A bit of extra insight on the red/blue eyes symbolism: The original batman suit eyes were supposed to be green. However, the glow was added in post (pure CG) and they had a lot of problems getting the green hues to render properly, so they made the decision to change it to blue which showed up a lot better. This led to the movies working title, Blue Harvest.

I have one thing to say about Lex Luthor in this movie. He is definitely the best Riddler ever put on screen.

Speaking of Clark not knowing who Bruce Wayne is. In both Superman the animated series and Justice League War, Superman uses his X-ray vision to look through Batman’s mask and instantly recognizes Bruce Wayne. It’s just kinda weird that Zach Snyder decided to do things this way
Because zack Snyder doesn’t use his brain when it comes to the story points of his movies. Just look at his version of justice league. You’ve got darkseid fucking just forgetting about the only planet he lost on, where he lost his most prized possessions at, where his entire main goal is. And then Snyder fumbles over this batshit excuse as to why it happened. Then you have now a second movie where a word ending threat is taking place and Martian Manhunter was just chilling like “oh I hope you guys can do it!”

Snyder is more of a visual director, his movies may suck but they look really good, i think that if you give him a really good script, he'll make a great movie.
The reason Snyder killed Jimmy Olsen is because he doesn’t know what to do with a hopeful, inspiring character.

@@nosausepizzaboy1904 I think it should be more like this: Superman should be the bright-eyed hopeful character and he influences people around him. despite the world being a dark place, SUPERMAN IS THE LIGHT! Olsen could have had a rough background, taking things out on the world, but Superman brings the best of him out. so over the course of the film, Olsen becomes that bright character we know him as. He should have been the emo creative type, that decides to see the goodness in the world through photography.

The editing is phenomenal Ben! The Lex Luthor noise cuts are hilarious. They turned a powerful, threatening villain(comics) into a cringey, live-action, Daffy Duck.
Oh he was threatening for sure though. Cause I remember a movie where he killed many government agents, blamed superman, blew capital building, framed superman, pissed off batman into fighting superman, blamed superman and in the end, killed superman
No, they just exposed that he was a cringey Daffy Duck the whole time. The kind of threat that he exuded in the film was more akin to a sexual predator and rapist.
@@DivvayKhatri But not because it made any logical or reasonable sense for any of that to happen because of his actions though. It only happened because the writer wanted it to happen. That is why this film left us scratching our heads so much. There were too many, "Wait... what?" kind of moments that the writer used to move the story along. The reason they are fighting makes no sense other than the writer wants them to fight. The reason they stop fighting makes even less sense other than the writer wanted them to stop fighting. Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor was never threatening in the least in this movie. At least he should never have been a threat to Superman. The only reason he was is because Chris Terrio said he was. Not because it made any sense at all. He seemed more like he should have been a creepy serial rapist than anything else.
I assume that’s The Riddler. He stole Lex Luther‘s identity. The real Lex is played by Andre Braugher.

We are such fans of the comics and the animated series/movies, but the DC live action movies are in constant struggle-mode!! Zach Snyder should NOT have been given Superman to start the DCEU, Warner Bros. should've let him do a LOBO movie with his style.
BvS had some decent ideas. But they tried to cram 5 different movies into one: Batman Vs Superman, Lex Luthor being introduced, Justice League, Doomsday/ Death of Superman. The initial idea of Lex Luthor tricking Batman and Superman into fighting is good. Lex figuring out both of their secret identities off screen before his appearance is kind of dumb. This version of Lex is awful, and they try to justify it by saying "no no.. this is lex Junior", why would I want that? Why give me a character who is in no way similar to the original, but expected to fill the same role.If you have to have the justice league tie in, just make it a post-credits scene. Doomsday should have either been Man of Steel 2, or the focus of Justice League ending in Supermans death, that way the characters who know superman could realistically be shocked by it. Not a big fan of the "this is a batman who kills", that defeats the whole purpose.. Also if they had focused more on setting up a real reason for Batman and Superman to fight, and had previous fights (like had been mentioned, where batman realizes he is no match). It just feels like they tried too hard to both set up a cinematic universe, which never works when ever someone tries too hard to force it, and catch up with marvel. I'm not saying Marvel is the only formula that can work, but it is the only one that has worked so far. You cant jump straight into the big team up movie. It is a long process, but seems to have worked out pretty well for marvel. You don't have to do a movie for every single character, but you cant have a Superman move, then a Batman/ Superman crossover (with very forced character introductions), then the big team up.
It's a storylinr and a character from the dark knight returns, a character from superman 52 and another from superman birthright (lex), a storyline called the death of superman.

