of the petals at 30 yards at least it still has a passthrough and doesn't shed lead in my meat.

I sent you a pic of what I got with the 175 ELDX in one of my 7PRCs with H1000 @ 3000fps. Shoots so well I loaded up 80 rounds with that Federal nickel brass. For deer 300 pounds and under they seem to work just fine, especially the lighter wt deer I hunt in Alabama. No issues last year with them and ELDM but again, these deer are 225 pounds and smaller. That rifle and my newest 280AI with factory 155 Terminal Ascent are the first 2 I'm using this season. If what people say about the monolithics is true, which is more states are going to outlaw lead core for hunting, I'll have to focus on Barnes LRX and similar. But I don't see that happening in my lifetime. Ultimately, I get a bit tickled when hunters speak about failed bullets.....while they are processing their game meat. I honestly don't care what the slug ends up looking like or whether it passed through or I recovered it or parts of it. I've used a big number of bullets in just about every construction you can think of. I've lost only one animal while using a rifle and it was a 45 yard shot on a CO muley quartering to me. Shot him with a 140 Nosler Accubond out of a 270 Win and knocked him down like a bag of concrete. When I approached him he got up and ran....a very long way.

@@ReloadingWeatherby Correct. The cheapest bullets like S&B cup/core, Federal Power Shok, Norma Whitetail, plain Speer boat-tails, etc, do the job just fine. My 2 biggest mule deer dropped to a 130 Federal Power Shok and a 168 Berger VLD.

Classic Speer spitzer boat tails, cheap, accurate(in my experience), reliable and deadly.
Complaints of accuracy are (in my opinion) based on the more abrupt ogive. I work on seating depth to just show seating against the lands, which seats the bullet out shorter than seems normal. As long as the bullet just shows land marks, then go with that. If you have too much jump, or the bullet forced into the lands, then accuracy will not happen with the Partition.

I reload for my 300WM. I use 180gr Nosler Partition, but this year I am trying the Speer 190gr Impact.
For my 308Win, I use Speer 165gr SPBT.

Great video. I Agree with you on the most part. First of all there is paper punching accuracy and then then is hunting accuracy. ELDX= Paper punching accuracy but terrible performance on game. Loving these Terminal Assent Bullets. The penetration, the expansion and expansion at longer ranges is there. Accubonds just kill and kill exceptionally well at standard hunting ranges, love them. Partition are the gold standard and tough to beat. Killed everything but cape buffalo in Africa with an 06 and 180gn partitions. No failures just dead critters. Why spend the money on a hunt and go cheap on the bullets. I have never understood it. I guide trophy whitetail hunts and cringe when hunters show up with the old green and yellow box or ELDX or other cheap ammo. I understand price if just paper punching but, on an animal, that's costing several thousands of dollars why scrimp.

I can only talk about axis deer and wild boars but federal fusions let me down. Many animals dropped and then ran away and couldn’t find them. Guess they are too tough for them, very little blood trail to follow also. C&C bullets create a more violent expansion and kill faster, they sure don’t look as nice but they get things dead

Hard to find a bullet that performs well at both high velocity and low velocity impacts - impact velocity is thing.
Nosler Partitions were my gold standard until I found Hammers, which seem to offer better accuracy, better speed and a wider velocity window with the most consistent terminal performance I have seen.

Missing the swift scirocco they have an interesting ogive that requires playing with seating depth but they are generally fool proof on game at any range with a particularly good BC

I think too many people are asking what type of bullet? rather than what size bullet? Everyone is chasing high bc bullets now causing velocites to drop but there is something to be said about how big of an impact velocity does make, especially at ethical hunting distances where bc doesnt matter that much. Just speaking from experience I've noticed when you're shooting 3200+fps it seems to out down animals a lot more effectively than slower cartridges regardless of what bullet you are using.

Hornady bullets appear to pencil through because there’s so little of them left when they exit if they exist at all or even make it to the vitals. A quartering shoot with a Hornady bullet is almost 💯 guaranteed to go wrong. HORNADY because it looks good a paper. And we all know how that goes. A BB gun can look good on paper.

OK, you were losing credibility here. You say that a terminal ascent, or a Barnes that loses its petals upfront and leaves the shank to continue through the animal is a failure, yet you say a Nosler partition that does exactly the same thing is the best bullet ever. I think you owe a better explanation than that. Even the hammer bullets are designed to lose their front Aerodome so that the shank is allowed to proceeded through the rest of the animal. Let me make some clarifications... This video was about what the viewers have said is the most consistent bullet. The Nosler Partition is not my favorite bullet. My favorite is the Nosler Accubond. The Terminal Ascent losing the front half of the bullet is considered a failure because it's not suppose to do that. Do I think it's the end of the world? Nope. The Partition is designed to have the front half of the bullet come apart. It's expected to do that.
This is serious stuff. Earth shattering stuff. NOT !!! Still fun though.
