Patiently waiting for the Man of Steel Snyder cut featuring an entire additional post-credit movie where we see Faora and Christopher Meloni in the phantom zone, engaging in an passionate relationship involving a lot of heated arguments and some Incredibly graphic sex scenes Until after an inevitable fallout they learn to accept each other despite all of their flaws and end up moving to the suburbs.
@KJ Beast I like Man of steel theme because it gives character centeric human feel to it... and John Williams score is a march and it kinda gives a soldier vibe to it... Zimmer's theme is good to listen to but William's theme is more iconic... I think neither is better than the other but zimmer's soundtrack fits sups for this generation...
Michael Shannon’s performance as General Zod is severely underrated. Not only is he a fearsome badass, but you actually UNDERSTAND his motives and objectives. Also, the absolute certainty of his character is a good foil for the internal confusion of Clark Kent.
@@emzonik8851 No, it wouldn't. They have a world engine; they can terraform what ever planet they want. Another stupid thing is the fact that they don't even need to terraform earth, it's already habitable, and they would get superpowers. Zod goes to war with Superman and the humans for really no reason. Zod is an idiot in this film, all of his actions make no logical sense. - I don't give me any bullshit about him being a soldier, that doesn't excuse his moronic behavior.
Weirder that people could shit on this movie so hard, movie losing viewers but then come back years later and say its underrated and one of the best superhero origins. Critics aren't shit
One thing I really liked in man of steel is how they depicted clark's strength. He's not like a hulk or thor where he's physically exerting himself, it's more like the things he's lifting and the stuff he being hit by aren't even there.
This. Zodd could've hurled him through a kindgergarden full of kids and Superman would not even notice it. And then Superman would just hurl Zodd through 10 buildings full of people, that's how strong he is. I love Superman.
I played the youngest Clark Kent in this movie (besides the baby, I mean) and I've been a fan of the channel for a long time. I was hoping you'd say something about my performance, but to be fair I was in like 2 scenes 😔 Still cool to see myself in a Mr Sunday video though!
You were cool, man. Good job. Glad you didn't turn into that Brightburn kid. You should've flown to Brightburn and beat him up or something, before he started killing regular humans. What a little punk, I say.
Every 2nd Superman movie didn't have kryptonite. Superman: The Movie- Kryptonite Superman II- No Kryptonite Superman III- Kryptonite Superman IV: The Quest For Peace- No Kryptonite Superman Returns- Kryptonite Man Of Steel- No Kryptonite Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice- Kryptonite Justice League- No Kryptonite
@@pentelegomenon1175 I mean they Did get real kryptonite going in the final battle, but even if they Hadn't- I would count the Kryptonite-esque stuff. The movie is based around the idea of Kryptonite more than literally any other Superman movie, except maybe BvS
They weren't planning to invade, invading means take over and enslave the people, The Kryptonians wanted full reformation, no trace of humans, just terraform the Earth into Krypton unfortunately all living beings in the planet have to bye bye
This movie isn't all bad. It just doesn't coalesce into a good movie as a whole. (And also, I think they're keeping in mind how much worse the other movies are)
I think it was a good movie, there a some things to critic but overall i love it. I think the ending with the neck snapning was extremely powerful to watch, even thought it gets bashed because of the killing of zod.
IDK... To me everything important about it in terms of filmmaking - pace, themes, characterisation, editing, camerawork, visuals in general - are all things I profoundly dislike about it. Maybe if the action didn't feel like one were falling down the Niagra Falls in a barrel with a single window in it I could forgive it, but that's just how I feel.
One thing that I really like about the film was the scale. Snyder isn’t one of my favorites but the guy has a talent for making scenes look and feel larger than life. Even if it did come at the expense of a well written script, he has an eye for the art nonetheless.
See that's one of my problems with this movie. I don't find it visually interesting at all, especially for a Snyder film. I think about some of the iconic visuals in Watchman and 300 and Man of Steel doesn't have any shots in it as memorable as those movies. The colors are flat and the action is uninspired. It lacks Snyder's strengths and puts his weakness as a storyteller at the forefront.
Quick question: Why do the Kryptonians want to change Earth's atmosphere when the current one gives them superpowers? They could be flying around all day long and have laser eyes, this is madness.