Doomsday showing up in this movie only disturbs it cause you know who he is. It's not your fault that you know the comics, but it is your fault that you think this is I'll timed. This is not what the writers wrote. This is what happened in the universe. Do you cry the same way when something odd or different happens in mcu? As for batman, he does kills some times in tdkr but I don't care. His core is still present and he's defeated, and dealt with shit ton of stuff. It's in the dialogues and more fledged out in the ultimate edition. And he does come back in the end after Superman's sacrifice inspires him. As of jumping straight into a team up movie, jl for me is not canon cause it's shot and the Snyder cut (3.5-4 hours long) is coming. I'll judge it there and then but it is no rule to follow the marvel formula of timelines. Btw batman was introduced properly in bvs itself
It’s Zack Snyder and WB trying to desperately catch up with marvel. They want to go balls to the walls with cameos and character introductions and set ups for other movies that are never going to happen. They focus on making sure they can jam all that shit in as opposed to making sure it’s well written and introduced in a coherent and meaningful way.
Imo, they should’ve started the DCEU with a justice league movie as a quick intro to main players, focus on having them learn to work as a team while they fight steppenwolf. Then work on giving them their own movies that flesh them out eventually coinciding to darkseid arriving on earth and them testing the limits of their abilities and trust in one another. But instead they wanted to copy marvel but RUSH to get there
@@DivvayKhatri There should have been a Man of Steel 2, a Batman solo film and a Wonder Woman solo film and then Batman V Superman. There would be more time to get to know all the characters before this crossover. The Batman solo film would have been a good way of showing how he became the more brutal version of himself
The death of superman feels very unearned because we haven’t really spent much time with this version of Superman and it feels rushed to do it straight after his first solo film
All those comics could have truly great live action adaptions but here it’s just so half arsed and crammed in with so much other stuff, his death could have been easily avoided too. Wonder Woman could have easily done it, an easy fix for that would be for Wonder Woman to just not be in the film or have her be knocked out by Doomsday

Despite the fact that I love the opening sequence of Batman v Superman, they should have replaced Jack with Lucius Fox...
I've debated that with myself before as well and am conflicted as while Lucius would be a great pick, he is typically a holdover associate of Thomas's and around his age. With Bruce at about 45 in this that would make Lucius ancient and unlikely to still be around in a serious day-to-day managerial position. A good compromise could have been Luke Fox, but that hits on the same issue as the audience doesn't know him, then again I suppose a way could have been worked in for someone to call him Mr. Fox in addition to Bruce calling him Luke (it could actually substantially add to it as that would mean they'd have been childhood friends who grew up together); but all in all this has never really bothered me to much as it's a pretty minor nitpick.
Martin Sevcech Exactly, they should have chosen somebody the audience already knows about. That would have made it even more compelling, whether it was Lucius Fox or not.
And then everyone would have got mad that they killed Lucius Fox straight away, like they did with Jimmy Olsen getting shot...

You know, I think I've done something no one's ever done in researching this movie. I read Clark's obituary. Apparently, he's an award-winning journalist. It brings up so many more questions to light.
I know it's insanely nitpicky but does Clark have a degree in journalism? The guy goes from working on a fishing boat to bussing tables at a diner to a digger on an excavation site and finally as an award-winning journalist at the local newspaper. Oh yeah, and he doesn't recognize the richest man in town.
It’s a heck of a career path, that’s for sure. I guess Lois just has that kind of pull.

