Hope you are all well ladies and gents, back to some lists for ya finally!. Hope you really enjoy this video as much as we did making it! All the best, Juan.
Nice list, I'm a big shoot em up player. My favourites are, in no particular order.... Rolling Gunner Crysis Wing Mushihemesama Shikhondo Crimson Clover Pre-Historic Ilse 2
Death Smiles belongs up there too. I'm also a fan of Akai Katana Shin. I'm not a big Cotton fan, but with as many games as they released on Switch, you'd think at least one would make the list.
Akai Katana is my next one to buy. I actually am spreading the love on both my Switch and PS5. I just bought both of the Psikyo collections,I got the PS4 versions of those. I really love Shooters or Shmups, been a huge fan of them since the 90's.
Death Smiles is one of my least played shumps. Despite looking nice and having multiple player characters both games in the collection just felt really generic and bland. The only one I like less is the R-Type remake.
This whole list is phenomenal only game i don't have yet is Black Bird and my pick on this list would be Drainus hands down the game still blows my mind Sophstar at a very close 2nd i dont have Ray Z Arcade Chronology but i do have Raystorm/Raycrisis HD since i have Layer Section Galactic Attack Saturn Tribute amazing shoot em ups especially Raycrisis
@@SwitchWatch I was very happy to see alot of your picks on the list. I went to a arcade we have here about a year or two ago that was converted from a old mall. And they had Radiant Silver gun!!! I was so hyped and played it because I never got to own that one. I now can hahaha 😁
I love this, and have most of the games on your list. But for me, Sky Force Reloaded is the one I always end up going back to. I'm not sure why - that game just sucks me in. The graphics are great, there's decent replay value, a variety of ships/weapons... everything I could want in a shmup. My second favorite is probably Steredenn, just because it's so different from most others in the genre. Good stuff all around, though, to be sure.
Finally have all of these on my switch except Rayz Arcade Chronology i have Raystorm/Raycrisis HD and Rayforce Saturn Tribute so pretty much have all of these gems
Drainus is really an incredible game. I really hope it gets a sequel because it was the most fun I’ve had with a shmup bar none, and it’s a pretty long game too with lots to experience.
Just wish Jamestown+ got a physical release from somewhere else. Otherwise if I had to add, I'm sure others have as well but Mushihimesama, Deathsmiles, Crimson Clover, Psyvariar Delta, Ghost Blade HD and I'm going to include Falconeer because I loved it 😁
@@SwitchWatch 100% agree. I can imagine that balancing a game properly around both single player and co-op is not the easiest thing, so kudos to the developers that get it right.
What, no Vasara Collection? They're not incredible games, but they're certainly cheap! I think I scored the collection for two bucks in a sale. (I'm just glad you didn't choose Freedom Finger. That game exists solely to be obnoxious.)
6:38 You had a friend with a Neo Geo? Every boy's fantasy back then. You guys were 18, so what he saved or his parents got it for him? Seeing all these games on today's consoles for cheap and stored on a Micro SD card (not an arcade PCB) blows my 80's kid mind, whereas maybe younger players today don't realise how expensive and out of reach games like this were in their day.
I feel Darius Burst is a touch better than G-Darius as the difficulty doesn't ramp up so fast. G-Darius to me is Stage1-2 easy Stage.3 medium Stage 4 very hard Stage 5 keep reloading your credits Plus you get a bunch of ships to choose from for a bit of added variety, but you do lose the awesome capture ball mechanic which is a major downside. But both games would be on my list so including either is a good shout, other Darius games are awful and would likely miss out on a top 100 list.
Keep trying! It’s more important to get the switching right that the shooting, I’d say. If you do choose to try again, there are some great videos out there, including an incredible 2-player TAS run where the computer tries to maximize score in a way no human could. It’s beautiful to watch. It’s effectively a puzzle game, so you can learn particular trouble sections. Don’t give up!

What are the songs in the video?? :0 I really love synthwave music :D
Nice list, I'm a big shoot em up player.

Rolling Gunner
Crysis Wing
Mushihemesama
Shikhondo
Crimson Clover
Pre-Historic Ilse 2
Great list!

Fair comment buddy
Death Smiles is one of my least played shumps.
Despite looking nice and having multiple player characters both games in the collection just felt really generic and bland. The only one I like less is the R-Type remake.
Your killing me!!! My backlog is already massive! I fear that I won’t be able to play all of the games in my lifetime…🤣🤣🤣
You and me both! Hehehehe