They don't want to change the atmosphere they wanted to wipeout humanity and build a new civilization and what are you talking about ? Earth atmosphere doesn't give them superpowers they already have superpowers
Technically changing the atmosphere won't depower them because they get their powers from the sun but it will make earth more livable to their standards. Remember every time one gets their helmets smashed they go through extreme discomfort.
@@johnboko7110 you clearly know nothing about Krypton... Krypton's red sun makes them normal people, but the Earth's yellow sun gives them superpowers. Look it up, please.
I really liked man of steel. Watched it loads of times even watched it the otherday. And hans Zimmer soundtrack is amazing. One of my favourite film soundtracks
Still a bad movie that proves that Zack Snyder fundamentally doesn’t get the Superman character as this isn’t a Superman movie but a hulk movie with all the destruction
@Charles Didn't see Aquaman. But WW is better, at almost everything (I still like MoS score better). But Shazam is the best to me. I guess they are both less daring, if you want to put it that way. But at least they are not a total mess
@Charles Bruh Superman stands out for how little agency he has in the span of two movies. Batman is kind of better until it's revealed as a mean for Snyder's hyperviolence fetish. Also plotlines don't go well together and some of them lead nowhere. Not as bad as SS but still
@@PacMonster0 Disagree with your analysis. You say the story is just not Superman but the thing is MoS is Superman's beginning, he hasn't yet become the Superman that is so well known. From feeling like an outsider all the way to killing Zod those events that he went through are what would eventually forge him into becoming Superman and I'm glad the film makers paid attention to such details because honestly I wouldn't expect him to be the Big , Blue boy scout right from the get go nor would it have made much sense (to me anyway).
Nobody brings up that Superman snaps Zod's neck in a way that makes his heat vision move towards the family. Do it the other way, Superman! Oh god, the family got cut in half!
Or just tilt his head up or down, or just fly away with him, or just cover his eyes with your impervious hands, or just pull a Dark Knight Returns and break his neck half way, thus leaving him alive but also paralyzing him. And who knows, he might end up finishing the job by breaking his own neck just to spite you.
@@calebmurphy9406 Keep fighting and then what? Let him actually destroy the city and kill even more people. He made it clear he wasn't going to stop until he killed everyone on the planet. Also, how the heck would he know how to snap his neck halfway? He's not Batman. He's just a dude who's never fought a day in his life before that day. And we see that they aren't impervious to heat vision in the Smallville fight. It hurts their eyes, and I'm pretty sure one of tries to cover the others eyes and gets crispy hands for their trouble.
@@calebmurphy9406 His hands aren't impervious to heat vision by another kryptonian. Batman did kill Joker in the Dark Knight Returns, he didn't half snap his neck, it was Batman's way of copping with what he has just done, you can read all the theories on it but it's pretty much confirmed via the text bubbles in the comic. How easy do you think it would be to tilt someone's head that is actively fighting against you, then to snap their neck. And what is he going to do if he flies away with him?
I think the fact that superman had problems breathing as a baby kinda explains the "illogical" overprotective nature of his parents. I mean he doesn't know it until he gets on the spaceship in space but they know that he isn't "invulnerable"
Well Clark's parents in all the lore have always been over protective, but they weren't sociopathic cowards that are okay and willing to sacrifice other children's lives just to protect his identity. In fact they encourage him to help whoever he can however he can. And they still worry over him and tell him to protect himself.
The easiest step of any Superman story is to portray his earth-parents as simple likable loving people who teach him good morals. But Man Of Steel decided to make Pa Kent seem like an morally insane person who constantly keeps telling Clark how he's basically destined to be a god among ants, to always keep his powers secret even if it means letting people die, and then Pa Kent gets himself killed in the dumbest way possible for no reason. Somehow, Man Of Steel found a way to make everyone hate Pa Kent. It's amazing.
Guys I love you, but you neglected to mention Hans Zimmer's fantastic score! It's definitely not John Williams, but the "heroic" theme used in the trailer still gives me chills.
@@ge2719 why are you dogging on the scene man? It's fire because it superman coming hot and heavy pissed off at zod for threatening his mother, and yes, blowing up the petrol station and silo.
@@Vauhnn hes in the movie hes in his 30. So the idea he is using his powers for the first time is also moronic. But that doesnt change the fact hes supposed to be a hero and yet he literally causes people to die. Watch interviews with zack moron snyder about this movie. he literally says he sees superman as the enemy. He hates hero characters and he intentionally made superman an unrelatable psychopath. Yet you're cheering him on for killing people... Wow. Just wow.
