Probably the single only guide that's not a simply a silly showcase of adjustments available and chair features, and cares about connecting these to the ergonomics. Not even HM has a decent one. Congrats.
I skimmed through your video the first time but did not thoroughly go through it step by step. I started feeling real bad lower back pain only when sitting on the embody gaming chair which I have owned for a few weeks now. I adjusted the back several times but the lower back pain would still come back in the course of sitting on the chair for 15 - 20 minutes. Than a online chair website forum recommended going through your video step by step and this fixed my back pain issue instantly! My seat depth was adjusted too deep and was the main cause of the lower back pain. As soon as I adjusted the seat depth to a 3 finger gap and properly followed the steps for arm rest, back fit adjustment & tilt tension the pain went away immediately. The seat depth being to deep was the main cause for my lower back pain. Thank you for this video!
Wow that is great to hear! Can you tell me which website forum recommended my video? I'm curious to see it. YT usually blocks links. Could you please email it to me? Tom@tominationtime dot com
Great video. The only thing I’d add is I saw a setup pdf talking about the backfit being less about tension and more about shape. So the highest tension is a flatter back and the lower tension is more S shaped. So start with it flatter and see if your back is making full contact and if it feels like you’re looking forward. But if your middle isn’t supported and you’re looking down, loosen the tension. And conversely if your shoulders are coming away from the top or you feel like you’re looking upward, increase the tension to flatten it out.
Hey, what tension would you say I should start with if I have a reverse S spine curvaute? As in, I have more of thoracic lordosis and lumbar kyphosis. And do you think this chair would even work with my spine?
Best breakdown of the Embody that I've seen. Thank you! The embody is amazing, but not always intuitive to get right when you first buy it. When you first get the chair, the lumbar feels really strong and so you think that cranking the back support all the way back is a good starting point. However, all that does is take the support off of the rest of your back and so all you're left with is that lumbar poking you in the lower back. You see complaints from customer reviews about the lumbar support rubbing their back and making them sore - They're doing it wrong. The key is to get MORE aggressive with the back support. Like he says in the video, crank it forward and then ease it off until you are comfortable. Allowing the back of the chair to push into the higher parts of your back (thoracic region) is what actually makes the lumber more comfortable. Once your back adjusts to that scenario, is when you start to understand how comfortable this chair is.
This !!! Just got my Embody and even tho the lumbar support is NOT that aggressive compared to the Aeron for example, I can still feel it pushing a bit. I am coming from years of bad posture sitting on junk chairs and now I find it hard to adapt. Will give it time by following the tips in here, hopefully my bulging disk will get better and better by using the Embody chair with the correct settings.😊
@@donVicanio Good luck. I've had mine for about 10 months now and it's the best. My first month, I was questioning all the money I spent on it. Now I treat it like gold.
Thank you for this. I just received a Gaming Embody today, and when I first sat in it, I immediately thought I'd return it due to the lumbar poking my back too harshly. I cranked the back support almost all the way forward, and that issue went away.
Brilliant video! I received my chair from HM this week and I often find instruction videos hard to follow as I had ADHD. This was detailed, but not large volumes of unnecessary information, and I appreciate the step by step close ups. Your speech is a great speed, and your voice isn't flat, nor too accentuated to become distracting. A great factual guide that I really appreciate. Also super important about seeing how you go with the settings over time. I have a rod in my back and awful shoulder issues because of my desk being too high for my 5ft 5inch body, but my previous chair wouldn't go up any higher so I was staining my upper body alot. One thing I'd love to know if anyone could help, is that due to a medical condition causing a buildup of fluid around my abdomen, I am not able to get super close to my desk to get my arm supports close to the desk, and I am having to stretch my arms out in front of me to type. If anyone has any ideas that would be great as I work from home permentely.
Thank you for the kind words and all the detailed feedback! For your arms issues, I have a few thoughts below. You're right in that extending your arms (reaching) is going to cause problems long term. Keeping your elbows by your side would be ideal. -An expensive and flexible keyboard tray could be a solution for you. Is it possible to get a compact keyboard tray in front of you somehow such that your arms are supported and the keyboard tray does not collide with your abdomen? I am not sure without seeing your setup. -An even more expensive and custom setup would be to get your keyboard split into two pieces. Some ergonomic keyboards allow for this such as the Kinesis Freestyle Edge. You could install two keyboard trays on the sides (or cut out a piece of your desk) to create a U-Shape for you to slide into. The abdomen would have a gap in front of it and then your L/R hands would be able to get close to the keyboards so you don't have to reach. -Another note: Your arms technically DON'T need arm rests or arm support. You could potentially go several hours without supports, however this could eventually cause strains elsewhere such as your traps (upper shoulders) feeling fatigued after awhile. So you could try alternating having the arm rests partially support you for an hour, then drop the arm rests for an hour etc. Without seeing your condition, I am not sure if that is an applicable solution, but partial arm support could still be better than nothing.
Great video for guiding through the setup process. I returned one of these chairs last year, but after seeing this video and getting a better understanding of what I did wrong, I bought another and it's so comfortable now! Thanks for the assist :)
Thank you, this was a huge help. I have developed some low back issues and I think they started when I got this new chair and never took the time to properly adjust it. It feels much more supportive now!
I just got my embody chair. I used to perch a lot (since I'm 5'2 never had a chair fits me right). I felt a little lower back ache the first day sitting on it. gonna use your advice to see if I can adapt to the chair and have a better posture (now I figured my keyboard is too high lol). Thanks!
You're welcome! At 5'2", definitely get a foot rest. Also consider a keyboard tray and or a lumbar support pillow just to help "shorten" how long the seat is. That is, short people will benefit from a shorter seat so their thighs can clear the chair. A lumbar pillow may help. Hopefully it works out for you!
Man I've had my embody for like 5-6 months now and never really looked up a detailed guide to understand how to use all of it to fit to my body and my back's still been uncomfortable. Thanks for this vid, I've made some adjustments and they feel better already!
The original manual coming with the chair was.. very to the point, but left more questions than answers. Your video helped answering those questions. Thank you so much.
How do you find it for more "relaxed" tasks like watching a movie? I like that chair but I'm afraid it is too much oriented towards the "correct" posture and doesn't leave any room for "relaxed" positions. The first thing it comes to my mind is the lack of an headrest.
Great video . Thanks! I think this resolved my lower back pain on 1 day old embody. Trick was to have the feet touch the ground flat and not necessarily optimal 90 degree. That worked for me.
To add to that, my personal favorite setup (only for watching videos, not for gaming/working) is recliner set to third (out of four) positions, foot rest, Aloudy arm pads, Atlas headrest - and then I have that floating sensation. For work and gaming I’m usually in first or second lever position.
Just got mine today. Appreciate all the info. The seat depth has always been a struggle for me for any chair. I am coming from the Steelcase Gesture and that chair just did not work out for me unfortunately. First impressions with the embody is that the seat is so much better and I feel supported both on the seat and back way better than the Gesture. Traditional lumbar support systems almost counter act their usefulness for me and glad to see the embody is working out for me so far.
My guy, this should be on their website. The one on the Logitech youtube isn’t that good. This was perfect, thank you! Looking forward to getting used to this beauty.
Hard to put into words how great the Embody chair is, but I can say I no longer need to go to the chiropractor. After a test drive from the Herman Miller dealer, I knew I'd finally found the chair my back needed. Occasionally I have to put in 12+ hours in front of the screen, the Embody makes it safe and comfortable.
Just stumbled across your channel, great to find someone whos both a gamer and into fitness and health like me. Really appreciate the content! Subscribed!
For someone with a "hunchback" and years of slouching, this chair is challenging. Especially the thin padding on the backrest tends to let me feel those fingers poking my lower/mid back. However, what this chair does, it enforces a better posture on me. But after a week, I'm not really sure wether to return it or just stick with it and see if my body adjusts to it. It also encourages me to finally do some excercises for my back. That being said, I'll follow your advice of gradually adjusting the backrest. Thanks for those really valuable tips!

