You don't have to worry about being controversial about China/HK/Macau, don't overthink it. They are all 1 country (China), but China has granted them 2 systems like economy/law which HK and Macau have separate ones. China still gets the last say if need be, but they pretty much let them do what they want as long as it doesn't interfere with the security. Macau and HK are under Chinese military protection and China allows both those cities to have their own foreign relations in international settings like WTO etc.
China is way more relaxed than what western media tells people. You have to see for yourself. And according to them, Chinese economic collapsed years ago 😂
Hello, I just watched your video about visiting ShangHai and I am surprised to see that you visited Macau! I am a Macanese and I can explain the concerns and confusions which you were having during the filming:) 1. The streets in the beginning were quiet because those aren't popular tourist destinations and there's nothing much there. Even for Macanese, we won't walk there at all. 2. It's absolutely ok to say that Macau was colonized by Portugal as we also learn about this at school. This is our history. 3. There are some special events or fairs in the Tap Seac Square throughout the year. During the festivals like Chinese New Year and Christmas, you will find a lot of booths and even temporary rides being set there, and you will find lots of people! 4. There are quite a lot of old streets in Macau which somehow look identical to the ones in Portugal as those areas were built by the Portuguese. And what's so unique about Macau is that you can easily find a Chinese temple sitting somewhere nearby a church, or a Chinese style building near a Portuguese one. I hope you did enjoy your trip!
You are right lol! She has missed almost 99% of the best parts of Macau! And the part where they were following the google map and walking on somewhere which is not even for walking is so funny haha (14:57 in the video). @@icebaby6714
For those who dont know, Macau surpassed Las Vegas as the biggest gambling centre in the world in 2009 and in 2013 Macau made $45 billion in gambling revenue dwarfing Las Vegas' only $6.5 billion.
I don't believe that Vegas only stRIPS people off for $6,500,000,000USD, but I do buy the fact that perhaps that's all casinos CLAIM for taxable revenue. USA doesn't have death penalty for capitalist scum, for that no one does it quite like China, the only country where the rich literally schedule their own date for an organ transplant since they don't 3d print organs yet just use your imagination... Back to the tourism industries they should be taken into account in the entirety of income as a whole as that should be analysed as it's a better representation of local economic impact.
7:25 the right flag is Chinese National Flag and the left one is Macau Special Administrative Region Flag. While Hongkong SAR flag is different, it's red
lol.... HK doesn't need too much planning but Macau actually does. Macau is divided into a few islands. Without any sort of transportation, you will only catch a glimpse of the place. I'm glad you decided to take a bus at the end.
the egg tart you’ve tried was probably a bad one😂 Macau is quite famous for its “portuguese” tarts, which is a sweeter version of regular chinese egg tart, more custardy, with some burns on top and a crispy tart base. It’s not the same as the original Portuguese tart, but it’s worth a try! Hope you’ll revisit this small city again, cause there’s definitely more to explore! ❤
There’s a lot of other places you might like to visit…. like Chengdu and see pandas and Sanya, which is a resort island in China, aka the Hawaii of China. But be warned, it’s expensive. Atlantis Hotel has rooms that looks into a massive fish tank so in the middle of the night, you can have any number of marine animals swimming past your windows, but those are costly at over $8,000 USD a night. Also, Las Vegas isn’t that packed most of the year either. Streets are usually emptied as most would be staying by the pool in their home resort because it gets too hot in the desert during the summers. And just like Vegas, most of the shops and restaurants are inside the hotels and casinos, not on the streets.
The streets was not busy at Casino strip is because you were walking during the dinner hours where people were having dinners indoor. Also, all the Casinos have nice aircon, shops and eatery so most people are surely indoor.
Most people go to Macau specifically to gamble, so as soon as they get off the ferry or port, they take the casino's free bus directly to the casino. Compared with other cities in China, there are really not many pedestrians on the street. If you enter one of the casinos you will see a lot of people
Welcome to Macau. There's probably a lot of construction going on because of the 70th Macau Gran Prix happening next month. If you came to Macau next month, it would've been packed with Paris. I see you visited the local residential area as well, which is very rare. Hope you had a great time.