Love how much fun they have doing this, moving there happy energy into other people through the medium of TH-cam. Possibly the most underrated channel on TH-cam
6:30 is actually a REALLY good point. The structure of the flashbacks and posing questions the film has already answered is one of Man of Steel’s biggest issues.
N how was he able to destroy the truck without anyone noticing it..? Sure he can do it super fast..but the noise!! One or two passersby..even the people in the diner must've heard it.
The order of the flashbacks are Lois retracing Clark’s steps as he wandered about saving people is why it’s older to younger as she gets closer to small vile
I caught the movie on TV last night like 45 minutes in (basically starting on Clark in the Diner getting sh*t from the trucker) and it went from a movie I genuinely couldn't sit through past the Russel Crowe Krypton stuff to a movie I genuinely loved. It actually annoyed me that they have all that crap at the start to basically cover it all in a much cooler, much more succinct 2 minute flashback later in the movie.
I remember seeing this movie in 2013 and just being completely blown away. At the time, the action scenes made it my favorite movie of that year. Something I just noticed is that with Justice League, the mustache was a problem with Superman. But if you look at the earlier days of adult Superman in this movie, he has a mustache and beard.
There’s two other things that stood out to me as well in this movie: the soundtrack, love it! And there was way too much shaky cam. Even in the emotional scenes, it was very distracting to me.
That ‘shaky cam’ is done in post, using (probably) After Effects, so it’s not just the fact it’s shaky, it’s the artificial nature of it that grates, I think. They can put as many ‘randomisers’ on the effect as they like, but it still comes across as unnatural to the human eye, compared to just an actual camera that’s shaking, plus obviously the fact that they use it on everything now, in every fucking scene. Drives me nuts.
It definitely has its faults, but overall I really liked it. I do wish Superman was only an instrument of destruction in Metropolis, instead of the creator. Ie, only Zod throwing him through buildings instead of also having him destroy some with Zod.
And some of that destruction was just him not being used to fighting and flying and exerting himself and fine tuning these newly exploited abilities. Out of nowhere you're in a fist fight with half a dozen people who don't give a shit about how much destruction they are causing. Try fighting someone in a china shop, and they aren't being careful like you....and oh, btw, they are trying to kill you and other people the whole time. Think you can keep every bowl and glass in that shop perfectly intact??
Honestly I think the highway tornado scene would work really well if Clark actually save Pa Kent but then when they get home Pa Kent dies of a heart attack (like in every other version) to directly show the contrast of Clark discovering the limitations of his powers
17:46 He'll kill if he has to. *Shows Superman vs The Elite movie in which superman KILLS NOBODY. And the point of the movie is SUPERMAN NOT KILLING* That's like the big reveal/plot twist
Superman is a character with over 80 years of stories in various mediums. Just because he doesn't kill in one story, doesn't mean he hasn't in plenty of others.
@@mikev1642 A few, sure, most of which aren't canon. Superman not killing is central to everything about him: his personality, his themes, his significance as a pop culture icon.
yeah, just, another director please, (guys dont be mad, i understand some of you are fans of snyder but he has had 3 movies with the character now, give someone else a turn please)
I really like Henry Cavill as Superman. I think he's solid. I also love how passionate he is about the role. But the thing that really made the film for me was Michael Shannon. Like holy sh*t he's good. He's legit one of my favorite movie villains. He's legit scary and also I honestly get where he's coming from. He literally watched his entire planet blow up. He basically had a front seat to the extinction of his race. He doesn't want world domination or any of that. He only has one goal, the survival of his people. Also, Faora is hands down one of the most badass characters ever put on screen. I feel like she doesn't get enough love. Like you've got your Wonder Woman, Black Widow, Captain Marvel, Gamora and Scarlet Witch to name a few but I honestly like her more than a lot of them. Also, Superman's first flight is legit one of my all time favorites movie moments. My biggest complaint with the film is the final fight. Like it genuinely depresses me seeing all that destruction. In any other movie I'd honestly be cheering but the fact that Superman isn't making an effort to lessen the damage or take the fight elsewhere. Like punching Zod outta the city or something. Like he's literally punching Zod through buildings and cutting buildings in half with heat vision. I'm all for consequences and I'm not saying there shouldn't be ANY damage but holy sh*t it was too much. At least for me. Especially for a character like Superman. One of his biggest weaknesses is his humanity. He'd go out of his way, while getting pummeled just to save people. Like there was Kaiju level destruction and Superman's ONLY concern seemed punching Zod into things.
