    I just wanted to thank you for all your answers in the comment section. First I thought this was the best bang for the buck but then I read that the x8g model has superior video quality and doesn't fall down like that and then you advised that this isn't really for a beginner. You have been a great help.

    I agree with your point concerning the lifting abilities of the x8 Ryan.
    My first impression of the machine was it's size and weight.
    it is a very nice machine for the price though.
    really stable so far can hover in my small sitting room...just a bit too loud and powerful to try anything else but very enjoyable 👍

    thanks again for another great review Ryan,
    I finally got mine on Monday...haven't got it out yet due to high winds the last two days.
    I was advised to ditch the camera on the Syma forum.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +rcfanaticdublin Yeah, the camera is pretty worthless. Not really sure what the point is, since it doesn't film in high enough quality to be usable, and WiFi FPV is too laggy and short range to actually be used for FPV. I guess you could sort of use it as a real-time monitor for what you might be filming with an additional camera, like a Mobius. I wouldn't suggest carrying a GoPro with a brushed motor quad though.

      Only bought mine for flying not wifi fpv. I have other ideas for fpv. I use my inspire 1 for fpv and love it. My original phantom crashed hard and screwed up the naza and im not spending 300 dollors for a new one. So i ordered the x8w just for fun. Is it a good flyer?

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Then just remove the camera and I don't think you should have any dropout issues. It's not really the best flyer, but it's not really meant for flying... it's meant for affordable aerial video, and practicing to fly something like a Phantom, and it does that job well enough. :)

    did you like this one better than the wltoys v686g? I've been looking at a few entry level fpv quads wanted your opinion

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +CR Alltech No, not at all. The X8W is WiFi and the V686G is actual 5.8ghz FPV, which is a huge difference. If you want to do actual FPV flying, and not just have a real-time monitor of what you're filming, you want true 5.8ghz FPV.

    Hello, I bought a x8w and I noticed that the controls are reversed the right side turn and to fly sideways on the left stick, the same goes up and down, what can it be? How can I reset the radio?

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That means you bought a Mode 1 radio, not Mode 2. You cannot change that. You would have to buy a Mode 2 radio to replace your Mode 1 radio.

    Hi Ryan, really interesting video. I have just got this drone but have a problem, there is power both to the drone from the charged battery & to controller from 4 x AA Batteries. Sadly, although all seems to be in place, there does not seem to be communication between controller & drone. All display on controller display shows power % but the motors do not respond. I winder if you have any ideas why this should be. Thanks.

    My control for the x8w was set to limit transmission range so make sure to change that. If when you put your controller on an the range symbol on the top left blinks then you're in low range mode. Check "Steve Haresign" on how to change it.

    What the best drone under $200?, I was thinking port x fpv drone or maybe a Hinson x4. Maybe one of these but without a camera and put my GoPro on it

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Danny Menary There is simply no way to answer that question, since "best" is relative and has everything to do with your flying experience, and what sort of features you are looking for. And I would not suggest carrying a GoPro with any quad with brushed motors... you will kill the motors quickly by carrying that much weight.

    hi mate, i just bought this the other week, and it seems like my charger doesnt charge. i plug the battery in, and the green led doesnt turn on, and when i left the battery in for like 2 hours, and than put it back into the uav, the uav leds showed the low battery signal.
    did you had any sort of problem like that?

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Dani Végh I didn't have a problem with this specific charger, but I've had problems with countless other chargers. The chargers that come with these RTF packages are cheap an unreliable. I would suggest either investing in a real hobby-grade charger, if you think you'll make use of it, or contact the seller of the X8W about sending you a replacement charger.

  • @ellom8

    I don't understand. My Syma x5sw takes around 1 hour to charge before the red light goes off and I can get 6 - 8 minutes of video from it with prop guards on and landing legs (the most I got was 7 before everything started flashing and I switched the video off to land). This takes 3 hours to charge and only gets you around 11 minutes of flying? Crikey what a waste of 3 hours. Would you recommend this or the Tarantula x6 for flight time/charge time and efficiency of carrying camera's like the mobius?

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Dick Head Charge time has nothing to do with flight time, per se. And, you can charge the battery faster if you have a hobby grade charger. At the proper 1C charge rate, any LiPo battery should take about an hour to charge. As for the recommendation... I wouldn't necessarily suggest the Tarantula as a camera platform. It is a bit too sporty for aerial videography. The X8 would be much better. But, it is also a very big and heavy quad, so you should be an experienced pilot and sure that you won't crash it. Also, if you are in the USA, it requires FAA registration now.

