    I don't even see why so-called good Christians preach this, even if it was a metaphor, the only lesson I can get out of it is this; "no matter how crazy or inhumane something sounds do it as long as God tells you to, he might somehow interfere and make it less inhumane".
    I was mostly reminded about this at Sunday school when I was young in Nigeria, I was even afraid to question it and just concluded that it was justified, now that I'm older, more confident and smarter in a different environment I know better than to just go along with the story.

    • @Schneeregen_
      @Schneeregen_ 4 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      @wmfivethree Have you read Jepthah, it doesn't have to do with Abraham's story or an interpretation of it, Jepthah promised to sacrifice whatever came out of his home first when he came back from war if god helped him. Then when his daughter came out (honestly what did he think would greet him) he got angry about having to kill her and took 2 months to do it because he really didn't want to, 2 months that God could have stopped this and at the end of those 2 months Jepthah kills his daughter and burns her. My point is that you can't say God is great because he prevented a human sacrifice he commanded, when he did nothing to intervene in a human sacrifice he commanded that took months to be performed.

Most of it is illegal today, immoral, unethical at the best...Working for 7 years to get a bride, then having her sister foisted off on you and having to work another 7 years? HOW IS THAT RIGHT? I believe there is one version where he does, where Abraham finds the goat to sacrifice of his own agency. Earlier Abraham begs and confronts God not to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah, that a just and good God would not do such a thing, so it fits in more with his character to refuse God later when God vindictively wants to punish said hubris by telling him to kill Isaac.
      All these stories, even if you were to believe they happened, have been corrupted over thousands of years with different narrators, retellings, cultures, edits, agendas and translations that you’d have to be an irrational brainwashed idiot to believe it’s literally word for word true.

Unlike the Judeo-Christian tradition, you have set of dogmas you adhere to. The story of Abraham and Isaac is one of the most disgusting story ever if you really think about it. Abraham heard voices on his head and cut his foreskin then proceeded to murder his son as a sacrifice to the voice in his head. What we can really say about this is: blind faith can justify anything even the attempted slaughter of your own son.

One that lacked of love, trust, and maybe even a shortage of empathy for him! I was bullied and harassed back at my old christian school for about 4 years. It's been almost two years since I escaped, and I still have issues from it. I still have trouble trusting and socializing with boys (since it was mostly boys who harassed me) and making genuine friends (because my so-called "friends" watched me as I suffered, and they never did anything)! Hello, my fellow non-believer, atheist, and agnostic. At this time, humanity has taken a step toward secularization. The increase of godless-minded people like us has had a significant impact on human civilization. We are now part of the major culture, beliefs, and traditions of every society in every nation. We carry the idealogy of the great mind that contributes to western and eastern philosophy, sharing a common belief and goal: ending lies upon lies of believers, the liberation of human belief and ethic, the desired of technological advancement, scientific discovery and renovation, and the improvement of human livelihood and prosperity. We want humanity to have a better future, to fix every problem, and to reunite the fractured world. We are the non-believers; people who act according to our developed beliefs, knowledge, and wisdom that we attain from our own lives; the selfless people we are willing to be compassionate without anything in return; and the great supporters of scientific practice and thinking, as well as economic development and implementation in our world.

      At best, most of humanity gives lip service to empathy and wants to pretend they meet some high standard of morals, but their actions show a general apathy towards anyone they arent closely in contact with. Lack of action is as good as aiding the worst among us.
      Occasionally a leader rises that has inspired a positive move to offset the worst of our traits, and this leads to a huge outsized move of progress and good deeds, followed by generations of slowly back sliding and taking a good life for granted while ignoring the suffering of others because they are thousands of miles away. Suffering that could be ended with just a mild amount of sacrifice from the most secure portion of our species.
      Humanity is retched. The only saving grace is the occasional success of the very clever or the very ethical that occasionally rise to a leadership role. We currently have Putin bombing near a nuclear plant that would destroy the lives of millions of Russians as well as everyone else in the area. A "good" and reasonable response to this would be to see millioms of Russians literally march on the Kremlim and physicall remove Putin from office...but no..They cant even be bothered to safe gaurd their own lives. Abraham was Issac's father and uncle at the same time.

    That's always been my bone of contention with this whole story-- Why would an omniscient being ever "TEST" anyone?

    • @orchdork775
      @orchdork775 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Exactly

    • @丫o

      Because this omniscient being is behaving exactly as if it were thought up by the mind of men who didn’t have any wisdom, but just wanted power.

    I have a friend that's a Muslim, and their Sodom and Gommrah story ends with Lut(Lot) and his family leaving the city. I told him the rest of the story as it's told in the Bible...he shook his head and said "Jesus Christ, you guys *really* abuse your prophets!"

      Not to mention the abuse Lot's family got...including from him.

    Nice detail how Isaac has shit his pants at 6:30.

    I feel like there's not enough love for the Sodom and Gomorrah reference during the intro.

    Was the Abraham story a dry-run for the Jesus story? A loving father sacrifices his only begotten son to appease something and make possible a new covenant?
    Geez, the author of Mark was lazier than a modern day studio exec, recycling every old plot and story thread!

      There is clearly a strong and deliberate link between the two stories.

    I enjoy these satires. I also enjoy debating Christians especially in a time that allows me the luxury not to get crucified on the very cross they seem to worship today (paradox). I sometimes imagine if Jesus looked down on them today whether he would even find it a symbol of faith to wear a cross which was a symbol of his death, and man's rejection of him.

    Love that these videos have references throughout. There's really no argument to be made about anything being out of context or inaccurate.

    Both Abraham and Yahweh are praised by Christians in this.

    The develepment of Satan from a concept into a full blown adversary of God has always fascinated me; especially as it parrelled the development of yahweh from a single deity in a panteon into the "supreme, one and only" God. Obviously, as you said, making their god become the all-powerful creator of everything started to cause theological issues because he suddenly was also responsible for evil; hence the need for Satan.
