Those people back in Jesus' time might have mistaken Jesus' own words as actually representing what he really meant! And we wouldn't want that!
Let's see how modern interpretations stack up against the words as they are spoken.
This was made because the few videos I made just before this one (and a lot of my subsequent videos) dealt with the brutality of the old testament, and I was getting many comments telling me that christians DON'T follow the old testament, but that they follow the words and teachings of JESUS instead!
This video is my way of saying "No, you so obviously don't".
Rather than admit that you don't actually obey Jesus' instructions, perhaps instead you could leave a comment telling me that I am ignorant, and that I could never have been a Christian. Or, ignore the content of the video completely, and threaten eternal damnation to all God-hating atheists like me. Or why not use that old stand-by you always use when your religion is exposed as ludicrous: argue about evolution!
And yes, I know it's a bit too long. I chipped away at it for hours but this is as short as I could get it whilst still making all the points I wanted to.
When I give my four-year old food with vegetables mixed in, he picks out the stuff that he doesn't like. I don't know why I'm telling you this, because it doesn't have ANY relevance to modern Christianity. Not a bit.
Jeff Schall If you're following instructions supposedly ordered by an almighty being who created you, not much room to cherry pick. That's the point of the video. If even a human boss gives you a to do list, and you do 3 items out of 7, they'll be pissed or fire you. Doesn't make sense to only do some of what a magical book says lol
Jeff Schall He's disrespecting you, so you are commanded to kill him. Matthew 15;4, Leviticus 20;9 aong others.
@@namelessbacon9483 Why is anything that book says taken seriously in the first place. There is such a thing as self government and rule of law.
Raspian the Right Wing Guy because humans are gullible and moronic who don't like the thought of not existing after death. Just for clarification since this was a reply to my 9 month old one I'm an atheist amused at how people claim to be religious while ignoring everything in said religion
@@namelessbacon9483 Oh, well okay then. Sorry for causing the trouble of replying to my comment.
SOLUTION: convert EVERY church into a homeless shelter to rehabilitate the less fortunate. THAT'S doing the Lord's work. But we'll never see that happen. Ever.
Yeah lol, we should start a movement for that
I've heard of churches actually doing that and the local government stepping in to make them stop
That sounds like a good idea, and it would certainly be following the teachings of Jesus more. Of course the God of the bible is a murderous killer who desires worship so its unlikely we will ever see this...
I seriously think about this everytime I see a church...all the ways that building could be better used...and isn't.
Plenty of religious groups do things of this sort, however, the nasty part, is they often use it as a means to push their ideology.
So "sell your possessions" doesn't mean "sell your possessions". OK
"...let no one separate" means "let someone separate".
"Anyone who says 'you fool'..." means "say whatever you want".
"Turn the other cheek" means "fight back".
"Rejoice and be glad" means "hold a grudge and stay angry".
"I have not come to abolish them" means he's abolished them according to his plan.
"Do this and you will live" means "ignore me and follow Paul instead".
I stand corrected.
Thank you for exposing the harlot church for us. The Christians living and dying by every word Jesus said, truly obeying Him don't mind.
But we do wish you could know we exist, Jesus exists, and He is who He said He is.
@@jbrady1725 Just out of curiocity - what is your authoritative source for "every word Jesus said" that you live and die by? The NT gospels? But Jesus says different things in the four gospels - some of them directly contradicting quotes in the other gospels. Do you follow The Law to the letter as Jesus tells you to do in Matthew, or do you abandon The Law, as Jesus tells you to do in the gospel of John?
@@jbrady1725 If you're seeing this video and responding, it sounds like you still own the worldly possession of a computer.
Doesnt sound like youve sold all your possessions like Jesus has commanded. Do you not wish to follow the will of Jesus? Sell all your belongings to help the poor. Thats what Jesus wants.
Thank you! I wish the rest of that nonsense book came with corrections!
Hmm boy you worry so much about what's in Bible even tho you are too busy not look out your window and see growing homelessness and high crime rate and mafia selling drugs to anyone even to children and another problem is the environmental issues like toxic waste which causing all kinds problems even cancer to us humans with deadly results and yet with war, famine, and earthquakes taking its toll on humanity for the past decades and meanwhile you wine and complain about the Bible and should concern with yourself and well being
So you're saying that the whole "turn the other cheek" thing is just another case of Jesus only teaching to a first century context.
Cool. It's amazing how you are able to determine which of his teachings are timeless universal truths and which ones are only local in nature. Especially given that there aren't any hints in the actual scriptures as we have them today that would give any hints either way. Christians throughout history could have benefited from your insights.
That video was pretty good at debunking Protestantism, but not Catholicism. Look at the lives of St. Pio, St. Francis of assisi, that’s what Christians are. Protestantism is not the church Jesus founded
Nathan Lauritsen
Does it really matter? I think if anything, the fact that there are several different versions of Christianity (as well as Judaism and Islam) proves in itself that it's all bulls**t (and very confusing and contradictory. If it wasn't we'd have one consistent religion).
"Beware of these teachers of religious law! For they like to parade around in flowing robes and receive respectful greetings as they walk in the marketplaces." This clearly does not apply to the Pope or his Bishops. Jesus just forgot to clarify that part.
@@nathanlauritsen5574 The church jesus founded was eastern orthodox
@@nathanlauritsen5574 And you think the Roman Catholic church was founded by Jesus? Gimme a break, will ya.
I had a Christian tell me just yesterday that Liberalism is the opposite of Christianity. He said that helping poor people actually hurts them.
I hope you pointed out that Christ is a commie.
Kevin15047 Heaven is a Communist utopia. And your angel has to get you a drink the way you like it instead of just keeping you from getting attacked by black people.
Docktor Jim So black people attack others in a communist utopia? Ah, all makes perfect sense....
ma1k3ru01 He's making fun of the religious right, because many (not all) of them are racist.
We're supposed to teach them to fish, not give them fish. We can do that by cutting education!
I raised this point to an ex-friend and pastor, who told me every Christian is called to a different level of giving.
***** And every pastor is called to a different level of making shit up as they go along.
NonStampCollector That made my day , thank you.
NonStampCollector Speaking of making up shit as they go along, one of my friends had a pastor which justified God's rejection of Cain's vegetable offering because he was the son of SATAN AND EVE.
Even though in Genesis 3:1, it clearly states that Adam laid with Eve and they had Cain. It was a whole new level of making shit up.
Lol
Indeed, devote Christians are not asked to strip themselves of possession but rather to give what they can afford to give. 2 Corinthians 8:12 " For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have."
what jesus meant about selling your stuff and giving it to the poor was really about how much he loved capitalism and that he hated government handouts to "moochers". what he meant by "poor" was "people who are too lazy to work". and by "sell your stuff" he meant "convert them to your religion using fear and emotional manipulation".
it's all very clear.
Proof?
Shrek The OgreLord personal, self authenticating revelation.
There's a lot of that going around.
ryan neitzel You sound just like the modern-day Christian in the video, and every other Christian who claims they are the authority on interpreting God's word. Let me guess...you prayed about it? Spare me.
He was being facetious.
It must be great to be able to say that those of Jesus' commands that you don't want to follow yourself were only intended for the single individual to whom they were spoken 2000 years ago.
Also I'm so glad to see that Christians aren't "okay with [divorce] or anything", but don't feel the need to campaign against it, like they do about certain things that Jesus had absolutely nothing to say about.
those people are so cute sitting there on the ground looking up in their funny clothes :D

