As a guy who works at Jim beam. They are not discontinuing it. What they are discontinuing is old tub and basil hayden red wine cask. Old tub will stick around for maybe a couple more years but then is done. Red wine cask is already officially done
Thank you for providing context. People are saying that the announcement of the high rye version of Baker's is where this liquid is headed. Can you confirm positively that this theory is not true?
I get hints of the yellow corn mixed with a touch of candy corn, blue louisiana red pepper corn, Illinois pink Himalayan corn, and California ocean corn. TBH I think of bourbon as the same with cigars. Hype
Just finished my bottle and you already know I'm gonna have to go replenish! Thanks for the insight about 114! Big beam fan myself, first bottle/bottles technically bought intentionally was 114 and kc 9yr bourbon.
Out of curiosity what are some other 110-120 proof bourbons I can find for simular cost? I'm really loving whiskey in this proof range gotta say I've spent $140 on bottles of whiskey but Old Forester 1920 is still my favorite to date
Benchmark Full Proof is the only other $20ish whiskey I know of in that proof range that is readily available. Everything else I can think off is $40 and up.
I was at Total Wine in North Miami yesterday. An associate confirmed that they ran out of it last week and will not be restocking. By the way, OGD BIB bumped from $25 to $32.
You can speculate all you want. 108 proof Jim Beam Single Barrel is regularly priced for $24.98 at Liquor Barn in Kentucky. Jim Beam has a ton of whiskey. They have to sell it. I enjoy OGD 114 and I'm going to leave it on the shelf until I want one. If by some rare chance it's not there, Benchmark Full Proof is.
When I first got into bourbon a number of years ago, when I was young and dumb in my bourbon journey, a friend gave me a bottle of Old Grandad 114. It was an old bottle, from the 80's, and me not knowing anything... I used it to cook with. 🙃 Knowing what I know now, I was an idiot!!!🤯
OGD 114 has always been a bottle I’ve wanted to try but never bought because I always see it in my small town. Even during rumors way back through the years it sits. But now I’m gonna make it my next purchase and if I do like it I will bunker one or two. Other than that I do plan on buying a glass! I recently had a pour at nice bar in the city not to far and they had glasses similar to yours. It did to me make a very big difference in the nose and I really appreciated that more! So can’t wait! Thanks again for all the info in every video! 👌🏼
As low as 16.99 in Northwest Arkansas and has been easily availible for 20 to 24 for the longest. Yet... in Memphis TN it is 40 everywhere. They just got it back after a long hiatus in that market.
Thanks for keeping it real...and sharing the love! Praying for peace and understanding for any that have lost a loved one. Have a fun and safe Fourth of July! Cheers!!! 🥃
It’s really findable in my area for about $25. Over a year ago it was hard to come by for $29. It’s a really good pour for what it is but wouldn’t be mad if they repackaged it with a little more age to it. I’ve read that Old Grandad used to be a premium bottle that Jim Beam turned into a bottom shelfer. Same goes for Old Overholdt, which they’re trying to bring back its roots.
Funny enough, I got my first ever bottle of OGD 114 after winning a randomizer from another member of the BRT Facebook page. Hoping it’ll stick around! It’s so good!
My wife was asking me just the other day why there was 3 bottles of Old Grand Dad 114 sitting on the floor in the back room when she could clearly see an open bottle (1/2) sitting with the rest of my collection (at least 45 bottles) of bourbons and I told her because I haven't had a chance to get the 4th bottle yet! A cask strength bourbon for $28.99 (and that's a $2 increase from a month ago) You gatta be kidding me! and it taste incredible to boot! drinking an old fashioned with it right now! Old Grand Dad 114 "proof" has to be at least $20 cheaper if not more than any other cask strength bourbon? 🥃Cheers!
I have had several bottles of OGD 114. I am not a fan of high rye Bourbons, but when I drink this one I will usally add 1 small cube. It has been a few years since I have been to the Jim Beam distillery. Need to go again.
Well, Jim Beam has been doing this for years. I remember seeing the regular Jim Beam with an 8 year age statement, then that went away. A few years later, Jim Beam came out with Black Label, age stated at 8 years, then a couple years of that, and it became, "Extra Aged." Then just recently they came out with the Black, with a 7 year age statement, it is definitely all marketing strategies.
The HH 6yr you mentioned... is that the green label that was reportedly KY only? That was a hitter. What is the replacement 7 yr product you reference?? Thanks and keep up the great work.
I just saw OGD 114 for 17.99 until October 5th, so I bought a bottle. Was curious why they would discount it, though the description says it’s not discontinued, I’m wondering how well it’s selling at $23 for them to discount it lol it really is one of my favorites
Yup. I was thinking the same thing. Get a couple bottles in case but not too many in case rumors aren’t true. Though people would go over to the bottled in bond, I still think people would be up in arms if OGD 114 gets discontinued
I saw they’re releasing a Baker’s High Rye. I got excited bc I’ve always wanted an older OGD mash bill at a decent proof point. So maybe that’s the direction they’re going.
I have one back up because we saw it on sale. I don't drink mixed, and the OGD-BIB is a better sipper to me as well as their Double Oak and Extra Aged, IMO.
OGD 114 is $33 in the NY area. The cheapest I've ever seen it is $30. The bonded is between $25 and $27. Wild Turkey 101, Old Forester 100, and even Jack Daniels No.7 are all around the same price as the OGD 114. There is clearly some play in pricing in different parts of the country.
I hope they keep it - that's good bourbon and doesn't cost much. Something that's part of your exposition, though you've not said explicitly (yet, anyway), is that a whisky company is a *business.* However much we may dislike the decisions a distillery makes, they're making business decisions, and if they ever cease to run the business like a business they'll be out of business. That's a point that we on the customer's side need to remember, so thanks for reminding us.
At least with that they didn't mark up Beam Black 7 Year much maybe $5-10 if that. I bet Beam repackages it as Basil Hayden Barrel Proof 7 Year for $90 😒🥃
I remember in 2009 people talking about OGD being discontinued. I used to drink Weller by the half gallon and never horded it. I did however horde a case of OGD that's worth what I paid for it then. While the Weller would be worth thousands now. 😅
Especially with the announcement of Bakers 7 coming with a high rye version...don't know what that proof point will be...but that could be the replacement at a 60-70 dollar price tag.
Just found this video because of the TH-cam algorithm. I’ve never had old grandad, but it is on my shortlist to replace my next killed bottle. Old tub is excellent.. followed by by old granddad.... folks both of these are absolutely great. They need to keep these around..so good . Old granddad BIB also very good.
market for barrels is dry. i doubt they could sell to a third part for more at this moment. they have saturated the budget market with 3 cheap products. they might pull it and update the product though.
My guess is they are using the 114 as a “loss leader” They make up for the low price of this by diluting the same whiskey down to 80 proof and selling it under the Basil Hayden brand, maybe.
I think companies should promote Tequila, Rum, Vodka and Gin and make them popular again to get the RiffRaff out of the bourbon market. These days everybody wants to buy bourbon and those other spirits just set on the shelf. I never see empty spots on the Tequila or Rum shelves.
What a great bourbon OGD 114 has been! It would be the ultimate sin for it to be discontinued! Nonetheless, great show as always! Just remember, if you ever woke up and wondered if anyone loved you, just know that we all love you. Cheers!

