  • China is currently the world's most populous country. They have a rich history marked by influential dynasties and the establishment of the People's Republic of China in 1949. Under the governance of the Chinese Communist Party, China has become the second-largest global economy, characterized by rapid industrialization and urbanization. Together with @worldnomac & @GoWithAli , we embark on a journey to explore streets of Shanghai! Join us as we navigate through the vibrant neighborhoods, taste authentic local Chinese dishes, and get immersed in the unique culture. We also dive in on how China's heavy censorship and constant surveillance affects its citizens.

How could you shamelessly drag other country name in a place where your own country already occupies it? Also, your stats about the Muslim countries views on China, are not true at all, a vast majority of the Muslim countries were in favour of China, the votes in UN from the Muslim countries on alleging of possibly commited crime against humanity for it's treatment on Uygur Muslim ethnic citizens in China has prove it.

We moved from the UK to China six years ago. Never looked back. Honestly the Western rhetoric is pure propaganda and hardly reflects the reality here. It is safe, amazing living standards, technologically advanced and for once, a government that actually cares about society at large. They literally send officials to the poorest rural areas to get them out of poverty. They have to live with them and stay there until the job is done. High speed trains run at a near loss because the government wants to ensure there is cheap travel accessible to everyone. Access to healthcare is very cheap and of a high quality.

Let me share with you my encountered with a young American couple in Thailand recently. They have flown from US to Singapore and they were traveling from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and then to Cambodia and Vietnam and before going back to US.
We have happened to have a casual friendly conversation and I have asked them since they are so near to China, why not go to China just for a few days to see China. I told them China is very interesting. But I was surprised of what they told me.
They said according to all their media reports in US and advice by their government and many other people. They were advice and told not to travel to China. Even their parents don't allow them to go to China. They were told China is not a safe country to travel. Very dirty, poor rundown infrastructures, poor transportation system, polluted, homeless people are everywhere waiting to rob tourists are common even in broad daylight. Chances of been detained for no reason by the Communist government is very high. Because China is an authoritarian state and all foreign visitors are monitored by thousands of cameras everywhere and every minute where foreign visitors go. Foreign visitors from western countries can be detained for months or even years for no reason.
All these is what they know about China. The couple is like below 25 years of age and already so badly brainwashed by their government and controlled media. This is really sad to hear this is how U$ government educates the young people. What kind of future all these young people will ended up with?

My wife is Chinese, and I’ve been to China many times. I’ve always felt very relaxed.
My wife is happy with the cameras, they have cut down crime in a big way. Pick pockets were a major problem, this has been reduced massively.
We in the U.K. have far more street cameras than many people realise. We have number plate and face recognition cameras.
The thing that always makes me laugh on these types of vids is that if you appear to think or say that China is ok, you are instantly a Chinese Bot. So much BS.

All you can do is speak to the app and the translation apps translate for you in local language. If you see the Chinese signage that you don’t understand, you can use the translation apps pointing the camera at the signage, the apps will translate back to you in English. Been living in China for about 9 years, I had reservations and negative ideas about China before stepping foot in the country (possibly due to the negative portrayal from western media). I can say that China is now my home, recently went back to the UK and was bewildered how unorganised it was. I guess I took the ease of living in China for granted. I hope that many more people like Harry can visit China before listening to the media and having the neagtive preconception. Of course there are things that happen here that are beyond my understanding, but who am I to judge. Before I was born, the UK was barbaric in the colonisation of various countries. People think they brainwash their citizens here, that can't be far from the truth. People go day to day with next to no problems with crime etc. In a nutshell, I could not be more happier with living in China, the people are friendly, the transportation is next level and the food is amazing.
What a great video Harry, so stoked to see you have visited China, hope you enjoyed your time in Shanghai. Shanghai is amazing (love it here) 我爱中国