Ah, the typical Christian response to many of my videos.
"I interpret the scriptures THIS particular way. And yes, it IS a different interpretation to what most Christians have ever come to. But it is the RIGHT interpretation, and THAT proves that YOU, NonStampCollector, are WRONG! Therefore, take this video down, because it does not match MY interpretation of scripture!"
Next time they say that only their "interpretation" is the correct one, ask them if they've actually read the bibles. Because there that god says we are NOT to Interpret his word =
2 Peter 1:20 -- "Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation."
Also Proverbs 30: 5-6 (NIV), Deuteronomy 4:2, Deuteronomy 12:32, Revelation 22:18-19 basically say to NOT add, take away, or interpret his word - “Every word of god is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. 6. Do not add to his words, or he will rebuke you and prove you a liar.”
Funny how it’s always religious people that have to “interpret” the supposed "Perfect' word of god and add and take away from it, while Atheists read it as jesus himself said we should do. What it says, is what it means according to jesus! But religious people must not "like" what the "perfect" word says...
I used to be a Christian (I was raised as one from birth, unfortunately) so I know how it works. 1. Believe that a certain thing is true (especially the version that makes you most comfortable) 2. Do not question it..doing so may be punishable by hell. 3. If anyone starts using logic or something and it makes you uncomfortable, ignore it and accuse them of not understanding.
I dont know where you got the 2nd one. It's best to question and test your faith every single time. Doubts are always gonna be there. You gotta read and listen to his Word. Questioning alone isn't punishable by hell but the sins
@@korin5615ooh I can clarify (was also raised Catholic from birth but fortunately deconverted)
Yeah so you should question and test it, but only if you reach the same conclusion as everyone else, because nonexistent god forbid you actually figure out the real historical context of the religion and all its flaws. And when you do test it, make sure to do it is as vague a manner as possible so as to maximize the chance of your confirmation bias cherry-picking evidence that supports your belief. Oh, and make sure to always start your arguments and proofs by assuming you’re already correct, because that’s how logic works. Finally-and this is the most important-only listen to other people with the same beliefs as you so they can reinforce whatever reasoning you come up with, regardless of its actual validity.
You think I’m being sarcastic here but I’m not.
@@korin5615If you get personal comfort from the belief then power to you but your being disingenuous acting like a vast number of churches and even individuals do not appreciate questioning and will respond with the threat of damnation. Looking at it from a historical point theres been litany of various degrees of punishments by the overall church throughout various ages, for simply questioning what book they consider canon at the time.
Personally speaking I can remember being chastised for asking why God says love you neighbor then calls for war in the same book he gave the commandments in, before you say “thats a failure of your preacher”: that’s exactly my point. its a failure made by man in a religion made by man. God could be real but to say he wrote a book and we still have the unadulterated word is major cope.
“Jesus will you knock it off about selling everything?” had me dead 😂
he said to me through magic you can sell this comment
We need a sequel where this guy tells everyone what Paul's letters actually mean. 😂
"He is not willing that any should perish."
"You see what Paul actually meant is that only a tiny minority of humans will get into Heaven."
"God is love and love holds no record of wrongs."
"God holding no record of wrongs would make Him unjust."
"If you believe in your heart and confess with your mouth you will be saved."
"Yeah but only after you've lived a sinless life. What kind of God would let degenerates into Heaven?"
"Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen."
"Nah. Real faith is donating 10 percent of your income every week and choosing not to sin 100 percent of the time. Also having doubts or ceasing belief is proof you never had it to begin with."
"Christ is the savior of all people. Especially those who believe."
"Nah. He only died for Christians. And when I say Christians I mean real Christians. Not all those other fake ones."
"For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
"Well unless you choose incorrectly. God did give us free will after all."
"God does not show favoritism."
"No He does. Stop trying to whitewash Jesus. You're making a God in your own image."
"God gave them up to a strong delusion so that they would believe a lie."
"God doesn't lie to people. People choose not to believe because they just want to sin."
"He hath bound all to disobedience so He might have mercy on all."
"No. Only certain people are going to Heaven. Free Will. Remember?