    Hey Ryan
    After viewing most of your video about syma quadcopter im not able to chose which one to purchase.
    I didnt like the issue with live videos because most of them Are having delays.
    Which syma do you recommend as an expert
    Im still a beginer user and looking for nice videos shooting and fun in the same time

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, if you are a beginner, I would suggest the X5C or X5SC (they are basically the same, just a slightly different design). I would not suggest the X8 because it is too big for a beginner, and if you were to crash it, you could hurt someone or something, and the quad itself is not likely to survive the crash.

      ali hijazi X6 is still pretty big for a beginner. I suggest staying smaller while you learn, since the smaller and lighter they are, the safer they are, and the more likely they are to survive crashes.

    did you ever figure out what that drop out was, or ever have it happen again...? i fly over water a lot at wakeboard parks and i would be screwed if that happened even just once. im looking to get the wifi camera just so i can have a little idea of what im looking at while filming with my RunCam, but i dont want to risk loosing everything if the wifi signal is messing with the transmitter or receiver.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ian Smith That was the only time I had a dropout with this model, but I haven't flown it since the review, so I don't really know if it would be a frequent occurrence or not. If you're flying over water, I would say you're best off to not risk it and avoid WiFi. Go straight for 5.8ghz FPV. There is a Syma 5.8ghz camera system, but I'm not sure if it's compatible with this model.

    • @Ian_MacGregor
      @Ian_MacGregor 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Flyin' Ryan RC yeah, I saw the link for it that your posted as another reply. it has the small connector on it for the x5's, but i would imagine that with a little soldering it could be modified for the plug on an x8..

    I am planning to get this quad for my first 'bigger size' quad. I plan to use it for filming car meet/club kind of stuff for cool shots with my sj4000 cam. But my question is, if it hits someone, could it cause an injury like needing stitches? Or just kind of scratch them fall? Is it something that should be away from people? Also i noticed the random drop you had. I've heard that it is the fpv interference. Did it have any problems with out fpv?

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Bailey Shaw I would not suggest that at all. First, this quad can carry an SJ4000, but I would not recommend it, especially if you're think about also keeping the stock WiFi camera on it. This only has brushed motors, and carrying that kind of weight will kill the motors fast, and you don't want one dying mid-flight. And, without a gimbal, your footage won't be that great... you'll get much better looking footage with a gimbal. As for injury... it's certainly possible. I've cut myself with much smaller props. And I think another concern would simply be the weight of the thing falling on someone. Prop-strike or not, that could really hurt someone. I would definitely not suggest flying over people at all, even with a better quad. But, if you stayed off to the side of where the people are, I would think that should be safe.

      also, what is another quad with a similar size like the x8w that also has fpv?

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Bailey Shaw Well, what you really want for the purpose you want it for is something like the UAS A350 I reviewed, which has a true 5.8ghz (not WiFi) FPV camera, and a gimbal for a GoPro. And it also has brushless motors and GPS. So, it is much more suited for the task, however I would only suggest flying a quad like that if you are an experienced pilot and are confident you could fly it without crashing.

    I have a hubsan x4 and have mastered flying on it. I now want a bigger drone but don't have the money for a phantom. What drone do you recommend? I was looking at tarantula x6, jjrc h8d, syma x8g or are there any other which are better? I am looking for one with a camera.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Erick Gomez When you say "mastered" do you really mean mastered? Like, you're an expert pilot now, and have complete control over orientation and never crash? If so, you should be able to safely move up to the X8G. If not though, you might want to start with something a bit smaller, like the X5C, to further gain flying experience. You definitely won't want to crash something like the X8G.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Nomadic Society I wouldn't suggest carrying that much weight often, or at all really. You will kill the brushed motors quickly, and you certainly wouldn't want that to happen mid-flight. You really need brushless motors to carry a GoPro with any confidence.

    • @NomadicSociety
      @NomadicSociety 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes do you know where to buy brushless motors these stock ones are plug and play i ordered 4 extras only $17 brass bushing ones a little more but i want 8 brushless ones asap

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Nomadic Society Brushless motors aren't plug-n-play like that. They require an entirely different electronics system, so you are much better off getting a quad that comes with brushless electronics to start with. The frames are often designed different too, as this quad may not even be able to handle the power of brushless electronics.

      I think that should be fine, but carrying the weight of a GoPro (especially in addition to the stock camera) will put a lot of stress on the brushed motors, and will likely cause them to die early.

    Hey Ryan, what budget fpv quad do you recommend. I'm thinking the $100-$150 range. I want one with good range on the quad and the camera. It's for checking if the cows have had babies. I love the quadcopter hobby and I wanna get an fpv quadcopter.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +XxBabyGoatBoyxX Well, there are several parts to my answer... first, do you have any flying experience? Because, if not, you'll want something to learn flight on first. Second, good range and low price don't necessarily go hand in hand. The Estes Proto X FPV with a 3rd party antenna connected may be your best bet, but I think that would be closer to $200.

