I have just given one of these to my son for his birthday. We have both been flying the Cheerson CX-10 for a little while, so this is quite a step up for him. He's a very careful flyer so I think this will be ideal for him. I've ordered a X5C-1 for myself - I'm a little more adventurous than he is ;-) Your videos are excellent and extremely informative!
Love your video reviews..very informative. I recently bought this quad copter and I love it. Camera is not that great, but I did find a way to have no jello effect while flying. I simply tightened the mount the camera is on, on the top(2 screws) and on the sides(snug them up real good). You will notice that there still is some play but I have absolutely no jello what so ever.(I also balanced my props.) Hope to have a short video up soon. Please keep the videos coming!!
Thanks 101! Love your review as always. This is my favorite "sport quad". I own 3 of them. The X8 can be configured in many ways. My X8s have flown with a 4k HD Vemico camera, generic 1080 camera, aerial drop module, flown Halloween and Christmas props, etc. Work horse. Maximum take off weight with load is 700 grams, tested. As for crashes, mine have dropped from almost 50 meters and survived more than once. Sturdy bird. Flown them over the sea, lakes, desert, landed on the sea, etc. The X8 is almost indestructible. Without legs, camera, motor covers and battery cover it flies great and flips. To lift action camera, I recommend the upgrade to improved motors. I get 7 min with action cam, and up to 11 minutes with 2200 mAh Tenergy packs. Still my favorite quad to have fun and not risk my Yuneec and Hubsan birds.
Your videos are invaluable, just saw that the X8c is about $33 now and had to come see if it's worth it. I try to buy any quad that will bind to the Radiomaster TX16S and the Syma will. Thanks a million man. Hope you are staying healthy.

Great video and orientation explanation..."Situational Awareness" Love the bright orange color. Actually can see it. More companies need bright colors. Looks like a really smooth flyer. Prop guards would really help.
i bought this a couple days ago and yesterday it came in i was really happy because this is my FIRST Quadcopter! Alot of youtubers said that this isn't recommended for beginners like me, but once i lifted it off there was no problem flying it id not crash it once. I've put a GoPro hero 3 to my Syma x8c and got some pretty cool shots with it. It's not bad once you get the hang of it. Although a live video feed and gimbal would make a world of difference for videos it is still fun to fly!

Great video thanks one thing though turning of your transmitter before the quad is a bad habit to get into as many quads PPL will move onto will have failsafe that would kiosk in on loss of signal
Well, I just lost one of those small pins that hold the props on. I went to Banggood and ordered a set of what I think are the right pins. I was balancing the prop. I have a feeling, because of how far off the prop was, that once all 4 are balanced a lot of the jello will disappear. The hub was ok but I had to remove material from one side of the prop. I'm going to wait to do the other three until I have the replacement pins.
Yep camera is full of jello and rolling shutter issues, but an incredible value for a copter it seems. I ordered one. Not sure I trust it with my hero3 black, so I may get a runcam too.

