"So you're read Mein Kampf? A big fan of Hitler, are you? Wow."
You've got to admire that question. There's so delightfully no right answer. Say "no" and you shouldn't be listened to because you don't know what you're talking about. Say "yes" and you shouldn't be listened to because you're morally compromised - not only is admitting to reading "Mein Kampf" almost like admitting you're a nazi, but as a bonus puts you in a position of having to go "I've read Hitler's book and you've got him all wrong!"

Christians dont use the No True Christian Fallacy anywhere near as often as Atheists do. Ask her why Moses, after giving the commandment "Thou Shalt Not Kill" told God's people to kill their brother, friend and neighbor, claiming it was what God said.
"26 So Moses stood at the entrance to the camp and said, “Whoever is for the LORD, come to me.” And all the Levites gathered around him. 27 He told them, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Each of you men is to fasten his sword to his side, go back and forth through the camp from gate to gate, and slay his brother, his friend, and his neighbor.’” 28 The Levites did as Moses commanded, and that day about three thousand of the people fell dead."

  • @CosmosGamingChannel

People can be a monster whether they believe in god or not. It does not matter whether Hitler believed in god. That being said, paraphrasing from Richard Dawkins-
A belief in a higher power has a logical progression to violence (not that it does in every case of course, stay with me). If one believes a creator of the universe, an all powerful lord, and follows a religious interpretation of that deity, they are more likely to commit atrocities than someone who does not hold that a belief. For example, extremist do not wake up everyday saying, "What can I do to spread evil today?" Most believe that the horrible things they do are holy/just and they will be rewarded by "god" in the afterlife. There is no progression from an atheist world view to that state of mind.
That being said, evil and cruelty is everywhere. I wish we would set aside our petty religions and insatiable hunger for power and just fucking leave together in peace. Can we all do that? No..? OK.

I'd like to see Hitler's references to god after he had a firm grip on power. Being the natural skeptic that I am, I've always believed his references to god during his rise was meant to appeal to the population and aren't truly reflective of his belief in god. After all, nothing has proven to be more effective to justify extreme actions and genocide than appeal to the divine. He's just following the historical how-to manual on genocide. It seemed to me that after he got power, he used less divine rhetoric.
Also, I think it's worth pointing out that to prop up Hitler, Ho Chi Min, Stalin, Richard Dawkins (yes, I actually saw these guys grouped together in a meme) as morality-starved atheist leaders, you need to ignore every other war, leader, "christ-chosen" king, etc. throughout history.

To any theists arguing that this doesn't matter, and that Hitler's religious views didn't reflect Christianity as a whole... You're right. Completely. He could've believed in Unicorns and it wouldn't have changed what happened. Radical anything is typically bad, so don't use hitler as an argument against endorsing atheism. Or anything, other than genocide.

+Nathan Deaton "Radical anything is typically bad" ... Except Atheism. I don't how you can have too much reason. There's no scripture for atheism commanding its followers to put an end to all religion. We're literally just a band of people who reject these ridiculous hypotheses and would like to educate religion out of society.

I know this isn't the main topic but the word unicorn in the king James version of the bible refers to rhinos it is an old book and words change.

I read a rather large book which devoted a large portion to Hitler. Apparently he said whatever he needed to whoever just to get what he wanted. He had no problem going back on his word which he did after swearing he wouldn't on so many occasions. You just couldn't believe anything he said. Its hard to say exactly WHAT he believed.
