Being radical really just means going against the norm in a big way. If everyone around you is convinced, being unconvinced can be radical (in the same way that flat earthers are radical now). There isn't anything inherently good or bad about being radical, but the word has taken on an unfortunate connotation.
It's obvious that this isn't what causes people to be evil monsters. After all, Hitler, Mao, Stalin, Pol Pot all had dark hair, so there ya go, it's because of dark hair.
The scrolling of quotes from Mein Kompf while the characters are laughing is actually disturbing as fuck. It's eerie and troubling because of how shockingly real the hypocrisy is.
It was eerie-- disturbing and troubling-- at first for me, as well. I also found it a bit funny, from the absurdity of the hypocrisy. I mean, these could very well represent real people, but the views themselves, of those people, are absurd. Goes to show the great procrustean power of undiversified discussion. But, when there's little can be done to ameliorate that on its face, maybe it's better to laugh. I don't know
@BoomerLemon Only if you ignore the fact that he left the Catholic faith and espoused "Positive Christianity," a version of Christianity that basically claimed that Jesus and all the disciples and apostles were German, except of course for Judas Iscariot, who was naturally made out to be Jewish (naturally he would insist the person who turned on Christ was Jewish to further his anti-Semitic propaganda).
when the hitler thing comes up i usually just say to christians. "You have a bigger chance of meeting hitler in heaven than i have." I live in Germany and I can assure you: Devout christians ALWAYS come up with the myth of Hitler and the nazis were atheists. Right after the collapse of the 3rd Reich - only a few days later - the catholic church began to install this myth by preaching against the "godless" nazis, while they were helping nazi officers to escape justice -->google "ratlines" The churches do it until today. They call the ISIS terrorists "godless", too. So they basically claim, that ISIS is an atheist organization.
People can be a monster whether they believe in god or not. It does not matter whether Hitler believed in god. That being said, paraphrasing from Richard Dawkins- A belief in a higher power has a logical progression to violence (not that it does in every case of course, stay with me). If one believes a creator of the universe, an all powerful lord, and follows a religious interpretation of that deity, they are more likely to commit atrocities than someone who does not hold that a belief. For example, extremist do not wake up everyday saying, "What can I do to spread evil today?" Most believe that the horrible things they do are holy/just and they will be rewarded by "god" in the afterlife. There is no progression from an atheist world view to that state of mind. That being said, evil and cruelty is everywhere. I wish we would set aside our petty religions and insatiable hunger for power and just fucking leave together in peace. Can we all do that? No..? OK.
No it doesn’t matter. What DOES matter is how Christians try to hide his beliefs so they don’t have to accept credit for yet another mass murder. As if the crusades, Spanish Inquisition, and Salem witch trials weren’t enough.

So I made sure to check each of the sources to confirm their points. I noticed that the source for 11 leads me to a page that no longer contains an article. I know it has been a long time since you made this video and there are many reasons that it could no longer be there, but if anyone has a link to the intended article I would appreciate it. I think it was the son of the priest that told the story, but I might have it wrong. But I do remember he'd had confession a time or two.
I'd like to see Hitler's references to god after he had a firm grip on power. Being the natural skeptic that I am, I've always believed his references to god during his rise was meant to appeal to the population and aren't truly reflective of his belief in god. After all, nothing has proven to be more effective to justify extreme actions and genocide than appeal to the divine. He's just following the historical how-to manual on genocide. It seemed to me that after he got power, he used less divine rhetoric. Also, I think it's worth pointing out that to prop up Hitler, Ho Chi Min, Stalin, Richard Dawkins (yes, I actually saw these guys grouped together in a meme) as morality-starved atheist leaders, you need to ignore every other war, leader, "christ-chosen" king, etc. throughout history.

"You have a bigger chance of meeting hitler in heaven than i have." They look at me suprised and i just say casually "because im atheist and he was a catholic and all of his sins are forgiven." I like to think that the times when i say that it makes them maybe think about what they actually believe and just maybe get some small critical thinking.

I live in Germany and I can assure you: Devout christians ALWAYS come up with the myth of Hitler and the nazis were atheists. Right after the collapse of the 3rd Reich - only a few days later - the catholic church began to install this myth by preaching against the "godless" nazis, while they were helping nazi officers to escape justice -->google "ratlines"
The churches do it until today. They call the ISIS terrorists "godless", too. So they basically claim, that ISIS is an atheist organization.
Yes, sadly, a lot of people.
Christian argument, "without God we would have no morality. Look at Hitler!"
People can be a monster whether they believe in god or not. It does not matter whether Hitler believed in god. That being said, paraphrasing from Richard Dawkins-
A belief in a higher power has a logical progression to violence (not that it does in every case of course, stay with me).
No..? OK.
Well said you summed it up beautifully. I
No it doesn’t matter. What DOES matter is how Christians try to hide his beliefs so they don’t have to accept credit for yet another mass murder. As if the crusades, Spanish Inquisition, and Salem witch trials weren’t enough.

Even though this was a system I never believed in I had at least some modicum of faith in their ability to govern themselves humanely. So I made sure to check each of the sources to confirm their points. I noticed that the source for 11 leads me to a page that no longer contains an article. I know it has been a long time since you made this video and there are many reasons that it could no longer be there, but if anyone has a link to the intended article I would appreciate it. I saw in a documentary where Stalin had confession with a priest twice while he was ruler. I've not been able to find that anywhere else and don't remember the documentary.
