    Thank you for the reply, so often in the world of TH-cam, comments and questions go unanswered! I have been wanting to get away from large complex R/C heli's. It has just become too much and kinda lost its "fun" factor. So flying a little gizmo inside the house was just the relaxing change I was looking for. So as I mentioned before, your reviews are just tops!!! Thanks to YOU!!!! I got my feet wet with you one you spoke highly of, and now the X8HG arrived today. Thank you, I was almost burned out and ready to get out of the RC world all together. Please keep up the good work my friend, you really did make a difference in this long time flyer!

      Glad to hear all of that! I was a long-time YT watcher, before I started making videos, so I am very familiar with the frustration with content creators that don't respond to comments. So, when I decided to start making videos, I made it a priority to reply to every comment I get. :) I was very much in the same place as you... I started out with model rockets when I was a kid, and then got into some kit RC cars... but it just got to be too much hobby and not enough fun. It was more work than play, and I grew tired of that, as life became more busy. I left the hobby for a while (I'm sure being a high schooler had a lot to do with that as well, lol). But, then in 2006 Air Hogs introduced the Havoc Heli. When I saw a commercial for that, I was absolutely blown away that the hobby had gotten to the point that they could make helicopters that you could fly in the house! And I've been loving and flying small RCs ever since. :D And, now with quadcopters and accelerometers in helicopters, and a focus on making RTF models, even the bigger stuff is becoming easier to fly and less time-consuming to manage. :)

    Hi Ryan, you do an exceptional job of presenting your review. The way you keep a steady shot of the box and product along with your narration are really great and I hope you keep this format in your future videos. I notice your copter itself video quality is better than in some other reviews which are full of an absurd amount of jello. I can only guess they have an unbalanced prop or two causing their problems.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      If this is your first flying RC, I would suggest learning on something smaller and safer first. You don't want to crash this, as it could hurt someone, and will likely break in a crash.

  • @goaway3487

    The best thing you could do to help with visual orientation by to borrow a pair of the orange props and 2 of the landing legs from the Orange X8C you already have. Its going to look funny against the silver body but you will still be able to orient it in flight easier. Have a Black C and a Orange W and moved parts around on both and the Black/Orange and Orange/Black color combos look really good and now they are easier to keep them going in the desired direction. And you can buy the G camera loose if you already own a C or W version.

    Great review, Ryan - as usual! . Camera quality is not bad, but because it can't be used as a stand alone, I went down the CX20 route using a Xiaomi Yi camera. It may be a little more expensive doing it that way, but I think it is worth it for the extra options you get with a stand alone camera.

      +Flyin' Ryan RC Hi, im thinking about getting a x8g soon but am a little concerned with the weight of it and the motors. That's a lot of stress on the brushed motors to carry that much weight. How long have you had this and have you needed to change or fix any of the motors? Also how does this fly in the cold during winter time?Also can you recommend any other quadcopter that offers this video quality and is around the same price range? Thanks.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nathan Eck I haven't flown it enough to give an idea of how long the motors last, but you are right that this thing will likely kill motors pretty quickly. As for flying in winter, that is no problem for the quad, however LiPo batteries don't last as long in cold, so expect shorter flight times. And, I don't think there is anything else with this video quality in this price range.

    • @goaway3487
      @goaway3487 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Nathan Eck You can extend the life of brushed motors by running the quad at idle on the ground for 2 to 3 batteries worth, 30 mins is enough, before flying it. This will break in the brushes allowing them to seat properly and it extends the life of the motors. Also improves the output from the motors slightly VS running them hard when new. It's also a great way to break in new batteries and extend the life and performance of the lipos. Batteries for the X8 run 12 bucks for stock and up to 20 for larger capacity batteries so it's worth taking the time to break them in slowly and not under stress. This isn't as much fun as flying but it's worth being patient.

    Damn that camera is damn good. Especially considering one of this quality would have been about 170 on its own no more than a few years ago. Now it's like buying a camera with a free quadcopter attached. I was thinking on picking up a quad with a camera that is at least somewhat immersive. This is kind of perfect, and a total leap up from the x5c-1. Plus the long legs would be good for some winter flying which isn't too far off being a fellow midwesterner.

    Hello Flyin' Ryan. I have just found your video's and I must say I very much enjoy them!!! I am really interested in the Syma X8HG. It seems to be just like the X8G, but it has a barometer, so it has height hold capabilities. Do you plan on doing a review on the X8HG? If not a full review, do you have an opinion on it? Thanks for all the fantastic video reviews buddy!

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! And yep, I just received the X8HG and will be doing a full review, but I suspect it'll be pretty much the exact same as this review, but with the added altitude-hold abilities. And, based on my testing of the X5HC so far (I haven't started testing the X8HG yet), the alt-hold works well, and is a nice added feature for this type of aerial video quad. :) I would've liked to see them add a 1-axis gimbal to the camera, which is something that is starting to show up in some other similar quads, like the JJRC H28.