One more question, is there any way that I can make this syma x8c charge faster? because I really don't want to wait 180 minutes. When I purchased my P3standard, I began sport flying primarily at night with my P2vision, since I lost my P2vision in a garage fire, I purchased my P3pro and now want to sport night fly my P3standard... Is the P3standard fly able without the camera/gimbal???
I am really hyped about Cyphy LV1. I am getting one. It does not tip into the wind. Super camera too. Sill getting use to my V686g putting a V686J camera to it because it is at 60 FPS 1080. Much better camera. The V686G camera footage when it is moving is poor lots of wavy lines.
***** I use a Top Flight balancer, Dubro is another good one. I then usually sand the blade till balanced. Sometimes I will use pieces of tape on the blade to bring it up to the correct weight.
hi quadcopter 101 got the syma 8xc as my first copter it is really durable crashed several time and still flys thats the good the bad is poor yaw rate very slow so not to good for first time. and has no hover will go up or down. so goin to tear it down and do a rebuild. now my question is going to upgrade and thing that the v303 seeker is good any comments
It does look like the Phantom, specifically the old Vision. Maybe someday they will make it with a two axis gimbal for steadier video. Now that would be cool!
I recently purchased the Syma x8c quadcopter. This was my first quadcopter purchase and I'm in a little over my head. After i calibrate the gyros, i take off in mode 1 only using the throttle. The quadcopter drifts forward so much, is this normal? Is it possible for the quadcopter to just hover up and down until I get the feel for it? When taking off, is it normal to need the throttle almost all of the way up to get the thing in the air?
Good stuff, in RC practice it is always good to turn off the model first before turning off the transmitter. Often while flying RC planes or even some quads, if the ESCs lose connection with a form of control (transmitter or GPS) they can cause the motors to spin up because there is no signal telling the motors not to. One of my RC buddies forgot to do a proper shutdown of his plane and caused a pretty severe injury.. This quad clearly doesn't have that issue, its just good practice. Im hopefully getting a Syma X8 sent to me from gearbest to do a review! Pretty excited, should be fun to fly something thats not small and light, but also not a large GPS quad such as my Inspire :)
Just ordered one of these and plan to swap the flight controller for either an F3 Evo or Multiwii because this would make a really good cheap Gopro platform with all the extra features I could add.
I had a flight today that I will never forget with my syma x8c. I added a 1080p camera and it was not the best camera it only works about half the time usually it kicks off when I'm in the air I ordered the HD run cam and it will be here in a couple of days but I was just playing around at my house and my driveway is not very level and its not a good spot to bind the quadcopter but I did it anyway and I had several times before but I had added that camera and mount and it added some extra weight but the quadcopter Carrie's it pretty good when calibrated right when I got up about 150 ft a had a hard wind gust coming from the west and I started pushing forward on the controller and I thought at first I was in low mode because I had no forward pitch or thrust but the wind pushed my quadcopter across the sky and I went chasing after it I could see the orientation and I could turn the yaw but pushing forward I had nothing so I crashed and i went looking for my quadcopter and I was very lucky because it landed in a not so busy street where this guy was out flying his hexicopter and saw my syma x8c come crashing out of the sky and he picked it up out of the street a saw me running down the street looking for it I could not believe it when I got home and I had gotten all of this on video in 1080p so it was a very clear video I'm working on uploading and editing it now I will call it syma x8c flies away but it went through power lines perfectly with out touching them it is a pretty scary experience but a funny video especially when you see me chasing after it. lol I hope to have it uploaded by tomorrow
Great review. You mentioned adding foam to the camera - like in between the inner and outer shell? I loved all my other syma toys and I've been researching this new big quad as a cheap, but strong and stable platform for getting into aerial photography and fpv. I just ordered mine last night and can't wait for its slow delivery...
you mentioned using a X5C transmitter. do you know if the X8C transmitter will work with an X5C-1? My transmitter died and a guy has an X8C transmitter for sale cheaper than I can buy a X5C-1 transmitter.
I'm two years late. But if you're still interested, a DJI spark cause it's easy to fly, cheaper than other drones with a gimbal. If you want more than 1080p though you're gonna have to go bigger in price also. Suggest the mavic air.

Can the camera on the X8C be removed to replace with a Gopro? Also, have you heard of the SJ4000 answer to Gopro? VERY affordable compared to the Gopro, but most likely better than the really small things. It may even fit the Gopro gimbals. I don't know.

1145 Feet! Nearly a quarter mile. This is where my X8C peaked this morning according to my altimeter one. It was a tiny little black speck in the blue sky. If I averted my eyes I'd miss it completely.
hey quadcopter 101 i have used a drone even around people and im pretty good never hit anything or anyone.with that being said would this be a good drone for me or is there a better option.btw the way im looking for a drone under 100 pretty good flight time and a good camera
These quadcopters definitely are not fragile! I have personally seen one dropped from over sixty feet, slammed into a house, and crashed into another quad all in the same flight with no damage that effected flight in any way! I have also slammed one into a gravel driveway without even any cosmetic damage. These are great, durable quads.

Since the Tarantula is lighter, would it be good for lifting a Gopro? Do you have any reviews of the more professional copters, in the 900.00 to 1,500 dollar range? so I just got my x8c and it does not seem to want to move to the right and upon takeoff it pulls to the left hard. could this be a bad motor, I broke the motors in for two batteries worth at low speeds.
+gary porter No you likely put one (or both) of the propellers on the left side on the wrong motors. There are two clockwise and two counter clockwise propellers and motors. All motors should be blowing air downward. If put on a wrong motor, they'll blow air upward, and cause the quadcopter to flip. with the power of modding/hacking/DIY, is it possible to solder X8 motors on a X5C? I know I'd probably have to do some cutting to make room. Really I was thinking of brushless motors, but they are pricy and I heard you'll also need a whole new transmitter. But the X8 is more than strong enough to lift a gopro style cam
Hey I just learned that they released the x8w, WiFi FPV version of this machine. It would be interesting to see if the FPV camera interchanges with the x8c. From what I can tell, it mounts up and plugs in the same way the regular camera does. The camera sells for around thirty dollars from Syma and if it is interchangeable (no extra firmware on the flight controller) , it would be a neat add on.

