Just tried this tonight and it was pretty good. Young and a bit of spice to it. Love Booker’s, Baker and KC and finally like a basic Jim Beam. Will not replace Woodford DO as not even in same league but will be a nice fire pit pour or reading a book sipper
I recently bought a bottle of OGD 114. I tried it a few years ago, and it was a lot to take in. Now, my palate has really evolved to like bourbons 100+ proof, and I’m glad I gave it another chance. For the price, it’s hard to beat. It’s so sweet, but spicy at the same time. But, I personally enjoy the Wild Turkey and Jim Beam flavor profile. OGD 114 and Knob Creek for the price, are absolute steals. And, you find them any old day of the week. Keep up the good work Jason. I have learned a lot about palate and nosing from watching your videos.
Being someone who does not like JB white label the double oak is actually really good. I will at some point try the WR double oak as well. I am a little new to the bourbon game because I thought they would all taste like JB so I stayed away from them. Over the last few years I have tried more of them and have found quite a few of them that I like.
Thank you Jason. I see other videos all the time.you have impeccable taste.I guarantee you do not smoke cigarettes. They actually ruined some of the notes and tastes that people report. But thanks for being straight forward and honest. It’s greatly appreciated without the snobbery of some other webcasts
You must’ve read my mind. I literally stared at that bottle today wanting to give it a chance because I do like Woodford DO. I needed a review before I committed to buying. Thanks!
Friend of mine got a bottle of that, didn't like it, and gave it to me. I tried it a couple of times, got a headache from a short pour each time. For my money the best double oaker is Maker's 46. (Well, or Woodford "double double")
I can't find Woodford Reserve Double Oaked in the 614 and a guy stocking the shelves at Giant Eagle said there's none coming until WR catches up with the demand, so I might have to go back to the Jim Beam one if I'm really desperate for a double oaked. I've kind of graduated beyond Beam at this point.
I love Jim Beam Black and Old Tub my twin brother likes the Double Oak. Haven't pulled the trigger just cause I am not the biggest Beam fan. 🥃Thanks for review Jason 👊🏻🥃
Hi Jason, thanks for the great review. For me the Woodford Reserve DO is a very good stuff, much better than JB DO. For the next WOTSW it would be great to review Johnny Drum Private Stock. Greetings from Germany.
The Woodford Reserve Double Oaked is one of my faves and a recommendation from you. I wasn't aware of this Jim Beam offering although I think I have passed by it in the store as I know I've seen a blue label like that among the other Beam offerings. Sounds like I'll stick to keep on walking past. Oh and follow up on my Remus Repeal hunt. My local store's current stock was a batch four and it was $80 not $90 like I thought. So I picked that one up and I'll just keep an eye out with them for a five.
I was able to snag a bottle of Beam double aged when the age statement was still on it at 8 years. Wow! Pure yellow cellophane wrapped butterscotch candy like the ones your sweet Aunt Agnes carried in her pockets but didn't taste like the mothballs that sat in the closet with it.
Hope you do an episode on what’s on the shelf Wednesday blind tasting (of what you have reviewed so far) which is a lot lol. I think Jim beam might not do too bad. Cheers Jason.
So I had Jim Beam white 10+ yrs ago, when it was aged 3yrs & it was horrific. The only straight bourbon I thought was bad. Gave the bottle away, would never dump it, that's just stupid. Anyway, given that, is there any chance I should even try this double oak or even the 7yr? Do love other Beam products, like the Knob Creek line & OGD bonded & 114.. The JB double oak here is $16 (w $3 off coupon) & OF 1910 is $41.
Great video - random thought, would you think the double oak would work in an cocktail? I prefer higher proof and rye in my old fashioneds but I have plenty of friends who prefer a 90 proofer in the old fashioneds I make. Wonder if the JBDO would add a little something with the hints of smoke and marshmallow.
I need to revisit the two as I remember WRDO as being less sweet than OF1910. I could be wrong though. I do know the 1910 is overall significantly better than WRDD for me anyway.
Never found anything with Jim Beam prominently displayed on the front label that tickled my fancy. Also a bit of a proof hound so rarely pick up anything below 90 and prefer 100 as a minimum. So I'll probably pass on this one but do have to give them props for having a double oaked product under $25. With all the over priced, over hyped releases it's good to see stuff that's available and affordable. Speaking of affordable, have you done Early Times BiB? 100 proof (naturally, it's BiB) and $25 for a liter. Very tasty and at that price a great mixer too. Yes, they got bought out but it's still on the shelves around me. Another good BiB is the new non-chill filtered Old Overholt rye.
I'm shooting myself on the foot here, but maybe you can do a review of Chicken Cock since we can now get it in Ohio and it's on the shelf everywhere for $59.99.
Last time I had Beam DO it consistently came across as off-putting, especially as I got closer to killing the bottle. Same goes for the current Black label. I feel like if I'm going to spend $20-$30 on a Beam product, then I'm gonna reach for Old Tub or Knob Creek. Haven't had the OGD Bonded yet, however.
Good vid. "Better stuff out there" for double the price. I wouldn't be surprised that if tasted blindly, most bourbon-folk would prefer, or be able to pick out, the more expensive bourbon; that's how close bourbons, apples to apples, tend to be IMHO ✌️
theres a definite youth characteristic in the Beam. But hey...some folks don't mind it. There certainly wasn't anything off putting about it so its enjoyable.
@@TheMashandDrum I don't mind youth, so long as acetone isn't in the nose. I love bourbon, but I honestly don't get many of the nuances some strictly-bourbon reviewers claim to pick up. To me, again apples to apples (proof/age), there are at best, slight differences around the edges with bourbon, and those differences almost never justify a doubling or tripling of price blindly in the glass. I'm most comfortable in the sub-$30 range with bourbon (and rye) ✌️
@@MrChristopherMolloy im somewhere in between. There arent many whiskeys ill spend over 100 on, but i do know what i like and dont, and spend money accordingly. And i know i dont like young low proof beam. To me the sweet spot for whiskey is 60-80. Thats where you get best bang for buck to me.
@@LeatherDaddy97 I'll agree that there are a few barrel proof/cask strength bourbons & ryes worth paying up for for special occasions. I think Elijah Craig Barrel Proof for about $70 is the most I've ever spent on a bourbon. Scotch is a different story.
When I did a tour of the JB distillery years ago prior to release of Devils Cut, the tour guide pointed out that the bourbon stuck in the barrel wood could be extracted but it wasn't good quality... I can't remember why. I few years later they started marketing Devil's Cut as a premium product... it's amazing how marketing, and not necessarily quality, can change people's opinions. Devil Cut is not my favorite Beam, but I do like the JB double.
I get wax off a lot of lower end beam products. Like straight up birthday candles. This ones no exception. Same with white label, knob creek 9 and old tub. I get why its so easy for many to enjoy but im not into feeling like im drinking a crayon.
Absolutely nothing earth shattering here of course but it’s a solid pour, I enjoy it occasionally. Mostly with fam, Jim Beams been the family pantry bottle growing up. My parents always had that and Black Velvet plus a vodka and some schnapps. Us kids would sometimes sneak a taste til we were old enough to just pass the bottle around with the rest of the family
Yeah, you get small nose of like chocolate, macaroni and cheese sour green apple blow pop with just a note of dirt and a blade of Kentucky bluegrass maybe some notes of peach Cherry some notes, notes, potato soup. Obviously I’m not a whiskey drinker. Someone give me a bottle and I just came to TH-cam and check it out. I’ve never seen anybody taste test alcohol. And you might be the Gordon Ramsay whiskey tasting, but listening to you. Talk about all of these flavors was insane because I don’t drink all whiskey taste like whiskey to me. which is disgusting.
@@michaelgreenwell1002 when you taste alot of whiskys, different flavors start coming out especially from different distillers. Same idea as food or wine. Do alot of bourbons have similar flavors?....sure but there are types of bourbons that have pretty different flavors as well.
I fell in love with Woodford double Oaked at what is now $65 in my area. Jim Beam Double Oaked is $28……. Umm JBDB every day.
Just paid $33 for this Jim beam …2024 economy
Love me some Double Oak 🥃

