Great video as usual. Folks that criticize this camera have unrealistic expectations for the price point. This is a great value camera. Of course there are compromises at this price point. There are compromises at every price point.
I think the problem with this camera is that almost nobody who has Pocket 4K, 6K G2, 6K PRO said "I need more quality picture from my camera". People need a different body design, reliable AF, cheap and easy to use storage, a bit more dynamic range, much better battery life. Blackmagic could design smaller buttonless camera with detachable 5inch tilting display, reliable AF, real 2-3H battery life, which would work with SD cards (for 10 bit h265) and CFexpress type B (for BRAW). They could made MFT and FF options with additional PRO line which would have builtin NDs, viewfinder and more professional ports like XLR and full quality output to video assist for additional redundancy or higher frame rates options.
@aaronkessler2857 I think if the time comes for me to upgrade to a true cinema system, it'd be ARRI. Obviously REDs are ace but I hear horror stories about the user experiencing
Honestly, people that complain about the body style don't understand the purpose of this camera. At the price point, they're definitely reusing the housing that they've already designed to keep the cost down. In addition, no other camera offers the picture quality Black Magic offers with literally no rigging needed. Quite exceptional if you ask me! At the price point, you can buy this camera, a lens, & a CF Express card and immediately start capturing amazing footage! Not to mention DaVinci resolve studio comes with it for free!!
Davinci Studio is free with this camera, no need of external recorder, no need of external monitor, no need to XLR adaptor/recorder, almost any existing lens can be adapted to the existing L mount.
I'm really glad that they have the L mount because from what I've heard dji and Panasonic are teaming up to put the Lidar AF system directly onto the camera itself. If Black Magic can obtain a firmware update that can use the lumix lenses with the Lidar for auto focusing, then this camera is going to be an amazing gear to have.
Great video team! I'm extremely impressed by what Blackmagic has done at this price point. While I have my reservations with the design, to have RAW, full frame, open gate 6K for a camera that costs less than $4K Australian is something we could've only dreamed about a few years back. It's not for everyone, but it makes a true cinema camera much more accessible for many.

After the great tech of the 12K it's extremely dissapointing to see the same poor rolling shutter sensor from the S1H in here. Had they upped the price to $4000 and put the Sensor from the MAVO LF II in there I and many others would buy it in a heart beat. Also the removal of 1080p ProRes in full sensor width means it's unusable for a lot of work I do. Great image, but a step back in almost every other area.

I was at an invitational event today which had the camera to play with and test out. The only thing I wanted to test is the rolling shutter performance since the numbers are a bit alarming. Seeing that camera on your hand I understand why the removed the 'Pocket' from the name and called it only Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K. It seems huge and heavy but may be good for Cinema-style video shooting and not run and gun video style.
Camera sales must be very low. 😂 I think it will attract buyers' attention depending on what additional features will be announced in the future. 4k is still enough.

BMD can't license neither the RF mount nor the E mount because Sony and Canon do not give licenses on their mounts (RED is the exception because they traded patents with Canon).
The big issue that can't be emphasized enough, is that the transition to L-mount simply is going to take a long time, or could fail. Existing sunk lens investments are a controlling factor for this target market, adapters are notoriously unreliable, and L-mount currently serves mostly still photographers at best. I kinda resent the addition of the L-mount to the market, even though it was necessitated by the greed and closed nature of nearly all the other current mirrorless lens mounts. Sony and Canon need to lighten up and allow other camera bodies to use their mounts. DJI's shot at trying to use native E-mount was promising, but probably got bullied by Sony's lawyers.
We are talking about manual focus here, and I cannot think of a single adapter that doesn't work when it comes to manual focus. Manual focus works with even the most basic adapters. If you ask me, the L mount is a big win.

I'm sorry but I don't agree with this at all. Adapters are not unreliable apart from Autofocus which this camera doesn't have anyway. A lot of the low-mid range cinema lenses have interchangeable lens mounts now and L mount options. Laowa Rangers, Dzofilm Catta, Meike etc.

