    Videos like this are HUGELY appreciated. Oh sure its nice to see battle royalles between unfindable allocated stuff BUT its good to hear thoughts and tastes for findable and even cheap whiskeys out there. I love that you pulled in the new EC rye and Bulleit. Thanks dude!

    Chose this rye as an entry into rye whiskey. I was not impressed, but only paid $20 for it. Left it on my shelf. Then one day I decided to compare it to Rittenhouse and a Jack Daniels rye. I put a few drops of water in it and Wow! It became a mellow flavor bomb. Couldn’t believe it. It even gave Pikesville some competition. Now it’s my secret inexpensive rye. Everyone I give it to straight and then with some water love it. Give it a try but use only a few drops to maintain the rye burn. It becomes a different beast.

    I tried the Jim Beam Pre-Prohibition Rye last fall. I like to make a version of an old-fashioned with cinnamon infused simple syrup and a slice of orange. This holds up very well. The spice note makes a nice cocktail. Prefer it to the EC at least for that particular drink.

    Great Video Jason! Definitely has me thinking about expanding the collection. For an idea, maybe try some more Beams, black or blue label. AAA 10 STAR. 8 and sand. The music in this video has throwback vibes.

    Here’s an idea for a WOTSW, Willett Pot Still Reserve, or any other lower shelf Willett

    • @StillLivinginthewoods
      @StillLivinginthewoods 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's some bad batches of the Pot Still Reserve out there right now.
      The bottle I bought a couple of months ago, tastes like liquid mildew, and I had several bottles last year and the were all great. Batch No 21C10
      Willett is one of my absolute favorite distilleries, but I'm sticking to the Noah's Mill and Rowan's Creek for now. (Can't find the 4 year rye anymore)

    Jason, thanks for the review. I have not tried this one yet, but will add it to my budget shelf. In the meantime, I just picked up Mars Iwai 45. Very few reviews of this whisky. I request you give this one a try. Very affordable at @ thirty five. It is a unique blend of corn & malted barley. Aside from enjoying it as is, I would considered Iwai 45 as a transitional whisky that would serve as a Bourbon for Scotch lovers or a Scotch for Bourbon lovers. Would love to hear what you think.

      @@Jared40 I'm 60 years old and I had two favorites when I was young and breastfeeding ,W.T. 101 (don't even know why I specify as though anyone actually drinks the 81 brown water) and JD ,I fell out of love when they watered JD down twice , yes I'm almost positive twice since the late 70s but I must say I'm glad I stopped being a pisser and sampled some of their other offerings especially the SB for about 60 bucks ill do it again and again. I'm kind of unforgiving sometimes, it was almost a 40 year hiatus for pissing me off, the way I see it if I want to water it down I have filtered water and filtered cubes and I'm more than capable of adding my own.

    For What's on the Shelf: Big House Bourbon. It's an $18 (in Ohio, seen it in the $20s in KY) Sazerac product. According to Breaking Bourbon's calendar, a Big House 120 proof bourbon is supposed to be coming out sometime this year but the one currently available is pretty damn good imo

  • @irishsausage6

    For my area at least, I would suggest Jack Daniel's Legacy bottles. I feel like they are such a steal and I never buy the regular Old No. 7 if these are available, especially on sale. At 86 proof it's what JD should be bottled at regularly like it was before they cut it down even more.
    I'm not surprised this is better than the EC. EC Rye did nothing for me as a rye.

I told him to tell his bottle friend that it was great as to not hurt his feelings if he came by an noticed the bottle missing..... My brother is really a bourbon drinker.. It is fair to cp this 90 proof rye to 100 proof ryes. The Wild Turkey rye is just about the SAME $ for the same size bottle and is 101 proof. The issue is cost. If both are cost similar and one is watered down to 40% or 45%, that is a feature worth pointing out. The question then becomes, why does the Jim Beam Cost similar and is a diluted product? The same for Jack Daniel's new 700 ml bottles vs. 750 bottles. No thank you! Jack Daniels in the past has diluted Old #7 to 40% from a higher ABV. And they did not dilute the price they charge! No thank you. Competition is wonderful! We have other, more viable choices for the same $ or even less.