The essence of Macau is inside of these luxury hotels and casinos, everyone could go inside and visit even if u don't stay in there. The scale of the interiors are crazy, so absolutely go inside of each hotels. They got small Venice, manmade beach, ferris wheel on 31st floor, and building high fish tanks.....so much to see, and each hotel has their own unique, I got amazed everytime.
When we were there during the Chinese mid-autumn festival which just passed last month, it was PACKED! The buses and streets were packed like sardines especially the street that leads up to the St Paul Ruins. So our experience was quite the opposite 😂
I had to laugh at your comments about crowds in Macau. Macau is one of the busiest places I've ever been. The place you want to go if you want to feel like a sardine. You got lucky, it wasn't busy when you were there. It has one of the highest population densities in the world and this coming from a guy who lived in Hong Kong. That jerky is amazing, I alway buy tonnes when I'm there. You should also try Portuguese Chicken, a fusion Chinese/Portuguese curry dish.
I just finished watching the video of you guys visiting Shanghai. And I’m so happy to see that you have visited my hometown Macau as well. Like many have already said in the comments, Macau is a rly special city which combined both Portuguese and Chinese cultures. Hope you liked it here.

Macau has much more to offer. Come back again soon and explore the city and the food. ❤ And a side note, we use credit cards a lot but usually in bigger stores or restaurants. Small eateries don’t usually accept credit cards because of the charge they have to pay the bank or credit card company. Some stores also limit the use of credit cards for purchase above a certain amount, like MOP 200. So prepare some cash and you can use HKD but the stores will use a 1:1 rate. Hope to see your videos about Macau again! 😊
Josie I think 1 day is not enough to explore the whole Macau. You should have spend at least 2 entire days. Actually, Macau have lots of stuffs to offer and if you love eating, tons of different food to choose. Soon we will be hosting the international food festival and the Macau Grand Prix. AnywayI hope next time you could revisit Macau again. Have a great day, stay safe and have fun wherever you both are. Cheers from Macau 🇲🇴

The cobble stone pavement with black lines is typical Portuguese style. You can find them in Portugal and Brazil. I was told that the Portuguese used these black and white cobble stones and exchanged the semi-precious stones from Brazil hundred years ago.
One thing I regret in Macau is that I didn't spend a longer days there. Macau is so fun! Outside the casinos, Senado Square, and St. Paul ruins, Macau is a pretty, calm, and charming city.
A travelling tip in Macau. There are many free casino shuttle buses from the ferry terminal to the casinos and they run in every 15 minutes. The last time we were there, we took the one to Sand Lisboa and walked to the Ruins of St Paul's. After that we took the same bus back to the ferry terminal and changed to the one to the casinos in Taipa. At night we took the same bus to the ferry terminal to catch the ferry back to HK. :)

It's really common to see Chinese drying their clothes by just hanging them on their balconies or roofs. They believe that hanging in the air is better than using dryers.
That’s similar to Australia, we hang our clothes outside too mostly, only really using a dryer if it’s been raining a lot and even then we will hang the clothes inside if we can ☺️
I believe octopus does support overdraft of up to 50 hkd as long as your balance is still positive. It’s a nice feature when you really need to make a small purchase and you ran out of balance. When you add money to your octopus again it will fill the overdraft first.
Macau was a Portuguese colony for nearly 500 years. It was not returned to China until 1999. At that time, the Chinese emperor granted the Portuguese a piece of land near the sea for the purpose of stocking goods and supplies. In the past, before China was invaded by Mongolia, Cantonese was actually the official language of China from the Qin Dynasty to the Southern Song Dynasty.
