Thanks to Renee for letting me know the original download link didnt work. New link in now in description and here: - www.dropbox.com/s/2hocggd1hn4bsrc/GX-100%20JAMES%20G.tsl?dl=0
Great you fixed it James and I could load the two patches but I have a few remarks. There was no sound coming out from ambient patch because the send/return block was activated !! If you have not connected the send and return then you will not hear anything. Deactivating the send/return solved the problem. The second patch the recti stack came only out of the right channel because the mix was set to pan l/r and the a level was zero !! and the b level 100 so only 1 channel. Setting the a level to 100 gave a stereo sound. I deactivated also the send/return on the upper string (left or a side). I liked the ambient patch and I am not a metal guy 😀
@@reneliebregt6319 Ah yes this will be because I was running the rigs dual Stereo into both my Zilla 2x12 and Direct into my Interface to demo sounds in the video. I'll replace them with some Mono versions minus the Send/Return this week 👍
Thank you very much for this review and for the presets that i've download. This video convince me to buy the GX100 and i love it! It still doesn't work good with touch screen🤣, but this unit is awesome! Thank you for your job James!!!!
I think this guys will excel in reviews. He has a good demeanor for it. He’s got this relaxed, yet analytical vibe that’s a joy to listen to. I’m my opinion his judgements on product is spot on remaining he’s fair. I hope he does well because I always look forward to his reviews.
Incredibly kind comments, thank you! I am currently releasing a video every other week hoping to grow my subscriber base. Very much appreciated your support!
This unit made me a believer that tube amps were no longer a requirement for great sound. The pods didn't do it for me but the sounds in this unit are stellar. I almost don't regret selling my Carol Ann amp.
Boss make my favourite guitar tones. I know many people dislike not having sounds based off of existing amps, but they're good sounds (as you already mentioned), and sometimes it's nice to sculpt your own tone instead of copying what has been done many times before.
I must say after spending some time with this unit, the negatives that you point out are nothing compared to the great tones. I do programming through my iMac and it is a piece of cake. For $600.00 this thing is a steal! ROCK ON!
As of the latest Tonestudio software now includes the IR loader. Basically Boss listened and simplified that process. It does take about 45 seconds to import an IR and there are 16 user slots.
I am using this unit now with a tiny ibanez practice amp... And even with that the lead sounds are beautiful and the crunch when riffing is very very nice. Great investment.
Had a pod go, went for the GX100 and I think it’s a really good unit. FX are really good, 15 FX in the chain, dual amps, the switching is a real positive. The switches can literally do anything, from one button turning on 2,3,4 fx with one press, or just altering gain, switch amps as it has zero latency when switching its a great feature. plus an expression pedal. The only downside is limited amps (12) with no sign of updates, but all the amps are really useable. But I want more just to experiment … roll on 2024 - problem solved, picked up a cheap tonex one wired into fx loop so now have thousands of amps. GX100 and tonex one still way cheaper than helix etc. very happy with this robust, incredibly versatile and small rig.
@Felipe-wr4xk dead easy there is a send return loop port on back of the Gx100. One cable in each to the in and out of tonex. Then in chain on gx100, simply add send/return icon. Worked first time.... sounds immense
I think a few things most fail to realize about the GX100/GT1000/Core is where we feel that corners are being cut or lack of pretty graphics or having to use a separate program to download IRs are done intentionally to save on DSP usage. I'll take the lack of certain conveniences for seamless/ zero latency switching and the incredible sounds and tones. As far as the lack of amps/cabs selections ...how many do you really need to create a great tone? I think the amp foundations are there..now go create your sound!! I love my GT1000...but that's just me.
This pedal is unbelievably awesome. Give it some time to get used to the interface. Set your input gain. Dial-in a good parametric eq and use the high cut. I would DEFINITELY PICK ONE UP.
@@GuitarCinemaOfficial right?! Around $450. You really can't go wrong at that price. My tone sounds great at church with tons of ambient reverb and delays. Plenty of gain staging options and footswithes as well.
I have one, which I love. I have been debating maybe replacing it with a headrush pedal or gigboard. Honestly though, I think I prefer keeping it, and continue exploring tonal possibilities. Amazing video man! Very detailed in your thought process, you provided context for everything and gave your honest opinion. Subscribed.
The touch screen and tablet editor I would expect to use a lot when setting up the sounds I want when it's new out of the box, but not much after that. So, if those are the only drawbacks, I'm happy. It's now on my shortlist. Great, balanced review, done with style. Cheers.
That seems like a very balanced view of the product. The only thing I would perhaps take issue with is the need for more amp models. Of course, I accept that many people will always want models of actual valve amps and they'll fret about the accuracy of the tone reproduction, but I think we're moving beyond that now. Digital amp modeling is now so good that why shouldn't we use the technology to create original, or idealised, amp models? Things like the X-amps are idealised digital amps using the latest technology and as you found with the X-Mod amp, they're just as good as the models of actual amps. Personally, I don't care what the amp model is, as long as it sounds good, and as you rightly point out, the amp models in the GX100 are all superb.
