    I love her!! We are renting a home and this is our 4th year container gardening. We have grown tomatoes, multiple pepper plants, zucchini, cucumbers, strawberries, watermelon, cantaloupe, green beans, snap peas, raspberries, spinach, kale, Swiss chard, onions, chives, lettuce, mustard greens, carrots, and a multitude of flowers for pollinators! It really is possible! I have chosen to use this time in a rental home wisely and learn to grow my own organic food, learn to cook from scratch, can and preserve my food, make
    Sourdough bread from scratch while we wait for our forever home. It’s been good for my soul. My children love it and look forward to it every year as well!

      I’m going to get a few and a really looking forward to growing greens and such… but you said you grew watermelons and cantaloupes? ‘Do you mind sharing how you did that in these?

    • @Kelly_Mae
      @Kelly_Mae 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @@jrs3359 I used 5 gallon buckets. One watermelon plant per 5 gallon bucket. One cantaloupe per 5 gallon bucket. Or any other bucket that can fill with 5 gallons of soil or more. 5 gallons is a minimum for melons. I then bought a cheap trellis and let the canteloupe vines and watermelon vines grow up the trellis. I also successfully used a tomatoe cage for melon vines.
      As the melons grow and become heavy, we used a support like old pantyhose to cradle them, sort of like a tiny hammock.
      I grew smaller sized melon, around 5-6 lbs each.

    I’m a uni. student and rent a veggie patch from the city for a little under $100 a year. Saves me lots of money and I give away veggies to my relative who is over 90 yrs. old, which feels nice to be able to help them out finacially by gifting them veggies. It’s also nice to get in those extra extra visits to them. Seeds is something I save from the crops, so no need to head out and buy them anymore. It just feels so lovely to grow your own food❤

      Sometimes you gotta use your discernment. FOR ME, it's usually pretty clear which folks are a walking commercial and who is genuinely.... well.... you know. Sometimes you can even tell by the *type* of audience a person collects if their price has been met.😏Beyond that, they gotta do what they're paid to do.
      I took Me *ONE* of her videos to know what to expect here (without even having to sit through the whole thing), lol.
      I encourage finding ppl with "UNPRODUCED" vlogs (while you still can), like the original REALPEOPLE videos that BUILT utube. They aren't popular anymore and are deliberately hidden from most searches, but they never uploaded videos for popularity and I predict that they'll soon be the endangered unicorns with everyone becoming "manufactured" and signing up to be owned by sponsors. 🤣🤣🤣🤣And those genuine & unproduced gardeners will likely be the laaaaast sources of REAL information in this era of society.
      BUUUUT in all fairness, if you "love & appreciate" her channel, then My recommendation is not likely for you and I hope you continue to enjoy her content!
      Happy gardening!!

    She is right. It doesn't take a huge yard to grow tons of vegetables. Once you get it going whether in pots or plots, you'll find you are harvesting so much that you have to give some to neighbors, friends, work colleagues and more. If you know how to can, you'll have plenty for the winter months to get you through. And guess what? Gardening is so therapeutic for your mind and soul. For me the minute I put my hands in the soil, I feel at peace. It can't be explained, you just have to experience it. So get to gardening! ♥️♥️♥️♥️

    I love growing vertically and I have a yard. I can grow so much more vertically and leaves the land for fruit trees, berry bushes, a pond, chickens as well as a raised growing bed. By far growing vertically is the way to go if you really want to grow food.

    • @ajb.822
      @ajb.822 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Yeah. I DO encourage folks who are starting out on a small budget, to not worry too much about it tho, if you can't scrounge up much for free or cheap just yet to help you grow vertically. I grew up on, and my grandma raised 8 kids on, gardens with basically NO vertical growing at all ! Tomato cages, and not even great ones, were it ! I DO find lots of benefits to trellising things tho, so, yeah, if u can, try it ! Small sized winter squashes, cucumbers, melons ( cantaloupe), pole beans of all kinds, peas and tomatoes & tomatillas. It CAN be a bit tricky to avoid casting too much shade on nearby crops, so, watch for that, choose wisely ( there's tips on the internet for this topic).