Took the words right out of my mouth. Love that movie so much, but can't get past the *unnecessary* destruction. Like when Superman punches Namek into the Smallville trains, or when he effortlessly moves out of the way of an incoming gasoline truck, letting it crash and blow up part of a building.
As far as we know, the fight in Smallville is the first real fight Clark has ever been in, at least against someone about as strong as him, if you’ve never been a fight before it’s incredibly difficult to control the fight even if you know what you are doing. In the fight with Zod he does try to remove him from the city and fails, because Zod is a much more experienced than him.
That actor is insane in everything he does its crazy. Just in revolutionary road hes there 10 mins and steals the show. Hes the best dcu villains and probably in the top 5 if you mix dcu and mcu
ecth97 in the Smallville fight, which by the way is hands down one of my favorite superhero battles, Superman was legit trying to save people. In the Metropolis fight, he literally grinded Zod's head into a freaking building, wrecking that building. He can literally superspeed Zod into a less populated place but as I said in my post, he was LITERALLY punching him INTO buildings, wrecking building after building, cutting buildings in half, the commenter above mentioned the big tanker explosion which he just let happen for no freaking reason and just not even seeming like he gave a single sh*t about the people there. Like there were a bunch of people there when the camera did the Snyder zoom. Which is like the opposite of how he was acting in Smallville. He was STILL saving and helping the soldiers who were freaking shooting at him even though he was still getting his ass whooped. I'm sorry but imo, that final fight was just one of those thing that "look cool" but are nonsensical. As I said in my OP comment, I'm all for destruction and big consequences but Superman not giving a sh*t in the final battle just took me out of it. But that was just me.
There was never a scene where Superman punched Zod into a building in metroplis 😂 Zod threw Superman in multiple buildings and Superman ram his head on the side of the building but that was it. Compare that with JLU when Superman fought Darksied in a populated city and did not care when he punched Darksied through multiple buildings then punched him to the ground. Or his fight with Shazam that resulted an entire city block destroyed to its foundation because both of them was toppling buildings on top of eachother.
'its a bird, its a plane...no..its two horrific super-beings fighting with no restraint in a densely populated urban environment, showing no signs of remorse for the people they are most certainly killing as they smash each other through buildings and throw oil tankers at each-other"
I feel so vindicated by this commentary. I have long said that this movie's greatest sin is the absolute crap portrayal of Pa Kent, and I rarely hear others make this criticism. Bang on!
So many comments already... One thing to keep in mind about the Pa Kent tornado scene on the page that sadly doesn't come across in the film... Clark is a teenager there. he's supposed to be in high school, like 15-16 years old. His dad is protecting his still a child's identity and chance at a normal life. Also Pa Kent is teaching his sacrifice.
But how does that line up with “consider letting those kids die” speech earlier? There’s never a point when Pa Kent recognizes some things are more important than a normal life. They make fear his defining character trait
Yeah there was no excuse for that death scene. Could have been avoided multiple ways and even if he used super speed to save his dad, so what. Doesn’t make him to be an alien. There are tons of stories where people tap into superhuman abilities to save their loved ones in the heat of danger. No one is going to linger on that at all.
"The death of Pa Kent is the dumbest death in the history of cinema" Ah, Pa Kent committing suicide via tornado. One of the funniest scenes in the DCEU.
@@davidmanahan2823 what they forget to mention about the movie Young Superman save his classmates from drowning on the bus and if he would have saved his daddy from the tornado people would have put two and two together that this boy is not normal💪👓👔👕
The criticism I bring up against this idea (and even for Reeves) is that.. even though it does work and its fine, why wouldn't these natural causes and natural deaths then push Clark to study medicine and biology? Including big monstrous uncontrollable acts of nature give us more insight into what Clark truly could help out with that nobody else could.. yet.. here lies Johnathan's argument: Clark could do a lot for the world, but the world simply wasn't ready for him and wouldn't be able to handle Clark until a truly divine moment like Zod's arrival and everyone would have to trust Superman. Johnathan saw all of this in his own way.