@@GuitarCinemaOfficial I found your Metal tone too extreme for my tastes as at my age, I'm more of a child of 80s Metal. If you could showcase a tone that was good for Iron Maiden, Saxon, Dio, Ozzy etc that would be awesome.
Loved your content. Agree 90% of all stuff you mentioned. Just one thing that i do not agree which is , i think more fx processors should release their own amps instead of replicating others. Because that makes them unique. Otherwise you have very quality content. İ wish you the best luck in your youtube journey , keep up the good work!
Fair point. I think people unfortunately buy based on having access to amps they know though. Not to say made up ones can't sound great, really enjoyed some of the ones in this unit. Thank you for comments and for watching!
James this GX100 is sensational, I've had mine for over a month, I'm extremely happy, satisfied and satisfied with it!!! I already downloaded your patch and will test them!!! I already left my like and subscribed to your channel!!! Thanks man!!! #BossIsBoss #BossGX100 #WhoHasABossGX100DoesntWantWarWithAnyone #SOFEI
Very kind mate thank you! You will need to download my patch again as someone brought to my attention the original file didnt work so I have just put a new link in the video description. Enjoy!
Bit of a late question... I recently purchased one of these used, and I'm worried I received a broken one... When I touch the knobs under the LCD screen, it does two things. Grounds the signal path, like when you touch a metal part of the guitar (It does this when I'm not touching the guitar). I also hear scratching noises. Not when I turn the knob, but digital scratching just by rubbing the top of the knob. Have you experienced any of these issues? I'm also getting more noise than I would expect, even when using pretty low gain. It's loud enough to be heard even in the cleanest of patches.
I have one and I love it, but I don't like have to buy the extra Bluetooth conect for use it in another device it has to come in it. And the boss gx100 really need a XLR out slot
17:30 gotta admit man the secret to that is edit with the app but when you want to save the preset just click it on the unit it’s basically like a normal save time way faster and easier
Thanks for the review. To my understand, you cheer the GX-100 that I have to think again in my decision of getting one. My trade-off with this one is NUX MG-30 that seems to "sound" better to me out of the box, while GX-100's factory presets "sound" somewhat "dry" as if they miss DSP such as "not enough" reverb and so on, mostly mono too. Was it intended so? To get "good" sounds, maybe it requires many further settings, isn't it?
The biggest problem is that the pitch shifter can't down tune a half step to Eb with a clean amp model. It produces an annoying flanging effect. The problem doesn't happen with the dirty amp models.
@@Bret_Sanor Many have suggested pedal bend but no joy...same problem. My 11 year old Digitech RP downtunes perfectly. I reported the problem to Boss and they said I should buy a Digitech Drop, as youve mentioned. The GX-100 is an awesome product at this pricepoint but they missed the boat on downtuning.
Thanks for the video! Very useful! Unlike what you said about the hexagonal icons in the user interface, I do like them, because they don't mimic real analogic pedals, but they just represent the effect, giving the idea that these processors are a new way of making effects, and not just a copy of the old style. And also about the fact that there are just 23 amps, compared to other machines that have even 150, I prefer quality over quantity, and after all 23 are not so few. Said that I don't own this machine, so there are just my thoughts.
You only need 2 or 3 GOOD amps really. I own a Kemper which gives me access to virtually any amp ever made yet I still only use a few. I can make my way around the UI fine but I've found for beginners/more casual players the closer your UI functions to a real physical signal chain the easier it is to get to grips with.
Hi James, thanks for a very balanced review. My question as a relative beginner to fx is whether I could use this device to record high quality (semi-pro level perhaps?) sounds by going direct into my audio interface (can’t mic an amp where I live, for all the typical reasons). I’m getting a lot of advice to buy software plugins but because of budget constraints I am hoping this one unit can accomplish both purposes - live and recording. Any advice would be welcome, thanks.
Hi mate thanks for watching! Yes I'd say this unit could do that exact job. It actually has the built in feature of being an audio interface too so in theory you could just run a single USB cable into your computer for the whole job. I use my Headrush in this exact way, checkout my video 'Headrush - A Hidden Gem"? on the Channel for more info.
I can't decide between this and the headrush core. It's ironic because the touchscreen draws me towards the headrush while the gx100/gt series stuff has like everything else I want. If there was gt1000core but with a headrush touch screen, it would be the best device on the market
I have one, didnt notice any issue with using the screen. Your comment kind of surprised me on this one BUT I have to say that my phone does not have the best screen (galaxy x cover 5) and my tablet is kind of old so maybe that is why it didnt surprised me.
Easily as good! Personally I think HR is a more balanced list of actual Amp Models whereas Boss has a better effects selection. Although HR is absolutely another league in terms of UI...
I honestly struggle to think of anything the Boss does better than the Headrush. Maybe you could argue it has a larger number of effects pedals but really if it was my own money I'd definitely recommend Headrush over this.