Are we supposed to kill witches, or not?
+walter byrd The witches are the good guys...
Lee Peffers But the bible says to kill them, so good guys or not, we gotta do what the bible says.
Or maybe not? Killing witches is old testament, and Jesus changed everything right?
But then again, Jesus said every word in the old laws still stands. But then again again, Jesus said we can eat pork, which the old testament forbade.
So did Jesus change the old testament laws, or not? I am worried that I should be killing witches right now. After all, this is Christmas eve.
That's a tough one. Surely you'd be breaking the FIFTH commandment, that's right first is "I'm the greatest and that's final".
MGForums You might be thinking of the 6th: "You shall not murder."
I think "murder" is an unjustified killing. There are lots of justified reasons for killing: self defense, war, capital punishment, etc.
According to the old testament, you are commanded to kill people for all sorts of things, like children not obeying parents. Often times, people are to be killed by being stoned to death, for crimes such as adultery (let's start in Hollywood).
God commanded the killing of people all the time.
walter byrd Thou shalt not kill. Unless I say otherwise. Full of stupid rules and contradictions. Why does an all seeing, all knowing god need to send spies to scope out cities and then if you suggest the same he kills you?
I've actually heard arguments from Christians that all you need is love in your heart for Jesus and you will go to heaven. They said this in response to my "you are truly, not saved. you work on a Sunday". So basically ignore EVERYTHING else except when jesus said that one line and you are fine.
@@ultimtdisc That was the OT God. Jesus, ever the rebelious son, said, fuck that shit, and that's why He was crucified.
Jesus said, "if you love me, you will keep my commandments."
I'm Wilfred Brimely and I'd like to talk to you about EXEGESIS.
@Blah Blahblah The two greatest commandments are to love the LORD your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself. Jesus also reinforced this when He said to His disciples, "This is my commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you" (John 15:12) John, His disciple, says the same thing in his first letter (1 John 3:23-24), "This is His commandment, that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He commanded us." John also says in the same letter that, "the one who does not love does not know God, for God is love," (1 John 4:8) and, "We love, because He first loved us." (4:19). So, in regards to soteriology, the reason we need a savior to save us from our sins is because we fail to love God with our whole being and to love our neighbors as ourselves. When we turn to Jesus for the forgiveness of sins, then He gives us a new heart that loves God and loves others. We don't know how to love on our own. God is love, and when we turn to Jesus in faith and rest in Him, then He fills us with His love. So we love, because of His love.
@Blah Blahblah If what you say is true, and Jesus is not God's Son and is not one with the Father, then Jesus is a lier and a blasphemer, and no one should trust him, let alone worship him. If, however, Jesus truly is God's Son, and what he said is true, then to fail to honor God's Son is to dishonor God Himself.
Jesus: "Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets--"
Guy: "YES, HE HAS!"
wha... oh yeah that's the part where modern Christians say the rules in the old testament no longer apply because 'Jesus died for our sins so it started a blank slate!'.(Yes I actually heard/read that several times) They say that when critics bring up those silly rules like no eating shellfish or wearing mixed fabrics ... while totally ignoring the 10 Commandments they so love are in the old testament part they claim no longer applies. *singsong voice* ~Cherry Picking~
Jesus: "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them" (Matthew 5: 17)
Here's one of the things Jesus fulfilled - The psalmist said the Messiah would die by crucifixion. In fact someone in King David's court described the scene some 1000 years before it happened: "My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?... Dogs surround me, a pack of villains encircles me; they pierce my hands and my feet. All my bones are on display; people stare and gloat over me. They divide my clothes among them and cast lots for my garment..." (Psalm 22: 1, 16-18)
Yeah there's no chance that the people who wrote the newer stuff read the older stuff and added it in to make sure the prophecies matched. No no, it has to be magic.
@Wveth, there's no chance the Jewish people who knew the Psalms by heart added to them at all. The Psalms are a holy book in Judaism, so if you were going to somehow add or change them to match the Christian narrative, you'd have to change every copy of a holy book in every synagogue in the world. That's not going to happen, either now, or 2000 years ago.
@David Ramsay Except what did happen is that the original text was translated, multiple times. It's not a coincidence that Christians prefer to translate the ambiguous language of the original the way you've written. In reality, it's not clear what's happened to the hands and feet of this person. Similarly, there's no actual reason to interpret Psalm 22 as a prophesy. It's not. You are effectively engaging in revisionism.
I love your videos, now my internet thinks I am a stamp collector.

