    You can improve your aim in any VR FPS game, but following the traditional, pancake FPS aim training methods won't usually cut it. Because VR is so different from desktop games, you need to train differently. In this video, I show you the ins and outs of how to improve your aim with aim training in any of the most popular VR FPS games.
    Although my personal favorite is Onward, what I talk about in this video applies to Pavlov, Contractors, Population: One, and every other VR FPS game out there which focuses on using realistic weapons (or at least somewhat realistic - looking at you, Pop1!).

    Some Mechanical Tips and Tricks I've Learned to Aim Better Without a Gunstock:
    1. When using a rifle, try to distance your hands as much as possible (e.g. if you're right handed, right hand close to your face, and left and as far as your arm can reach). One issue while shooting without a stock is the little shakes and jitters your hands have while holding near-weightless controllers. Due to a matter of angles, the further your hands are away from each other, the less these little jitters will actually translate into barrel movement, which can help with shot stability and more precision shots.
    2. Aim with your front hand: as long as you keep your rear hand in a consistent spot relatively close to your face, when you need to aim, you can just point your front arm at the target. This allows for a "natural point of aim" aiming style, and if you practice a bit you can usually get to the point where you point your front arm at the target and the sights will be on it.
    3. Trigger control and breath control do actually kind of matter. Not as much as with a real firearm ofc, as the trigger pull on an oculus controller is very very light, but you can still jerk the trigger. Same thing for breath control- not hyper important, but holding your breath, or waiting until you're breathing out to break a shot, can give just enough stability at long range to make a precision shot.
    4. depending on your preferences, using the "virtual stock" option most games have can be useful to help stabilize shots. However, how these virtual stocks vary in quality from game to game. In onward, it basically snaps the rifle into your shoulder like a magnet, automatically lines up your sights, and greatly stabilizes any shot. This can be helpful, but also might feel annoying as it's a very overbearing and aggressive virtual stock. Pavlov's and Contractor's virtual stocks are practically useless. The game I think does it best is H3VR, as it makes it seem like you actually have a stock going into your shoulder without feeling "magnetic" like in Onward. Overall, it's worth trying out.
    Any other tips that come to mind were covered in the video. Just some things that have helped me to aim better in my VR journey. Maybe some will work for you, maybe some won't.

    I'll say it,: I only finally bought Onward about a week ago. And yes, I've already gone into competitive lobbies.
    After that I have been spending a lot of time on the shooting range.
    Focused mainly on getting smooth at reloading and using utilities.
    I'm using a pro tube so there's been a steep learning curve but it's getting quicker every time.
    One thing that has me hesitating in games is not team killing. Many times I've had a enemy in my sights and I've hesitated, and it got me killed.

    What I notice is a lot of more experience players go through a cycle where you always use rifles then eventually you start using lmg’s then after you dip your toes in you get addicted to being able to just shoot anything and then sometime after that you start to choose guns depending on the map then depending on the obj then depending on the situation like how they’ve been playing it’s really weird not really

    I think people don’t realize that vr aim quite literally reflects off your real life gun skills. Your real life hand eye coordination, and your steadiness. One great thing I’ve learned for improving aim (other than having years worth of growing up shooting and playing sports) is target ranges, preferably the contractors range when you’re in the lobby and can activate the timed shooting

    • @hitmanhartman1394
      @hitmanhartman1394 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TrTriTrippin that’s a big issue too, muscle memory for shooting helps, otherwise the only way to help that is get one of those gun stocks. By no means. In vr the gun has to be much more centered in realtion to your middle chest region, to get the red dot visible. A real rifle is held in a way that lets your right eye (if right handed shooting) look through the scope, while the left eye just looks ahead. Kept trying to do this in vr but that’s just not how it works in vr it seems.

  • @supernate760
    @supernate760 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If you don’t have a stock and can’t afford one, get a certain weapon and press the controller on your chest and chin, it gets the scope close and also helps stable aim, especially with a bipod. When laying down, you use the ground to stabilize the controllers (Certain weapons like the SVD and M16A4 scopes are too close, only good with bipod).

    I've seen how Lmgs and snipers really require stock use. Rifles, shotguns and smgs don't really needs a stock I feel. I've become a rifleman only because of this with light shotgun use. I found I can snipe using a 2x scope pretty decently but in the end using a rifle is best. I've also got to see how underrated shotguns are. Primarily shotguns allow fast ttk and at times allows you drop more then one target in a single shot. Then allows you to hit moving targets more easily. Lastly more gear utilities like flashlights and more grenade, C4, stunning, smoke etc..

When I was freehanding I would keep my elbows tucked and hold the gun closer to my face, and I would crouch a lot so I could rest my elbow on my thigh.

      Nope, LMGs have the same range as rifles but some people will just sit and get suppressed. Make sure you have a foregrip too.

    One thing for newbies, even though the target audience tend to be former soldiers etc.... Learn to aim with your both eyes open. Seems simple enough but isn't, if you don't really engage in firearms.

    • @ThetaVR
      @ThetaVR  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You should learn to play the game as a rifleman first, and then switch to marksman. It's important that you learn how to play as a supporting member of a team before you start playing as someone who hangs out on the edge of the map.

    I've been using the virtual stock fezture for a few months now and i kind of swear by it but do you think it has a stratigic element?

    • @ThetaVR
      @ThetaVR  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it will hurt you more than help you in the long run, but it depends on what you're trying to accomplish. If you're just playing casually, then do whatever you want. But if you're looking to compete, I'd stop using it if I were you.

    Hey man, I haven’t played onward multiplayer yet because me and my friend have been practicing on bots, since we are new but would you recommend a ‘steady and slow’ play style or rushing to a better advantage on the enemy?

    • @ThetaVR
      @ThetaVR  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There isn't a single dominant strategy. With any highly interactive game the optimal strategy depends on what your opponent is doing and what you think they will do next. Sometimes aggression is the right call, and sometimes taking it slow is better.

    • @ThetaVR
      @ThetaVR  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's understandable, aiming in VR is way more natural than aiming with a mouse and keyboard. You're using your body in a natural way, whereas the mouse and keyboard setup is something you really have to train yourself for.

  • @mountbuckekreative4044
    @mountbuckekreative4044 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not sure how many players use the 'whole body' for the game. Most probably still move with the control sticks only. If use use some 'run in place' system like VRocker, things tend to be a bit more shaky.

    • @ThetaVR

      Because it isn't as simple as 1-2-3. It depends on what kind of game you're playing, what your experience level is, etc. If you don't have enough information to come up with an improvement plan after watching this, I don't know what to tell you. The teacher can only show you the door, it's up to you to walk through it.