    • @deerwithitUwU
      @deerwithitUwU 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Flyin' Ryan RC ok I was thinking something bigger and I can go to $200. I have experience with the ares micro and nano quads. I have the Ethos pq and the spidex.

    • @deerwithitUwU
      @deerwithitUwU 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +XxBabyGoatBoyxX I was thinking about the jjrc v686g or the sky hawkeye 1315s. Would you recommend either of those?

      +XxBabyGoatBoyxX I just need it to go a few hundred feet.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      XxBabyGoatBoyxX I don't have first-hand experience with the 1315s, but I did review the older 2.4ghz version. The quad itself is pretty decent, so the 5.8ghz FPV version would probably be good. I really liked the V686G, but I had issues with the monitor being too dim to be seen in sunlight. I think either one would do the job you are looking to do though. :)

    yeah...this flight really made up my mind to keep away from FPV for the foreseeable future. Looks like more trouble and cost than what I am willing to put into it. What is the primary reason do you think is driving the poor performance? Maybe what, another year or two to be able to afford a quality quad with FPV. I have not looked at more expensive systems. Are they any better? Thanks Ryan!

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +George Hopper Well, WiFi is simply not up to the task of FPV. It's just a cheap gimmicky way for companies to put "FPV" on the box. There are some affordable 5.8ghz FPV options out there though, like the WLtoys V686G, JJRC H6D, Hubsan X4 FPV, Estes Proto X FPV, etc.

    How's this one holding up for you now? I'm considering picking one up from Xheli. I'm sure it would be best to have 3 batteries.
    Camera is the iffy part seems like and usually that's what a drone is needed for, aerial video.
    Otherwise great video. Liked and subbed.
    Will let you know when I get one of these.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +TheTruckerRick I haven't flown it since the review. The camera is worthless. If you want this for aerial video, I would suggest the X8G. But, also, are you an experienced pilot? I would NOT suggest this as your first quadcopter.

    • @TheTruckerRick
      @TheTruckerRick 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Flyin' Ryan RC looking into the X8G. It has an 8mp camera and about twice the price so it defiantly should be better. This would be my first Drone purchase. Thinking I still may start with the x5w as seen here. Looks like the biggest problem was camera quality other than it going dead once. I'm sure you just ran it out of range, have read a lot have small signal range.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheTruckerRick I was not even remotely close to flying out of range. It was like 20ft away. lol Anyway, like I said, if this is your first quadcopter, DO NOT start with something this big!! You need to learn how to fly on something smaller and safer first.

    • @TheTruckerRick
      @TheTruckerRick 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Flyin' Ryan RC I've been reading anymore an finding others that are having connectivity problems like you did. Decided I am going to pickup an X8G but also getting a UDI U27 invert quadcopter. Pretty small an does have 3 sensitive settings (no camera). But it will get me use to it before putting the x8g up. So buying but am taking your advice to try a smaller one first.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheTruckerRick It is good to start on something smaller, however that U27 won't be a good one to learn with either. 3D quads are harder to fly, due to the prop pitch versus power. And the U27 is quite heavy, meaning it is more likely to break in a crash. This is my suggestion for beginners: th-cam.com/video/N4qJNgV0DGI/w-d-xo.html

      Flyin' Ryan RC Stock this is just the wifi which interferes with the performance of the quad due to signal interference, I would get that cam that Ryan pointed out it is only 55 bucks and works on the X5C, X5W (out of box) comes with its own monitor and I am sure can be mounted to the other larger syma line some way. It does not need to use the syma controller to work so no wiring modifications are needed either ^^

There is no gimbal support, so you would have to rig all that yourself, and in the long run, it wouldn't be worth the effort, since carrying that much weight with brushed motors will kill the motors quickly, and it would probably fly very poorly carrying that much weight. You need brushless motors for that sort of payload.

    The connectors on the battery are HXT connectors and I believe they are 3.5mm. I have an X8W and just ordered some from HobbyKing.com I won't be able to confirm the size until they come in. Since the battery has a male plug, I have not been able to find a ready made adapter that will work with a conventional charger so I'll have to make my own. +Flyin' Ryan RC Well I could do it that way but one day I'll have a brain cramp, plug the positive into the positive and for some reason I don't think reversing polarity would be a good thing to do with a LiPo battery.

      StarShep Depending on your charger, it should detect that and give a warning and not start charging. :)

      +Flyin' Ryan RC Yes it should. But I'm not willing to bet the house on that. Plus, soldering on the right connector is a pretty easy way of doing the job right.

      Flyin' Ryan RC (drop the mic

      Julian Santos Hahaha, though, I don't answer this way to "drop the mic", I answer this way because I simply don't memorize this sort of detail for all of the 500+ RCs I've reviewed. lol So, for me to answer the question would require that I watch my own review, so instead I just tell the question asker to watch the review to find their answer. :)