Welcome to MY world!
+NonStampCollector
Just started watching you.
Keep up the good work, exposing the lies and deception, of religion.
But could u do one on Islam, please?
+Jonjo Senna He doesn't know enough about it to provide a valid critique. Islam has less issues similar to Christianity since it's text is mostly literally interpreted and the problems in Islam are nearly identical when it comes to the practices that are illogical and without reason. Islam from the start has been politically motivated for growth and eventual world domination. It's slowed down now politically but it's still a quickly growing religion. The fact it has also had issues from the start regarding who should lead the caliphates is a big problem in it's structure that has been manipulated by the west in order to repress the people. If anything it's worked up until the US started occupying land in the middle-east. The soviets started the problem.
Islam ain't broke, but it ain't fixed either.
The Masked Arab does a fabulous job on exposing islam. He really understands how islam is taught and interpreted by different writers of hadiths and by schools and scholars of islam and explains this very well.
I definitely also recommend The Masked Arab; DarkMatter2525 is also top notch.

This one of the plethora of reasons I don't fret about hell as a former Christian. I know if hell exist everyone calling themselves Christian today will be joining me lol
Scripture teaches that majority will be damned. And most christians are included in that number, Jesus will even tell them "Depart from me, I NEVER KNEW YOU!"
21Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’
23Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you workers of lawlessness!’
There's no escaping them... ni rest for the wicked etc
What if this already is hell and part of the 'punishment' is not knowing? Instead of eternal life like heaven we are stuck in a cycle of eternal death, never knowing what came before.

Shreyas Misra The farther right you go, the less empathy you have in general. Why wouldn’t you want giving to the poor to be a law? If you agree that it’s a good thing, and everyone should do it, then why let people choose not to do it?
Sir Librarian
"Why wouldn’t you want giving to the poor to be a law?"
Because taking something from someone for nothing is commonly known as "stealing".
"If you agree that it’s a good thing, and everyone should do it, then why let people choose not to do it?"
Organ donation is agreed upon as a "good thing". Are you prepared to have a kidney taken by force, or have that done to family/friends?
Letting a person , who has no home, stay on yours, is a "good thing". I bet you can't wait for the police to drop by with some random ( and, statistically much more likely than normal to be mentally disturbed/ addicted to a substance that adversely affects their behavior) and force you to take them in for a few weeks?
Blood donation is a good thing. Are you in favor of forced , thrice a year, blood donations for all healthy individuals?
Also. There is the matter of this little thing called the CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA which calls such things ILLEGAL and a DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE that says doing such things are reasonable grounds for government overthrow.
Shreyas Misra
Agree and disagree with you here.
First. Disagree.
"No one chooses their temperament. "
In a way. We do. Remember how you just stated that temperament " is largely based on genetics and environment combined"
Well. We have a "nature" part( genetics) and a " nurture" part. You can very well control your environment( well. To some extent. And, most of us). You choose where to work( within reason
). You choose where to live( within reason). You choose who to associate with( again. Within reason). All of these things can have a profound effect on temperament. Like your parents likely told you . If you hang out with hooligans, chances are you'll end up a hooligan. If you hang out with honest people, you are more likely to remain honest than if you hang out with lying cheaters.
Now. Agree..
Most of the rest of your post here.
I particularly like the last...
"Let people choose, and you get Gandhi. Don't let them choose, and you get the Gulags."
I don't see it as a one to one thing. Allow choice and you wont end up with a population of 100% "Ganghis". But it can certainly have a profound effect.

