Oh man, this brings back memories of my dad and I playing this years ago on the Turbo Grafx 16. I am going to have to get it and add it to my collection. Surprise dad next time he stops by. Thanks for another awesome review Chris, and for the memories.
Interesting, never seen this one. Looks like a fun mix between Heiankyo Alien and Bomberman with some additions of its own! Would love to give this one a try. A shame that there is no multiplayer though. Playing this co-op would be so much fun, or even a battle mode! Great review as always :)
Hey, I really dig your channel. I have loved my Turbo since it first came out. While most U.S. releases were average to below. The really good games that came out only on that system were grand. Splatter house, Ninja Spirits, Blazing Lazers, Galaga 90, Legendary Axe, R-Type just to name a few. Keep on, keeping on.
Amazing Mystery Men quote. Not that many people appreciate that amazing movie. :D I love/hate these wonderful reviews. I love seeing all these amazing games I need to pick up for my TG16 and I hate not having them already!
Excellent review. This one looks like a good bit of fun considering the kind of game it is. However, with the Bomberman-esque elements thrown into the mix, it makes you wonder why they didn't include a multiplayer mode?
Spida You should seriously be on TV hosting some show. A videogame show would be awesome. You are the man with a golden voice :) Cratermaze looks great I have 3 copies and have never picked it up to play it. To many backlogged games for me :(
not only that, it was originally an arcade game called "kids hore hore desasacun" which itself is a remake of a japanese computer game called Haiankyo alien.
@c0ldb33r Not really, just adds more enemies and increases the speed. I didn't play through many of those (after 120 stages, got a bit tired...ha ha!) Thanks for watching!
It's cool how this is a great variation on the Bomberman style of game. I hadn't heard of it, so I'll be giving it a go, as it looks like a really fun game. Thanks for another excellent review.
Ha ha! Doraemon!! This plays really nice on the handheld PC Engine GT / Turbo Express due to the simplicity of the play area. Thanks for doing a great review Chris, many people may have missed this game otherwise.
This game was actually based on a Japanese arcade game. The pc-engine version used the Doraemon characters, but the us version modified the characters to look more like the arcade version’s characters, but still look somewhat similar to the Doraemon characters.
Wow, you are right, this is so weird. But pc-engine version added many doraemon related stuff, like story, bosses (gigazombie and tsuchidama) and doraemon's secret items.
@Destruktive Ha ha. I can easily point you in the direction of people who "hate this game more than life itself" if ya' like. Ha ha! It's definitely not everyone's cup-of-tea :) Thanks for watching!
Lol, you shovel well, you shovel very well. Great reference man. I didn't know that this was the US version of Doraemon. I kinda overlooked it. Definitely a Bomberman engine game. I am a huge fan of Bomberman '94... pretty much my favorite PC Engine card I own next to SF2 CE.
The actual title of the game was "Kid no Hore Hore Daisakusen". It was released originally as an arcade game by Nichibutsu in 1987. It predates the Doraemon version released for the PC Engine and the music and gameplay of the US "Cratermaze" is a decent port of the original arcade, so Cratermaze wasn't a total new creation for the US version. "Booby Kids" was what the game was called in an Italian hack of the rom I think. /watch?v=ZAtYK-nfb0Q
Sweet, I actually have this game on my Wii. It's pretty fun like you mentioned. :D I'm a little surprised though that it's another one of those Japanese games changed for the US game, especially as a game originally a Doraemon game. 'A' try saying that 5 times. xP
@Psycausis A lot of people don't care for the game. It's all good. It's not perfect, but simple...and I like it. But, yeah...if you get a chance to try the "hard" mode, you might like it a tiny bit better. :) Thanks for watching, as always!!! :)
@brunoafh123 He did do Blazing Lasers/Gunhead. I agree, after seeing that review it made me realize there are a lot of Hudson Shooters ready to be reviewed. I am sure he is trying go with variety and spread the genres out a bit. I personally like Final Soldier the most, but I want to like Super Star Soldier more if it didn't have the multiple boss fights at the end. I just haven't had the patience to beat it yet. Soooo many games I need to finish.
