- Luigi's usefulness is a roller coaster from game to game. Sometimes he's just as good as Mario, and other times he's more helpless than Princess Peach.

Luigi isn't completely worthless in Mario Odyssey, he can make grinding coins really easy and you can buy moons with that.
True, but the tier list is based on how Green Mario is as a _playable character._ In Odyssey, he... isn't.
Luigi is better in almost every game where he has different attributes from Mario, sounds like a skill issue if you think he's a downgrade

I’ve played most Mario games where that’s the case and the only times where I think that’s actually true are in Super Mario 64 DS and maybe 3D World. All Luigi has is a higher jump and no traction

@@JeremymKlinger I think you forgot how in super Mario Wii that once you lose on a level like 20 times the Luigi block will appear and the game auto-clears the level with Luigi.
You grievously underanked Mario Galaxy Luigi. He can actually get past the levels really fast having that higher jump. Luigi in Mario Galaxy is actually pretty insane, he should have been in S too.
Plus- when you rescue him in the first gameline in those galaxies, doesn’t he give you stars?
@@bees__kneecaps Pretty much. This video is for memes I guess, but he straight up overlooked pretty much everything that makes galaxy Luigi really cool.
I basically always play as him and prefer him. I just deal with the sliding, it’s rarely a problem. The jump height breaks most of his unique appearances where it matters for him to have it.
Mario 64 DS, Luigi is the only character who can rescue Wario without glitches.
Cannonically, luigi is the most powerful character in the the mario universe, his true power is just hidden by the developers.

In Dream Team, he would definitely be in Elite tier, but only in the Dream World. In the Real World, Lil' Bro rank, without a doubt.
luigi cannot be a lil bro in those games, the game is full of puzzles where both of the bros are needed. With and without eachother. Heck luigi had a whole adventure saving mario with the poisson mushroom in superstar saga. (Even tho that mario also had to save luigi from a pole where poppy was there). a whole ass "mini" boss with the piranha plant dude. and saving marios ass again in bowsers inside story with those bean looking sock thingies I think. Paper jam may looks like the weakest where he was shown, but he did save both mario and paper variant in the forest with king boo in it. I think that this franchise brings the most of it (dream team is a year of luigi game)

Friendly reminder Luigi is able to become immune to almost all damage in nearly every game, with BiS being a standout. (His HP is higher than Mario's, using the shell item won by playing hide and seek with a child toad he can literally tank the dark star's attacks effortlessly)

just wanted to comment that luigi has an altered design in some versions of mario world and mario bros 3 where he is skinnier than mario, PLUS, there are still all special levels ahead of you when luigi is saved in mario 3d land, meaning he should've been put a little higher on the list
meanwhile all 3 luigi's mansion games have him in elite because hes the only playable character... apart from gooigi in luigi's mansion 3 but is still practically luigi

There's a couple stars in Galaxy 2 that Luigi is a lot better for getting, such as the green star in Stone Cyclone Galaxy where you need a triple jump to reach it. His higher jump requires less precision for it. He can also flat shortcut some levels in Super Mario Bros 2. Take the second stage, where his crouch jump lets him skip the Phanto and key by jumping to the higher ledge.

His high and long jumps are good in Mario 2 tho. And for speed runs he’s useful in certain situations. Only Luigi and toad are used in any%. But yeah I guess he is hard to use.

You can replace mario with luigi, and on origami king, holy shit you tell me we used the help of multiple ppl and boats to cross the sea, and when we get on our destiny, paper luigi is there just chillin, and he got so soon... FUCKING SWIMMING
the series is called paper mario. super paper mario *ONLY* refers to _Super Paper Mario,_ released in 2007 for the Nintendo Wii. this is also unfortunately the only game where Luigi’s presense seems to be more than a joke, but god does it pay off

Fun fact: in 3d land, luigi doesn’t actually play differently to mario at all, his slippery physics were removed. His jump is slightly higher, but only by a miniscule amount.

