    Your love for gardening and the work you have put in is so impressive. I grew some collards on my patio this year and they did well, no big problems at all. I’m impressed you encouraged me to plant some beets if it’s not too late.

I mean a black woman who sounds like an Atlanta housewife, girl let me get a drink and a snack!!!! love it! not only that the community needs more of this period! 💯🌱From Perth Western Australia we see you and all the kids getting into it over there. I let three leeks go through the last winter and then go to seed this year. They have gorgeous ball shaped flower clusters of beautiful scented white star shaped flowers. The bees love them and you will get free seed. I love volunteers too. Lovely garden tour!! I love seeing the joy in any gardeners face when they talk about their garden. Cheers!!

I’m now at the community garden area and I have two huge plots. And FULL SUN. I didn’t realize how much the sun affected everything. I love your videos and garden. Thank you for sharing.

    On the Leeks I agree with the "leave them alone" people. The soil needs to be moist (as it does for most plants), but don't allow them to remain soakng wet. They don't like wet feet. Your soil is most important. Give them a dose of Fish Emulsion and see if they get larger you. We've grown them successfully for the last 3 years. The first season they looked as yours do now. (But it was early summer I think.) I hit them with 5-1-1..and lo and behold..they became beautiful The next season and this season I gave them some roughly every 2 to 3 weeks and they were lovely. I need to grow more. I use them up so-o fast.

  • @catiepower3550
    @catiepower3550 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Yes ma’am!! You do not need fancy spaces to grow. I started with three 1’x6’ beds that were only 6” high made from scrap wood and a trellis made from two pallets I got from the trash at Starbucks. I have the metal beds now but I still use scrap. I have my grapes and pumpkins in beds made from scrap pieces of composite decking material. Cardboard from Amazon Christmas deliveries lined my native plant bed. All kitchen scraps make my soil I top my beds with. My greenhouse was originally made with recycled windows. I’ve planted in lined tires. It doesn’t have to be fancy

    In my (limited) experience with fruit trees- peaches seem to have short life span (20-30 years)so mature earlier (3-4 years maybe?), while apple trees tend to have a much longer lifespan so mature later (5-8 years?) … I’m sure that’s also variety dependent, but don’t give up!

    Hey Asia. Watching your lastest on how you started the garden. Glad to know that I'm not the only one annoyed by the pool over there..only if you don't actually use it. 😀 ..If that's true, then I'd like to say that it would be a perfect space for placing some of your herbs. The Parsley, Oregano, Cilantro, and Sage would love it. They will stay healthier and greener once the zone 7B sun hits in July/August. It took me two seasons to realize that before I placed those potted herbs under the Maple tree in our backyard.

    I was struggling today to put up a trellis. It doesn't want to stay arched in the middle. I have kind of a wide area to cover.
    Fruit trees are unpredictable. I have an apple tree that hasn't produced fruit in 15 or 20 years suddenly start producing like crazy over the summer before I had even done anything to it. I had almost given up hope of ever getting anything from it but then it surprised me with more apples than one person could eat!
    My peach tree is another story. I will have to do a soil drench on it soon because the Plum curculio drill holes in my fruit when they reach golf-ball size! I read they hatch larva in the soil near the roots and then come out as mature bugs in Spring or early Summer. I hate those things because Peaches are my favorite fruit!

    Thank you for sharing your garden and the growth of your garden. I like how you have your veggies spread out in different beds. What made you chose cinderblocks for your garden?

    Have you tried Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth in your garden to get rid of pests/worms? It’s supposedly not harmful to humans and animals if dusted on your garden.

      @@YellowDoorUrbanHomestead I just watched a video where someone placed tulle on top of their lettuce and greens and that stopped the moths and butterflies from laying eggs and worms from eating the leaves. You can buy inexpensive tulle from any fabric store.

    Love all your videos! What kind of onions do you grow? We live fairly close to one another I think so wanna do something that will grow well. Have you ever done a short day onion? I accidentally bought one 😢.

    • @YellowDoorUrbanHomestead
      @YellowDoorUrbanHomestead  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you! I’m pretty sure all of my onions are long day. I have mistakenly planted short day onions before. The bulbs were pretty small. The good thing is the greens can be used so I used the whole plant.

      Hi 👋🏾! When I originally planted them I believe I added compost and organic granulated fertilizer. After that I’ve only added soil acidified. I’ve found them to be pretty easy to grow. Good luck and happy growing!!
