My Top CINEMATIC Moments Shot on Blackmagic 6k Full Frame 2024
This is a montage of my top moments captured since owning the the Blackmagic 6k Full Frame (L Mount).
Featuring lenses such as:
DZOFILM Catta L Mount 35-80mm T2.9
Blazar Remus Lens set (45mm, 65mm, 100mm)
I have outlined the compression settings and record settings so you can all contrast how they affect the image.
This video is comprised of work and not test footage.
Extra Thoughts:
I think you can really see the difference when you look at what lenses each piece of work was shot on. The DZOFILM lens is very cinematic and as I start using photography lenses, it starts to be overall sharper and I would say less “cinematic”.

Blackmagic 6K Pro Top Tips, Settings and Hacks!
Thanks for this info. Is there a longer video that explains the why behind the exposure you suggest and more details on how to set up the camera for different lighting situations?
That’s a great idea, I will make this video for you next
is this the same company thats trying to replace itself with an iphone app?
If you think a film production camera can be replaced by an app
BM needs a 8K 60p camera to take on Nikon and Canon. It’s like there is the Pocket 6k and Pyxis. And a 12K Ursa but no middle ground. I was so hoping for BM to make something like Canon R5C. But at an affordable BM price.
Subscribed 🤙
Thanks for putting this out , these vids are helpful. People who can share their honest camera experiences
Does it need to be the wireless go 2 or does the 1 also work? Thanks for sharing this great video!
Yes the 1 works! Thank you 🙏🏻
How did you mount an EF lens on the full frame camera? Isn’t it an L-mount camera?
how do you load those proxy files by default? I import original BRAW files first or should I only import those proxy files in a special folder?
Does gyro stabilisation work with zoom lenses or just a prime with a fixed focal length?
stunning brow. shot full hd 60p whether croping or full sensor ?
Great Video. With the 6k only going upto 48fps, is it not usable in Pal region at all?
Good stuff. Would’ve liked to see you address the noise issues it has in low light environments. I’ve struggled a bit with it for real estate videos in homes that don’t have amazing lighting.
For the mics, I will have to respectfully deny that, the levels are FANTASTIC! Perfect gain level, no harsh low noise floor or terrible hissing. With todays setups, you can easily adjust mic position or give it some gain if you want it's actually not bad at al. Used the balanced input(Mini XLR) and it's even greater. It's not too low at all. Leaves perfect headroom from mixing and finalizing the sound.
Yeah I agree, thank you for your comment, that was something I experienced because of the mic I was using. Having used more mics since, it is great for sound
you said its not compatible with full frame but there is a full frame version of the 6k would these lenses still work with it ?
Hi everyone, I'm looking to get an ND filter for my Canon 50mm f/1.4 lens. Can someone confirm if the correct filter size is 58mm? I'd appreciate any recommendations for good ND filters as well. Thanks! ---
Taking the pictor against vespid in the same 35mm for example, how many difference do you see in terms of quality???
What a quality!!!
*Corrections BRAW is not supported on FCPX. I used a studio where it worked but unfortunately it isn’t native, as I said. You need a plug in, which is here: brawtoolbox.io/ This camera DOES work with the ATEM switchers. I’ve tried it since and it works. I said it didn’t because before this camera was released, I spoke to a Blackmagic sales rep at an event and he said it was gone. Perhaps it was later added after he said that, I don’t know 🤷🏻♂️
Please I believe can put vivid photo in blackmagic pocket 6k pro because the way you explain please confirm it to me please because this camera can does these things too then it made me believe all photo will become vivid photo shoot I believe it need colourist to do these things.
Great review! At 2:19 I think there is a mistake as when shooting 6k there isn’t s super35 crop factor as well as I know… Is it a mistake?
Thank you! Not sure what you mean, the cropped super35 mode is 4K, not 6k. If you’re referring to the text on screen that says “6k full frame”, it’s just so you know which camera in on screen as in that sequence, I’m comparing the full frame against the pro
@@corryraymondfilmsOhh now I see what you meant… thanks! Actually I’m waiting on my Pyxis and learned a lot from your video, new subscriber here 😃
Amazing thank you!
I recently got a Blackmagic 6K full-frame camera, and I'm looking for some advice on choosing a lens for shooting cinematic films. My goal is to find a lens that offers high-quality performance, especially for versatile shots, but I'm also mindful of my budget. Thank you so much for your help! .
Every time I skipped ahead 15 or 30 seconds to see the lens or footage it would just be your face and hands again talking at the camera
You’re welcome
do U have noise with this camera?
Yes it’s very noisy
@@corryraymondfilms how do you deal with the noise , what ISO's do u avoid ?
thanks bro both lenes are fire i have a xeen rn
Handy
the link to the "right" cage isn't working.. can you fix it?
hi, i love those shots!! are those clips handheld or are you using a gimbal (i see some shots with tripod, but the others?) The shots with the catta 35-80mm, is that handheld or some kind of other rig, because it is nicely stabelized.