But this exchange has me thinking: for all of Superman's powers he's not super smart. Aside from leaping tall buildings, speed of a bullet and power of a locomotive there's nothing in the Superman mythos that speaks to his ability to out-think his opponents. That moniker is usually associated with Batman, who's normally regarded as the world's greatest detective (something he fails to be in the Snyder universe) but Superman is by all accounts a man with god-like powers but not any smarter than the AverageMan.
In fact it's usually Lex Luthor who outsmarts Superman on a regular basis. But maybe that's part of Superman's appeal. He's certainly not dumb but his powers, for as great as they are, don't extend to his comprehension or intellect.
If you want to dive into other continuities, there are a few that also depict him as super intelligent, but the appeal for me was always that he’s basically an average small town guy who likes to help people, and he just so happens to have the power of a god. I don’t remember which incarnation it was, but in one story Clark admitted that the reason he loves journalism so much is because writing is one of the few things he doesn’t have a natural advantage in. He takes more pride in being a good reporter than being Superman because he feels the former was earned. I think that’s the reason I was disappointed by BvS. I was hoping to get more insight into Clark as a person instead of just a symbol or an allegory.
@@incredibilistic Its funny because superman has at least 8th level intellect so he technically the smartest being on earth if not one of the smartest, He probably views our technology as primitve especially when he sees what krptons were using but yeh for the plot he cant be smarter than cerain guys otherwise they would be useless.

It’s so stupid, Batman got very lucky when Supes used his super reflexes to catch the Gas Grenade instead of dodging it causing him to get gassed in the face. Batman should’ve reloaded straight away like he’s in a FPS, he’s supposed to be tactical.

Under Snyder, Superman became a charmless stick in the mud, Batman became a complete psychopath, Flash became an obnoxious fanboy (though Whedon may bear some of the blame for that), Aquaman became a block-headed surfer jock, and Lex Luthor became an insufferable twitchy cartoon. Batman is my absolute favorite superhero, and he is nowhere to be found in this film. Whoever this guy dressed as a bat is, he has a complete disregard for human life. I'm not going to act like Mercy Graves and Jimmy Olsen are characters I'm dying to see "done right", but the fact that they're technically in the film just for Snyder to kill them off speaks to the overall middle finger attitude he has toward the fanbase.

will nelson he definitely has great ideas, the issue is he needs DIRECTion, he needs someone to focus his ideas.
I think those films were fine (with a lot of great visual esthetic), but imagine how they would have turned out with a better plot.

I mean I’d also attribute some of that to the directors. One of them doesn’t know how to make a condensed movie and the other doesn’t know how to finish what he set up.
Plus both studios made the same mistake of poor planning.
The initial Metropolis sequence is fantastic, and the caption of "Mankind is introduced to the Superman" is plain awesome. The movie fell apart after that, though.
This movie was more Punisher vs Homelander
I saw this in cinemas in a Man of Steel/BVS double bill. In the brief intermission between movies after Man of Steel I turned to my friend and said "Isn't it strange that both their mothers are called Martha?" and about 2 hours later I was vindicated. I laughed heartily at what was meant to be a dramatic scene and no doubt ruined the movie-going experience of several other patrons.
Spiderman did more talking as a "cameo" in Civil War than Superman talked in this movie with Superman in it's name.....
In the theatrical cut sure, Ultimate Edition Clark is actually doing reporter stuff and has things to do.

He may have had some slip up but to me he more than makes up for them in truly enjoying what he does. You can see the glee in his eyes when he talks about his movies. You may not like them, but one can appreciate his enthusiasm. Everyone who has worked for him has said he’s one of the nicest directors any of them has ever worked with. Despite knowing people out there hate him, he still keeps on living, smiling and treating others with love. Also, he finished The Snyder Cut without getting paid so the fans can finally see what it was meant to be.