NonStampCollector indeed, that is exactly how a communitarian gift-economy works. It's how the early Christians lived according to Acts 2 and Acts 4. It's tragic that so many Christians have opted out of that Way.

how are you still a christian?
@@MMMmyshawarma Because they couldn’t care less about following the rules of the Bible yet still want to claim they’re Christian.
Or maybe in the two years since their comment, they dropped Christianity idfk.
It irks me to no end when someone says that they have a moral belief that just so happens to be one that Jesus shares, and a Christian comes along and says "You got it from Jesus who is the greatest moral teacher" despite the fact that someone might have formed that belief on their own.
Just accept that some people believe that Jesus had some good ideas and some not so good ones. Christians have this filter where everything is more profound if Jesus said it. If Hippie Bob down the street said "Love your enemies" to everyone he passed by, is Bob's advice any less good than when Jesus said it?
Actually I became an atheists on moral grounds, when I saw how amoral and anti-spiritual religion was.
can you be a spiritual atheist?
Christianity and religion are not entirely the same.
XBLspartanx170 you can, though I often find it to be pretty inconsistent depending on the very nebulous definition of 'spiritual'. Still, many forms of Buddhism do not require a belief in any deity and are technically atheistic, and in the more colloquial sense of Atheism meaning 'without religion' there are many people who don't follow any religion but feel a 'spiritual connection' or get their spirituality from crystals or something.
I wouldn't call it amoral, but immoral. Amoral means something morally neutral or something to which morality doesn't apply, like a fly or a stone.
Atheism can be immoral too cf Stalin, Pol Pot, etc

"Yeah, come on Paul, you don't actually mean that it is better for people to be unmarried do you? You see, in the future, we have same-sex couples wanting to get married and the only way people will let us be bigoted towards them is if we say we're defending marriage."
What's quite interesting about Paul is that (if I'm not mistaken) he speaks about more topics and touches more subjects than Jesus. So that would make a good lengthy video.

ie .you hit a slave with a back hand..if you turn you cheek they cut their hand on your teeth..so they cant..and must punch you with a closed fist...which is how equal men fight. ...so it literaly means make them fight you like a man..not beat you like a slave. this isnt up for debate..it isnt an opinion. its accepted fact.
dont feel bad...9 out of 10 priests /ministers.etc..are misinformed on this one.
reverend moonie are you mass-marrying 100's of people this weekend?

Christians just say they can do whatever they want and ask for forgiveness later. This doesn't bother them at all
You should follow up with St. Paul's letters.
Agreed says the follower of the Christ
No one knows if Jesus existed or what he looked like. If he appeared anonymously in front of a believer to discuss Christ-ianity, the believer would have called him a heretic, accused him of misinterpreting scripture, or dismissed him as a fool or worse atheist! Just think, many of the faithful might have come face to face with their messiah...they judged him and drove him away.
Atheos Nous Maybe it's true for plenty of christians, Αθεος Νους. But how does it make Jesus words less right?
Λογος - Which words would be "right", who decides and how? The various anonymous authors of the Bible asserted contradictory messages for Jesus, leading to millennia of heretic hunts, thus, a falsehood to begin with, "they all may (not) be one."
Rafael Lopez - or a hippie or whining liberal! lol
Atheos Nous There are very few difficulties within Jesus message. "Love each orher", "Turn the other cheek" etc. are very universaly understood the same way by all christians.
The solution to dissident opinions was the oecumenical councils of the Church.
The differences between the first heresies and the Church where about subtilities such as the nature of the trinity and of Jesus (monophysisme, arianism etc) By the way, there was no much violences aroung there schisms : The monophisist churchs (Armenian and Coptic) still exist, continued to have good relations with the orthodox Chrurch and finaly evolved from monophysism to a much more orthodox concept allowing them to be in communion with the othodox church again.
The great schism and the Protestant schism are the consequence of a coup d'état by the Pope of Rome in the Church, replacing the oecumenical councils system by a monarchy. Greeks refused the authority of a pontifex maximus and later protestants revolted against him for the same reasons.
.
Λογος - Versions of the golden rule were offered by Confucius and Buddha 500 years before Jesus, but the idea of empathy traces back to other animals before humans.
There would be few difficulties in reconciling Jesus’ message, indeed, if one cherry picks scripture. The Christians who subscribe to the idea of the Army of God or other forms of fundamentalism can quote scriptural authority just as peaceful and moderate believers can. Those who wish to implement OT laws and punishments can quote Jesus as one who “came to uphold the law”, who endorsed the death penalty for cursing parents, just as you can refer to “he that is without sin…” for your point. Each believer can proclaim himself the true Christian, as every Christian I encounter has to me while denouncing others in the same breath. The process yields no truer Christian, when in reality each believer tends to choose the messages that agree with his existing sensibilities. This is complicated further by various established canons that disagree on accepted scripture. Is it any wonder there are 40,000 denominations who don’t worship “as one”?
Whether Jesus and Yaweh were one entity, whether Jesus was man or god, and whether the OT should be entirely jettisoned were hardly subtleties. Sincere believers die for these small discrepancies. As early as the 3rd century, prior to the first official schism at the council of Ephesus, Origen and Augustine were preaching hatred against the Jews and heretics. Paul himself said, "We will be ready to punish every act of disobedience." Such not-so-love-each-other torches were passed on through Aquinas, Martin Luther and John Calvin into modernity. The message of love is still lost on most church leaders today toward homosexuals, even by the head of the unassuming Anglican Church.
And the concept of eternal punishment in a fiery hell for rejecting Christianity, applied to the inhabitants of Capernaum, also “very universally understood the same way by most (I won’t say all) Christians,” is certainly not a message of love.
These most human of contradictions is what happens when orthodoxy was negotiated in iterations by committees of men in those ecumenical councils, who presumed to know the mind of a god. The phenomenon continues today among believers.
I miss these cartoons 😢

