Windy Fishing, Being Recognised, and the Mighty Mackerel

  • Sea fishing at Shoreham harbour east arm catching mackerel.
    Caught the remnants of a storm with very strong south westerly winds. could not fish anywhere else so went to Shoreham as we could cast away from the wind.
    Got to try my new penn surf rods paired with new Penn reels
    Fished the incoming tide using frozen bait with large pennel rigs and fish cocktails hoping for something bigger.
    Andy had a few bites but no fish and I resorted to feathering to catch a few mackerel for the barbecue.
    Met some great people and was really happy for Charlie and Ben who both caught some nice fish and put Andy and I to shame.
    Had a brilliant day in the sun which is what it's all about.

    Hi Paul if you are on the east arm at Shoreham again and catch a small joey mackerel take one of you rods with a single flowing trace and live bait it with two big hooks, go down to the bay between the small arm and the east arm and chuck it out into the middle. Right time of tide on the flood ,hopefully quiet, should be a bass waiting for you around 8/10 lbs on the right day !

    • @SeaFishingWithPaul
      @SeaFishingWithPaul  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for that invaluable advice and will have a go never ever caught a bass any bigger than 3lbs.

    Well done on the mackeral mate , I've never caught them myself , I do like eating them though . Glad you're happy with the rods, I was well chuffed when I got mine , a pal I fish with who has century rods, Zipplex and Daiwas was so impressed he went and got one himself too. I've had my 1st of 3 Thornbacks on them , a pb bass and a couple of Smoothhound , they handled them really well. Me and my brother fished Whitstable last weekend , a bit last minute, I had 2 hounds on raw whole prawn from Iceland and my brother had 3 , posted pics on my Instagram, I was over the moon . As always I look forward to the next vid , all the best and be lucky 👍🎣

    Always enjoy your videos Paul, especially now following an operation on my arm and subsequent stitches means that I’m unable to go fishing for at least 6 weeks making your and others videos the nearest thing to getting on the beach I will get for a while.
    May I respectfully suggest that you take a leaf out of RodsAngle’s book and concentrate on your terminal tackle and bait rather than the colour of your rod and reel, it may produce better results….. A bit harsh! Very jealous!

      Can I ask why you use a 15ft rod?

    • @SeaFishingWithPaul
      @SeaFishingWithPaul  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@michaelsellers9123 Hi Michael took advice from Anglers Den in Eastbourne who said that switching from 13 ft beach rods to a continental system would give more distance.
      These rods are set up for multipliers and whether it works or not I have got used to using that length over the last several years.
      Do not know whether this is the case or not and mayo should visit the local field I use to practice in and take two rods one 13ft and one 15ft matched with the same reels to compare distances.
      Cheers 😃🐠👍

    I don’t know. Why but the big bass always seem to hunt in pairs. You might see two of them going for the mackerel then the second one trying to knock the hooked one off the hook. That’s happened to me there and I lost that fish. Ideally you should be fishing very early morning about 5 o’clock but I’ve seen them caught the same way on the west arm between the old wooden pier and the arm at mid morning on a sunny day !long time ago tho.