Quadcopter 101 Bookmarked til payday :) I was really on the fence about WiFi FPV, having heard all kinds of things about it, both good and bad. The big thing I was worried about was lag in a close environment. My interest in quads is for the photography and FPV side of the coin and not the racing or stunt side. The results I got with the x5c were great for the price point. A friend of mine introduced me to flying these and now I can't put em' down. :) The closest thing to being able to fly and see like superman. Every kid's dream I guess.
Hey there I have been watching your channel for a while now, and got my X8C yesterday for fathers day!! I love it, after flying it a little bit I decided to check out the pictures, and video, however the camera doesn't seem to be working at all, it will take pictures, and video, however they are just lines, no actual pictures, I can hear sound on the video, but no video. Any idea where I might be able to get a replacement camera for it? I have a GoPro but not confident enough to put it on there yet. Thanks

+Quadcopter 101 I have been looking into getting the X8C and was leaning toward getting the orange color. I was thinking that theoretically it would be more visible in the sky due to a greater contrast against the blue and I feel it would also be more visible to people who may be in the area. Would you say that orange is more visible/safer then the white or black and would you recommend the orange over the other color options?
quick question, if i dont get a full flight in on the battery is it ok to charge it or should i drain it all the way before. just wondering if half charging/ discharging will cut down on the batterys life.
+Lake Life Storing at fully charged will cut down on the battery life. After a flight, just leave it as is (UNLESS you really drained it empty). If you did drain it dry (the quadcopter fell out of the sky), then give it a short charge when you get home to get it a bit above that level.
can you recommend any parallel charging board with bullet connector for syma x8 battery? Do you charge this batteries with only balance plug using hobby grade charger?
the antenna bars r continuesly blinking on my remote even after i bind the quad to transmitter and my drone if flying like it have no power to lift it fkys around 5 to 6 feet max ... already changed motors :(
+Akash DEEP Try new batteries for the TX. But regarding the quadcopter, try a rapid takeoff. If the quadcopter momentarily tilts in the direction of a particular motor, then levels out, then that one motor may be failing and should be replaced. Try one of your old motors in its place.
I just began using my x8c with the Walkera G-2D gimbal and sj5000 and find it to be a little sluggish in take-off, even at high rate. Would you suggest larger props and maybe a stronger battery. Now using stock props and 2000 mah batteries.
The X8C does not have enough lifting power to lift a camera and gimbal. Recommend flying with a camera only. If a gimbal is important, then you'll need to consider something with more lifting power, like CX-20, V303, or Flying 3D X8.
my friend gearbest now is $50 but eu plug what different in us plug only adapter ????i do love taranturax6 because very light weight also i found cheap motors for $1.13 work fine...is good to buy symax8 or what

For taking stills and the odd video with a 2 axis gimbal attached, should I go MJX X101 or Syma X8? I'm essentially looking for the most stable, most reliable and the easiest to modify
I would not suggest either for attaching a gimbal as it is only brushed motors but if you are not willing to get a brushless one when you buy it you may want to order some spare motors!

I also use a Tarantula x6 and it does a great job with the camera/gimbal setup. Once you use a gimbal it's hard to go back! 😀

I added a 1080p camera and it was not the best camera it only works about half the time usually it kicks off when I'm in the air I ordered the HD run cam and it will be here in a couple of days but I was just playing around at my house and my driveway is not very level and its not a good spot to bind the quadcopter but I did it anyway and I had several times before but I had added that camera and mount and it added some extra weight but the quadcopter Carrie's it pretty good when calibrated right when I got up about 150 ft a had a hard wind gust coming from the west and I started pushing forward on the controller and I thought at first I was in low mode because I had no forward pitch or thrust but the wind pushed my quadcopter across the sky and I went chasing after it I could see the orientation and I could turn the yaw but pushing forward I had nothing so I crashed and i went looking for my quadcopter and I was very lucky because it landed in a not so busy street where this guy was out flying his hexicopter and saw my syma x8c come crashing out of the sky and he picked it up out of the street a saw me running down the street looking for it I could not believe it when I got home and I had gotten all of this on video in 1080p so it was a very clear video I'm working on uploading and editing it now I will call it syma x8c flies away but it went through power lines perfectly with out touching them it is a pretty scary experience but a funny video especially when you see me chasing after it. lol I hope to have it uploaded by tomorrow

Great review. You mentioned adding foam to the camera - like in between the inner and outer shell? I loved all my other syma toys and I've been researching this new big quad as a cheap, but strong and stable platform for getting into aerial photography and fpv. I just ordered mine last night and can't wait for its slow delivery...