In the words of Pontius Pilate: Nailed it.
LOL. I love the scowl on Jesus's face when he gets corrected.
How can a yes/no question which is only mildly rhetorical be considered either a blanket statement or a generalisation?
And let's re-phrase your statement here thusly: "The reason nobody does [what Jesus apparently commanded] anymore is....well, because, no one does it any more."
Exactly. It's all up for grabs. My entire point.
No go sell your computer and give to the poor. It would benefit them AND me, as you'd stop bothering me.
I never thought about this before but you are 100% right. I don't know a single Christian that that has done this...although there have been some I'm sure. The words of Jesus are undeniable to Christians, no?
If you knew any history you'd know that the early new testament copyists wrote all kinds of shit into the stories as they went along; once they started writing, that is, after several decades of chinese whispers! I love being told to read history, by people who think the NT is good history!
And if I'm failing, with a never-ending stream of messages from people telling me that the ideas in these vids helped get them free of Christianity, then I hope to keep failing along for a long long time.
Nonstampcollector, as a modern Christian, I just want to say thanks for this video. I stumbled across it when researching how modern American Christianity has become contextualized (and possibly syncretistic) within the culture today. I think many of your points are spot-on, and that many Christians have indeed lost sight of the true biblical Jesus. They have created a heavily contextualized idea of Jesus based on their own desires and cultural influences. I admit that I, myself, am guilty of this at times too, so I take this video as a much-needed reminder to live a life rooted in who the Bible portrays as the real Jesus; not some imaginary, right-wing, blond-haired/blue-eyed, middle class, American Jesus. Your facetious style of satire in this video is also something that I appreciate. We Christians need not take ourselves so seriously sometimes. Then maybe we could bridge some of the disconnect between the real Jesus and the fake one we have made up in American Christianity.
mantasticadam
Thank you for the reminder that most Christians are decent people like you.
Okay Feste, lets not get carried away with "most" just maybe... a decent minority is decent like Manta. xD Most don't give a crap about scriptures at all or what jesus actually said.
I was a Christian for over 30 years. You see how we adapt our concept of Christianity to our world. That's a good insight. However if y study mo you will also see Jesus says conflicting things and some advice, like getting rid of all possessions, are impractical and irresponsible. If you study eventually you will see contradictions. Study more and you come up with things like the Hebrew word "Alma" and that the Greek authors of the gospels didn't really understand Jewish scripture. You will come to understand how the early Roman church shaped a version of Christianity while pushing out the other versions. I have done what I thought God wanted in my life. Now I face the consequences alone wishing I had lived my life as I desired and made the choices in my heart. There is no God to answer for my delusions.
@@kittyhooch1 Wow. So you regretted the way you live your life huh. That sucks. Maybe you could find what you truly desire and do it?
@kittyhoosh1 So you are saying that adult Jewish men that grew up learning the Jewish scripture and also knew greek didn't know what the jewish scriptures said...
sadly, Bill O'Reilly actually tries to do this.
Modern Jesus = individual alternate ego.
This is when they don't read the bible, imagine a personal version of Jesus to fit their social proximity bounds, interpret whatever things to benefit their needs, discard anything that they are not comfortable with...then spread thousands of inconsistent, contradictory, vague, and made-up versions of this character.
...laughable childish act, really.
My Jesus can beat up your Jesus!
Can I copy paste this?
It's really cause most Christians only ever hear things from the Bible during Sunday sermons.
@@visaman Is this a…Jo Jo reference?
This animation remains one of the most brilliant, incisive expositions of the gospels that I have ever read or watched. Plus it's hilarious. It exposes first the hypocrisy of Christians through the ages as well as the Christian church in all its denominations, and second exposes the inherent conflicts of the text itself.
There was a meme the other day that said " Let's be honest if a brown Skinned Palestinian Jew attended a Trump rallie and told the to feed the hungry, house the homeless and welcome the stranger " they would call him a Libtard Socicalist and then crucify him.

