  • Preparing your model for 3D print using Blender is easy once you know what to do and when. In this video we go through all the steps I use to prepare a model for 3D printing in Blender.

    You have a lovely calming voice and once again I learned some crucial information. My Stl file for my last project was so big it crashed my PC several time. Now I know how to fix that. Thank you.

    Thank you so much for this, I've been going insane trying to get my blender file to work in my slicer software!

    Ah amazing tip! I had everything in my workflow up to the remesh and was seeing as you say files with 1m+ polygons etc and large file sizes. Absolutely going to go back and run a decimate on my minis!

    • @MWSculpts
      @MWSculpts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's great 😊, you will need to tweak that decimate value and take a look at the model once done to see the quality but I'm sure you can find a good balance 🙌

      @@MWSculpts absolutely! That and the blender 3d print settings for manifold object are really good tips, I had been using prusa slicer as it has a great file repair system, but at high memory usage due to large files it could be slow and sometimes unable to fully process the files! Great video again will definitely improve my sculpt to print workflow!

    Love your videos, im starting to make my own designs for printing and your channel is soo helpful to me. Quick question, are you planning to model some sci fi stuff? Just curious how would you approach it. Again, love your content, keep up the good work! Cheers!

      Hey that's great to hear. It's something I have been thinking about for a while and did make plans to create something like this so keep an eye out ☺️. If you haven't already, check out the discord it could be useful for you as there are lots of makers such as yourself on there if you have any questions or want to show off your own designs 🙌

    Great video. One beginner question. As far as I know blender ist creating only a „shell“ model. So a cube e.g. is hollow inside. If this is exported it cannot be really printed because the model in the STL would be hollow as well which would most probably not intended for printing 28mm models. So how you you fill the volume of the objects?

    • @MWSculpts
      @MWSculpts  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes so it's true the mesh is totally hollow. From what I understand so far is that the mesh needs to be 'manifold' which means no gaps. The manifold mesh is then seen in the slicer as one solid object. Hopefully this makes sense so it is not really hollow inside once the model is exported to the slicer.

    What's the difference behind combining things this way and using booleans? Are there faces inside the mesh?

    • @MWSculpts
      @MWSculpts  ปีที่แล้ว

      A big advantage of this method is speed, you can combine anything together and remesh quite quickly. The Boolean method is more accurate but you might find it takes you more time as there are often issues booling complex shapes together. Take a look at this vid too which looks at the two approaches th-cam.com/video/Ovring0pLvM/w-d-xo.html

    Seems to me it'd be more efficient (for me) if I just hired a blender sculptor instead of trying to learn blender & buy a 3d printer and all of that for the one guy I want to make.... Though I suppose it's never really just one guy is it? (And yes I know about heroforge, it's not perfect.)

    • @MWSculpts
      @MWSculpts  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I hear you could be more straightforward in your case. Heroforge is cool but as you say they are fairly cookie cutter models in the end. Depends on the look you are going for.

    Ohhh and i waste my time doing booleans to merge all pieces toghether and to not get geometry incide the model.
    I was about to make the quetion about how you see if your models are big and thik enouth to 3d printed becouse i got some problems on my models that i made that came to thin and after i print then and primed, when i took them out of the gum that i use to stik it to the paper, when i lift them off they just breaked.
    Awasome videos

      Yeah these steps can be a real time saver. You can check the width of things with the measure tool in object mode. Or check the N menu under item tab and check the scale of the object if it's separated. Also you can use a square or something, set the size then place it over the object to see how it intersects.

      @@MWSculpts I even forgot that tool... instead i was using mesureIT addon to select 2 vertices and create the mesure between them xD
      To be honest i dident even knew about that ruler tool. Ctrl will snap into the vertices and other parts... another time saver xD
      Thanks again
