It's unlikely you'd find it by accident. Unlike modern games, SNES games were generally very well tested since there was no patches, they ran on much simpler and much more limited machines than a modern PC or console, and they weren't built on a stack of third party software. (I mean there wasn't even an OS or a BIOS on the SNES.) Like others have said you have to know what you're doing to the buggy code to really exploit it.
Yeah that would be pretty nuts. Thought to be fair, a lot of us grew up on the NES where games would often boot up looking like some of these crash screens so maybe not lol.
0:40: Yoshi commits tax fraud... It's pretty disturbing how a lot of these glitches involve Yoshi, actually. 7:30: I like how this ancient game from 1991 actually has a check in place that stops Yoshi eggs with 1-Up Mushrooms from spawning if it detects too many already on the screen, yet a newer Mario game would be perfectly happy to spawn eggs/1-Up Mushrooms and slow your game to a crawl until it crashes from being overwhelmed. D:
There’s a limit for how many sprits can be spawned on screen. I think 9 for most sprites, but there’s an extra 2 reserved for certain sprites, like the ones that come from ? blocks.
Yoshi becomes the ultimate tool of Mario, not a friend any more This is really an obscure infinite 1up trick as you can't step a Koopa continously for 99 lives in this game
RAM and allocation capabilities increase much more over processor speed, meaning you can have a million sprites on screen without running out of memory, but it'll take a while to update all of them.
Imagine you fail the powerup increment glitch (the one with Yoshi on the rotating platform) and the game crashes... But then Totaka's song starts playing.

If by ruin you mean "brick your console/cartridge" Then No. Some of the more crazy glitches will crash your game (and even emulator) though. At worst I think your save files can end up wiped but that's pretty rare.

@@SMARTBoardSBMInchInteractiveWh that’s true, of course. I kinda meant on a deeper level, I’m curious from a programming standpoint what actually is going on in the code. Rereading my comment, I wasn’t very clear on that lol

Look up sethbling's videos on SMW glitches. he has a few tutorials. They helped me. It helps if you are playing via an emulator that has rewind support (like on switch) because some of the wackier ones require a lot of precision.
Hey. So I was at Power-Up State 20 or so and I misclicked by accident just as the brown platform was moving to the left and I accidentally think that I just discovered Power-Up State 257. IDK. Is a small Mario with alime torso, a lime hat, and a black face apart of the 256 Power-Up State? Anyways, I crashed the game testing this new state on Power-Ups, used the NSO's timestamp feature to go back to the point before I crashed and I'm in a new Power-Up State?! Just wanted to know if this was ever documented and if I am going crazy over that first Power-Up State is new or not. Thanks! Great video by the way.
Imagine being a kid and encountering these glitches by accident. That would be the most scarring crap ever
Exactly; that’s some demonic possession, right there 😱.
a fair amount of these require a lot of steps itd be impossible to find these by accident