I fucking love these accents
Dude! These cartoons you make are really great! I love the strategy of SHOWING people the ridiculous place where their assumptions, vanity, selfishness, cultural biases and pretentious moral superiority intersect! What a hillarious slap in the face to people who THINK they are perfect Christians. I hope they know to just turn the other cheek.
I feel lucky to have a non believing mum. Apparently there was a vote for divorce when she was a teenager and she supported it but no one else in her world did. She lived in a conservative country (Ireland).
Apparently someone her exact age was found dead outside a church in her town. The girl was 14 and died giving birth. Her parents didn’t know she was pregnant and she was likely never taught what a condom was. When two kids found her she was alive and they ran to get a priest instead of calling an ambulance. The girl died before a doctor could come because the children thought a priest would be a better saviour. Also, when my mum was growing up, if a woman was found to be pregnant outside of marriage they would usually be sent to a convent to repent for their sins. The convent was usually just a concentration camp where the church could get free labour and a lot of the women there report being raped by priests. So it was probably a good decision for the girl not to tell her parents.
If this doesn’t show the dangers of Christianity (catholicism) I don’t know what will. Also the bishop in her area abused a load of boys.
Hahahahahaha Jesus angry face is hilarious
"I've been praying about this a lot longer than you have" = "I'm a way bigger hypocrite than you are"
These are really good. I wish I had access to this kind of stuff before I was 12 when religion started really messing my life up. I hope you keep making more. Thank you.
This is so perfect in so many ways thank you for this stamp collector

I needed to watch this 15 years later because it's still relevant.
I also lost faith in my fellow "Christians" after they voted for Trump.
They don't actually read the Gospels. I think they're actually Paulians.
I have to say, this video certainly makes a very crucial point about the modern Christian: When it all comes down to it, though certain Scriptures do require careful interpretation, that does not mean that one can just change the meaning of the text to suit his or her agenda.
When ever I hear a Christian say that a certain Bible passage "requires careful interpretation" it's usually a sign that he's about to explain to me why it means the opposite of what it says.
Was studying luke 18:22, was "spiritually moved", gave too much money to charity and now I'm in debt :)
I love the MS Paint graphics! Seriously : ) Brings back childhood memories

Anytime someone asks me what it would take to convince me of the gospel, I tell them I'll believe when they seek everything they own and give the money to the poor
Instructions unclear: Accidentally started another crusade
I had to look up the "not yelling loud enough" one, kinda wild:
If shes rpd in town, she is to be put to death with the man, for she didnt not yell loudly enough for someone to save her, but if its in the country, "she has done no sin worthy of death" because no one was there to hear and help...
So if you scream but dont get saved its your fault even if no one hears in the city, but if no one hears in a field na you tried your best... oh, and if the man rps a virgin, his punishment is he has to marry her, pay her dad 50silver, and not ever divorce her

Amazing for an eleven year old video. Still a relevant topic it seems.
Well done NSC, well done!
I've done a lot of what was quoted here and I learned a lot. First .. it feels pretty damn good to help needy people. You earn respect, for one thing. Second .. if you are caught giving, expect to see hands begging. Third .. no one can live their entire life this way at every given second.
Sorry Jesus, but eventually we will need to turn to the people slapping our other cheek and put those bastards in check.

This is the best "Jesus Sermon" I have ever seen or heard put together; awesome! I`d like to see any Christian be "perfect like their Father in Heaven" and follow Jesus` laws to the letter; it sure would be different! Where are the great multitudes of Christians explaining to us exactly why they don`t do what Jesus says to do....or else? I would love to hear a "real explanation" why they don`t, here in the comments; hint hint Xians.
Thomas Bergere, well, it's not possible to be perfect. That's why you can't save yourself and you need Jesus and the Church. That's why Jesus washed the feet of the diciples and teached them to do so with all future christians. Baptism washes away your sins, but the path of temporal live lives dust on you feet. In other wirds, you can't be sinless in this world. That's why you need this dust to be washed from you feet. It's why the Church confess and forgives those who repent.
God bless you.
Sin, salvation, God, all made-up to support each other. You need God because you need salvation because you're sinful because you can't ever be as awesome as God. And if you don't believe in God you can't ever escape your sinful nature that's derived from your lack of salvation that originates from your disbelief in God. Begging the question must be like masturbation for the religious.
Λογος It might be impossible to be perfect but, Jesus commanded you to do it; so, why not try? Do you really think you can ignore Jesus' commandments and be forgiven through His ritual, blood human, sacrifice to Himself, baptism and feet washing? Why do I need to repent for God`s fuck-ups? Shouldn`t God be apologizing to us for condemning us to be born bad, broken, wrong, and worthless, sinners?
Years ago, I told some super-xian co-workers something similar: "If you really believe that this life is a test and the reward is bliss FOR ALL ETERNITY, why don't you live every day as if Jesus were right in front of you, and spend all of your time helping the poor?" They were amazed at my insight and wondered if maybe I were spiritual after all. So they completely made it about me instead of them and proselytized harder. It's just common sense!!
Christians accept the ritual, blood, human, sacrifice of a perfect, innocent man so that they can be horrible people and call it "sin", without having to accept any responsibility for their actions. It's a "get out of hell free card." The church down the street gives out bumper stickers that say "Christians aren`t perfect; just forgiven." A more honest slogan would be "Xians aren`t perfect; just evil!" lol!
Modern Christian's left eye is an octagon, his right eye is a decahedron.