I got this with my original tg16 when I bought it at a pawn shop. The guy sold me the system a controller and 5 games for 150. I got Keith Courage, Bonk1, China worrior cybercore, and cratermaze. I had only heard of keith courage, bonk and cybercore at the time because I played them on a friend's tg16. So I got china worrior cause it was obviously a beat em up... I thought, and cratermaze was sort of a toss up from the last few games he was letting me pick from. I don't even remember what the other ones were anymore. I'm sure they were probably sports or racing games which I had no interest in at the time. I thought it was going to be pretty generic and stupid. Which it was. Yet.... there was something catchy about the music... and something comical about the graphics, and the game play got addictive. I remember when I didn't feel like a bunch of fast paced action in a shooter or action side scroller, I would play this game. Mostly because I loved the music. But then I fell in love with the tg16 because of the music a lot of it's games had. And it's particular style of graphics too. This game though is one of the first ones I owned and it ended up being one of those games you play to relax and just become a couch zombie for a little bit. And OHHH yeah it was sooo satisfying to have a full strip of shovel holes and trapping 3 or 4 baddies all at once. But I had no idea the difficult mode was so much different. Or that it used the booster memory which I got later on from tzd before i upgraded to the duo. I always just played this as a leisurely relax game so I just started it and always played on normal. I never thought to really fully explore it. I guess that's because it's one of those game I played when I didn't want a hard game, and I wanted a fun easy game to relax with. Now I have to go back and honestly finish it on difficult, just to see what I didn't see before. Thanks for telling me. I assumed difficult would just be more enemies and a basically slightly more frustrating version of normal. But whole levels I never saw probably bossed too. That IS like a whole second half to the game I never even experienced. There weren't any reviews on this game when I was playing it in the 90's. No one ever told me there was actually hidden content. This is the last game I would be looking for hidden content in. I searched Dungeon Explorer pixel by pixel looking for some easter egg no one knew about. And someone tells me about an easter egg I never knew about in literally one of the first 5 tg16 games I owned that I played for decaded. Not years decades. Now how dumb do I feel for never playing on difficult.
Another great review, Chris! Glad to see you doing well! (Also: I think this may be a compliment. My sweetie thinks you sound like Penn Jillette.. In a good way :D
@SNKNostalgia A lot of people don't consider Blazing Lazers part of the same series. But, I always felt like it was. You know? Ha ha. Now...if I can JUST beat that final boss in Super Star Soldier!!!!!!
Looks fun and addicting! I might download it on the Wii's virtual console one of these days! That's, how you say, an "A-Mazing" review! By the way, are you running out of Turbo Graphix games by any chance? Just curious!
I knew that boss thing looked familiar. Google "Japanese dogu statue" :) Images of those statues sometimes pop up if you're looking up anything about the ancient astronauts theory. Thanks for the video, looks definitely to be inspired by Bomberman
You are right, you also can see it in megadrive game - atomic runner chelnov, but this figurine also famous enemy of doraemon and you can see it in many doraemon games.
hahaha. Hilarious review. :) I have honestly never even gave this game a second glance. That's what I love about your reviews - you put a light on games that I just assumed I wouldn't be interested in. But yeah, stick to your own material. The Turbografx writers were about as sloppy as the people doing the box artwork. lol :) Great review, as always! :D
I think this game seems like Bomberman on steroids with a lot more stuff to do in it than just blow the crud out of any enemies and walls you come across. I wonder if anyone has finshed this game.
I Played The Japanese Doraemon Version On An Emulator, And Like The Theasure Chests, Are They Bowls Of Pudding Or Dirt That I Was Picking Up When The Key Appears? I Dunno, I Have No Idea.
Oh man, this brings back memories of my dad and I playing this years ago on the Turbo Grafx 16. I am going to have to get it and add it to my collection. Surprise dad next time he stops by. Thanks for another awesome review Chris, and for the memories.
@JerryTerrifying Thanks for watching! And I'm so glad you caught the reference! :)
I was waiting for the Mystery Men reference and you did not disappoint.
@zsciaeount Wohoo! I'm glad to hear that. Thanks for watching!
Interesting, never seen this one. Looks like a fun mix between Heiankyo Alien and Bomberman with some additions of its own! Would love to give this one a try. A shame that there is no multiplayer though. Playing this co-op would be so much fun, or even a battle mode!
Great review as always :)
Once again, another gem I never considered before. Now on my list for a Virtual Console download! Thanks!
@WindyPCE I would love that job! Ha ha. Can you call some important casting people for me? Ha ha. :)
Thanks for watching!
@DvdXploitr Thanks for watching! Galaga '90....great game!!
God bless the Duo for simple, yet effective games like this. I started playing this game yesterday and it's very charming, yes!
Another great review! Your channel is quickly becoming my favorite place for a nostalgia fix. Keep up the great work!
Glad to see this series back in full swing and you in good health. Can't wait for the Volume 2 DVDs to see the extras and the commentaries!