Hi James-great review, thanks! Forgive the newb question, but I recently started gigging again after almost a decade and I’m looking for an affordable“entire setup in a box” solution. Lugging around my JCM 2000 and Orange 2x12 isn’t really necessary or an option for lots of shows and, even more importantly, I want to be able to simplify the on-stage performance in terms of effects pedals. The idea is to be able to craft my tones in my own and play them through any amp available at venue, and also be able to have easy accessible presets for all my effects from song to song (or part of song). Is this the unit for me?
Hello mate, i was in a very similar position in 2020 coming back to serious writing/playing after a 9 year lay off! You could pair this modelling unit (Or any modelling unit like it) with a simple pedal based power amp like the Harley Benton GPA-100 and you'd be able to drive any normal Guitar speaker cabinet such as a 4x12. Just make sure you disable any on-board Cab Sims or IR's or it wont sound right. Alternatively you could pair this modeller or any like it with a powered FRFR speaker such as the Headrush FRFR112. Either setup will be more than enough for gigging/rehearsing. Just remember that pedal based modellers like these will not drive a standard guitar cabinet on their own . Hope this helps!
@@GuitarCinemaOfficial very helpful, thank you! And, alternatively, does it make sense as just a multi effect unit to replace a pedal board running in front of a standard tube amp + speaker cab setup, ignoring the amp modeling aspect? Thanks again for your response!
@@chrisferreira7926 In that scenario you could save a bunch of money and just get a pure effects unit like HX Effects. Although IMO you'd be missing out on all the amp modelling possibilities by running direct into an Amp head.
Apologies for missing this in the video. I'm not big on Loopers and its not something i'd be comfortable giving an opinion on with my limited knowledge. Thanks for watching!
Great video - thank you. The is my first modeler. I am connecting it to a tube combo amp. I’ve watched a few videos about the 4 cable method. I basically want to use the effects with my combo amp without the tone being colored by any of the amp or speaker modeling. Then there are times when I want to use the amps and speakers in the unit. Any suggestions on using it with a combo tube amp?
Insert a sent and return Icon into the Chain (delete the Red amp Icon) then you csn use the amps Control ( Combo) when using 4 cbl methode ( easy and effective)
Fantastic review. But I have a question (and this isn't just for you but many of the reviewers): Why does noone mention the lack of custom defaults? When I got the GX-100, I instantly recognized it was pretty much the only modeller I needed and put my others up for sale, including a Pod Go. However, the Pod Go has this unit beat in one important way - it is easy to copy and paste a given model block with tweaked settings. Additionally, you can setup models AND presets so that whenever you go to a new one, the thing is set exactly how you like it set. With the GX-100, every time I add in a new amp or a new OD pedal, it is set to its default setting and I need to tweak it from scratch to how I like it. Luckily, this is not hard to do but it is irritating. I wish this at least had the stompbox mode from the GT-1000 or something like that. Also wish it had the custom naming/coloring of stomp switches like the Pod Go. But these really are minor gripes as the positives of this unit smash the negatives
Why not just make your own custom defaults? Reserve some user banks to store template patches. You could put just an amp model or amp + your favorite pedals with your custom settings and save them a template patches. When you want to create a new patch using with the X-Modded amp block, for example, instead of dragging and dropping from the menu, go to the X-Modded template you made previously. After you're done adding to that patch, write the final version to another user bank. That way, you always have your base templates to start with.
@@Nightbreed82 I can do that, sure. But let's say I decide to tweak that template later on. Say, I want to change a bunch of amp parameters on my default amp on my default patch. Turn up the gain, down the volume, adjust the sag/resonance/BMTP, etc etc. I'd then have to make the exact same modifications to all existing presets that had been birthed from that template. In the Pod Go, I could simply remove the amp from the presets and then add it back and, VOILA, new settings magically set!
@@moe45673 Ah, I see. I didn't realize it worked like that. You're right, that is an awesome feature and I hope it comes to the GX-100 in a firmware update.
@@GuitarCinemaOfficial Thanks for the response! It can't. I mainly edit with Tone Studio and have gone through everything, including the manuals and param guides :\ FYI, I am glad you glossed over the touch screen. As opposed to you, I like it, but this is not a selling point for me and I'd be equally happy using this if it had the controls and screen of the GT-1000.
So its perfect. Well not really but the red flags in this thing are really just things that you can get over it. But the important things on this are on the spot. You should have 10 milions subscribers for this unbiased reviews.
I been using a Pod hd5500x For the last 6 years live. It's beat up from 5 night a week Ans starting to fail.and rust out. Lots of gigs in Salt air I been looking ar this boss for some time. I think uou should me on it with the sounds. Great review thamks
Looks like everything is focused on a typical guitar. I’m looking to use this with a bass. Been using a pod go and missing the ability to play a 10 inch speaker and a 15 inch speaker. Wondering if you have any knowledge of bass with this
Thanks, great review. I don't mind the UI I think it's fine design wise but the touch screen, can be improved (I only got mine 3 weeks ago but I think they updated the screen and it's better then when you reviewed it, but I'm not sure). Did you had the chance to use the send/return block? It adds some kind of nois in high gain/volume, I only get it with this block. Thanks!
