    Tony, thanks for all the RC print and printer reviews. I’m currently using the Vypr printer and the new Kobra printer is scheduled to arrive this upcoming Tuesday. Are you willing to share your Cura/Kobra print profiles for PLA,, LW-PLA and TPU for RC printing ?

    I have been printing with my upgraded Ender 3 pro with cr touch, dual z and direct drive mod I have been very pleased with the results. I just built a Prusa I3 Mk3+S and it has just blown me away with the quality of print.

    Hey Troy! Thanks for the videos. Please may you give us an update on the best printer to purchase for 3d printed planes.. I'm interested in the Anycubic series. Looks like they have a lot of new printers since you made this video.

    I seriously just picked up the Ender 3 S1 Pro for my new reliable workhorse... for 200 dollars more argh. While I love it, this looks to be nearly the exact machine; minus the dual Z screws and all metal hot end. Would love to see a tear down of this new extruder/hot end as well as some tests to see how fast it can extrude filament without missing a step. Also really digging the Anycubic bed leveler vs the CR Touch.

  • @paulreeder5241
    @paulreeder5241 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Movement is the same for direct drive and bowden tube printers. They both have extruders, which is the only moving part for applying the filament to the print bed. The difference is actually the flexing of the filament. It is much less with the direct drive vs bowden.

    Nice review, ordered - thanks! Glad I waited a couple of days before ordering a different printer. This will be my first 3D Printer and am anxious. I have been in RC for many years (40+) and I happen to find your channel by chance. I can see where a 3D Printer would help in some of my builds. I'll tell the wife I fell for a scam when it shows up. :)

    The display looks like the one on the Vyper, which I really didn't like. Open Source firmware support from Anycubic on the Vyper was really bad. And there were (are?) some royality issues with the compiler... Hope the motherboard is now fixed and uses uart mode for the TMC drivers. They switched from a load cell for ABL to an inductive probe which I really appreciate.

    HI troy, I'm looking to upgrade from my ender 3. I'm borrowing a Prusa MK3 to speed up my printing time. what do you recommend for a good self leveling direct drive printer. I'm really looking at the Flsun v400 but i'm worried about if its going to be a good all round printer. I print mostly foaming LW PLA for planes, PLA+ for crafting material and TPU for mu FPV drones. Will I get faster printing speeds with the V400 over the Prusa with LW-PLA? My second choice would be the Prusa MK4 (long lead time). the Any cubic printers look interesting, i'm just worried about longevity and part availability.

    is the 250mm height is not a drawback of the Kobra? also thinking about buying Bambu A1 which has 265mm. I am wondering if it is not slowing down the printing process on bigger planes having to cut up the model into smaller pieces?

  • @paulmilne3038

    Only concerns I have are all about the direct drive and maintenance of same.
    It looks huge. Does that mean it’s heavy because if it is that will cause problems and how easy is the hotend to service. It looks like it could be a bit of a pain having to dismantle it every time.
    I assume that it’s not an all metal hotend and it still uses some ptfe tubing?

    I'm debating between the Vyper and the Kobra. My concerns are the single z axis on the Kobra if it will handle printing over long use, and with the vyper it being a bowen when I will be using flex filaments from time to time. It's going to be my first 3d printer and I don't want my experience to be a negative one. I appreciate your help and so value your opinion. Any suggestions???

    I purchased this printer and I really like it. I especially like the way it levels the bed. Finally, a bed leveling program that seems to work (fingers crossed). One problem, Cura 5 does not have a profile for this printer. So, how do you set this up in cura 5 and what slicer did you use?

    • @paulreeder5241

  • @brianmi40
    @brianmi40 ปีที่แล้ว

    Moving parts is the same between the designs as others have mentioned, what makes the difference is technically the difference in diameter between the filament, and the bowden tubing obviously needs to have a tiny gap to minimize friction if the filament varies (as all do) in diameter slightly.
    That slight gap means that when the extruder PUSHES after retraction, there is a delay before pressure actually reaches the filament at the other end down in the nozzle due to filament first pressing against the bowden tube wall along it's length and then finally force reaching the filament at the nozzle to get it to move where we need it to.
    This same thing works in reverse on RETRACTION, as any slack in the bowden tube of "hitting the inner wall" by the filament needs to pulled back upon first before the filament at the nozzle finally starts to move. Yes, it's a tiny amount of distance, and time involved, but when printing sub-millimeter in a 3D printer, it does affect quality.
    That's why the retraction settings need to be noticeably reduced in your slicing software when you, for example, install a direct drive extruder as a conversion from a bowden style.

    direct drive is actually not so important with printing lw pla because retraction is turned off (due to foaming and hence nozzle blockage risk). Nothing wrong with bowden for printing plane parts, especially short-throw bowden printers like ender 3 and clones.

    The box of my new Cobra was missing screws and the lower plastic cable fixing element; the since withdrawn 2.8.2 firmware was faulty.
    Many things are disabled in what is currently available, it is impossible to print in multiple colors from USB or from the g-code program, because the management of the touch screen in case of interruption is simply not solved in the firmware, in addition, the direction of the Y-axis is up in the menu with faint blue letters on a white background exchanged and I could list. I guess they don't need a functionalist graphic designer or they're just plain idiots.
    Their customer service has interpretation problems, so NO ONE SHOULD BUY ANYCUBIC products!

      Other videos show how to adjust roller wheels. Basically you want all 3 in each group equally resisting turning by hand. they should turn under gentle hand pressure individually: not spin freely, or be too hard to turn. Only 1 has an adjustment nut out of the three.
      I would recheck them after a few weeks or printing also.