@starwind3438 Yeah, it totally does! Almost Bomberman in "reverse." ha ha
Thanks for watching!
Amazing Mystery Men quote. Not that many people appreciate that amazing movie. :D

I will fork give you
Excellent review. This one looks like a good bit of fun considering the kind of game it is. However, with the Bomberman-esque elements thrown into the mix, it makes you wonder why they didn't include a multiplayer mode?
Has a bombermanish feel.
@BarbieOnWeed Mmm! Food! :)
Thanks for watching!
Great game! So many games on TurboGrafx I missed out on that Turbo Views helped me out on! My favorite still being Galaga 90 though :)
@rngpro A lot of people hate it so....ya' never know. Ha ha. Thanks for watching!
@metalcoola Some people like it.... :) :) :) :) :)
Thanks for watching!
@eliseo690 Oh, very cool! Thanks for watching!
Spida You should seriously be on TV hosting some show. A videogame show would be awesome. You are the man with a golden voice :) Cratermaze looks great I have 3 copies and have never picked it up to play it. To many backlogged games for me :(
This seems to have come out on the NES under the title of
"Booby Kids"
I am NOT making that up !
not only that, it was originally an arcade game called "kids hore hore desasacun" which itself is a remake of a japanese computer game called Haiankyo alien.
@@rolingthunder8612 I didnt expect a response after 7 years xD
@c0ldb33r Not really, just adds more enemies and increases the speed. I didn't play through many of those (after 120 stages, got a bit tired...ha ha!) Thanks for watching!

At 1:42 - Dude. A "Mystery Men" reference? That's so esoteric. :)
@snowcon3 Thanks for watching my friend!
Definitely going to have to pick this up now and take it with me on the go with my Turbo Express.... thanks Chris for this review....
Thumbs up for the Mystery Men reference. (:
Oh, another version of this game was made for the NES under the title "Booby Kids", I believe. As in, "Booby Trap".
This game was actually based on a Japanese arcade game. The pc-engine version used the Doraemon characters, but the us version modified the characters to look more like the arcade version’s characters, but still look somewhat similar to the Doraemon characters.

Yeah, I remembered that 'joke' from the manual too. Great review dude!
@Machohervey Thanks for watching!
@JBHutto Yes it was. I'm surprised anyone caught it, let alone a few. Ha ha. Always loved that one! :)
Awesome review as always, and will have to check this one out on the Wii VC, when i get some extra cash to spend on it.