I spent 3 full days in Macau in 2012, visiting from Australia. Here's what I noticed: - A lot more Mandarin spoken, compared with Hong Kong. The whole place was bursting at the seams with Mainland Chinese tourists, speaking both Cantonese and Mandarin. Most of those street jerky sellers just turn their backs on any non-Asian tourists approaching for a sample. It seems like the whole place is focused on milking as much money as possible out of Mainland tourists. Seems like nobody wants anything to do with tourists of European appearance. - I noticed what Josie noticed too, so much signage in Traditional Chinese at the top, then Portuguese underneath but no English. Luckily I could understand 75% of the Portuguese signage, knowing Italian and having studied Spanish. - Nobody speaks Portuguese from what I saw. There seemed to be some Portuguese-speaking business people around, speaking Portuguese amongst themselves, most likely on business trips coming from the Lusophone world. Security guards, police, retail and hospitality staff all seemed to know enough English. I wondered if they ever have issues with tourists trying to speak to them in Portuguese. To me it felt they would absolutely need to know Mandarin, because the whole place was awash with Mainland tourists. - The colonial architecture, Portuguese-style pavement is beautiful. - The coolest moment was when I took a bus down to Coloane Village, went to the famous Lord Stow's Bakery and sat on the foreshore. You can see over the water to Mainland China, you can see apartment buildings and cars driving on the wrong side of the road. It was so cool to just look over the water and see people going about their lives in Mainland China.
Hello, I would like to explain why they use bamboo to build houses. Because Hong Kong and Macau have strong typhoons during most of the season. If the fences are built with steel bars or other stronger materials, they can be easily blown down. However, bamboo has the characteristics of high toughness, high strength, and easy portability, so it is used in many construction places in Hong Kong and Macau.
you can always catch one of the hotel shuttles from the ferry terminal (these are free and you don’t have to have reservations) to get downtown, unless you want the walk
It does look like Lisbon where I also travelled to, some old Portuguese who lived in Macau moved back to Lisbon who tried to catch up with us on the street in Cantonese which is also the language spoken in Macau. Macau preserves the old colonial buildings much better than HK though. And they've done pretty good job of introducing their past history to tourists too.
Last time I was in Hong Kong and Macau was in 2008 we visited the ruins too but when we were there they had a scaffolding pathway where we could walk across the top on the ruins looks like they have put a stop to that. I loved my visit there and glad you guys are enjoying it too and yes I am still watching!!!!!
No way that was so long ago!! I wish I saw the the place in the past so I could see the differences in places now. Jackie you are an OG! Love seeing you in my comments 😂😁
Macau is usually packed with tourists from HK during weekends, and Macau people tend to go to Mainland China for entertainment on weekends and even weekdays 'cos things are comparatively cheaper than Macau.
I understand it was a short visit , But you missed showing people some of the highlights of Macau, Many more people on weekends and Chinese holidays, The grand lisbo looks amazing at night,
Yes, the main island in Macao looks very similar to Lisbon, from the streets to the hills, to churches and even the buildings painted in yellow; it looks a bit cleaner than Lisbon though. That casinos strip looks like a cleaner&safer version of Vegas.
Those Macau pork chop roles are one the best things I have ever ate, Micheal knows his sheeet! And be careful with the Macau money, from what I recall you can't use it back in Hong Kong (if I am not wrong).

nice to see you coming to Hong Kong and Macau. It would be nice to go into the casinos to visit even if you don't gamble because there are lots of things to see inside.

Macau people here, you saw a lot of fences because of the grand prix 70th anniversary, and i appreciate that you walked through not just the casinos but also the residential area all the way to Ruins of St. Paul. And also taking a bus in Macau is just 3 MOP(appro. 40 cents US), that's freaking cheap. Last but not least, Macau always welcome and next time you can go try some Macanese food i guess.
Macau has 64 casinos and is the biggest casinos in the world. Macau has lot of good foods to offer, and tourist can get free ride from port to city and back. Many free buses picking up tourist from port straight to casinos.
notice you pick the triangular shaped wrapped sushi without checking the fillings? Are you not aware they have different flllings? To my knowledge , Toast box originated from singapore n expanded its business operations overseas.
Yeah, it looks another Lisbon in the world. HK dollars and Chinese Yuan are accepted in Macau, and there are free shuttle buses between casinos in Macau Peninsula and Taipa&Cotai Island under the same group.
You decided to wing it and you were a bit lost, but you were off the beaten track on a number of occasions and they were interesting. 👏🏻 In fact, before you got to the ruins, you reminded me of a scene in the recent Korean TV series 'Moving' in which the character Jang Joo Won - who has an awful sense of direction - trying to stumble home by using a church as his reference (like a rat in a maze). 😂 In the future, you might want to consider asking your subscribers for hints & tips BEFORE visiting a place. You still get to plan your own itinerary, or decide to wing it, but it would probably save you some walking & provide some alternatives if your primary targets were not available for whatever reason 😅

"cars driving on the wrong side of the road" ...?