Been using my Embody for 2 years now, today is the day I learned that I was sitting on it the wrong way. I thought the backrest should be in front of me and I need to lean into it. Thanks for the clear instructions!
If your tailbone hurts, probably one of two things. 1) spend less time in it initially, give yourself a few weeks of slowly sitting more often pain-free. 2) your chair height is probably wrong. You might need to go up or down by an inch to spread out the pressure. Consider a foot rest as well depending on your height and your desk

This was a very helpful video, instant like and sub! I bought the Embody after using the Secret Labs Omega for a couple of years. Night and fucking day.
Good review illustrating the WHY of the adjustments instead of just showing HOW to adjust things. I found an Embody while garbage-picking* and had to look up the adjustment instructions and the back curve setting is really confusing. Because spines curve, it seems logical to dial the back back to match the curve, but I immediately had back pain from lack of support. Dialing it forward to a vertical profile actually puts support where its needed and I can sit 2-3 hours (only had it two days) and get up without any back pain. My shoulders & neck are a little achy even though I've got the height and arm rests set properly; I think that's just me - I have a long neck, large head (most adjustable baseball caps don't let out far enough for me), and long hair so there's a lot of weight up there. *Who throws away a $1800+ office chair?!?!? Yeah, the wheels were jacked up with hair & crap and I had to order some rollerblade wheels for $16 from Amazon, but come on. Other than surface cleaning (think they were vapers) and some scuffs, it's mechanically sound and for the best price of FREE! it's awesome. This is after picking a $500 Noble gaming chair a few months ago which was pretty good, but firm and also raises the question of who throws away a $500 chair just because it had a little split in a seam that a quick piece of tape covered over?
Geez, this was such a better video that Herman Miller's official stuff.. Lift the seat extenders up before trying to move them, they didn't say anything about this in their video! The tilt lock, unlock on the back, bottom, left wasn't even in their adjustment instructions!
thanks a lot.... the official manual or video that on their official youtube channel is so confused... purchased this chair for about half year and to be honest most of the time I don't feel comfortable, which turns out that I'm using it in a super wrong way...anyway, really thanks a lot
Probably the single only guide that's not a simply a silly showcase of adjustments available and chair features, and cares about connecting these to the ergonomics. Not even HM has a decent one. Congrats.

Very helpful! Thanks
Another great video. Thank you!
Geez, this was such a better video that Herman Miller's official stuff.. Lift the seat extenders up before trying to move them, they didn't say anything about this in their video! The tilt lock, unlock on the back, bottom, left wasn't even in their adjustment instructions!
thank you for the great information
Appreciate you Tom!
Thank you for the kind words!
Just bought mine today. It’s an investment more than anything. An excellent chair of course, but back problems will cost much, much more.
Awesome video!!!!!
thanks a lot!