@gentleuterus Thanks my friend. I feel better than I have in years! :)
@BlazeHedgehog Cool! Have to check that out!
Another good review, Chris! Never heard of this game till now. I may check it out.
@Phenylalanin1979 Thanks for watching!
Cool, like an update on the "Super Alien" concept.
Okay, this one comes just about right to make me dig (Ha! *Dig*!) thru my batch of yet unplayed PCE games and go for Doraemon!
You did it again, C.!
Sweet, I actually have this game on my Wii. It's pretty fun like you mentioned. :D
I'm a little surprised though that it's another one of those Japanese games changed for the US game, especially as a game originally a Doraemon game. 'A'
try saying that 5 times. xP
Excellent review. Keep up the good work, Chris! I'm so happy you're feeling better!
@zwallop Ha ha. I was impressed at how many people caught that. :)
Awesome.
@hobocamptheater LOL! I wrote "Joe Pesci in Home Alone noise." Ha ha!!
@SplatterTrigger Yes, totally! Almost like....Bomberman in "reverse" :)
@kingstonlj Thanks for watching!
This game is def one that keeps its replay value through out time! great review man!
@AlirazaVideoGames Thanks for watching!
@ModtroGamer Yes, totally! Almost like...Bomberman in "reverse." Ha ha.
Good to see your feeling better and making videos.
@rhodesy71 Thanks for watching!!
@Gindelbi Good point! :)
@Psycausis A lot of people don't care for the game. It's all good. It's not perfect, but simple...and I like it. But, yeah...if you get a chance to try the "hard" mode, you might like it a tiny bit better. :)

@hiryunoken7 Thanks for watching!
Great review as usual! Thanks to you I have to spend a lot of money on some awesome Turbografx games :-).
@Gamer3059 Oh, totally! Love that game! :)
@RappingNinja Ha ha. I can't believe how many people caught it! :)
I demand that you boost it half a turbo chip! DO IT! It is a classic!!! >_>;;; Anywho... Good review!
I think I prefer the look of this to Bomberman. Its a lot more creative with the weapons.
Man it also reminds me of Bomberman and there's nothing wrong with that!
@blinkstock182 I feel better than I have in years! Thanks for asking my friend!
@xUnbreakable89x Feeling fantastic! Thanks my friend!
Yay! Another video :) Game looks very fun

Great review reminds me of the bomberman game i have on super nintendo.
Difficult mode actually normal mode in Japanese version. And normal - easy.
Strange, why they changed it.
@LarryBundyJr Totally. Like...Bomberman in reverse!
Great vid.
Does expert mode add anything else new?

Love this game might have to break it out after a few sessions of Blazing Lazers.
@SPac316 Cool! :)
This game always seemed boring to me but the soundtrack is pretty cool. Good review Chris.
I knew that boss thing looked familiar. Google "Japanese dogu statue" :) Images of those statues sometimes pop up if you're looking up anything about the ancient astronauts theory.

You are right, you also can see it in megadrive game - atomic runner chelnov, but this figurine also famous enemy of doraemon and you can see it in many doraemon games.
@SNKNostalgia all the cool and goofy gadgets make it work very well as a Doraemon game!
@spida1a That just happened to be my favorite quote from that movie. William H Macey killed the role.
hahaha. Hilarious review. :)
I have honestly never even gave this game a second glance. That's what I love about your reviews - you put a light on games that I just assumed I wouldn't be interested in.

The gameplay reminds me of Batman on PC Engine
I think this game seems like Bomberman on steroids with a lot more stuff to do in it than just blow the crud out of any enemies and walls you come across.
I wonder if anyone has finshed this game.
@xMyKewlx First "reply"! :)
I Played The Japanese Doraemon Version On An Emulator, And Like The Theasure Chests, Are They Bowls Of Pudding Or Dirt That I Was Picking Up When The Key Appears? I Dunno, I Have No Idea.
@bcheck123 Whew, that's good. Ha ha! :)
@pookieizzy7 Oh cool.
whats your intro song from?
Love the Mystery Men reference! Awesome movie.
LOL! It was bound to happen eh? Ha ha. :)
I have japanese Doraemon version.
This is great game.
another great vid m8
@sygo7g You misunderstood me, I said the music was actually better in the Japanese version. I don't find the USA music as catchy.
@brunoafh123 They are coming. Patience, patience! :) :) We aren't even 1/2 way through yet. ha ha. :)
And I'm second :) Good review as usual. Amazing in fact!