I am an Atheist, but I do believe Jesus existed. I don't think he was holy or anything of the sort, but I do think he was an activist and THE philosopher of his time and I do truly believe most of his words came from a place of empathy, compassion and great wisdom.
Like, he does talk a lot about helping the less fortunate, not being an asshole to each other and humility.
Of course, like all good things, the rest of humanity had to ruin it and spin those words around to fit their agenda.
Except the part where he spits on someone

My favorite part about your videos is that you don't mock the religious figures or the religion itself, you mock the toxic followers and the way it's been twisted over the years.
Hmmmm....
Thanks, yes, it would take a lot for me to directly mock an individual, but I do think my "mocking the religion" credentials are pretty strong.
Doesn’t Jesus sound much more like an apocalypse preacher than he does a god or leader… he’s basically saying to sell everything and ignore what people have done to you because of he world will end soon anyway… Paul also spoke about the world ending soon… makes you think doesn’t it…
There's no way around it: Jesus was basically an itinerant apocalyptic prophet. The kind of person who would be standing at traffic lights wearing a sign board shouting at cars that the world was about to end.
@2m24 "I've read about this more than you, ok! I know what he means!" 😂
like christians would be able to invent a time machine*rolls eyes
jonathon ikard lol I thought the same thing
Someone else would invent it, they'd protest saying that changing the past would interfere with the lord's creation, then later on when they realise they can't maintain a respectful reputation if they blatantly ignore facts we teach kindergarteners they'd accept it and say "Time machines are all just part of God's plan." And do their best to pretend they never protested in the first place.
Most of the smartest people in the 16 17 and beginings of 18 century were christians hahaha i am agnostic btw

I don't see a sequel video with St. Paul. Please, PLEASE, Mr. NonStampCollector, make one soon!
When I was a Christian I said these exact things. If something sounded stupid, I said that these were just old testament rules that didn't have any meaning in today's world. Jesus's teachings don't sound capitalistic at all. It's almost as if he's a socialist or something.
This is hilarious. I'm glad it was posted.

“You guys don’t have TH-cam or Fox News, do ya?”
Hahahahah, priceless! 🤣🤣
Jesus said more about divorce than that!
Matthew 5:32
"But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, causes her to become an adulteress, and anyone who marries the divorced woman commits adultery."
This is especially important in the light of "no fault divorce" (a.k.a. irretrievable / irreconcilable breakdown of marriage) which is widely accepted by modern Christians without any thought of contradicting Jesus.
In fact, Kimberly Jean Davis, the county clerk for Rowan County, Kentucky is a Christian. She made international headlines when she refused to assist the filing of a gay marriage license, citing Christian teachings. However, she filed hundreds of VS-300 forms, through which one may petition for dissolution of marriage. In Kentucky, the ONLY ground for divorce is that the marriage is "irretrievably broken." There is no legal requirement to prove "marital unfaithfulness." This is required by the teachings of Jesus, but not Kentucky.
@Dave Rodriguez Your answer only covers what happens if the spouse dies, it doesn't address the OP's comments about divorce. Is divorce still absolutely forbidden except for unfaithfulness, as Jesus said?
God sacrificed himself to himself to relieve us from a "sin" he created/caused.
@Dave Rodriguez So you deny the Trinity?
@Dave Rodriguez My query was re: your apparent insistence that JC was "a HUMAN BEING" and not equal to the Father. Whereas I thought the doctrine of the Trinity held that "the Father and Son being distinct are yet also co-equal, co-eternal, and con-substantial Persons." Co-equal, of course, being the relevant point here. Three in One puzzled the early church fathers and it seems nothing much has changed.
@Dave Rodriguez Yep. Nothing much has changed. God apparently loves verbal gymnastics. This is just YOUR take on the Trinity, and I'm certainly not qualified to pronounce re: its theological correctness. Your original reply to Hate is Love simply struck me as unusual, is all.
@Dave Rodriguez I am happy for your lack of confusion. However, I have long thought (and this exchange has done nothing to change my mind) that the biblical god requires immense effort just for someone to work out the basics. Perish the thought, but, if I was god, I'd (i) stick to one story (what ARE all those other faiths for?) (ii) manifest in glory a little more often (to get rid of doubters) and (iii) crack down on scriptural literalism (which keeps folk stuck in the past). Sadly there seems little chance of any of these happening in reality. The lack of such straightforward solutions to such a complicated situation might lead some to suggest that "Man is made in god's image" is simply the wrong way round.
That was awesome! Well done, guys.
It’s funny that the time traveler feels like he has to hurry off to the next task.