Hi Mate what did they update on the UI out of interest? I did use the Send/Return blocks to run this thing through my 2x12 and Power amp but didnt have issues with noise just needed the usual Noise Gate adding.
@@GuitarCinemaOfficial as far as I know only the touch screen response was improved I have the latest version and it is fine, not great. What value do you put the noise gate?
I have tried loads of paid and free IR's over the years and my 2 favourites that I always come back to and use for everything are the FREE S-PresHigh and 2-OffPres ones that you can get from here: www.dropbox.com/sh/j7keqkfi9czk6rk/AADAgiM4GagABGnj0Pl3K0QHa?dl=0
Just got on from an OfferUp trade out of pure chance... Already have Helix, Stomp, HR and QT but what made me do the trade is 1) It's not one of the others 2) BT Streaming of Backing Tracks. By any chance did you do any of that? How does it work? What is the process?
Very nice review...thanks! I was wondering how this unit feels under the fingers, and if there's an acceptable amount of latency. I have played some modelers that just felt like they were fighting you. What is your experience??
Amazing video man. Liked, saved, subbed. Could you shed some light on the looper? Does it allow multiple footswitches (like a 3 switch looper) and do the recorded loops carry over when you change presets/preset banks or are you stuck in just one patch?
Thank you mate much appreciated! I dont tend to cover Loopers in modeller reviews as I really have no experiene/knowledge about them but you're not the first to ask so I will look to address this in future videos.
Hello mate. I have not used a recent Zoom product so cannot comment. However if Looper functionality is a priority for you I would recommend the Headrush Pedalboard/Gigboard over the Boss as it has a lovely giant clear screen and a very large looping memory.
@@BagusWibisono Both the Boss and Headrush are very close in terms of sound quality. To decide I would look at the list of amp models for both and figure out which selection you like better. I will say the Headrush does an amazing 5150 sound. If you look at the 2 recent Music Videos on my channel they are both recorded with the Headrush 5150 rig.
I'm thinking about getting this but I'm having a hard time finding reviews of the octave function on it. I've read the up and down are polyphonic with range sweep on the lowest octave. Have you tried it? How does it sound in your opinion? I like the Boss OC-5 so if it's a copy of that I'm sold :)
I've gotta ask. I have a katana 50mk2, I've tried other multieffects/ modellers like ampero hotone and mooer through the katana via front input or the rear power amp in....they sound crap. What are you running this through? I know the gx100 software allows you to select the amp it's running through, but how effective is that feature?
Hi maybe a stupid question but can you plug this unit direct into a speaker cab without going through any external amp and just using the amps on the unit
There are no silly questions! This cannot be plugged directly into a traditional guitar speaker cabinet as it's only a digital modeller without a built in Power Amp. You'd ideally want to use an FRFR speaker with a built in Power Amp or you could use a seperate pedal Power Amp like I'm doing here but that would stop you being able to use any IR's/Cabsims in the unit.
Thanks for the review. I had a GT1 and Katana and still have Boss WAZA AIR headphones for playing on the deck. I went to a Pod Go for about a year, but now switching back to a Boss and going to get one of these. I like a pedalboard with an up facing FRFR for stage so I can hear it, but the Pod is a bit of a finicky pain with the volume presets. I'm a 30 year IT guy and can't seem to do anything to fix the volumes between patches and snapshots. Sounds are good on it, but I've always been partial to the Boss tones and Tone Central. Studio Rats also has some great settings on their channel for Boss gear. The Pod Go has a lot more amps, but hell, as a gigging guy I use like four amps tops in my Pod with multiple snapshots on each. Most were things I would never use to be honest.
I hear you mate, honestly no matter what modelling product I've used I've never found a straight forward way of volume levelling across patches or scenes. Its just been a process of adjusting each one manually by ear. I'd love to see a global compression/limiter on some of these products, it would be more useful IMO than the Global EQ.
@@GuitarCinemaOfficial I have a dumb question....I have had similar issues with volume levelling across patches and screens...You then mention it might be remedied by a global compressor/limiter? So my question is.....why not do that externally? Have an actual Compressor/limiter AFTER the modeller. Would that work? I have seen guys put graphic EQ's in FX loops and even after a floor modeller. Could your "global compressor idea" be attempted the same way? I ask because right now I don't have a dedicated compressor but see them pop up all the time used. I may pick one up just to give this a try. Have you tried that yet? Should I give it a go.? Cheers.