They are going to repackage this as Basil Hayden barrel strength and sell it for $80
Jim Beam in a year announces Basil Hayden Barrel Proof 7 Year at $90 a 750 ml with a fancy label with a buckle 🤣🥃
Best guess

My local store has a display of OGD 114 that’s about 50 cases right by the front door, $20ish per bottle
Where? I've never seen it for less than $30 near me. Generally $32 - $35. Granted, I live in NJ and EVERYTHING seems to be more expensive here.
Same here in NWA 19.99
In NW Indiana my local has cases of it for 27.99 for a 750ml. It's a solid mixer. I prefer JTS Brown BIB @ 13.99 for a 750ml as my mixer

@americanmonster8342 ankor has it for 18.99 now and Purspirit in Fayetteville has it for 16.99

It is likely that someone overbought on the rumor and is not trying to get their capital out of the inventory at cost.
MGP's Remus Highest Rye is 49 % rye (split between rye and malted rye, I believe). New Riff uses 30 % rye in their standard offering, as well.

OGD 114 in Ohio which is a state controlled price is closer to $30+
Same in Florida - $32 at major chain retailers
How’s that compare to Overholt 114? Ohio’s one of only a few states that gets that bottle
I think I got it for $19 in Texas
I’ve always been surprised with the current price vs Proof
My thought is something like what happened to black barrel. They stop making it and re release an aged stated version. 7 years