Yes, there are many security cameras in China, but the majority of Chinese people don't associate it with the lack of privacy. They will think it is safe to walk on the street. In addition, what privacy do people need when they walk on the street? As long as you did do anything against the law, you don’t have to worry about the cameras surrounding you. Harry, thanks for this nice, friendly video about Shanghai and China. What the policeman said to the live-streaming singer dude was "Don't sing so loud; you can sing more quietly to yourself." because the place is the famous Bund of Shanghai, a public place and a huge tourist attraction, the policeman was trying to keep the place in a good shape for tourists and pedestrians. Your competitor at the marriage market in the park was pointing you to a "overseas corner" where you would be extremely popular, but you didn't get the message due to language barriers. Also the senior rejecting you were saying "No camera; don't film me", he wasn't saying "get out of my hair". Your mandarine isn't the best, so there are some very funny miscommunication. You must have learned somewhere that Chinese people greet each other by asking "have you eaten?", which was once true but generally outdated these days, and you sound more like "are you wet yet?" when you actually greet people, that's why people were so confused by your greeting.

I am from Sweden. In 2019, I went to China for a business trip because of my work. At the beginning, I was very resistant, because our media always reported negative news about China, and I felt anxious about my personal safety. There are women walking in parks and streets late at night, I was surprised, there are so few thieves and vagrants in China, I can't even see them. The only negative impression is that their English penetration rate is low and communication barriers are a big problem. They have a fast pace of life and spend most of their time working and very little time enjoying life, which is very similar to Tokyo, Japan. Maybe that's why China is rising so fast.

As for the cameras, the first place you visit, 外滩, is the most popular tourist place in Shanghai. During some festivals it could be crazily crowded, hence there are more cameras in case of theft or other events (also because it's a wide open space and there's no where else but poles to place cameras to cover enough angles) On the street there aren't that many.
And the other camera at 15:01 is a monitor to warn the passanger to not jay walking. It's one of the most crowded areas in Shanghai in the rush hour jay walking could significantly slow down traffic.

He was trying to show off his language skills, and he was kind of assertive, but in a good way. Regarding the police presence here and there-if you're in downtown SF or LA, you couldn't tell which has more cops, even though there's a lot of car break-ins and thefts happening. I would suggest learning some basic Chinese before go visit China.

At around 7:00 a cop intervened the life-streamer snging. The cop did not ask him to stop, but only said" Please do not make it so loud, make it only loud enough for yourself to hear." In other words, the policeman meant politely that you are not singing, you are only making noise.

Railway stations in major cities in China usually have dozens of platforms and dozens of "boarding gates". Compared with them, train stations in other countries in the world are like small warehouses.

The police is there for people’s safety and needs (everything like directions, finding dogs, holding kids), especially in tourist areas with crowds, safety is a main concern. They’re not there to control or censor people unless you are the crime. (At the bund when the dude singing and live streaming with loud speakers, the one in uniform came to asked him to lower down not bothering others)

I married into a Chinese family. I wouldn't call myself fluent but I know enough Mandarin to get by and despite this my wife's family have been so unblievably welcoming. From her grandparents, to aunties and uncles and even her cousins they just all radiate the same unfilted joy whenever we go to see them. The Chinese can be lovely people once you get admitted to their inner circle!
These days we settled in Hong Kong which to me has the best of both worlds, especially when it comes to forging a career. I love visting Mainland China but unless you really want to immerse yourself in the language and culture (which I did for a time) the country is probably at its best when enjoyed in short bursts. That's my opinion from the past 12 years here anyway

7:00 The man you saw singing there is live broadcasting and the Security Officer was telling him not to sing there because his voice was too loud, so I guess there was a Volume Restrictions sort of regulation...btw officers like that are actually not policemen, just officers to offer help for people whoever need help🤣What's interesting is that I myself as Chinese have never known or seen a Marriage Market before until I watch this video😅Thank you so much for showing this lol...And the cameras...I found that almost all TH-camrs vising Shanghai talk about the cameras, bus as a local I didn't really notice them, I personally don't mind since they help keep our safety and influence nothing in my life , I mean these videos will be deleted after 12 or 24 hours like a driving recorder and no one's gonna waste time spying on me right?🤣Hope you have a nice trip in China!