It’s a mix! The shots where the camera rushes past or does a 180 on the subject, that’s a gimbal. Shots which are static are all on a tripod. The ones on the pier however were handheld, literally the palms of my hand, and I was able to stabilise it to appear like it was on a tripod. The Catta is a really heavy lens, so that’s either on a tripod or on a shoulder rig with two handle grips which I am holding onto
Thanks for the inspiration! I have a Cinema 6k as well. Great job 👏🏽
Can you explain why you used each different compression level? Do you usually stick to certain ones? I saw you use 12:1 a lot.
So Q is going to prioritise quality. When I’m shooting 12:1, it’s normally because I need the drive space and the project doesn’t need to be at a high bitrate, for instance, because it’s on TH-cam. I bring out the Q compression when the project’s life is going to go beyond TH-cam for instance
@@corryraymondfilms okay, I was wondering what your thoughts were because I never know which compression rate/type makes sense to use.
I know what you mean. The Q ones are the best. I would recommend using the Qs and only use the 12:1 if you need the card space and the end client is like TH-cam and can afford to be heavily compressed. It does make a big difference in the quality of the shadows shooting on 12:1/Q5 when compared to Q0,1,3
@@corryraymondfilms okay, thank you. So you personally pretty much only use constant bit rate (CBR) when you know you’re going to use 12:1? Otherwise, you’re just using constant quality C.Q.? Are there any use cases for 8:1, 5:1, or 3:1?
Cases for 8:1, 3:1… I personally haven’t found one. The Q is really useful for getting high quality images, especially Q0 as it is the lowest compression you can get (although it’s still compressed) and Q is very reliable for card space. 3:1 is going to be less than Q0, Q1 and sometimes it’s going to be more quality than is necessary and sometimes it’s going to be less than needed. However, Q really takes care of that. 12:1 vs 8:1 I have noticed a difference in the shadows, so 8:1 doesn’t mess with the blacks like 12:1 does. Q5 I have also found to have purple hues in the blacks, when compared to the higher resolutions. Hope that helps you decide what to shoot with
👏👏👏 phenomenal footage as always. Truely inspiring
Thank you 🙌
Looks beautiful ❤️
Hello Corry and thanks for the Guide. Your trick to put the quick release on top of the cage to fit the screw is excellent.I put a NATO Smallrig QR. What FF Cine lens you suggest?
It's a shame the Blackmagic app doesn't exist on Android. :\ Would have made my life so much easier.
Great video, would love some insight into rigging focus, particularly as when you were talking about headroom being a problem I was thinking about the focus in the shot lol, it's something I've struggled with two, the lens mount is so damn high
I love this camera, shot my last 3 feature films with this as a B-cam to my Ursa Broadcast 6k
Just the info I’ve been looking for for my nucleus nano. One question: does the app need to be running the entire time you are using it to stop/start the camera with the nano? As in, can I close the phone and put it in my pocket and still use the remote trigger function? Thanks!!!
Thank you! I’ve found that it doesn’t need to be running the whole time, you can close the phone
@@corryraymondfilms This is great news! Thanks so much for the great video and the quick response!!!
Great info guys! Appreciated. Same with Nucleus Nano II?
Did you ever find out about the Nano II?
I’m not sure to be honest. I haven’t tested the II
Great footage.👍🏾 did you use an adapter for the Ziess ef lens to the 6k ? If so , what was it?
Thank you! The sigma adaptor is the best!
Your review is good, very well spoken. You gave a lot more insight then others that spoke on the BlackMagic 6k FF
How you mange de focus with this camera in a gimbal?
The RS3 has an accessory where you can attach a focus wheel and focus motor to the lens, this is how I do it
What's the name of the battery and cable you used in the camera? Thank you
Just a standard V mount lithium battery and the D-Tap to Blackmagic Pocket 6k adaptor
what is absolutely CRAZY is how Blackmagic doesn't have preview desqueeze options for anamorphics.. even at the current price of $1,500 it still baffles me. It makes it to where you MUST add a monitor to desqueeze preview, making the veritcal build even more vertical. Alternatively if you have a squeeze factor that works (1.6x for full sensor readout), it's BAKED IN.. Blackmagic, I love the company but man it's so dumb that they don't offer this.. It's a 3:2 sensor, it screams anamorphics.
Great video thanks
Those handheld shots are mostly shoulder rig or an easy rig kinda setup?
Yes that’s right! A shoulder rig setup
Thanks for this. I just got this camera, motivated by that lovely image combined with the BM raw and proxy files, I think this camera provides the perfect workflow with Davinci.
Cool test! It looks like your focus was slightly off on the Pro. When you switched to "open aperture," I noticed a clear focus loss on the Pro which I don't think had anything to do with the lens. It makes the Full Frame look much sharper in the 2X comparison but I don't think the actual sharpness is that drastic when both are properly focused. Would love to see more tests like this.
Thank you, it is the lens, the Zeiss at 1.4 is pretty unusable
i came here for the girl in the thumbnail 🙈
Been fighting against getting a camera as the newest anything always makes yours obsolete and I usually hire a cinematographer with the latest toy anyway. But I have been tinkering with different camera ideas and you convinced me to strongly consider this gizmo right here. Nice work Corry, straightforward and clear information.
Wow! You were prophetic in the video about so many things to do with the PYXIS 6K 😮 Bravo 👏🤩