Christopher Meloni’s character and Faeora got sucked into the phantom zone and have lived a happy and peaceful life together ever since. There will never be any evidence that that DIDN’T happen
I think that's just cuz it was probably a Photoshop and our brains are so used to the original picture, so it's like visual dissonance or whatever the f****** term is
I've seen this film multiple times but I don't remember a note of the music. The Christopher Reeve version though, I can hum that all the way through off by heart.
I feel like the finale not moving away from Metropolis could've been fixed with a couple of lines from Zod: "He seems to care about these humans. Use them. Make him suffer." Then, given superman was outnumbered, no matter what he does the Kryptonians would keep the battle centred on the city. It ensures a constant distraction to the only real threat against them, making him have to choose to fight or protect. It's one of the few ways you can really hurt Superman.
Best Lois, Lex and the Kents- Smallville Best relationship--Lois and Clark Best Daily Planet staff--Lois and Clark Best Superman--Henry Cavill Best classic Superman - Christopher Reeve(Duh)
Christopher Maloni and Faora DEFINITELY have romantic chemistry. I think they were the only people to survive the crash. After realizing she was stuck, Faora contemplated killing Christopher Maloni, but then decides not to because it was pointless, he posed no threat to her and as a warrior she has a code of honor that prevent her from killing without a purpose. Over time they would grow to become more comfortable with each other. At one point one of Christopher Maloni's interests comes up and explains it to her; she gets impressed by that thing. That's when she falls in love with him.
This is how I do it. Rewatch it. Imagine Clark knows he's an alien but he's being respectful of the General's secret. The conversation between them here in this film appears like he knows and letting the general know he k no vows without saying it.
Apparently, he didn't knew he was. But Snyder did throw nods about him being Martian Manhunter. Like how he doesn't back away when Clark breaks the cuffs, unlike everyone else.
The Justice League Unlimited animated series does a great fight against doomsday where superman explains he’s always holding back his full power to avoid collateral damage and then shows his full power by kicking doomsday’s arse.
For me, the tornado sequence shows that even though moments before Clark said "but you're not my father", he really did see him that way, and respected him and his position in Clark's life. And so Pa Kent's motive in that hurricane is not just "save people" but "save my son," so of course he's going to take the lead and tell Clark to stay safe. (Plus, do any of the Kents actually know he's tornado-proof at that point?) Clark listens because he listens to his father, despite all the teenage angst. Pa Kent's general attitude in the movie, of feeling a conflict between wanting to encourage his child to follow his instincts to help people, and keeping his child safe, is pretty real. If my son said "dad, I want to enter a career where I'll be constantly endangering myself in order to help people," I would feel tremendous pride at that, but would at the same time likely say "what about a safe career?" because my primary concern as his parent is protecting him, not the rest of the world.
It just needs more, like maybe Clark does disobey his father and rush in only for Jonathan to be killed. Or Clark went to get the dog and Jonathan followed him to make it seem like Clark was normal to other people and then gets killed.
Two ways you can look at it: 1) Clark is doing what his father tells him because he's his father and tells him to do something 2) Clark actually agrees with Pa' Kent philosophy that he should stay secret 1 means he's a passive character. Which is proved again later in the movie. That's boring 2 is arguably worse. Choice defines character. So he's saying "you know what, anonimity is more valuable than the life of a person I love". That's the wrong choice to have him make. Even if you don't count that he's Superman, he's still a hero protagonist Probably a mixture of both. Either way it doesn't work
Not really, in the context of the film, the scene made a lot of sense. Jonathan knew the world was not ready for Clark, that's why he was so upset when Clark saved the school bus.
Blake Pittman and even when you consider that it makes no sense. It was a dog...maybe if it was a human being it would’ve held more weight but Jonathan didn’t need to sacrifice himself to get the point across that he believed the world wasn’t ready for Clark. It’s also a betrayal of the core of Jonathan Kent as a character. MOS Jonathan wanted Clark to suppress who he truly is and act as if the only responsibility that comes with great power is to yourself with your main concern being to never, ever let anyone know you're different.