I'm confused whether or not the Flash scene is a dream sequence. If it's a dream, why would bruce be dreaming about the Flash? If it's not a dream, why did bruce wake up at the end, or did he faint from encountering the Flash?
When Bruce wakes up, the paperwork in the background is still in the air, suggesting it really happened, can't confirm tho.
My question is why is Bruce suddenly clairvoyant and able to see the future
My thought is that Bruce just became an passive viewer of the even due to flash. Then he wakes up but then when flash leaves, maybe flash unknowingly pulled Bruce back to when he was asleep again

Lex Luthor originally had hair when he was first introduced in the comics, so if anything this is more true to the story than a bald Lex Luthor
He was also a mad scientist like the movie depicts.
None of that stuff is an issue really, it’s just the portrayal is more suited to a character like the Joker or The Riddler

The Death of Superman comic mattered because we cared about Superman.
Nobody cared about Snyderman, so his death didn't matter.
Frank Miller's Batman worked because we had the regular Batman to compare him to, but this was the Batman for this universe.
So basically Snyder created a bunch of images from the comics, but couldn't link them with any story.
Like 300, like Watchmen, like pretty much every other movie he's done.
The biggest gripe I have is that Batman, the worlds greatest detective, who knows Luthor is involved in this, knows he’s importing kryptonite, knows he has a whole file on metahumans, NEVER ONCE THINKS “hmmm maybe luthors behind all this.” Ffs Lex bombs the capitol through a former Wayne financial employee and Bats somehow NEVER puts it together. He doesn’t even react to it. Did he think Superman did it??? I get it, he’s blinded by rage, but Bruce is an absolute DUMBASS in this movie.

Their are people out there that like some of the Snyderverse. You can't bring a guy with Avengers mentality to an already serious toned universe like the DCEU. Just doesn't make sense to go from BvS tone to Whedon's JL.

my biggest problem with the “save martha” scene is who the hell calls their mom by her first name
ikr if he had just said "save my mom" it would have humanised him more, whilst not necessitating that against all odds Batman and Superman's mothers have the same name. I know they've both been called Martha in various comics, but that doesn't justify this dumb decision.

If you want to see how lex Luthor should be portrayed, read Superman: American Alien. There isn’t too much of him in it, but the scenes with lex are so well written and paint a perfect picture of him

The Ultimate Edition is definitely better than the standard edition. That being said, both aren’t great but the Ultimate Edition definitely helped me like it more

This didn't come up in the video so I thought I'd toss it here: it might be old-fashioned DC comic fan of me but I could never stand or get over the fact that Lex Luthor just *knows* both Batman and Superman's secret identities. He just HAS that information. We don't see him figure it out, we don't learn HOW he ever figured it out, the movie just all of a sudden is like "oh yeah by the way, Lex knows who both of these guys are". Which makes it feel pointless that they were ever hiding their identities in the first place?? And by not-showing us any scene(s) wherein he earns that knowledge, it does nothing to make Luthor seem actively more dangerous. They might as well just say Luthor was born with a super power where he can figure out someone's identity because that's just as hollow.

This is what I've been saying since this movie came out, cut Eisenberg Lex out of the movie, shave Affleck's head and call him Lex, you've just improved the movie in so many ways. You don't have all the weight of having to introduce and establish a brand new Batman and you don't have to have them be friends at the end. Lex makes a suit to fight Superman in the comics so you have to change almost nothing until the Martha scene which you conveniently side step entirely.

YES. Luthor, in his best interpretations, is actually right about most things but has a few crucial personality flaws. He's basically Bruce Wayne but more egotistical and fundamentally selfish. The character is most interesting to me when Lex is actually heroic in a certain perspective, which the beginning of BvS would be the perfect set-up for.
They should explain Clark Kent's return as him being Clark's identical twin, who is also called Clark, then never mention or allude to it ever again.

I remember going to the midnight for this with a friend, after the first five minutes (The death of the Wayne's and Bruce in Metropolis) she whispers in my ear (I love this film already), about fifteen minutes later she was struggling to stay awake, I've never seen a film unhook someone so quick.
Even though I didn't want to see the Wayne parents get killed again I remember thinking this looks really good. However as soon as Bruce starts rising with the bats I knew was in for trouble
I dont care about the aesthetic of seeing his parents die if its stylized or what have you because its predictable. We already know his parents got killed...

Hey I also went to the Midnight showcase it was bloody awesome. But I was letdown with JL they should have went with Injustice mixed with Darkseid . I was so tired the day after and my then manger gave me a half day off to leave early.
I remember the first twenty minutes of this movie being awesome, then when Superman just let Jimmy Olsen die in Africa the whole film just took a massive nose dive.