    I bought a Greenstalk for my daughter in law as a starter for her. She, my son & granddaughter moved from CA to PA on July 2nd and she wanted to be able to plant something this year. I gifted her a planted out Greenstalk and it is thriving on her deck. She's already harvested peppers and has a bunch of bush beans just about ready. I was a bit jealous of her Greenstalk so i just ordered 2 for myself to supplement the 2 raised beds I have. Thanks for the inspiration.

    This was so welcome in my feed. I was down the rabbit hole of containers and wanted to set up my garden for this year. As a beginner, dealing with containers and shooting from the hip, I knew I needed more information. One year I'd have everything I needed and a great harvest, and then another I'd have aphids and something else that killed everything...not to mention ground hogs and skunks. I was so discouraged and stopped for a few years. This may be the solution I need. Thank you!!!

So I have decided to grow at home in my small yarden, as I call it (a concreted yard area and a very small garden). I have bought 2 Green Stalk planters (only just been made available to a UK supplier). I have 2 mixed or combo ones. Have yet to set them up, but you have given me a lot of ideas. We are quite limited on what we can get over here, and no flash sales. Hence they are rather expensive in the UK, but I love the idea of them.

    I for one thank you for all the information about the Greenstalk. It was necessary to understand fully how to use it, so I didn't look at it as a commercial, I looked at it as making me totally informed before I consider buying one. Thank you.

    I have had a farmstad vertical hydroponics system for a few years on my deck and I love it. However I’ve been wanting to try a soil system so thanks for your video. I will order a 5 tier today. Your instructions on setting one up are clear and helpful. Thanks again and I love your channel. You are one of my favorite u-tube “celebrities “!

    My dear you had me sold the moment you put everything together.
    I have a deck and plenty of yard space but I’m not a farmer.
    So I just want to use my deck space for planting and be leave the yard for growing melons, cucumbers and potatoes.
    So I can keep my green and yellow vegetables and herb plants within easy reach.
    So thank you for posting this video.😊😊

      Hey lady! Always good to see you! A few years ago, when I initially got my first planter, I told myself I wasn't go to "go crazy" with these planters, but boy do they make growing efficient and space saving. It makes me feel like I already have a small farm out back! I'm so glad you've been here to see my gardening growth over the years. Slowly but surely, I'm getting there! Hope you're having a wonderful growing season too!

      @BecomingaFarmGirl I actually remember you getting your first, and I was totally skeptical even though Jess had success with them. But you having no other options, you have made those stalks absolutely rock! So proud of you, sister!

      @BecomingaFarmGirl I only have a 160x55 garden this year, but it's working! And I'm just about ready for fall gardening, because the older I get, the less I can tolerate the heat to garden in Tennessee summers.

    Every time I watch your gardening videos, I want to order my Greenstalk right away, but I don't have my own home yet, so I can't. I'm waiting patiently to start my vertical garden. Congratulations on your feature in the magazine! I'm learning a lot about gardening from you.

      Hello friend! Honey there is no rush and I encourage you to watch as many other GreenStalk growers on YT so that when the time is right, you'll be on your way to have a successful garden when you start. GreenStalk really surprised me with the magazine feature because I truly am NOT a pro AT ALL :) But, I was happy to see that so many other backyard gardeners were featured too.

    Tell you what, your vertical gardens & plants are amazing & so you! Got to share this with my mom who had stopped planting in-ground veggie gardens due to losing all her crops (and tons of money!) to critters, poor soil and/or lack of rain. I got her to use buckets instead, which is successful & very convenient, but his idea of vertical gardening is genius. Thanks so much for sharing this brilliant idea! God bless you.

    We’re working on moving to a place with some uncovered deck space, which means I can have more space that actually gets light to grow more stuff and I can’t wait to get a green stalk. My plan is to have a few green stalks and a few dwarf fruit trees in pots on rollers.

    I LOVE your Greenstalk vids, thank you so much!
    Btw- that little black cap that comes with the drainage tube, you can use that inside the tiers to block the hole from soil falling thru, works better then using the bag!

    I've wanted a Greenstalk for a few years but wasn't sure I could justify the cost to myself, but I watched this video back in the fall and I ordered one. It was too late up here to bother using it so I can't wait to get it set up and planted for this year!
    I've been watching your videos ever since and, wow, you have certainly ventured into homesteading activities that most people wouldn't/couldn't. It's great you are letting us experience it with you.