James I play in a cover band and use a boogie Lonestar I’m looking for good quality effects cover everything from country to classic rock what do you suggest
I found that saving deal as well on my SY 1000...sound outwins...I'm in agreement with you there...because even if some of the things that come off as would be completely annoying, the point you make of getting the sound you are wanting right away with the effects, plus the amp tones being really desirable makes it worth it, because we all know once you get a preset done for a particular song, then you just keep it, and never have to worry about tweaking it again...thanks for covering this pedal...was considering getting an Orange Crush combo, but probably doesn't fit for the gigging stuff, doing so many different cover songs...
And I have two questions: first one is: are the Wah effects on the machine good or not? This is very important for me. The second one: are XLR a real miss? does it make sense to use them with guitars, that use umbalanced signal, that are jacks? If someone could answer I would be greatful!
I cant comment on the Wah sorry however Boss has a good track record in effects so id expect them to be as good as the rest of the what the unit offers. XLR outs are always preferred by me personally when doing anything with modellers.
Hey duder, I've seen that this unit and the gt-1000 have a pitch effect capable of doing "drop tuning". Have you messed with it? If so, is it any good regarding artifacts, latency, etc.?
Hello mate I have not however my experience with this unit is that EVERYTHING is very low latency even patch changes are instant so I'd expect it to be excellent.
I'm thinking of getting one of these to replace my POD Go and I was looking at this or the MX 5. Its interesting that you think the touch screen is rubbish but Tony McKenzie, who is one of the most difficult person on the internet to please, really likes the touch screen. He thinks it is far better than the screen on the MX5. The reason I want to replace the POD Go is frankly, the ease in the editing of a patch and since the MX5 also does not have any editing software, I was really leaning towards this unit. The last bit that I wanted from it was the ability to plug in both an acoustic and electric guitar at the same time, which apparently you could do on the GT-100 and also the MX-5. You mentioned that it does have good acoustic sims for electric but you don't specifically mention any patches that are made directly for an acoustic guitar. I have 2 hybrid guitars that have both electric and acoustic output, and I would really like to to send both into the processor with 2 separate signal paths to use in a gig. I know this is a long question for a year old video, but I'm reluctant to buy anything until I make sure it can meet all my needs. Thanks in advance Alan
Hi mate, i'm not familar with Tony Mckenzie but do you know if he's had his eyes checked recently? 😂. The touch screen is useable but as I said in the review, think early 2000's Nissan.... Running 2 seperate signal paths is actually a fairly high end feature and the best experience I have had doing that has been with a Helix product. Here in this video I use the two inputs to setup a wet/dry effects rig: - th-cam.com/video/i-bQ5FlcEcA/w-d-xo.html
@@GuitarCinemaOfficial Thanks for the reply. I'm surprised you haven't heard of Tony McKenzie. He's the Brit who disassembles all the gear he reviews to show how it is put together. Very long videos and not a whole lot of actually showing how to use the gear. But he is very hard to please and usually when he does like something at least you know it is probably well built. Anyway, I've tried the Line 6 route, and after all is said and done, they are still confusing to work with to find things and edit and get to them to do what I want. That's why I am looking for the modelers with touch screen editing and have narrowed it down to the Boss and Headrush. Actually, I decided to order the Boss, mainly because of the ability to edit via the software and will probably just use the screen for tweaking. Thanks again for the response.
It’s 16 Feb., 2024 as I comment. Has anything changed since you uploaded this review, James? Does it have essentially the same pros and cons as it did when I was introduced in 2022? Despite all of the downsides, it is still tempting me really hard, and I only learned it existed yesterday. My focus has been on getting its counterpart, the GT-1000 Core. I anticipate that if I buy one of these, I will be able to circumnavigate its flaws and find the times and interfacing that I’m after. It wouldn’t bother me whatsoever to have this with the Bluetooth adapter and control it from the iPad I currently own (and am watching the review from). That alone would be a marked improvement over my present Boss modeler, the ME-80. I also have a Zoom B1X-4 whose own features are way more limited than this thing.
Hey man, not much has changed since this review. Boss haven't updated the unit much. What I will say though is I am seeing these regularly come up on the used market for crazy good prices. For around £400 you are getting an incredibly capable unit! My advice would be to join the GX100 user group on Facebook. Lots of good info from the user community on there. Thanks for watching!
This is a great video. I think I will just stick with my GT1000. Im curious that, if you are using the amp modeling, why are you putting through another amp. Cheers👍
Hello mate. I am not running it through another amp I am taking one of the Amp Models and running it without a Cabinet simulation into a power amp thats driving my own 2x12. This is a great way of using modellers IMO as you get the benefit of modelled amps and effects with the "Feel" of pushing air through a regular guitar cabinet. Give it a try! The Harley Benton GPA100 is an affordable power amp for this use. Thanks for the kind comments on the video :)
I have no issues whatsoever with the touch screen or the UI. I don't know what kind of person has a problem with these things or what their expectations are. Maybe it's because I'm a guy who happily uses an Android 4.4 phone without missing anything. But the GX-100 absolutely won me over with the quality of modelling, sounds and response. This thing is something else. And it's not built like a toy either.
