    "They do depend upon you for their life." *_Truer words were never spoken._* And it applies to ALL your animals whether 'farm types' or 'pets'! This is also true of your minor children, the elderly or disabled in your household, your spouses & families, your soldiers, employees, etc... Do your best to keep your situation 'tight' so that you AND yours (incl. your animals) are SAFE, FED, NURTURED and CARED FOR! Be blessed!

    I extended my chicken run. The part I extended I covered it with chicken wire. So far, it's working out. You may want to try that. I already had it on hand for something else. Used zip ties and that gave them extra protection. I used to have a hawk come around. But I haven't seen it lately. That wasn't my issue, it was coyotes. Never new about those little devils until I had my first set of chickens. I'm a little sad I can't let them free range like they use to. Your girls look nice and happy. Thanks for sharing.

    Enjoyed your chicken story. I want to get chickens within the next year or 2 once I am totally settled into the house and get the garden to where I want it. I need to research what breeds would be best for our cold Ohio winters and the best way to keep the predators away. So far I know there are groundhogs and raccoons that I am fighting with in the garden. I have also seen eagles, hawks and vultures in the area. We can have up to 4 hens in the city here.

      You could actually build a hooped frame to go over the specific bed and the chickens (1-3) could be confined to the raised bed. They'll eat the worms, greens, bugs left in the bed. Look up garden hoops for an idea!

    @IAMGiftbearer 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Could you provide a link to the coop that you bought? I like that it's wood instead of that ugly plastic stuff that alot are made of these days. You do have some nice-looking chickens and the bedding you're using seems to stay very clean! 6 or 7 is about the same number I want.
    I bet you could cover that top of the run area with 1/2 inch hardware cloth. I've heard from various chicken people that chicken wire doesn't work well keeping predators out. Hardware cloth is more durable. My area is chain link and not as tall as yours so I might have to rig up something that extends the height and then put hardware cloth on top of that.

    how many quails you have? Do they take any different care compared to the chickens?

      I have 5 quail. No not really. They are messy so I have to clean their area more but that’s about it. They don’t roost so that’s one thing you don’t need for them. In my experience the care is about the same. The other thing is you need a low house or a high house. If it’s in between they could hurt themselves. They startle easily and they fly up when that happens.

    Are quails easier vs chickens?

      Ummm I would say yes because you don’t need as much space but they still need the same care. They do eat less but they are messy so you may have to clean more. You don’t have to let them out and close them up daily.