@@RJ-Ramen because different scares people. People hate those who are different, that is why there are no other species of hominids left on planet Earth. Jonathan was trying to protect his son by teaching him to suppress his abilities. Snyder was going for a more realistic take on the Man of Steel and the world around him.
After finishing the DC films, would you guys consider covering some Star Wars comics from the early/mid 2000s? Eg: The Republic comics or Star Wars: Obsession.
My favourite part of the film is when superman is harnessing energy when he's under the world engine and his face morphs into Christopher Reeves!! An amazing callback and homage to the classical superman!! I love this movie I think its amazing and I love cavill as superman and hope to see him return!!
When Martain Manhunter shapechanges, he can change down to the atomic level. On top of that he can scramble your thoughts/perceptions without trying. If he didn't want Supes to know he wasn't a regular dude, he would never know.
I literally redited a version of Man of Steel for myself, where I move that exact scene you mention to where it should be because it bugged me so much. Thank you for vindicating my effort!
I saw this film 5 times in Cinema, I loved it... (Granted I have an unlimited card) and then when I finally saw the reviews come out on youtube etc, I was amazed at the hate it got... P.S. I always took his outburst after the “kill” to be more of a general anger/remorse at the whole situation, not just the single kill
5 times? Geez. I think the fighting in smallville was fine but once they started fighting in the city it was kind of awful imo. There was no substance just punching and smashing buildings. That leads me to a thought of how difficult it is to showcase the power of these characters yet not making it a boring dribble of superman smash. Also the dong rockets were ridiculous and Clark's father letting himself get eaten by a tornado is also dumb. They could of just had him have a heart attack or something and it would of worked
@@torstenw5723 Well, for Clark's father dying part is not stupid, yes it maybe unecessary but it's not stupid. He was willing to protect his son's secret to the grave and didn't let Clark to save him because he loved him and this love is not a selfish one. Yeah some people knew Clark, and he did some outstanding scenes here and there, but the point still stands. He basically wanted to say "My Son... Don't show your powers just yet, because people aren't ready yet for you". You can see a hint in his eyes that Clark wanted to save him, but he also wanted to honor his dad wishes. Because Clark was also bullied for his powers which caused him to doubt humanity, yet he deep down is actually a good guy that faced internal conflict everyday, sometimes he saved people, but sometimes he hesitated too. Earlier, he was debating about wanting to save people, but Joseph hated the idea in which Clark lashing out saying that the Kents weren't his true family, in a way saying that he didn't belong here. That's why he cried after killing Zod. Being a Krypton actually gives him purpose that otherwise wouldn't be fulfilled since he doesn't belong on Earth.
Man of Steel looking back, as you pointed out, had some great elements. But I feel like the tonal whiplash of Superman's aggressive fighting style and the finale's heavy body count don't do it favours. It's a frustrating movie as a Superman fan and someone who likes stories, because you could polish it and rework it into something truly moving. Maybe it should have been more focused, the finale could've been something more personal like saving the Kryptonians from themselves and not eradicating them. Everyone posturing for war and Superman, Son of both Worlds showing them a new peaceful way.
I don't think "tonal whiplash" is the phrase you mean to use. It implies that the tone rapidly changed during the movie, whereas I think the big problem with the movie is that the tone is always the same.
Yeah, he was cool in this movie. I didn't like how he didn't shake Lois' hand in that scene, though. You're a military officer. That was very unprofessional and unbecoming, especially considering that she is an American civilian.
Plows into Zod, punching the hell out of him, telling him to never threaten his mother... Who he just left defenseless with 8 other Kryptonian soldiers
They immediately went back in the ship to help their boss who you know...just got blitzed. I think they'd rather make sure the new leader of the Kryptonians lives than waste time.
Foe some reason a comment was deleted. Imma just add it, roughly. "The Kryptonians are super hardwired to commands, as they're genetically modified to obey, so they probably left Martha alone because Zod didn't order anything."
I just discovered this channel and what I really like is that it isn't just another AVGN or Nostalgia Critic clone channel. The commentary and reviews are hilarious but there is no fake outrage at anything being discussed or pretending to be surprised by the contents of what they are reviewing or full of sketches or any of that. I like AVGN and the Nostalgia Critic but way too many channels just try to clone what they do. After 15 years of seeing just variations of the "this movie looks like it could be good....oh no, it's actually terrible, I'm so mad about it!", it's refreshing to just have two funny guys shooting the shit, talking about what they liked and disliked about movies, TV shows, video games, etc. It seems simple but this type of content is extremely rare on youtube.