Great to cook with my favorite dessert recipe.
The last bottle I bought of JB Double Oak was $17 so I couldn't pass it up. I think it has a lot more character than white label.
For WOTSW: ryes? Like Old Overholt Rye Bonded, woodford, templeton, James e pepper 1776. Live that you’re bringin it back though!
Cheers!
I liked the Woodford Reserve DO better before I blind tasted them side by side. I picked the JB DO as the best in the blind test!
Great content! Love this series. I usually give this to friends who are “newer” to bourbon or whiskey.
Cheers
Jason, Thanks for the review. I'm going out and buy this. Woodford DO is too oak forward to me. I love the series keep up the great work
Beam puts out some good stuff for the price….. I think their extra aged bourbon is pretty damn delicious at that price point as well.
Since I tried the white label, I became a fan. I'll give this one a shot.

Годное пойло!
I’ve been eyeing this for weeks. 😁😁 was on the short list but curious to see reviews.
Hi, Jason! Talking about Jim Beam budget products, which one do you prefer between Jim Beam DO and Old Grand Dad Bonded?
OGD BABY!
Great video! is the JB double oak as sweet as the wood ford? I wanted to like the woodford but it’s way way to sweet for me.
I actually think it's less sweet. More corn and light Caramel
Hey Jason. Enjoy your content a lot. How about doing the new Beam Single Barrel at 108 proof.

I think it would. that hint of smoke I think would work well in an old fashioned
Woodford DO was too sweet for me. I preferred the Old Forester 1910 instead of these. Not too sweet and more complex in the same price as WDO.
Definitly a big difference between the two. I tend to lean towards OF 1910 as well.

Woodinville might be something worth checking out for $35.
How about Boone County small batch?

Considering Woodford is in heat cycled warehouses I would be surprised if it's over 5 years old.... Not including the extra barrel.
It could be younger nowadays considering demand.

better than jb white. Nice additional flavor