@@peekaboopeekaboo1165 Yes, Mainland China is RHT, Macau is LHT.

Funny 😏
It’s so true that Macau and HK are overwhelmed by Chinese tourist
Awesome timing seeing this 😆 we are literally leaving to catch the ferry to Macau in an hour from now ❤❤
Have fun! ☺️
It is very delightful watching your vlogs. Welcome to Hong kong and Macau! ❤
Great video. Very relaxed. What do you like better, modern and fast paced or a old country atmosphere?
you can always catch one of
the hotel shuttles from
the ferry terminal (these are free and you don’t have to have reservations) to get downtown, unless you want the walk
It's nice that you visited my country 🇲🇴 hope you enjoyed 😉
Last time I was in Hong Kong and Macau was in 2008 we visited the ruins too but when we were there they had a scaffolding pathway where we could walk across the top on the ruins looks like they have put a stop to that. I loved my visit there and glad you guys are enjoying it too and yes I am still watching!!!!!
No way that was so long ago!! I wish I saw the the place in the past so I could see the differences in places now. Jackie you are an OG! Love seeing you in my comments 😂😁
oh my, didnt believe you'd really come to macau, welcome!
Macau is usually packed with tourists from HK during weekends, and Macau people tend to go to Mainland China for entertainment on weekends and even weekdays 'cos things are comparatively cheaper than Macau.
下次有时间去哈尔滨吧,冬天最适合了。哈尔滨每年冬天会建了一个冰雪城堡!来北方,我们北方饭菜量大便宜
I understand it was a short visit , But you missed showing people some of the highlights of Macau, Many more people on weekends and Chinese holidays, The grand lisbo looks amazing at night,
Yes, the main island in Macao looks very similar to Lisbon, from the streets to the hills, to churches and even the buildings painted in yellow; it looks a bit cleaner than Lisbon though. That casinos strip looks like a cleaner&safer version of Vegas.
you can go to Macau from hk by bus through the longest crossing sea bridge in the world(hk-macau-zhuhai bridge). more cheaper.
@TxMis_josieliftsthings ?
Those Macau pork chop roles are one the best things I have ever ate, Micheal knows his sheeet! And be careful with the Macau money, from what I recall you can't use it back in Hong Kong (if I am not wrong).
Welcome to Macau! I’m in Macau right now.
U could go Macau from Kowloon side 中港城 China Hong Kong City, closed to Jordan station.
HK coins and papaer could be used as money of exchange while u re in Macau except coin 10 hk dollars.
Thank you that's very helpful info... can you use octopus card on the bus or cash?
The ferry service has been suspended between Kowloon and Macau until further notice since the Pandemics!!!
The tree with hanging branches you see is called a banyan tree. There are many such trees in Fuzhou City, Fujian Province.
Australia Gold Coast also had so many casinos too !
Custard tart have a lot cinnamon sugar powder. Portugues tart taste pure sweet, with burnt sugar on top.
Hey! Watching this on Oct 17th, 1 year later! Nice!
I miss Macau, everything's chill there
@20:00. Back in the war day, actually, it had a big fire burn down the building.
The inside of the casinos are all different each with their own themes and styles, you really missed out on seeing them all.
I personally don’t agree that I missed out on anything, I don’t enjoy seeing those things haha
@@josieliftsthingsAs I have noticed, you aren’t very good at taking criticism, are you? Accept it. Love it. Be thankful for it. Helps you to become a better balanced person.
@@ThomasMcCarthy-m3j Disagreeing with someone and telling them my personal preferences isn’t not taking criticism, sounds like you can’t comprehend the difference. 😊
@@josieliftsthingsYou seem to be missing the point. People have been suggesting to visit sites that you missed. But you always respond with a lot of snark. For someone who advocates being kind and nice in your videos, you don’t carry through with these virtues in your responses. LMAO
@@ThomasMcCarthy-m3j You seem to be the one missing the point. I don’t want to have seen anything else. Again, disagreeing or not wanting to do something in my own video is not being snarky. And again, it doesn’t seem like you are very competent at comprehension.