I just watched it yesterday don't care what people say i love it. Technology finally caught up to the point where you could show Superman punch something, breaking the sound barrier left and right while his and Zod's fight was a dizzying display of demigod proportion as it should. "Oh to much destruction and collateral damage" if Superman didn't have much experience fighting people with his level of power, lots of destruction is a given its unrealistic to think the villains would be ok moving the fight to a wasteland like DBZ. This movie showcases the utter power of Superman my only complaint is Pa Kent would never suggest you should let people die but then we just start nitpicking.
I enjoyed this movie. I don't want to see a 30 minute sequence of superman just rescuing people. I remember watch age of Ultron and there's that long sequence of avengers rescuing people and it was so boring.
The thing is that Pa Kent was fucking tired of living with an amazingly godly powerful son and the only way he thought he could get out was dying. It's the only justification I can find for this stupid scene in Man of Steel!
Clark could've gotten to Pa Kent in time but dies anyway (weak heart or impaled from something being tossed in the storm) Teaching Clark, even with your great power you can't save everybody.
The richard Donner cut of 2 is my favorite but it's definitely between this and superman 1 as my second favorite but I'm not sure which one I'd give the silver medal to, it's just too close.
I'm one of the biggest fans of Hans Zimmer's score, when Superman flies for the first time 😍 The sound of his Cape flapping, the epic music and the beautiful sound of sonic booms give eargasm😍😍
Yeah, and the way they had him die, too. It was way more impactful in the comics and Original movie to have him die of natural causes. Something Clark couldn't prevent. I mean if I could knowing save my dad, even if he said not to, I'd do it. I mean a tornado, really? Clark could have sped in there, saved him and the could have been like, "weird, that tornado sucked us up and landed us gently in a wheat field, It's a miracle!"
@@LordDarthSmyth nobody would have believed them and the government would have come after Clark, that's what Jonathan was attempting to prevent. He knew that the world was not ready for the real Clark but they eventually would be.
I guarantee that John Kent wasn’t supposed to die like that, but Kevin Costner wanted to go out as an unassuming hero. So they wrote in a tornado and dog situation.
I don't think that's the case at all. For one, Sci-Fi as a genre is extremely broad, and Superman has always been a part of Sci-Fi. Even the earlier Christopher Reed movies are Sci-Fi films. Man of Steel is visually unimpressive, especially for a Snyder film. It takes itself way too seriously, as the themes and ideas it presents are shallow and well trodden, yet they're presented as if they're deep philosophical breakthroughs. It's a film trying way too hard to ape the success of The Dark Knight series as opposed to having its own identity. All that being said, I don't think the movie is terrible, it's too competent to be terrible but not executed well enough for me to recommend it. In my opinion it's a boring film, and being a part of the Sci-Fi genre has nothing to do with why it's a boring film.
This is not a sci fi movie. There isn’t any sci fi ideas, themes or story points that would make it so. At most it could be science fantasy, like Star Wars. If you want to argue that it’s sci fi ‘cause aliens’, then Superman has always been sci fi, this film didn’t break new ground.
I think people were ready for sci fi it’s just in the movie Superman doesn’t act like Superman he doesn’t smile he doesn’t want to help people he broods that’s the main problem with BVS Batman murders people and Superman like I said before doesn’t help people and doesn’t seem like he wants to.

Am I the only one who finds Zimmer to be incredibly overrated and his score for this movie to be very bland?
Michael Shannon’s performance as General Zod is severely underrated. Not only is he a fearsome badass, but you actually UNDERSTAND his motives and objectives. Also, the absolute certainty of his character is a good foil for the internal confusion of Clark Kent.

Thor and Hulk should be depicted the same but unfortunately Marvel still doesn't understand how to make powerhouses look strong

Bullshit. Snyder loves his close ups. Never did i feel like something was "large in scale" while watching the movie.
Blyzer
I mean..... I’d argue that seeing the guy fly over the planet only to fall into a literal war of the worlds, but okay.
