Ignore discussion of range in this video. After my reviews of the X8G, I opened up its transmitter, and found that its antenna and shield cable were improperly soldered (shorted together). I was getting poor ranges in my X8G reviews because of this. Other's should NOT have this problem (unless yours was soldered by the same person that did mine ;-)

+Quadcopter 101 Awesome Videos, you are really skilled at piloting these things! Cool to see how smooth they are capable of flying with practice. Just curious about the range (sorry if you have already answered this). After you corrected your issue, what does your range on the copter/camera look like now? Does the quad have a longer range than the camera? Sorry I JUST ordered this and also a cheaper Syma X5C to train with and don't have any experience with these machines yet. VERY excited to be getting into this activity!!

I can guarentee it mate. the sj4000 is 1080p 30fps and sharp image. look at uploaded footage of both. get an X8C and hot glue the stick on tab with the clip on adaptor to the bottom. you need to sand it flat first. works for me fine and only cost £95

I have the same drone and it is a X8HG
I have a dji phantom 2 now haven't opened it been playing around with the Mjx x101. If I was to get the syma x8g if you don't fly with range can u easily lose this to fly away. Video wise syma would be more ideal than the mjx correct?

Re these birds and motors/jello etc.
IE the X8 series I mean. One of mine wrecked two motors just all by itself, no crash damage I mean. Replaced them with stock OE parts. This example was an X8W. Got fed up with its grindings and thrashings etc so when I found by chance a reference to Night Lions motors got a set from your side of the pond (I’m in Scotland) and - what a difference. Lubricated the gearbox components with gt85 chain spray for bikes. Smooth as butter. Sounds and feels like a different machine. Didn’t replace the gear wheels, just the motors.
So just ordered up a second set from the same US supplier. Unsure if the performance has changed greatly although my feeling is that it’s improved a bit.
Slightly more expensive than stock parts but these would be a bargain at twice the price.
Enjoying your approach to these low priced toys. I’m lucky enough to have a P4 but there’s something about these clumsy grindboxes that I like very much and they get used far more than the complicated Phantom. Which latter every time it’s flying I’m nervous of an expensive mishap! I also like the wee brother, the X5s mostly flown indoors when there’s to much wind/rain etc etc. Which - being Scotland - is LOTS! So I’m envious of your weather and wide open spaces!
Happy New Year Quadcopter101, I have a question How do you change the output in your Syma X8 G camera(the little square one look like a GoPro) to be use in a FPV system? I ask you this cause I watch your Vdeos and I seen you use your Syma Little camera and I'm doing some thing wrong cause can record vdeos but don't work with the FPV system I bought. Thank You.

great video, good quality, but still a little bit of jello effect. When you say "the camera is noisy" do you refer to the cable from the "go-pro" to the quad? surely there is a way to shield that from interfering with the receiver?
If you were to use a Gopro with the X8G do you think you could also retro fit an FPV camera and run it from the X8's power?

do you think the cable is long enough on the camera to attach a 2d gimbal.Maybe if you removed the original foot plate? and use the syma camera.?
i am going on a trip to europe next sunday and would love to have this toy. Gear best seems takes a little longer to deliver. any other sources on where i could get it from? or anything similar. I haven't seen any other camera produced such a stabilized video on this range.

Hey +quadcopter 101. I bought a syma x5c-1 after watching your reviews as my first quad. thanks for the info! I love it. its a bunch of fun to fly around inside my house.
I now want to move up to something to fly an action cam with. I dont want to spend more than $200usd (less is better even) and ive got my eye on these few quads: Kaideng K70c, syma x8 series, mjx x101, sky vampire or is there something ive missed. Im leaning toward the K70c but I think I should really get something with altitude hold. I dont really want to go for another in between kinda deal ie: i dont want to buy a step up from the x5c only to want another step up model in a few months.
After this next quad I will be looking at buying a Phantom or Inspire.
What are your thoughts on what I should buy next?
I want to buy this drone but I have a doubt. The audio is very good but I would like to know how you recorded the audio because I guess it is not from the drone. What device do you use to record the audio?
Is it possible to hook up a wireless powerbank to the camera, thereby extending the battery life?
Or is the camera not even really making the battery suffer to bad

Banggood and a lot of other websites says that it only has 70-100m of range. This x8g has 150-200...

Quadcopter, I do so much appreciate your help and quick responses. I see that the Syma X8G is pretty big size wise. My concern is that it might be sluggish and plod along. (like my UDI U817A). Is that the case with the X8G? Does it lumber along? My Syma X5SC-1 is pretty zippy, which I prefer. I would be using the X8G for videoing as well as just flying so would like to know if it's pretty responsive. (It's hard to tell in the video).
+Susan Robertson No it's a slow and gradual flier. That's what makes it a good platform for stable aerial video.
Does the camera have buttons to function stand alone or must it be attached to the quadcopter?

I think the x8g has upgraded motors to handle extra weight of the camera right?
When I fly mine I cant keep it from flying up. Either it flys up or to get it to go down it falls out of the sky or if I be careful I have to drop it so slow.. Then I lose it so is there a problem with mine or do I just suck at flying?