i just dont understand why they feel comfortable with foregoing the internal nds. theyre also discouraging a lot of their current customers who have invested in canon glass by using the l mount. sure, you can adapt it, but like you mention in the video the inclusion of the l mount limits the ability to have internal nds. full frame really shouldnt be enough of a selling point for people to make this leap. internal nd in a form factor this small was *the* selling point. maybe im wrong, i still have my bmpcc4k but i run an r5c as my main camera. if they had included internal nd tho and didnt go with a completely different lens mount i may have considered selling my r5c, and switching to an r5 for stills and getting this guy as my a cam
It's not the same to put internal NDs on a s35 size sensor than on a Full Frame one (over twice the surface area). FF is just too big of a size to do it cost-effectively. It would have implied a total redesign, adding significantly to the cost of the camera. Since for that reason there was little chance of adding internal ND on this FF camera, that open the possibility to change the mount to a more adequate one in terms of future proof (L-mount instead of EF). Which area's do you think Sony / Pana / Fuji are winning in?
@@carlyates2487 almost the same video quality , Ibis, AF, battery life , etc . Still don't see reason to pick Bm when you can get Lumix s5IIx/Fx3 /X2hS
maybe on functionality (AF, e-NDs, battery life...) but not in image quality which is still the most important factor for many of us
but if you're using a CINEMA camera you're going to rig it up to v mount or other external battery solutions..@@phrasalsyntax
@@phrasalsyntax this was a problem 2-3 years ago, yes, but now everything has leveled off. the same 14-15 stops of DD as BM, less noise. Few people use RAW , if necessary you can buy a recorder for Panasonic . there is no magical quality, now everything almost equal
9:00 sorry that is inaccurate. The Canon R5C in the US is $3799, the BM CC6K is $2595. That's not half.
There is a world outside the US - you know?
In EU for example the R5C costs around € 3800 and the BMCC6k is € 2000 (excluding VAT).
“L mount” 😂😂😂 I’ll pass on that.
ummm they do claim that, they keep calling it "high end" ha
Same run and gun body style but still no ibis or autofocus means this is a huge disappointment for me. Also, most people I know are building up their lenses for either Sony or canon so either of those lens mounts would have made more sense for me and my circle. L mount is a dud mount as no other bigger cinema brands really use it.
You mean Leica’s L mount
It looks like a VCR
13 stops of dynamic range terrible panasonic s5 gets 14plus stops
With a 2 to 1 signal to noise ratio?
@TimsWildlife no In general you get battery quality videos
@@harryvlogs783314 according to who is the biggest point. Blackmagic UNDERsells their dynamic range
@harryvlogs7833 I liked the highlight retention of the pockets, but prefer my zcam for low light. I shot wildlife at iso 51200 with lower noise than my pocket 4k has at 3200. Amazing.
Same sensor as the S5, exact same dynamic range.
No ProRes, NoND :)
Is it just me, or is this video out of focus, jerky, pixelated and I can’t read the captions at the bottom left because they are blurred. This video doesn’t sell the camera to me.
Yes, it is just you. Your eyesight, or you have crappy internet.
@@sitebstudios not sure eyes are able to create pixelation!
But I have just re-watched and you are correct no pixelated images, so must have had shocking internet. Thanks for your comment 👍
Every other company is taking on the Red Komodo! Blackmagic is falling way behind with their reluctance to create what the consumer market wants. They will eventually lose traction in the cinema world. Mark my words.
If only that camera had an RF mount instead of L .....
What for? L-Mount has the same flange distance, and has way more lenses than the RF Mount. Going RF would have undoubtedly crippled this camera.
@@AbdonPhirathon The BM camera users are all EF. Compatibility with RF is sure.
@@TheBlacksheep1967 Both, the RF Mount and L-Mount require adapters for non-native lenses. Adapters like the Sigma MC-21 exist, so this is a non-issue. It’s not like the camera has C-AF.
BMD can't license neither the RF mount nor the E mount because Sony and Canon do not give licenses on their mounts (RED is the exception because they traded patents with Canon).
I’m never buying a so-called “cinema camera” that’s shaped like a SLR. If Blackmagic had any sense they would have changed the form factor.
That crop though in 4k 👎
its just a super 35 crop though
no AF, no photos either
No, this isn't a hybrid camera. Its a dedicated video/cinema camera.
@@carlyates2487 you were comparing it to a7iv
It’s useless as a cinema camera it’s only 10 bit colour 10 bit. What the hell is wrong with these companies a true cinema camera Hass to have raw and Hass to have 12 pig color. None of the rest of the shit matters.
It's literally got everything you just stated it doesn't have mate. It's not 10 bit, it's 12 bit and shoots RAW. In fact if you actually watch the video, the camera ONLY shoots BRAW! Which is 12 bit...
You have no business commenting about a camera you have no knowledge of. It's no secret that Black Magic shoots RAW and 12bit.
10 bit externally and 12 bit internally
I wouldnt say a true cinema camera. the bit count doest make a cinema camera. all of hollywoods films were in 8 bit its not the arrow its the marksman.