In Super Paper Mario, Luigi's high jump KO's a certain late-game boss in about 10 seconds. The devs may not have intended it, but still one of his greatest moments.
within the lore (which seems to be loosely included in these) he is EXTREMELY powerful as well, but would probably go into a “making things worse” tier as that power was used for evil (tho not of his own free will)

Super Mario Odyssey is the biggest disappointment in terms of Luigi. Like why isn't he playable? Same thing for Bowser's Fury, like all you had to do is import him from 3D world and then edit a big cat version of him

I know he went into elite for that game anyways, but Luigi is definitely the best character in 64 DS for his moves. Fastest runner and swimmer, highest jump, can run on water, and that spin he does after a backflip is incredibly useful. Only drawback is lacking Mario's wall jump.
The fact that Luigi can just casually leave a planets gravity in Galaxy games by just triple jump makes him all powerful!!!

At this point, Peach has been kidnapped so routinely, Luigi actually doesn’t care anymore and would rather focus on his balloon game while Mario fixes shit.
While I understand the idea that in most games his trademark unique abilities can be give & take with the slipperyness being a main issue for a slight,y higher jump he is legit the best character in 64 DS
The traction is almost none existent if there at all & he has a ton of abilities only in that game including the ability to slow his decent, run on water! & spin like when bouncing off Shy Guys after doing a Backflip all while having the biggest jump

Luigi is the prime definition of a force not to underestimate. He opens the gate to diverse platforming for games such as 64DS and New Luigi U.

Luigi isn't useless. He is a humble god who lowers himself down to our level to make sure it gives us a challenge
In Mario Maker 2, if you fail a level from the history mode too many times, Luigi will actually ask you if you want him to show you how to beat it.
Fun fact: in Super Mario Bros 2 (USA) Toad WAS NOT THE FAST ONE!
That was Mario.
Toad was the strong one; could pick up enemies and items almost instantly (if not instantly).
Peach was a lot weaker, taking twice as long as the bros to pick things up.
Ultimately since picking things up wasn't a core mechanic of 3D World and Nintendo wanted Mario to be the all-rounder he usually is, his speed was given to Toad (in exchange for Toad having a lower jump) and Peach was made to move slower.

Honestly, how difficult he is to control in some of the games makes me appreciate him more. Like, he can do just as Mario can even when his movement is harder.

in NSMBWII there’s a feature where if you’re playing single player you can hit a green block to activate “luigi guide” which has a cpu clear the level for you as luigi, implying that luigi is more competent than mario in that game

You forgot about Super Mario Advance games. In Super Mario Advance 2 Luigi's jump is the most floaty it's ever been, you don't even need a cape feather to clear large jumps. In Super Mario Advance 4 Luigi jumps a little higher and stays in the air slightly longer, but you can also use him as extra powerup storage.
I literally played as Luigi almost the entire time I was playing NSMBDS and I can definitely that it’s worth it as he’s got a good performance.

Luigi has been the "meta" in Mario Games consistently since SM64DS, with 3DLand and 3DWorld, 64DS being where his spin jump is absolutely broken and can let you skip huge portions of levels and even cheat your way to stars. He is slightly better than Mario in 3DL and 3DW

I will not accept the luigi slander. he has saved marios ass several times, he has a job, a wife who doesn't get "kidnapped" every other week, he is the definition of an upstanding guy, also he owns a mansion so he makes more bank then mario.

Luigi in my eyes has always been a “risk reward” type of character. His slippery shoes might screw you up but if you get used to it, then you can do a lot more than you can with Mario. Therefore, I don’t feel like a tierlist on how good he is in each game is accurate. Still good video though!
Putting 3d world Luigi in hard mode is just wrong
Luigi is actually OP in 3D World. His stop-lag is really offset by his good speed and insane jump, which allows for some ridiculous skips on the Switch port with the air roll. I can beat Champion’s Road more consistently with Luigi than Peach. I’m not joking. This disrespect will not stand

Imagine thinking Luigi is hard mode in SMB2 USA. His high jump make many platforming areas a breeze. He can also access certain areas that other characters can't, making him valuable in finding secrets and shortcuts.