It's not that good visuals come at the expense of a good script, it's just that he can't manage a good script. They aren't mutually exclusive

I don't know if this makes sense but I feel like MoS is a good (not great) superhero movie but somewhere from a "meh to bad" Superman movie
@Charles Bruh Superman stands out for how little agency he has in the span of two movies. Batman is kind of better until it's revealed as a mean for Snyder's hyperviolence fetish. Also plotlines don't go well together and some of them lead nowhere. Not as bad as SS but still

All they need is a good script.
21:30 the moment the theme kicked in, I started tearing up.

Clark is a teenager there. he's supposed to be in high school, like 15-16 years old. His dad is protecting his still a child's identity and chance at a normal life. Also Pa Kent is teaching his sacrifice.
He’s 17/18, but he’s, he’s right there at the cusp of adulthood when it happens.
But how does that line up with “consider letting those kids die” speech earlier?
There’s never a point when Pa Kent recognizes some things are more important than a normal life.
They make fear his defining character trait
He should’ve died of a heart attack something Superman can’t save
He could've done it in a lowkey supermaney way no need to fly and laser shit just run and help him !

@EnigmaDrath No remember his classmate saw him save the bus! That's why Louis came around asking questions?!

Henry smiling in the thumbnail is making me both unnerved and sad that a smiling Superman feels unnatural.
Nah, the actual smile looks kinda strained.
I think that's just cuz it was probably a Photoshop and our brains are so used to the original picture, so it's like visual dissonance or whatever the f****** term is
He smiled at least 30 times throughout the film.

Yes! Thanlk you! This is my favorite soundtrack of all time
I've seen this film multiple times but I don't remember a note of the music. The Christopher Reeve version though, I can hum that all the way through off by heart.
I feel like the finale not moving away from Metropolis could've been fixed with a couple of lines from Zod:
"He seems to care about these humans. Use them. Make him suffer."
Then, given superman was outnumbered, no matter what he does the Kryptonians would keep the battle centred on the city. It ensures a constant distraction to the only real threat against them, making him have to choose to fight or protect. It's one of the few ways you can really hurt Superman.

Both his fathers played Robin Hood.
he didn't notice the general spawn as martian manhunter because he change his full body even the inside
This is how I do it. Rewatch it. Imagine Clark knows he's an alien but he's being respectful of the General's secret. The conversation between them here in this film appears like he knows and letting the general know he k no vows without saying it.
@@juan-josegarza7039 could be but the actor who play general spawn didn't know he was playing martian manhunter until before the Snyder Cut
Apparently, he didn't knew he was. But Snyder did throw nods about him being Martian Manhunter. Like how he doesn't back away when Clark breaks the cuffs, unlike everyone else.
@@ngultrum1 yeah i saw it zack had to know it really fit the story the only part i want from martian is his back story
Two ways you can look at it:
1) Clark is doing what his father tells him because he's his father and tells him to do something
2) Clark actually agrees with Pa' Kent philosophy that he should stay secret
1 means he's a passive character. Which is proved again later in the movie. That's boring
2 is arguably worse. Choice defines character. So he's saying "you know what, anonimity is more valuable than the life of a person I love". That's the wrong choice to have him make. Even if you don't count that he's Superman, he's still a hero protagonist
Probably a mixture of both. Either way it doesn't work
Probably would have been better if it wasn't about saving a dog, and we didn't see the Kents have a _different dog_ later.
It's like Clark's dad wanted to die. Maybe he was depressed af.
He really loved that dog.
That's how I felt when I walked out of the cinema after seeing this. I decided not to tolerate bullshit movies anymore, which saved me a lot of time.
Not really, in the context of the film, the scene made a lot of sense. Jonathan knew the world was not ready for Clark, that's why he was so upset when Clark saved the school bus.
Blake Pittman and even
when you consider that it makes no sense.

5 times? Geez. I think the fighting in smallville was fine but once they started fighting in the city it was kind of awful imo. There was no substance just punching and smashing buildings. That leads me to a thought of how difficult it is to showcase the power of these characters yet not making it a boring dribble of superman smash. @@torstenw5723 would HAVE worked, not of
@@torstenw5723
Well, for Clark's father dying part is not stupid, yes it maybe unecessary but it's not stupid.
You have a point, I was having trouble thinking of how to articulate that point.

Man of Steel was superman story through the lens of a sci-fi movie. I don't think ppl were ready for that at the time
I don't think that's the case at all.
That doesn't make any sense