I reviewed this after having owned and used a Headrush Pedalboard on and off for a year, I think that was a big part of why the UI felt so dated. The HR is an absolute joy to use.
there are two things that would improve wireless editing: 1. ability to rotate the screen of the editing app on the ipad to landscape and 2. abillity to connect to a laptop / pc with the bluetooth module. I'm completely with you: I like this machine 🙂!
Hola, muy buen video, de los mejores que vi!. Me podrias ser totalmente honesto y decirme a nivel SONIDO, SOLO CALIDAD DE SONIDO . boss gx100 vs nux MG30 vs headrush mx5 vs ampero 2 Realmente apreciaria mucho tu opinión. Y muchas gracias
You are a fantastic guitarist..I reckon you would sound great through the most humble of set- ups. But let’s face it.. us guitar players LOVE our toys!!
Very kind of you to say mate thank you. I don't consider myself very technically proficient. I play what I like to hear, almost never play anyone else's music and just make things up for the videos. Hopefully other people like some of it too. It's true we are spoilt for gear these days even the cheap stuff is capable of good sounds! Thank you for watching!
Hi James. I'm new to your channel. Really liked the video and look forward to more. I have a couple of questions. If you've used the GT1000, how would you compare the 2 units? All the documentation I've seen states that the GX100 has more effects than the GT1000 (can't remember exact number... 14?), do you happen to know what the extra effects are and where I might be able to get a complete list for both? And any idea if boss plans on adding these extra effects to the GT1000 as a firmware update? Sorry for all the questions.
Hi Mate im afraid I have no experience of the GT1000 however id be surprised if it actually had less effects? I did get in touch with Boss directly whilst making this video to check my GX100 presets could be used on a GT1000 or CORE and they confirmed there should be no issues.
Definitely has spillover yes, not sure on double effects to one switch but the Hardware Assign is very flexible so would be surprised if not. I recommend joining the Boss Gx100 Facebook group, some good info in there.
Hello , I have a Boss Gp10 and i find it very complicated to use since i am not that tech savy and was thinking of selling it and buying this Gx 100 as i think this is quite easier to operate . Could someone please help me if this is a good idea or not ??
GX100 is easier to use but I wouldn't call it easy. The most easiest to use modelling product is currently the Headrush range. The Headrush MX5 has a superb touch screen that's far superior to the one on the GX100 .
@@tumadsvids Theres really only another 2/3 High Gain options besides whats in the video. The Bogner Uberschall model was the next best to Recti and X Mod IMO.

I just got one delivered. Waiting to pick up my guitar after getting some fret work done. Can't wait to try this thing out.
Soundwise I could not fault this unit!
Boss make my favourite guitar tones.
I know many people dislike not having sounds based off of existing amps, but they're good sounds (as you already mentioned), and sometimes it's nice to sculpt your own tone instead of copying what has been done many times before.
The X Modded amp sounded great!
I love mine... With my Fractal, it takes 2 days to pick an amp. Sometimes less is more.
I must say after spending some time with this unit, the negatives that you point out are nothing compared to the great tones. I do programming through my iMac and it is a piece of cake. For $600.00 this thing is a steal! ROCK ON!
Agreed, as I said at the end of the video I can forgive its negatives because the overall sounds are top notch!
As of the latest Tonestudio software now includes the IR loader. Basically Boss listened and simplified that process. It does take about 45 seconds to import an IR and there are 16 user slots.
I like the touch screen on the GX-100. It works fine!
Knowing Boss its probably reliable and built to last, but after using Headrush for a while its like going back 20 years! :-D
I am using this unit now with a tiny ibanez practice amp... And even with that the lead sounds are beautiful and the crunch when riffing is very very nice. Great investment.
I must say, you’re very good at reviewing things. Really easy to listen to 👍🏻
Had a pod go, went for the GX100 and I think it’s a really good unit.
Hello Steve, could you explain in detail how you mixed both gx100 and tonex one? I've bought both and i am waiting for them to be delivered. Thanks!
@Felipe-wr4xk dead easy there is a send return loop port on back of the Gx100. One cable in each to the in and out of tonex. Then in chain on gx100, simply add send/return icon. Worked first time.... sounds immense
Old-school guys like me, simply need a clean, crunch, rock rhythm and boost lead tone….simple
One of the best reviews out there. Appreciate the tiem and effort!
Thank you for watching!
Just ordered mine. Thanks for the great review and the free patches as well. I can’t wait to try it out.
Thanks for watching! 😁
Granted the seamless preset switching is a killer feature I wish id mentioned in the video.
I think it's the first time in my life i watch a video fully from begining to end. Thanks a lot for this great review, this was interesting
I take that as a big compliment! Thanks for watching.
Really love this unit as a bedroom guitarist. So fun to mess around with. Perfect size also. Makes my Pod HD 500 seem like an oversized toy.
Best Boss GX 100 Review ! Thank You very much! 🤘✌️! Boss is King !
