Great review, this is how I feel with most of the budget bottles carrying the beam name on the label
Thanks my friend . Yeah , it seems like they go out of their way to make the palate as forgettable as possible.
When I tried it, this week, I really liked it. I paid $17.49 for the bottle, in May of 202.
Nice review.
Thank you Gert , appreciate that . Hope you are well my friend .
@@WhiskeyWars all ok here. Cheers
I have never tried this particular bottle. I am not a big fan of the Knob Creek 100 proof Rye, so I never saw any reason to try this one since it would almost certainly be worse.
Ryes from Brown Foreman and Jim Beam just do not do it for me.
Although , I can't agree on the Brown Foreman part , I do agree on Jim Beam . Both the Old Overholt and this bottle are both very average .
On Brown Foreman Ryes , do you not like them because they are more of a bourbon profile and when you are in the mood for a Rye , you want something more Rye forward ?
@@WhiskeyWars Yes, I prefer an intensely spicy rye that basically sets the front of your mouth on fire. Not an alcohol burn or a hot pepper spice, more like a hot cinnamon candy.
The reason that I avoid Brown-Foreman is because I do not like the banana note that seems to be in ALL of their products. I can say the same for Barton/1792 products as well.
Old Forester, Jack Daniels, Old Barton, 1792,.... I stopped trying any of their products several years ago after not liking any of them over and over again.
It's weird too,.. I have no problem with actual bananas, but I can't stand anything that tastes like bananas (or bubble gum). It's just my own personal hang-up.
@@StillLivinginthewoods - That's funny to me because I am the exact opposite . I do not care for actual bananas , but I really enjoy the Banana note you get in Brown-Foreman . I always describe OF 100 as heavy brown sugar banana bread , which I really like banana bread .
I would imagine that Woodford Reserve doesn't do much for you either then huh ?
@@WhiskeyWars Yeah, not a big Woodford fan either.
MGP and Wild Turkey tend to be my favorite distilleries, hands down. I also like some Willett stuff too, but their products are more "hit or miss".
It's one of those things.... for decades I was not picky about whiskey at all. For me it was either Wild Turkey 101 or some cheap Canadian stuff, and I never really thought any more about it. But as I became more of an "enthusiast" I started to become much MUCH more picky about what I like and do not like. The first time I tasted Belle Mead was the first time I tired any high rye MGP, and it changed everything for me, it's been a five year roller coaster ever since.
Funny enough, I also like banana-nut-bread. It is the artificial banana flavors that I don't like, and banana notes in whiskey remind me of that.
Everyone has very different tastes, I guess that is why whiskey is SO subjective.
@@FawleyJude - Yeah it's definitely there . I would say of all the Brown-Forman lines , Jack Daniels has the least prominent banana note . The strongest fruit note I would say I get is a weird grape , like grape cough syrup or something . But thankfully , Brown-Forman makes many other great products .
So I really enjoy more of the spice flavors than I do the fruity flavors. I do agree with others that this would be better as a cocktail. I think this was the hat to throw in because the guy down the street did. I typically like Beam and Turkey products.
There's nothing terribly wrong with this Rye , but given it's competition , there's not much going on here in comparison .
Since I got the bottle for FREE, I can't feel too bad... Will use for High Balls , but not for any special drinks... It won't go to waste. Thanks for the heads UP.....
It's probably fine as a mixer . There just isn't enough going on to me , to drink it neat . But you can't beat free .
please tweak the zoom of your cam manually. don't put it in auto mode. it's pumping and adjusting all the time and this is disgusting to watch. thanks.
Heh , when I filmed this , I filmed it on a 5 year old LG phone . Needless to say , there is no manual zoom function . That said I recently purchased a new camera . Have a good one .
@@WhiskeyWars ok good! have a good one too!