    Ryan, a little bit unrelated, but is it better to buy more of cheap quadcopters, for example 4 Hubsan X4 quadcopters, or a single expensive quadcopter, for example Blade 180 QX. I'd like to get the Blade but I'm afraid I'll crash it and break it. Also, most of my quadcopters have had their motors burn out, so that's another thing I worry about. Are Blade and other expensive quadcopters more sturdy than cheap models? Thanks!

    i think that plug is hxt 3.5mm.
    One specs I would them to mention in such big brushed quad is kinda average no of flights we can expect from that big brushed motor before it burns out.I guess if we buy this, we should buy bunch of spare motors too :/
    Also I think seby mentioned abt the manual operation button on the cam which reside inside. but not sure how we can power this up.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ashish Amatya I don't think there is a simple answer to how many flights you can expect out of a brushed motor. There are simply too many factors that can go into it, such as user care.... crashing, letting the motors cool, not carrying extra weight, etc, etc.

    I enjoyed this video ! I have a smaller radio shack drone, which is good for a learner. I know that the version that you have is something like $1200.00, which is crazy for a beginner like me. But I like things that fly so this was a cool video !! All the best

    Flyin' Ryan Rc What are these strange stripes in: 14:01 - 14:09 and 14:25 ? It's because of the sun ? I see sometimes this effect in other movies ...

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Patryk Satriani Yeah, that is due to the sun shining through the spinning props, which casts a shadow on the camera lens, resulting in that effect you see. This can be fixed with a lens hood around the lens, but that doesn't seem to be a common feature on quad cameras.

      It will drift and lose its height. The only way a quad will hover in place is if it has GPS.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I checked out a couple of your videos. :) If you want to be able to fly inside some of those places, I would suggest something smaller. The Mavic Pro would be great for that, but very expensive. Maybe something like the Dobby, which has electronic image stabilization? It's meant more for selfies, but I think you could use it for your uses. You really want something with a stabilized camera, or else your footage will just be very jerky, especially if you're trying to fly indoors. Also, if you have no flying experience, keep in mind that you'll want something small and safe to learn to fly with first, before moving up to trying aerial videography.

    • @theimacman

      WiFi FPV cameras create their own WiFi network. So, you connect your phone to the camera's WiFi. It is not the same as the WiFi your internet router broadcasts.

    Hi Ryan! I bought my first drone, the pocket mini drone, a couple of months ago based on your great review. It's now time to upgrade :) What would be your choice for a budget drone similar to the syma x8 but with fpv? Many thanks in advance, Victor.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, there is the X8W, but I don't really suggest WiFi FPV, and I'm not sure you'll find any standard 5.8ghz FPV in a "budget" model in this size. Maybe this? www.banggood.com/Cheerson-CX-32S-CX32S-5_8G-FPV-With-2_0MP-HD-Camera-High-Hold-Mode-RC-Quadcopter-RTF-p-1022177.html?p=Z431161082112012126P

    Besides the camera, what's the difference between this and the x8c. Also, how well does the x8c fly with a GoPro?

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Skinematic Films There is no difference than the camera (though, the X8G may have different motors, since I have noticed that spares motors are listed separately for the X8G, compared to the X8C/X8W). And, I would not suggest carrying a GoPro with any quad with brushed motors. It will fly poorly and you will kill the motors quickly.

    • @billschlafly4107
      @billschlafly4107 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm new to the hobby and found that a heavy GoPro helps me by dampening my novice jerky input. I'll keep the brushes in mind even though a replacement copter without the battery and transmitter is under $50. Hell, I'll probably bust the thing up before the brushes wear out.

    • @theimacman

    I'm seeing a lot of question's about WI FI.Here is a lil FYI,any Syma model with model numbers ending in "W" signifies WI FI/ FPV. If you want a FPV model Syma drone, X8HW is the model. "H" signifies altitude hold.

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And furthermore, WiFi FPV is entirely worthless, so I wouldn't even suggest it. lol

      +xxryan76xx No RTH. RTH requires GPS in order to be at all reliable. There are some cheap quads that offer RTH by using Headless Mode, but it is entirely unreliable.

    Hey Ryan. Any chance you could test the X8G transmitter thru glass? Like will it send thru a window to the quad out in the yard if it's still in sight? I know it's the oddest question you ever hear, but there is method to my madness. :o)

    • @theimacman
      @theimacman  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, that'll work just fine. Modern RCs use 2.4ghz radios, so like WiFi or a cordless phone, the radio signal penetrates walls, etc... so glass will be no issue. :)