Agree, agree and Black Bird is bloody phenomenal! Get it asap man 😊
Some other great ones:
- Crimson Clover.
- Super Hidorah.
- Danmaku Unlimited 3.
- Astebreed.
- MechaRitz.
Asterbteed is pretty fun, and I actually find myself replaying it quite often.
Rolling gunner and Thunder Force
would love to see more of the classic, pixelated SHMUPs on here. I enjoyed the background music by the way!
Wow great to see this! My favorite genre, thanks again for these recommendations!
Jeez , 20 years of Ikaruga - takes me back to the days when I was quick enough to be good at it 😂 totally love G-Darius - retro shooting goodness
Bloody hard when I play now!
Drainus and Sol Cresta are two of my favorites on my Switch. I also love the classic Ikaruga
All brilliant mentions!
@@SwitchWatch I was very happy to see alot of your picks on the list. I went to a arcade we have here about a year or two ago that was converted from a old mall. And they had Radiant Silver gun!!! I was so hyped and played it because I never got to own that one. I now can hahaha 😁
I would like a remake of Einhänder, fantastic schmup. Getting the Red Astrea is no easy feat!
Would be nice!

Ooh. Dranius look interesting. I NEED it! 😋
Drainus is so good. I have played and finished that game many many times since I got it over the summer.
Very good indeed!!
@@UpsetN3RD ooh. That's good to know 😊
Drainus is really an incredible game. I really hope it gets a sequel because it was the most fun I’ve had with a shmup bar none, and it’s a pretty long game too with lots to experience.
Thank you for the Shmup content!!!! Does anyone know if there is list of physical shmups somewhere? I want them ALL!!!
Check our Jordans content on our channel. He has loads of.physical videos on shmups
Like Dreamer and Gunvein were a couple of bangers from last yr
Indeed they were, I could make 3 or 4 lists with different shoot em ups
Cool!
Gunbirds seems better with the screen on the side. Unfortunately it’s a bit complicated to turn my projector on the side.
Just wish Jamestown+ got a physical release from somewhere else. Otherwise if I had to add, I'm sure others have as well but Mushihimesama, Deathsmiles, Crimson Clover, Psyvariar Delta, Ghost Blade HD and I'm going to include Falconeer because I loved it 😁
Crimson Clover and Gunvein are worthwhile shmups as well.
i have about half of these physically. just need to get the rest. wish i could get steredenn the physical for the is expensive as heck
The background music to this vid is epic. Great list of games too 😜
Another interesting game: Pawarumi. Merci pour ta vidéo
Excellent selection of shoot em ups 😎👌
Jamestown+ is a wonderful co-op shooter. I played through it with my 6 year old son.
Brilliant game! Love games that are designed for it and not put in as an after thought. Thanks
@@SwitchWatch 100% agree. I can imagine that balancing a game properly around both single player and co-op is not the easiest thing, so kudos to the developers that get it right.
Eschatos!
Its an amazing game even outside the genre.
About all raiden games are on switch too. But maybe they not quite good enough. But 4 is fun when play as the fairy
Great topic and video. I definitely will check some of these out.
I like shmups but not bullet hell. Steredenn looks right up my alley. Thank you.
You're most welcome
Never played any of this genre, any recommendation to start?
Great video, comment for the algorithm.
Thanks my man!!
Mushihimesama and Deathsmiles are probably at the top for me, but I guess the list can’t just be all Cave.
What, no Vasara Collection? They're not incredible games, but they're certainly cheap! I think I scored the collection for two bucks in a sale.
(I'm just glad you didn't choose Freedom Finger. That game exists solely to be obnoxious.)
Got another list with all those on it. So many Shmups these are probably my favourite 15.
What about Same! Same! Same! or Tiger Heli? Maybe they are only available in Japan or?
No ESP. Galuda II ? No Akai Katana Shin ? Deathsmiles ?
Here is hoping for a new Aleste collection with MUSHA in 2024 😊😊😊
Hey great video man, thanks 😊
can’t find ESP in the eshop !!? which store ?

He did! His parents bought as a present but he no longer has it! What a shame!
What's the best one?
Tiger heli i got physical from playasia theyre classics
Cant find esp rade on the eshop...
Same problem here, anyone can help?
Only in japanese eshop
I feel Darius Burst is a touch better than G-Darius as the difficulty doesn't ramp up so fast. G-Darius to me is
Stage1-2 easy
Stage.3 medium
Stage 4 very hard
Stage 5 keep reloading your credits

Ikaruga is impossible to beat!!!!🤣🔥👎🏽 never again!

Why are those shmups not using the whole screen??
It’s a design choice. Full screen shooters tend to be less interesting because there’s just too much empty space.
Amazon link is broken...
Yep it only opens the address as far as the ..., so i think you need to put the whole link or use a mini url generator.
Embarrassing not to have Crimzon Clover and Eschatos on this list.
Both great games! Next time
Nice
I've always hated the phrase "Shmup"
Sounds like a Yiddish insult (!)
I'm not keen either
I always called them Shooters growing up in the 90's and even now I still do
I HUNGER
Pronounced..esperade
Thank you!
@@SwitchWatch Where do you pick this one up? , cant seem to find it in the Eshop?
vasara .strikers 1945 plus in tate mods .