Hey there! I'm going on a vacation to Austria next summer and I thought it would be cool to get some sweet video's in the mountains there. I'm a beginner on the drone thingy and I'm looking for a 100-200 euro/dollar kind of drone with good camera quality. I am considering actually to buy this one. Is this a good idea? Also if the camera is getting power from the drone I guess it only has somewhat around 5 minutes of flight time instead of the 7-9 minutes?

EDIT: Can you tell the diffrence between X8 W and X8C? I'm wondering if it's an option to buy one of those instead of the X8G and replace the cam with a nice hd camera. I have no idea what the max weight of the cam is on these models. Sorry for the long question ;)
+jesser110 Here's a new release that does very well with GoPros and GoPro clones. But I'd be concerned about mountain flying as flying at elevation may bring the quadcopter close to its ceiling altitude. None of these quadcopters have documented ceilings. Quadcopter, thanks for your reply. The prop spins freely and I've only flown it over grass, not a lot of dusty dirt so suspect it does not have grits in the gears. I'm sending ithe JJRC back since it's the second one I've had with a burned out motor. In regard to my other question about the Syma X8G camera. Is the camera an 8MP or a 5MP. I've seen boxes for it on Amazon that say both 8MP and 5MP on the same box? Also thanks for the motor changing info for the Syma X8G. I think I'm going to order that one if it does indeed come with an 8MP camera. Thanks again. Susan
+Susan Robertson It was originally planned to be 5MP, but released as 8MP. All X8G's are 8MP.
Video was very good for not having a gimbal. It would be great to put on my X8C and see if I am still getting the great range the X8C has been giving me with my Runcam on it.
my x8g doesn't respond o the controller. Do you know how to change the frequency or reset and calibrate it?

That is a clone of the Syma X8G. Would recommend the original X8G for better quality control.

How are you showing the video? and what device are you showing it on?
I'm having trouble working the camera on it. The light turns red when I plug it in but then ten seconds later it just turns off and that's it. I put a sandisk 16gb sd card in it. If anyone knows what's wrong with it could you please tell me

Ok! Thx for the info, not trying to bug you, but I have 1 more question. I'm thinking about buying a drone of amazon. It says fpv, and can attach a gopro, but does fpv mean that it records to a micro SD card or you can just see your surroundings at that moment.

Hi. I enjoy all your videos thanks. this is the Quad I plan to get, laregely because of the 8mp camera, but I was dissappointed to see the amount of gelo still present. Have you tried anything to absorb the vibrations, and I wondered what would fit without affecting either flight, or appearing in camerashot? Thanks

hey kind sir, could you tell me which drone would be better for a first time buyer/flyer? i'm thinking either this Syma X8G or the MJX bug 3. i do have a go pro but being a first time flyer i'm a little worried i will crash it and or lose it. i am willing to fly it a bit before i take my chances. but this syma i would not have to worry as much about it. but i do want to kinda choose the one that flies better. thank you for the vids and if you can help me.
Neither is really appropriate for a first time flier. New fliers crash, crash hard, and crash often as they learn the hard way of what not to do. These two are just too big to withstand those crashes from their momentum. I always recommend the smaller/lighter Syma X5C for new fliers, due to its excellent stability, durability, and ease of flying. And it even has a camera too. Use it to learn the basics of flight with. Let this cheap quadcopter take the inevitable crashes and bangs of a beginner flier. And if you break it, every part on it is cheap, widely available, and easily replaceable. Later as your flying skills improve and you're not crashing as much, then consider something better/more expensive to lift your GoPro th-cam.com/video/y93vzA-KRlM/w-d-xo.html

If your quad is out of range, then it will fly off in the wind and probably crash into some trees or someones house...
There is no return to home function on Syma quadcopters. Its only on DJI dornes and other expensive ones...
just recently bought a x8g, and when i fly to high, the drone didnt respond at all on its way down (40m?) and crashed to the ground. amazingly.. it still works. eventualyy have to replace the bodywork.. was suprised that during freefall the response of the drone didnt came back! normal behaviour? or operator fault?
Thanks for the review. The good news is, the video from this "Syma" camera is better than the video from most Syma cameras. However, I think the video isn't any better than what I can get with an 808 Keychain camera (which weighs less than 1/3 as this camera - and no where near as nice as the video from my RunCam-HD). Also very disappointing is the range. If it were only a matter of shielding, you could wrap it in aluminum foil, but I think that any "hash" (RF noise) might be coming back to the flight controller board via that USB connection. There ARE ways they could have avoided that with a properly engineered FC board, but, oh well. Gosh, I can't imagine the carnage if you got that thing into VRS and it came straight down on those big landing feet (shudder!). I wish that these RTF multi-rotor companies would put a little more time into engineering and debugging their products, rather than spitting them out about every other week. +george kontopoulos No I did not use video stabilization. That is called "jello" effect from the quadcopter's vibrations. Video resolution is 1080p. No it does not follow the transmitter. That is available in $600+ quadcopters. X101 is actually good. i recall watching this video last year when i was considering purcaseing the W version which was all that was available in Dublin at the time.
I got a good few months out of it until it just droped dead in low and close proximity...luckily no one else close by....ppphhheeeewwww.
live video can be seen with wifi or not ? like some others