For someone who wants me to ‘be kind’ so bad, you aren’t great at practicing what you preach, Thomas. ☺️
nice to see you coming to Hong Kong and Macau. It would be nice to go into the casinos to visit even if you don't gamble because there are lots of things to see inside.
Welcome to Macau 🇲🇴☺️ visa / master can be accept in restaurants / hotels . We use e-payment (lots payment channels in Macau ) on the small payment. And HKD 1:1 as MOP in Macau 😂
Been following you since your trip to HK. Wish you enjoyed yourself here! PS: you don't need to open the Apple Wallet to tap on the machine. Just tap it with your locked phone and it should work just fine.
Wooo thank you for watching! I totally did, it was such a beautiful little spot! Thanks for watching my adventure, good tip!! 😁😁😂😂
Much love to Macau 🇲🇴❤️❤️❤️❤️
just let you know that you can catch a FREE shuttle bus from terminal to whatever hotel. You can explore the hotels and the area by walking around.
you went to my favourite coffee shop in Macau. TRIANGLE near the ruins. in my view best in Macau. greetings from HK. great video. love Macau.
notice you pick the triangular shaped wrapped sushi without checking the fillings? Are you not aware they have different flllings? To my knowledge , Toast box originated from singapore n expanded its business operations overseas.
Early this year I was in Macau and Hongkong back and forth for 2 months and I love the travel on the MAcau HK bridge..beer is the cheapest in Macau.
That wry smile from Josie as she unwraps the sushi correctly haha
Macau's pork jerky are my favourite, I will definitely get tons of those next time I go there.
Yeah, it looks another Lisbon in the world. HK dollars and Chinese Yuan are accepted in Macau, and there are free shuttle buses between casinos in Macau Peninsula and Taipa&Cotai Island under the same group.
There are buses AND FREE shuttle buses to different hotels so even for ppl without itinerary I highly doubt they will do it on foot!
You decided to wing it and you were a bit lost, but you were off the beaten track on a number of occasions and they were interesting. 👏🏻
In fact, before you got to the ruins, you reminded me of a scene in the recent Korean TV series 'Moving' in which the character Jang Joo Won - who has an awful sense of direction - trying to stumble home by using a church as his reference (like a rat in a maze). 😂
In the future, you might want to consider asking your subscribers for hints & tips BEFORE visiting a place. You still get to plan your own itinerary, or decide to wing it, but it would probably save you some walking & provide some alternatives if your primary targets were not available for whatever reason 😅
Previously Macau was actually referred to as Monte Carlos of the East. When it is returned to China, the people from China are referring to Macau as the Las Vegas of the East.
Cool vid! I didn't know anything about Macau. Yes Michael, that area did look like Newcastle East!
China is so cool❤

Watching from Newcastle with ❤❤ 12:07 yes it's pretty hilly in the city
Love seeing fellow novocastrians in the comments! ❤️
Of course it’s not busy on the streets in the casino area, casinos has their massive shopping, eating areas attached underground. They have shopping pathways going from one casino to the other. Moreover they have their own free shuttle buses going to the piers and to other casinos very often. Tourists take those buses to different casinos and to other parts of Macau.
Thanks! I am from Macau
Macau is my fav city in China, from history to views, and everyone is so friendly!!
Hi, I come from Macau now living in Canada, unfortunately you guys can’t found the good real local food. Macau is an amazing city, the people and culture❤
Cool video loved this, any more to come from Hong Kong really enjoyed that too. Btw what camera setup do you use. Quality is great
I love your videos. I was wondering how you do the camera. I assume there's a third person filming. Interested in knowing that sort of thing.
Omg Michael looks like Aron Finch😮
You ate the egg tart that is not real traditional egg tart in Hong Kong, which is Portuguese tart too. And than the shop is foreign style, just open 2-3 years.
Love your channel❤
Thank you so much!!
amazing vlog ...but im so curious about ur step count ...cuz guys kept walking in whole vlog lol..
It was INSANE that day. I think it was over 30,000 😂😂😂😂
I'm a little surprised if you haven't tried eating dry meat jerkies before. They are a must buy gift all over in Macau, beef, and pork in various taste.
Hello from a fellow Aussie who's from Macau ❤
Hello there! ☺️
