This is exactly the kind of youtube guide you're after... not a half hour of nonsense, just a few minutes telling you exactly what you need to do to save yourself 300 quid. Cheers for putting this up.
Really good idea this. Especially as a little nailpolish size, colourmatched bottle of paint is only around 10 bucks aswell. So 20 or 25 bucks all in, you can keep up with any little imperfections or scratched for years. Awesome.
Bloody brilliant! Did my Dad's old Range Rover where someone had keyed it, along with various minor scrapes. Used some touch up paint from Halfords, and now repair looks practically invisible. Thanks for sharing your technique!
I tried this technique on my 1995 Ford Mustang. It's metallic red and had a large number of minor scratches on the passenger door. I used Testors model paint and the results were very good. Of course it didn't remove the scratches, but I would say it looks 95% better. And the paint only cost $3.25.
You're a genius! I've watched 3 of your videos so far and will combine your methods on my car, which I've been wanting to fix the scratches and chips on for years, but all of the videos I've watched have been too complicated for my skill set. I knew there had to be an easier way. THANK YOU!
Nice one, Fella. I think the way you present your videos gives us numpties the courage to have a go ourselves. I'm a complete Neanderthal with a spray can but even my proto-brain can manage finger painting! Thanks for putting this out there 👍
Have to admit was hesitant applying finger paint (code matched) to the 5 year old Amarok I just bought. Worked like a charm on the scratched tail gate. Fantastic video.
I've done exactly this for many years with about the same 90 % results. I've just retired a GMC van after 22 Canadian winters and I've often had people stop me to ask if I've had the vehicle repainted. Fill the ditch with paint and buff off the thin excess on the flat surfaces.
Great video and great idea, better than what I have been doing for years. For the punters out there: the buffing *might* remove some of the new paint out of the scratches, hence the need to go back again as in the video. With some care and patience though it's obvious you can acheive a fantastic result relatively easily. Thank you for the video!! You're right, we love it :)

I've got a fairly bad scuff in the middle of a panel and was about to pay over £500 to have the whole panel repainted. To be honest, I'm a bit worried about the matching to adjacent panels. Having seen this, I think it's worth having a go first. If the scratch is too bad and it doesn't work, I won't be worse off. Thanks for the tip!

You just answered questions I didn't even know I had AND saved me a bunch of money on a new (used) car purchase... THANKS!!!!
Just a word of warning. This works perfectly on convex surfaces. On concave surfaces be very much more careful of the pressuer you apply because the outer rim of the polishing pad is in contact with the surfaces and can easily wear through the paint leaving a much bigger repair to do. Ask me how I know 😂
❤ Great method thank you very much. I tried it with meguiar's ultimate compound and a drill. The deep scratches don't go away with this compound. But combined with the touchup pain, it does fill them up nicely so you can't see them from a distance. Much better than the white scratches on my dark metallic paint I had before.
Your video popped up as recommended viewing so I gave it a go and was pleased with and pleasantly surprised at your results! I will do this on my 2005 Nissan Murano. It has a few areas with pesky scratches on it that I couldn't buff out. Many thanks from across the pond in the states! 🇺🇸👍🏼
Having just spent the past couple of weeks learning on the go how to fill & paint deep scratches on a friend’s car, I’m pretty blown away by this. Their car is a silver metallic Hyundai & so has loads of holographic glitter bits in the paint, so after filling the deepest scratches with putty (down to plastic on the bumper - use a putty that you mix up a bit at a time or your whole tin will harden while you’re still filling in the first few scratches 😫), I’ve been using a bit of torn up sponge to dab the custom-mixed acrylic paint with hardener on. It’s a great way to get the sparkly bits to stick. It’s a bit darker than the original though as the original paint has faded a bit, so trying to hide it totally is really hard, so this wiping method might work better. (Only cost $28 Aus for the paint). Will definitely try this for the shallow scratches. One issue though is that apparently you can’t expect the paint to stick for long over wax - you have to clean & wet sand with a fine sandpaper a bit (I’ve been using 1200 grit) or use a wax & grease remover to allow the paint to grab between coats. So better to clean/sand, wipe on paint, allow to dry, wet sand until smooth, reapply as needed, then do a gloss topcoat (another $20 ish plus make sure you mask off the rest of the car & windows!) & wax or just wax if you’re not too fussy about longevity. Without the UV gloss topcoat, the paint you added will darken over time. But this method will definitely pretty up the area & is an easy top-up for not much money so depends on what results you want. Roll on the self-fixing paint is all I can say!
I am so glad this was not a long video because I became so invested in watching it I forgot that I had put my dinner in the oven, the timing was perfect, also a great video, definitely going to try this, thanks
I'll try it, I have piano black mercedes benz and it has some minor scratches and obviously I did not want to get it repainted with bad results...but now I will try your trick and I'm sure that everything will come out right. I'm used to car restorations and I never heard of your method, THANKS MATE😊
This does work but it works much better if you thoroughly clean the area with a suitable solvent before you apply the paint. That way you remove all the polish and cleaning products that might be embedded in the scratches.
Quick and easy fix. You could improve it even more with bit of wet sanding to level out, but this is great for a quick fix and would satisfy 90% of car owners
Excellent video, actually learnt this trick many years ago, in an American body shop, in Ft Lauderdale, when my holiday rental car got scratched, by cat's jumping on bonnet, didn't get noticed on check in, so no deposit retained. Done it on my own vehicles since, the only colour i didn't get great results using this technique was silver, I'll add once finished i then polish with one of those colour match polishes
That is pretty awesome. Didn't expect it to be honest. Personally, if I try it, I think I'll put some clear coat over it. It'll last longer like this IMO.
Strange enough i was thinking of trying something like this tonight, so good to have it confirmed that it actually works, wondering now about paint chips on the bonnet
Excellent video! I've followed your advice and have tackled over a dozen scratches now, like you said it's never going to be 100% but if it can make it 80-90% better by diy at home then that's a big win. Keep up the good work buddy!

@@cvrpov Hey Mister. Michael and Bob want to know "how long did you leave the paint on before buffing". Would you like to give an answer? It's been like 2 weeks now.

Dude...overkill. For the past 20 yrs I have removed ALL fingernail scratches from door handle areas with the least abrasive paste in the polish line up: CAR CLEANER WAX in my case I prefer Maguire's, it works so well, it doesn't even require a machine, you can do it by hand, quick and least invasive.
100% wouldn't of removed all of these. Maybe some, but not to the level this would. Trust me... been doing this 18years myself. Waxes most often just temporarily fill damage.
No, the car cleaner wax lasts for a few days and then washes out. (Getting fresh paint into the scratches is a brilliant answer!) well done and nice job!
DUDE...These marks are deeper than surface scuffs left from finger nails. I'm a fan of Maguire's cleaner wax too but it's not going to do squat against the deeper scratches in this video.
Who's been opening them doors a wendigo. Jokes aside what a great learning video I've learnt alot and definitely gonna try this I've already ordered paint

This is why I open and close for passengers.
Honestly what planet you from. Some of theses scratches are made by keys. No polish in the world will cute then out DUDE
That's the best trck I have watched today....
You're awesom pal, I'll try it for sure.
