This shows a clear picture how production costs affect game design . Since producing a game on a cart was more cheaper , compared to a CD version , that has to have CD-Audio sound mastering ... not to mention production costs of CD back then where expensive ...
I absolutely LOVE this game, I have played the original but I honestly prefer this one...I dunno, maybe it's the awesome rockin' soundtrack but I enjoyed it a hell of a lot. I still respect everyone's right to an opinion though =) Great review as always. Dan.
Definitely. I was SO excited when I was in high school for this one to come out. When I plowed through it so quickly and was "underwhelmed"......it just really disappointed me. :(
ACK! The voiceover panned hard left at 1:23 and scared the bejeezes out of me since my speakers are rather large and rather right in my face... who knew a game review could be so startling, ha.
Ha ha! Oh, that is good. I thought you meant that it blew out your speaker or something (and I started to feel super bad! Ha ha! Almost like "You'd think someone would have told me about this problem 3 and a half years ago when I posted it, ha ha!). Thanks for watching! :)
I agree about this game being extremely disappointing as a follow up to Air Zonk. The original is probably still one of my favorite shooters ever, and when I heard there was a sequel, I couldn't hop on it fast enough. Unfortunately, like you said, the lack of powerups really killed the game for me. I also didn't like the way they changed the buddy system, and they lacked the personality of the original buddies. Such a disappointing way for what started off as an awesome series to end.
Great review, you absolutely nailed all the reasons why the game is so disappointing compared to the Hucard original. It's like Hudson handed the game to a team of their junior programmers. Oh and the Twin Dragon head Zonk is almost impossible to get, only got it once many years ago.
@spida1a HAHA!! I forgot to tell you that your video was great! Oh, by the way, I heard that they're working on a remake or something of that movie Total Recall! If there's no Arnold however, then there should be no recall!
@HowlingMoonCinemas Ha ha! Until I started having a tiny bit of success on TH-cam...I NEVER have been told that before. Now I hear that a lot. Hell, I would LOVE to be that guy and remembered for all time. Love that movie. Ha ha! :) Thanks for watching!
I picked up this game and Raxyanber III for reasonable prices. Can't wait to fire up my Turbo duo (which has been sitting idle since i beat all my games). :P
Well, that's disappointing. I really enjoyed the first Air Zonk on Wii's VC, but I guess I'll save the money on this one. It really seems to lack the fast pace of the first game. Music still sounds awesome though. Great review, spida1a.
Yeah....I mean, if you LOVED AIr Zonk (like I did!!), I would say it's worth a quick play-through. You know? But, it's only average to me overall.......disappointing to say the least. :) Thanks for watching!
Since During The End Of The Turbo's Life Cycle, Super Air Zonk Rockabilly Paradise Is Completely RARE And HARD To Find. Is This Because The Sega Genesis Beating The TurboDuo? Or Was It The Sega CD? Or Both? But Thank Goodness It's On The Wii Virtual Console Service.
Let's say that Air Zonk was never created and you reviewed this game again, do you think anything would change in your review?? Do you think your 3 super cd rating would change or the way you felt about this game because you were expecting Super Air Zonk to be much better and it was kind of a let down when compared to the first one??
use of parallax backgrounds on PC Engine typically allows less foreground sprite objects, or makes them flicker. it is surprising how some games manage to do plenty of both.
That's a real shame, I figured it would be so much better on CD. I hate it when I look forward to the next incarnation of a game and it is a total stinker.
Not really the volume, just me leaned forward with a 3-foot speaker on either side and then suddenly the voice is coming from only the left speaker for about 6 seconds... just unexpected and I was kinda spaced out over the rather boring-looking game (the first one's def better), so it made me jump a little, haha.
Kind of a shame that this game didn't meet your expectations. I always hate it when a sequel on more powerful media like CD is somehow inferior. That's just lazy on the developer's part. At least it functions.

Great job reviewing these Turbo games - not alot of content out there for us Turbo fans - you do a good job thanks!

@Polywanacraka Yes totally! Thanks for watching and commenting! :)
Cool, thanks a lot for watching!!
Yeah........I hear ya'. Thanks for watching!
@2014DDay Yes, it is. Zonk was futuristic cousin of "Bonk". :)
Ha ha! Oh, that is good. I thought you meant that it blew out your speaker or something (and I started to feel super bad! Ha ha! Almost like "You'd think someone would have told me about this problem 3 and a half years ago when I posted it, ha ha!). Thanks for watching! :)
@DansGameCorner Very cool Dan. Thanks for watching!
@HowlingMoonCinemas Yes, I totally agree. Leave the theme alone...the original is still awesome! You know ? Thanks for watching!
This game hurt my heart. It's more like a demo then a game. What doesn't hurt my heart are these turbo views. Thanks!
@PeterCSM730 Thanks so much my friend. I truly appreciate it. More coming....at some point. Ha ha. )
@WTFWereTheyThinking Ha ha. M'kay! :Well...thanks for watching. :)

Definitely, I'm a big Turbografx-16 fan too!
Indeed I can. Though the volume on mine isn't any different than the rest of the video. So, I'm not sure why it surprised you that much. :)
Thanks for watching!!!

Thanks. These are fun to do. :)
He has the perfect video game review voice

Chris, I actually enjoyed this game a lot. Maybe, my expectations were not high, But i liked it. I will rate it 4 stars.
yeah you know i was quite underwhelmed myself man, uh im so happy you reviewed this game, new subsccriber, friend, thats for sure :-)
The word of the day is "outsourcing".
Stereo surround my friend! Kind of. Lol :)

Great review, spida1a.
I like it I think it looks cool!! I think I'll try my hand at them both!! Cool post, in my opinion!!
Yeah....I mean, if you LOVED AIr Zonk (like I did!!), I would say it's worth a quick play-through. You know? But, it's only average to me overall.......disappointing to say the least. :)
Thanks for watching!
This game goes for quite a hefty amount $. A couple of days ago it sold for $210!
@jayson4404 I hear ya'! I don't get it either. :(
Seems like we have similar tastes and opinions. Brother? :)
@123doomdoom Really? Wow. Well, I still respect you.
Ha ha! Just playin. :)
Aww, shucks! :)
another freakin fantastic review! :)

RIP Wii Shop Channel. i guess the only way to really play it is if you emulate it.
I don't know......the game just disappointed me a tad. I'd say it's.....average. :(
Thanks for watching!

I Wanted To Play The 1st Air Zonk So Bad But I Don't Have Any Wii Points.
That's a real shame, I figured it would be so much better on CD. I hate it when I look forward to the next incarnation of a game and it is a total stinker.
Mmmhmm, I see what you did there... you can call it whatever you like ;)
Not really the volume, just me leaned forward with a 3-foot speaker on either side and then suddenly the voice is coming from only the left speaker for about 6 seconds... just unexpected and I was kinda spaced out over the rather boring-looking game (the first one's def better), so it made me jump a little, haha.

Why the fuck did the CARD version have 100,000 background scrolls and the CD version has none?
I like the new bomb attack but yeah, it was a pretty lame sequel. Oh well, at least the game is rare, eh?
this was a big let down being a CD game.... the first chip game was much better....
