    Owned this chair for about a year. Almost gave it away because the back pain was UNBEARABLE.
    So funny, spending $2,000 on a chair and I did 0 research on how to properly adjust it.
    Safe to say, lesson learned. Back pain is gone. I can now work in peace.
    Thank you so much for making this

    I have such a love-hate relationship with this chair. When I get it, it’s perfect. But even week-to-week I feel like I constantly have to readjust it. I don’t recommend this. For most people, just get an Aeron. My wife has one, and it’s comfortable and painless for me even without any fine-tuning

      @@CrandallOfficeFurniture Thank you. Herman Miller customer support also said its normal. Wish there was a setting to just make the chair stiff. The constant movement really annoys me while gaming because I like to lean forward a lot. Maybe I just need to adjust myself to the chair but I only have 14 days to return it. So I made the choice to return it :(

    @sebascorrea97 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hey! Good content! Can you provide more detail on the BackFit adjustment? I've read that the first week or so of using the chair is uncomfortable because it's forcing good posture on you, so I never known if my BackFit is well adjusted or if it's painful because I have missadjusted it. How should the chair feel?

    • @babybirdhome
      @babybirdhome ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Most people who have issues with back discomfort with the Embody chair are adjusting the back-fit adjustment backwards from how it actually works. If you’re getting lower back pain, normally you would loosen the back adjustment on most chairs to reduce the lumbar pressure a bit and relieve tension on the lower back. With the Embody, it’s the reverse of this. If you’re getting lower back pain, then you want to _tighten_ the back-fit adjustment (turn it “forwards”, or clockwise if you’re facing the side of the chair that it’s on). If your back pain is more in the upper back area, then you’d do the opposite.
      How it works is this: with most other chairs, the back adjustment is pushing a lumbar support pad into your lower back or pulling it away from your lower back when you tighten or loosen the adjustment. With the Embody, that adjustment is tightening or loosening the pixelated back panel instead, since the chair doesn’t actually have any “lumbar support pad”. When the back is loosened, the whole back pad can flex more, so the lower portion remains semi-stiff while the upper portion is allowed to flex backwards more, which has the effect of “adding” more lumbar support to the seat back, while when you tighten the back-fit adjustment, it’s actually pushing the back spine of the chair forward and up, which stretches out the seat back, causing it to flatten, which has the effect of reducing the lumbar support on your lower back.
      If you’re not sure which is more or less comfortable, then try this: when you first sit in it for the day, start out by tightening the back-fit knob as far as it goes - all the way clockwise until it stops. Then try sitting in it and see if you develop any back discomfort. If you do, start loosening it a couple quarter turns at a time until the discomfort goes away - that’s the correct way for most people to adjust it properly. However, if that doesn’t work for you, you might be someone who has a different problem. In that case, when you first sit in it at the start of your day, start out by loosening the knob all the way first (all the way counter-clockwise until it stops) and try that and see if that works better. Then you can start tightening it a couple quarter turns at a time until it’s comfortable for you.
      For most people, the right way to do it is to start with it fully tightened and gradually loosen it until it fits right and stays comfortable for them all day. Most people will experience a lot more pain or discomfort if they start out at the loosest setting, so that’s why you should try it that way last, and try it fully tight first.
      But in either case, it’s best to start out with one or the other adjustment for your first time sitting in it for your day so that you’re not trying to adjust against already built-up discomfort. You want a clean baseline in order to get it dialed in just right as quickly as possible.
      When it’s adjusted correctly, it’s unilkely that you’ll need to “get used to it” at all - it’ll just feel comfortable and you won’t develop any discomfort or pain over the course of a day. Unless you have some specific back issue, there shouldn’t be any “days of getting used to the right posture”. At least not in terms of pain or discomfort. Getting used to _sitting_ with proper posture might take several days, but getting used to the feeling of the chair itself shouldn’t involve any days of discomfort unless you’ve already got residual back pain that you’re already dealing with at the start of your day. If you don’t wake up with back pain, you shouldn’t feel any in your Embody either once it’s adjusted correctly, regardless of how long you’ve been using it. It doens’t have a break-in period or anything. If you’re running into anything like that and you’ve already tried adjusting the chair, then the problem is likely something going on with your back, and it’s something a doctor or chiropracter should probably help you get worked out. The chair on its own should definitely not be causing anything like that.

      @@babybirdhomethanks for the advice. If someone, like me, finds the backrest to be hard, especially when leaning back, what might cause this? I've been using the chair for a year and while I find the backrest less hard than I did initially, I still don't get the floating on a cloud feeling that many describe, especially when reclining. I have tried all combinations of tilt tension and backrest angle of course. I just find that the backrest is pretty hard.

      If your chair is consistently inching down you cylinder may need to be replaced. Since the Embody doesn't have a set screw and is a side activated cylinder there isn't a way of fixing this. You would have to purchase a new cylinder which you may be able to get from HM if you have a warranty with them for free.

    If any embody users see this :
    Don't move the arms like that!
    Just pull them up a bit (without pushing the underneath buttons) and then move them. You won't need to put any force on them and they will not make so much noise!
