    Amazing video, thank you! I'm just wondering. With all the rigging and accessories plus the body, are we not fairly close to the price of a used RED KOMODO? What are your thoughts on that? Coming from an S5 and looking to orient towards a cinema camera.

    • @corryraymondfilms
      @corryraymondfilms  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you!
      Yeah that’s a really interesting point. I’m 3 months into having the 6K full frame and the camera body is really annoying and the BRAW codec makes large files sizes and sometimes I do just need a ProRes 1080p file. The image is stunning though and I’ve got some of the best shots I’ve ever taken on this camera. It’s just great.
      I think the answer is, depends on how you want to work. If the image is more important, get a full frame camera. If you need something that’s easier to rig and has other codec options, go with the RED

    • @Alex-CPopa
      @Alex-CPopa 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@corryraymondfilms I understand, it does look indeed like a very impressive image and makes it an appealing choice for people wanting to create beautiful images. Although, the Komodo has a global shutter, perfect for virtual production, is modular, and has an approximate 1.5 crop. Furthermore you can use speed boosters to get the full frame look as well as the 16bit R3D RAW and Prores codecs and the outstanding colour science. I feel like this is more future proof? There is probably a significant extra investment over the BlackMagic with all the accessories for around 1.5-2k on the used market.Could be worth it. I'm looking at both cameras for the past 4 months.
      Who knows? i guess it's just up to what works best for the workflow and the people who hire you and the type of work that you do or want to do for yourself. But having in consideration that the industry is always changing and we tend to gravitate around different niches, I tend to go more towards the Komodo due to the fact that is more future proof in my opinion. I might be wrong,?

    • @corryraymondfilms
      @corryraymondfilms  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Alex-CPopa@Alex-CPopa Yeah, great points. I would just ask, are you going to be doing virtual productions? If so, it's a definite. The global vs shutter, to be honest I've never really noticed unless I'm shooting something that's supposed to be shaky.
      I think before buying either, just rent each camera for different shoots and see which one works best. I'm always buying before renting it, it's super cheap to rent either camera for the day and just see what happens

      @@Alex-CPopa Sorry for late reply Alex, I've only just seen your reply to the last comment. Yeah, I agree with you. To be honest, I miss out on work sometimes because I don't have a RED and some narrative producers will pick one DP over another simply because they have a RED or an ARRI. I personally have missed out on work and my ACs have gone on to work on the same gig, then when I have watched the results, been frustrated that the DP who got the work didn't do a good job, but got the gig because of their kit (all the gear, no idea is the saying). I am tempted to buy a RED just simply to win more gigs. Hope this helps.

    Hi there, this is the first good revie of that camera that I have seen, thank you so much for this!! I have one question: what is the exact name of the cage you are using? Is it the standard cage for the 6kpro? I am struggling to fix a l-mount to pl-mount adapter to a cage to adapt longer lenses more easily without having too much force on the l-mount. ..

    • @corryraymondfilms
      @corryraymondfilms  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you!
      I’ve pasted below a link to the cage that I used. It’s not the standard 6k Pro one from Smallrig.
      You need a really strong connection between the cage and the rail mount. I’d recommend getting an Arri Dovetail mount baseplate which are on Amazon (the one I showed with the URSA in the video).
      Once you have the rails, your PL lenses or your PL adaptor will have a screw on the bottom. You need to buy a lens support that allows you to connect the rails to the lens via that screw. Then, your lens, camera and rails will all be firmly mounted as one and it won’t put any force on it, but spread the force evenly across the camera elements.

    One thing I love about open gate is that on a 50mm lens you get horizontal field of view of a 50 but the vertical field of view of a 35m.
    It’s awesome if if you genuinely want to deliver in the 3:2 aspect ratio!
    You don’t need to film 16:9 and imagine what it would be with the sides cropped off, as well as have to re-position the camera further back.

    • @KaarloMedia
      @KaarloMedia 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Wrong, actually. Every lens has a round image circle, so the 50mm lens would be 50mm throughout the image circle. All current camera sensors are rectangular so they just crop some of that round image circle out. If you're using a 16:9 full frame sensor, you're cutting more from the top and bottom of the round image circle. When you're using a 3:2 sensor, you get to keep more of the top and bottom.

    what is absolutely CRAZY is how Blackmagic doesn't have preview desqueeze options for anamorphics.. even at the current price of $1,500 it still baffles me. It makes it to where you MUST add a monitor to desqueeze preview, making the veritcal build even more vertical. Alternatively if you have a squeeze factor that works (1.6x for full sensor readout), it's BAKED IN..
    Blackmagic, I love the company but man it's so dumb that they don't offer this.. It's a 3:2 sensor, it screams anamorphics.

    This is such a silly aesthetic thing but all the Small Rig cages ive seen have a wooden insert...how does yours have the carbon fiber?

      Really simple answer, I bought mine direct from China and it’s a unique cage that’s for attaching the battery extender

    12 seconds. It took 12 seconds to realize you have no idea what you're talking about. Jesus, so just a slight bit of research before you speak.

      Hi Adrian, this is what I said in the first 12 seconds:
      The sensor size of the black magic cameras have always been a contentious issue from the first black magic camera; which had a super 16 mm sensor, to the pocket cameras, which had a slightly narrower super 35 mm sensor.
      The first Blackmagic camera sensor size is 16.64 mm x 14.04 mm. It’s always been compared to a 16mm sensor.
      The pocket cameras float between a 2x-1.6x field of view (when compared to full frame). Considering the Arri Alexa Mini is a super 35mm sensor, which when compared it full frame is a 1.27 field of view, I would say that is a narrower super 35mm sensor.
      Can you please let me know where I have gone wrong?