I'm two years late. But if you're still interested, a DJI spark cause it's easy to fly, cheaper than other drones with a gimbal. If you want more than 1080p though you're gonna have to go bigger in price also. Suggest the mavic air.

Also, have you heard of the SJ4000 answer to Gopro? VERY affordable compared to the Gopro, but most likely better than the really small things. It may even fit the Gopro gimbals. I don't know.

1145 Feet! Nearly a quarter mile. This is where my X8C peaked this morning according to my altimeter one. It was a tiny little black speck in the blue sky. If I averted my eyes I'd miss it completely.
Be careful. If you'd lose sight of it, and it dropped, I'd be worried about the people below it.

These quadcopters definitely are not fragile! I have personally seen one dropped from over sixty feet, slammed into a house, and crashed into another quad all in the same flight with no damage that effected flight in any way! I have also slammed one into a gravel driveway without even any cosmetic damage. These are great, durable quads.

so I just got my x8c and it does not seem to want to move to the right and upon takeoff it pulls to the left hard. could this be a bad motor, I broke the motors in for two batteries worth at low speeds.
+gary porter No you likely put one (or both) of the propellers on the left side on the wrong motors. There are two clockwise and two counter clockwise propellers and motors. All motors should be blowing air downward. If put on a wrong motor, they'll blow air upward, and cause the quadcopter to flip. with the power of modding/hacking/DIY, is it possible to solder X8 motors on a X5C? I know I'd probably have to do some cutting to make room. Really I was thinking of brushless motors, but they are pricy and I heard you'll also need a whole new transmitter. But the X8 is more than strong enough to lift a gopro style cam
Hey I just learned that they released the x8w, WiFi FPV version of this machine. It would be interesting to see if the FPV camera interchanges with the x8c. From what I can tell, it mounts up and plugs in the same way the regular camera does.
The camera sells for around thirty dollars from Syma and if it is interchangeable (no extra firmware on the flight controller) , it would be a neat add on.

Quadcopter 101 Bookmarked til payday :) I was really on the fence about WiFi FPV, having heard all kinds of things about it, both good and bad. The big thing I was worried about was lag in a close environment. My interest in quads is for the photography and FPV side of the coin and not the racing or stunt side. The results I got with the x5c were great for the price point. A friend of mine introduced me to flying these and now I can't put em' down. :)
The closest thing to being able to fly and see like superman. Every kid's dream I guess.
Hey there I have been watching your channel for a while now, and got my X8C yesterday for fathers day!! I love it, after flying it a little bit I decided to check out the pictures, and video, however the camera doesn't seem to be working at all, it will take pictures, and video, however they are just lines, no actual pictures, I can hear sound on the video, but no video.
Any idea where I might be able to get a replacement camera for it? I have a GoPro but not confident enough to put it on there yet.

Mine came with the round battery plugs. What did yours come with. I have seen some are different why is that
***** I have the "T" plug, and it's a son of a gun to disconnect. Count your blessings if you can unplug your battery easily with the round connector.
+Quadcopter 101 I have been looking into getting the X8C and was leaning toward getting the orange color. I was thinking that theoretically it would be more visible in the sky due to a greater contrast against the blue and I feel it would also be more visible to people who may be in the area. Would you say that orange is more visible/safer then the white or black and would you recommend the orange over the other color options?

quick question, if i dont get a full flight in on the battery is it ok to charge it or should i drain it all the way before. just wondering if half charging/ discharging will cut down on the batterys life.
+Lake Life Storing at fully charged will cut down on the battery life. After a flight, just leave it as is (UNLESS you really drained it empty). If you did drain it dry (the quadcopter fell out of the sky), then give it a short charge when you get home to get it a bit above that level.

the antenna bars r continuesly blinking on my remote even after i bind the quad to transmitter and my drone if flying like it have no power to lift it fkys around 5 to 6 feet max ... already changed motors :(
+Akash DEEP Try new batteries for the TX. But regarding the quadcopter, try a rapid takeoff. If the quadcopter momentarily tilts in the direction of a particular motor, then levels out, then that one motor may be failing and should be replaced. Try one of your old motors in its place.
I just began using my x8c with the Walkera G-2D gimbal and sj5000 and find it to be a little sluggish in take-off, even at high rate. Would you suggest larger props and maybe a stronger battery. Now using stock props and 2000 mah batteries.
The X8C does not have enough lifting power to lift a camera and gimbal. Recommend flying with a camera only. If a gimbal is important, then you'll need to consider something with more lifting power, like CX-20, V303, or Flying 3D X8.

I would not suggest either for attaching a gimbal as it is only brushed motors but if you are not willing to get a brushless one when you buy it you may want to order some spare motors!