Thanks for watching!
Did they ever update the firmware regarding saving taking forever with the wireless adapter?
This pedal is unbelievably awesome. Give it some time to get used to the interface. Set your input gain. Dial-in a good parametric eq and use the high cut. I would DEFINITELY PICK ONE UP.
They are cheap second hand now!
Subscribed.
What an excellent review! Thank you for posting. Just subscribed.

the outputs are trs. Use an adapter for xlr.
Thanks for the video. I haven’t bought it yet but I am going to get it soon.
Thanks for watching!
The touch screen and tablet editor I would expect to use a lot when setting up the sounds I want when it's new out of the box, but not much after that. So, if those are the only drawbacks, I'm happy. It's now on my shortlist. Great, balanced review, done with style. Cheers.
Thank you mate! These are also available at very reasonable prices now and you get great sounds for your money!
You should do a review of the Boss GX-100
Thank you for this review,. Now I know I bought the right Effects Processor as the effects were my primary interest. One more subscriber now!
Thanks for the sub!
Amazing Review Bro!!!! This new boss looks really pretty and awesome 💪😃
Appreciate it as always mate 👊
@@GuitarCinemaOfficial 💪😉
I am releasing another of my "3 Free Awesome Metal Tones" videos for this unit on Saturday! :)

@@GuitarCinemaOfficial hey chief any idea which amps the gx100 amps are based off of?
Fantastic review . Thanks
Thanks for watching!
Excellent! 2:26 is Vito Bratta style?
No idea just made it up for the video!
I’m less interested in amp
Modellers and how does it pair with a valve amp like an ac30 and using drives and boosts to saturate the amp
Great idea!
I like this unit... I would like to try it. I currently use a pod hd 500x.
The biggest problem is that the pitch shifter can't down tune a half step to Eb with a clean amp model. It produces an annoying flanging effect. The problem doesn't happen with the dirty amp models.
Interesting. Thanks for sharing.
Try using pedal bend instead of pitch shifter. It seems to not do that as much. Otherwise, a Digitech drop in the fx loop is the way to go.
Hi, Nice review, how do you compare it to ampero stomp 2? how much of upgrade is it compare to ampero stomp? how do you compare it to gt-1000 core?
@@GuitarCinemaOfficial Great. Will check it out. Thanks.
I'm having trouble deciding between this and the GT-1000 Core. Any thoughts on this??
Great review, thanks!
Thanks for watching.
I can't decide between this and the headrush core. It's ironic because the touchscreen draws me towards the headrush while the gx100/gt series stuff has like everything else I want. If there was gt1000core but with a headrush touch screen, it would be the best device on the market
So, dis appointed with the headrush gigaboard...Are other headrushes the same tone or different?
Wow good review ! Sorry what song is the 8:14 ?
Thank you! Just something I made up for the video.
I have one, didnt notice any issue with using the screen. Your comment kind of surprised me on this one BUT I have to say that my phone does not have the best screen (galaxy x cover 5) and my tablet is kind of old so maybe that is why it didnt surprised me.
Hi James. How does the sound quality compare to the headrush? As I have 3 pedal boards in mind and want to narrow it down. Cheers
Easily as good! Personally I think HR is a more balanced list of actual Amp Models whereas Boss has a better effects selection. Although HR is absolutely another league in terms of UI...
Great video and review. Do you think HeadRush pedalboard is much better choice? I am going to buy a pedalboard and I want save my money and nerves 🤓
I honestly struggle to think of anything the Boss does better than the Headrush. Maybe you could argue it has a larger number of effects pedals but really if it was my own money I'd definitely recommend Headrush over this.
Well... The IR extra app problem was solved in the 2.0 firmware.
Hi, Could you kindly speak about the looper feature in the GX-100? How to use it and switch between patches during looping.
Apologies for missing this in the video. I'm not big on Loopers and its not something i'd be comfortable giving an opinion on with my limited knowledge. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for your work ❤
Great video - thank you.
Thanks for watching! Im pretty sure what you're talking about can be done via Tone Studio either on Desktop or Wireless.
@@GuitarCinemaOfficial Thanks for the response! It can't. I mainly edit with Tone Studio and have gone through everything, including the manuals and param guides :\
FYI, I am glad you glossed over the touch screen. As opposed to you, I like it, but this is not a selling point for me and I'd be equally happy using this if it had the controls and screen of the GT-1000.
Only 4 presets or you can add more in c1 or c2??, for example
So its perfect. Well not really but the red flags in this thing are really just things that you can get over it. But the important things on this are on the spot. You should have 10 milions subscribers for this unbiased reviews.
Show me how to get that sick heavy metal tone that Priest and God Smack have. 🤘🎸
Great video!!! Between boss gx 100 and hélix LT, which one do you prefer?
In my opinion the Boss sounds better at almost everything compared to the Helix.
I been using a Pod hd5500x
For the last 6 years live.
