That was a smooth landing... I tend to drop mine a little. I love my with the Phantom landing gear... just have to be on point when you land so you don't tip. Love how the motor pods, photo bomb the video... ;)

I noticed no jello what so ever on yr video. All down to the Walkera mount I guess. My stock camera lasted just two flights so I upgraded to gopro clone very early. Blade balancing cuts out jello effect but requires patience. Having seen yr results going to order the gimbal today, great video nicely put together.

This video is one continuous flight edited and transitions discarded.
From take off to landing in the video is 6:40 and if the discarded transitions were to be included then it should be more than 7 minutes.
I landed it before complete battery depletion.

so i have a soma X8W and it has real problems lifting the copter with any camera attached. Ive attached it with a SJCam and a Xiaomi Yi. Both give the copter a lot of problems. She lifts fine, but once you start coming down, its almost impossible to regain lift again. Any ideas?
Make sure all of your motors are at 100%
If one of them is bad, the gyro will compensate the other three so it flies level.
Lower each motor pod and throttle up to check.

the gimbal is capable but the quads remote is not. so you will need a quad that has those functions built in such as that of the cx20.

I used a jst plug from one of my bad quadcopter battery and just spliced it to the x8g battery and guided through the small opening of the battery bay door.

Very nice! Careful with that gimbal. Mine broke with a very minor crash from about 6ft.

I have the same setup camera Gimbal phantom legs and my syma x8c doesn't have the power to keep it up flying it lift it but then when it goes down doesn't have the power to lift it up again.

hmmm....
have you tried testing all of your motors? maybe one of them is slightly bad or it may be good but the motor mount may be slightly warped due to heat of the motor. sometimes when one motor is not fully functional at 100 %, the accelerometer/gyro will compensate by lowering the three strong motors to match the weak motor and thus, weaker quad performance.
try holding the quad in your hand and up the throttle on the remote and tilt each motor pod down and see if any of the motors seem less strong than the others.
that is flown at the factory on the film?

Do you have live feed from your camera to a device on your controller? Nice footage
The xiaomi Yi camera does have a live wifi feed to your phone via the Yi app but the latency is really bad.
Why not mount the gimbal to the back plate by drilling four small holes and using tiny nuts and bolts to put them together and put a spacer between with card to push the camera on the gimbal towards the ground slightly so you dont see the blades? You have inspired me to make this my self as this is cheaper than a phantom!

I did not make mine permanent because of the uses I have for this gimbal setup.
I use it for my selfie gimbal stick combo, as well as when I get another quad of equal caliber, I would want to quickly unstrap it and transfer it over to another quad :)

Awesome. Video is stable like the DJI Phantom. I have a X8G but cant take smooth video like this. Moving left or right screws up video. Looks erratic. Does it not do that with the Gimball mount?

As a matter of fact, one of the motors went out after my 4th flight with this set up and what is bad about it was the bad motor caused some damage to the board and now the new motor activates when the power is turned on without the transmitter turning on so now a replacement board is necessary!!!!

Yup, just a little lower and maybe a sun shade to block the prop/sun shadows. I see the Tarantula does well with the same camera gear. Just need enough weight to steady the cam to get rid of the jello and shakes.

Great mod! You could run this setup on the CX20 all day but you've proven it can be done on a toy grade, very cool. Have you gone through any motors on the X8 yet? I just got the X8HC yesterday in the mail and I love it, gonna slap the micro vtx on it this weekend and have some fun. I did balance the props and add the extra washer from the spare props and I have to say it's worthy of ordering a second battery : ) The altitude hold works pretty well and it hovers rock solid, haven't tested the camera but i just did a video balancing my props.

the cx20 had this setup for a while but the start up process sucks!!! x16 is bind and go :)

already did something similar, 1st flight the motors burned out then I replaced them with brand new motors, now the thing won't lift at all. anyone thinking about doing this DONT! just get a cx20 or better.

the yi cam is lighter than the silver so try moving your cam more to the center of gravity.

How did you make it fly? I have an X8G and my G-2D is metal, and it does not get off the ground. Maximum one meter.
And the batteries are new and when I accelerate the gimbal turns off.

the metal gimbal is heavier than this plastic one i use...x8 is not capable of lifting that much weight.

Need some help. I have the same setup and when I begin to throttle up everything is ok. Then when i give more throttle to climb or correct the flight path. my gimbal drops down looses the gyroscopic effect and points down or up and just shakes. do you have an idea? I have the wire soldiered to the circuit board and not at spliced into the battery wire like i have seen others do. but that should not matter. I think! can you help?
what it sounds like is just that. the power supply is insufficient for the necessary consumption. It could very well be power not directly supplied like the splice....maybe it does matter....im not sure but it works for me with the splice.
I have also done a transmitter added on to this set up and at take off, it does the same thing you are experiencing

You can add s sliver of foam behind the top area between the cam and the gimbal to angle down the view but this quad does not have another channel to control the gimbal angle.

Would the camera that comes with the XG8 work with the Walkera G20 Gimbal?
It does but 3 quarters need to be added to balance the gimbal and the power cord for the camera gets in the way of free movement.
Can you move the camera up and down with this mod/gimbal (sorry I'm a newb)? This quality looks enough for me to purchase as a starting drone (for some cool aerial video) but I just really really don't want to see props if avoidable (maybe you don't see them when flying slower?).
It's this or a Typhoon H...so yeah this would seem about a thousand times more reasonable to start with:P

Unfortunately, this quad does not have the ability to control the gimbals pitch...there is however, a way to crop it out after in editing software or by placing spacers like foam pads to put between the cam and the gimbal to angle the cam downward to minimize the props in the video. Going forward faster will pitch the quad and more props will appear in the view...

Cool. I just snagged one of these for 340SEK so a bit more reasonable than 14k for a Typhoon atm haha.
Those spacers to angle down from the get go and going slower seems to be the way to go for me then. Thanks for the reply and tips:)
wazzobazzo the walkera gimbal has X and Young adjustments to angle down if you're OK with having camera angled down about 10°.

I tried it and it will work but there are problems with the connection wire interfering with the free movement of the gimbal so not such a good idea....

one more thing, the camera is too light for the gimbal and I believe it needed 3 quarters to balance it.
I have not read ALL the 368 'comments' but, Have you mod the tx? the rx?And it doesn't exist a passive/not powered gimbal?Something that only work with the force of gravity?And, do you know if the new one (which is the one with barometric, etc.) has this same power motors, so that they cannot burn?And, sorry, do you open the bases under the motors to get them fresher?THANK YOU!

No, I have not done any mods to the tx or rx.
This gimbal is capable of controlling the tilt but the quad is not capable of it.
I do not know if the new x8 with the barometric hold will have the same motors but I'm pretty sure it will and it will burn...
And finally, no... I have not opened the motor base covers to make them fresher but that is a good idea :)

Yes, the phantom 3 is my next next, for now I'm searching for a next, that we'll be between my present (Syma x5c-1) and the phantom 3.
After looking at the quadcopter101 video I put the cx20 out, not that I remember why now.
What I search is a quad on 250€ with altitude hold, return to home, a camera, or the motors with enough power to lift an action cam, under 300gr., with protectors on the propellers (?), and maybe with fpv.
But maybe I'm calling the moon here, and this not even exist, today.
