    Much appreciated brother! I did the same thing to my ‘07 F250 and the hazy paint now looks like a mirror. I was terrified of wet sanding my baby, but I am so glad I followed this video!!!

    Thanks for the video. Want to surprise my son when he gets back from deployment by bringing back the paint job on his oldie but goodie 97 Camry and get the windows tinted for him. Mechanically the car runs like a clock, just the paint job totally is oxidized which is no bueno!

    Would rather use a clay bar or clay block on the whole car instead of sandpaper and grind away at the clear coat or paint causing a bigger job to refine..Then use a scratch remover which doubles as your polisher if there are imperfections the sealant cant handle, then a sealant to give it a finish and finally a good wax coat to protect your hard work..Just my experience..Research before touching your vehicle surface..
    PS: If your vehicle has a thin clear coat or no clear coat using a sand paper is a bad idea unless your repainting your vehicle..

    You should note that this process removed the clear coat of the paint. All cars have a layer or layers of paint and then a clear coat finish process that protects the paint. The paint on you car will need to be frequently clayed, polished and waxed now that the clear coat is gone. You should put up a video on how to apply a clear coat because that is the only lasting way to keep the paint healthy.

    • @cmacia06
      @cmacia06  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Brett Vogel I have a set of videos on applying a clear that I am not sure if I should publish. I don't feel like i made them "professional" enough and it's pricey to redo the video.

  • @jacquespoirier9071
    @jacquespoirier9071 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    the result is fine BUT... on an faded paint, the surface is porous and the fine finish obtained doesn't last. this paint needs a constant waxing attention to stay glossy
    that's not the fault of the process but from the components of the paint that are altered by the UV and road salts.

  • @KG-gf2jo

    Good video. 1 important step was skipped though. After sanding & compounding you have to polish with a foam pad & polish otherwise the paint will have swirl marks everywhere.

  • @TheDim3s
    @TheDim3s 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    the thing with rotary is that its basicly a MUST to use a DA and compound/polish it, depends how bad the rotary induced swirls/haze is also known as "love marks".
    only a handful of people in america can pull off a rotary polishing without any swirls/halos, and especially on newer cars (1990+) where there is thinner layer of paint and then clear coat, if you burn that out (which happens fast with rotary) well, we all know what happens next.
    the wax you applied after rotary hid the love marks, which would occur the next time you wash it with something that removes wax, or simply the wax deteriorates over time.

    • @whosDori
      @whosDori 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      you can always apply a new clear coat on top after sanding

    • @cmacia06
      @cmacia06  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +TheDim3s Great detailed comment. Your absolutely correct. Believe it or not, the car in the video actually did come out perfect. No marks. When I was starting to polish, a way to remove the "love marks" was to use a scratch remover or swirl remover. It's more of a crutch though and I wouldn't want to be using it on every car. It's a little pricey for a small bottle. In the end, I've come to the conclusion that if you live a desert like El Paso and you keep your vehicle outside, it best to get the top coat redone if the clear coat hasn't failed yet. I did that to a car I have and it's outlasted the polished car by a long shot. Thanks for the comment, and thanks for watching!

    If you leave your car unprotected and out in the elements, the paint will most likely oxidize. The first level of oxidation will happen and you will not notice it over a period of a month or more. Light oxidation can be treated through regular paint cleaning and polishing. Waxing your car after each cleaning will also help protect your car’s paint.
    The second level of oxidation is moderate oxidation. Just like light oxidation, it can be repaired using a cutting polish. The hardest oxidation to deal with is heavy oxidation. This may happen after a year of your car being unprotected. This can be described by a dull, chalky surface on your car’s paint. It may even be difficult to restore but there are products you can always try before getting a paint job done.

    great video Christian Macias! Thanks tons for making it! I need some response from you'all out here to this question, "Is this a problem w/ HONDA cars?" I have a Honda Fit and I have oxidation on the hood of my Fit, sooo ugly, I had NEVER seen this on my Toyota's, which were also parked outside in the sun here in Dallas, TX. My Dad told me I should call Honda, but my car is out of warranty now. What do you'all think. I do love my Fit though, but this oxidation thing is giving me Fits! LOL! pun intended. Also my headlights are all oxidized. I just fixed those w/ Meguiars Ultimate Compound since it was not heavily oxidized yet & that seemed to work.

    Good video. While buffing, you should have the wire resting on your shoulder.

    I really love detailing cars- and I've had experience detailing my lights with wet/dry sandpaper, but I don't know how in god's name you managed to restore it without using a finer grade sandpaper. I tried 2000 grit and it induced marring. Guess it's back to ChrisFix for me. I'll have to try 3000/5000 to fix the marring.

      +Rotten Girl hi, i didn't let the buffer sit and kept the speed fairly slow. That's how I avoid marring. When i started polishing I used a compound to remove marring. I'll post it in the description. The compound was specifically rated for sand paper at that grit. Also the less sanding I was able to do, the better. I didn't want people to watch this video and over sand their car, leading to clear coat failure. Thanks for watching! I always appreciate good feedback.

    I got a 96 GMC Sierra with a sun faded hood not sure if this would work. It's got some spots where the paint peeled off but not too bad

      +Ryan Dibble if the paint has started peeling, then it probably will not do it much justice.

    What if I used 1500 grit sandpaper and then say 3000 grit sandpaper? Would that suffice instead of needing a buffer?