It's beat up from 5 night a week
Ans starting to fail.and rust out.
Lots of gigs in Salt air
I been looking ar this boss for some time. I think uou should me on it with the sounds. Great review thamks
The boss is definitely built well enough to survive that kind of abuse!
Looks like everything is focused on a typical guitar.
I’m looking to use this with a bass. Been using a pod go and missing the ability to play a 10 inch speaker and a 15 inch speaker.
Wondering if you have any knowledge of bass with this
I believe there are bass options included in this but to a fairly limited degree.
Preferisci questa o ampero 2 in generale nel rapporto qualità prezzo?
Can this work with a focusrite scarlet and or ableton live lite ?.great demo🤘
Yep absolutely both, it can also function as a standalone USB Interface thereby bypassing a Focusrite completely if you life.
@@GuitarCinemaOfficial that is good to hear thank you very much 🤘🇬🇧
When you mentioned it, what are actually your go to IRs? Would be a nice video idea and to get your opinion on some IRs (paid or free).
Thanks for watching! I experienced no noticeable latency with this unit!
Hi James, the Boss GX 100 or the Zoom G6 for playing at home. I want to use the looper. Your thoughts please, great review 🙏👍
FOR HOME, FOR YOU, ZOOM G6
Hello mate. I have not used a recent Zoom product so cannot comment. However if Looper functionality is a priority for you I would recommend the Headrush Pedalboard/Gigboard over the Boss as it has a lovely giant clear screen and a very large looping memory.
@@GuitarCinemaOfficial hi.. how about sound quality of both? Which one would ypu recomend? I play in metal band, mainly using evh 5150 preset.
@@GuitarCinemaOfficial you using 5150 model on headrush song is called “Vulture” ? Damn sound is punch!
Did you have a look at the input gain option for the higher or lower output pickups?
Can make big sound difference as well ;)
I did mate I actually found the only pickups that were clipping the input were my EMG 57/66 set on my Schecter so made an input preset just for them 👍
I'm thinking about getting this but I'm having a hard time finding reviews of the octave function on it. I've read the up and down are polyphonic with range sweep on the lowest octave. Have you tried it? How does it sound in your opinion? I like the Boss OC-5 so if it's a copy of that I'm sold :)
I tried using the Octave set to 1 Down on my clean tones and its sounded decent, slightly distorted but most Octavers do IMO.
Thanks for the response, I ended up adding the OC-5 as a separate pedal.
@@oliverlangrall2014 good call!
Did you find an answer? I use the power amp in and this seems ok.
This unit running the 4 Cable Method into your Lonestar could produce some epic tones IMO
Have you used the 4 cable method with it?
I have not mate but given the quality of the Boss pedals included im willing to bet it would work great for that!
Can you connect traditional pedals to it? If so how do you connect them?
Yep you can use the built in FX Loops for pedals or even use it with a traditional amp via the 4 Cable Method.
@@GuitarCinemaOfficial ok thank you
Hey duder, I've seen that this unit and the gt-1000 have a pitch effect capable of doing "drop tuning".
Thanks in advance
Alan
Thank you! Does Boss GX100 have an auto riff or/and an assignable user riff - like the GT-10?0
?
I've never even heard of a feature like this! Sounds interesting...
@@GuitarCinemaOfficial I found out: it doesn't. Only Boss GT-10 has it.
Cheers, @@GuitarCinemaOfficial.
I use the touch screen and don’t have an issue
They fixed the IR loading with the latest update!
Yes the lack of landscape was very odd!!
Hola, muy buen video, de los mejores que vi!.
Me podrias ser totalmente honesto y decirme a nivel SONIDO, SOLO CALIDAD DE SONIDO .
boss gx100 vs nux MG30 vs headrush mx5 vs ampero 2
Realmente apreciaria mucho tu opinión. Y muchas gracias
Great review. Sounds are really good. I'm wondering if there is any latency between preset changes.
Almost nothing!
I can and I own a gt1000 I thought somthing was wrong with the gt come to find out it was a faulty wire cause I loop it thru my randall rg1003 head
Where you running 4 Cable Method or another way? Its very tricky to combine full Modelling products with amps I find.
Has Boss been able to speed up the preset save times with updates?
From what I see on the GX100 Facebook user group nope!
@@GuitarCinemaOfficial Thanks for your response. Much appreciated.
@@johnborges9201 thanks for watching
Thank you James! Excellent videos, my choice is made.. I stay with boss, I'm gonna sell my gt 100 and buy this f..Unit!
Thanks for watching!
Apologies if it's been asked before, but does the unit allow delay trails and is it possible to assign more than one effect to the same footswitch?
Again with Boss I find the modulation, delay and reverb are all quite nice, but the high gains are not good enough. My take
Watch other video there are killer high gain amps that this video does not explore.
@@tumadsvids Theres really only another 2/3 High Gain options besides whats in the video. The Bogner Uberschall model was the next best to Recti and X Mod IMO.
