  • Yes, you can actually do this in the SNES collection, but the only problem is that it doesn't bring you to the Minus world, it just brings you to World 4 (like it usually would)

      Behind the code explained that you can set the warps to go to the minus. However, the game also check to make sure your going to a valid world. If not, it will warp to world 1-1. But if you remove that check and go to the minus world, well the game crashes. But there are other glitch worlds you can go to that were shown in the video

    It makes sense why it wasn't in All-Stars. At the time it was released, emulation didn't exist (the first one was N64 on PC) so they're ports, rescripted to work on the SNES.

      All stars is mostly just original code, with the added things like those funny toads in castles, and Mario giving the V sign after the flagpole. You can tell this because all of the glitches from the NES still work in all stars (wall jump, fire Mario glide etc.) All except minus world, because it was patched, because people knew about it and Nintendo doesn't like when people do things like that for some reason.

      @ClassicTVMan1981X 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They also removed it in All Night Nippon Super Mario Bros. for the Famicom Disk System. Instead, in that case, when you perform the trick the three warp pipes (before the code proper is executed) will send you back up to the goal like with the pipe before it. What they did was remove the INC WarpZoneControl instruction.

    I assume this is caused as the way pipes are handled differently in that engine preventing it from reading arbitrary memory from outside the intended area
    I don't know how the data is stored in SNES roms or how it's organized in this particular cartridge but since it has multiple games in it I wonder what the result would be if it managed to read data from the other games if it were possible

    • @phillinup
      @phillinup  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Most definitely that, and I doubt they wanted to go out of their way to make a recreation of something that they didn't even really intend on having in the game in the first place.
      Also, that'd be an interesting concept. I couldn't be able to do it, but maybe a professional at that type of stuff could? It'd be cool to see what would happen

    • @davinchristino
      @davinchristino ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm pretty sure the glitch in 8-4 where going past a pipe, coming back to it and entering it sends you to the wrong destination wasn't patched in all-stars, so I am doubtful about this theory.

    • @jackys_handle
      @jackys_handle ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes the SNES can look into unintended parts of memory. It's simply that the way regular pipes and warp pipes are handled is different.
      I don't know the precise details, but, in a nutshell, regular pipes use the screen's x position in a level to determine what memory adresses to load into the level data ram adress, which are fancy programming words for where to send mario to. Warp pipes are stranger, tho.
      In all stars, they're programmed as you'd expect: the destinations of the individual pipes are always loaded before you can get to them, and will send you to the correct area.
      However, in the original super mario bros, the correct destinations are only loaded alongside the "welcome to warpzone" text. Weirder still, the end level warpzones in 1-2 and 4-2 both default to the end level 4-2 warpzone when not loaded, which sort of explains why you go to world 5-1 when going in the middle pipe, and go to world [nothing]-1 when going down the side pipes, as there are no side pipes in the end level 4-2 warpzone. It's probably more complicated than that, tho anything beyond this point is beyond my level of understanding
      But it doesn't end there
      For some absurd reason, the vine exit warpzone in 4-2 doesn't default to anything. So, it just loads whichever exit zone was loaded last. In that case, that would be the vine exit warpzone. So, with enough backwards bumps and careful movement, you can loop the warpzone until the timer runs out.
      Aint that a tangled mess.

    • @jackys_handle
      @jackys_handle ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Tl;dr: they decided not to go with the italian dish approach when programming the warpzones the second time.

    • @jackys_handle
      @jackys_handle ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also, about the ACE (Arbitrary Code Execution) potential on this cartridge. There is probably a way o crash the game in just the right way, given how much content there is. One of the original games even has known ways to trigger ACE, so it's definately something worth investigating.

  • @ZoofyZoof

    I can't even do the minus world glitch because they changed the control input to make it almost impossible to crouch jump left and right. It's so excruciatingly difficult regardless of controller.
    I don't have this issue outside of NSO. I can crouch jump left and right perfectly fine on Mario Maker, and literally any other platform I play SMB1 on
