I went from a 2600X to the 5800X3D. Massive improvements on both average frame rate and 1% lows. Then I swapped out the 2060 for a 7900 XT and got blown away- again.
@@jarkkoseppanen899 Yeah, went from a 3900X to a 5800X3D with the 7900XT. Not a huge difference in Il2 VR max frames but flying over Normandy Beaches, I have the fps hold steady where with the 3900X they would halve. Running a Pimax 8K-X headset through SteamVR with 1 in Pitool Wide FOV and 100% SteamVR SS. Early days and undervolted at -25 all cores.
After seeing some benchmarks today, thinking of going from a 2600 to a 5800X3D. Realised not long after I bought it that my 6800 XT was going to waste with this CPU.
@@daviddavies3637 I'm going from a 2600 too and it's a bottleneck even with a 1660s. Can't wait to try out the 5800x3d once it gets here and see how much smoother things are.
I upgraded from 5700x to 5800x3d. In my usecase it was 100% worth it. I play escape from Tarkov which is a very poorly optimized game. You are almost always in cpu bottleneck. So the upgrade not only improved 1% lows but also average fps significantly
This applies almost any Unity-based game, not just Tarkov. I have a few of them and 5800X3D has been much better than tuned 5800X. Too bad reviewers always focus on well-polished highly GPU bound AAA-games.
The big problem for 5800X3D at it's current price is much cheaper 7500f. This CPU, when tuned, usually matches and sometimes even outperforms 5800X3D. This makes the latter quite a bad value option. I think that is the main reason why 5700X3D was released. Though it is a bit too expensive as well. Hopefully it will drift to $220 soon. Then it would be a decent upgrade option for any AM4 owner.
Just upgraded my 5600 and rx6600 to an 5800x3d and rx7800xt. Older parts are going to daughter for her first PC. Preferred to stay on the same platform as her.
still with 5800x myself and 7900XTX, the cpu is basically useless to upgrade unless you're looking for that potential 10-15% (depends) slight bottleneck that might occasionally crop up in rare cases, and for latest stuff i utilize FSR 3 + Frame Gen mods anyways so it's not like it matters at all at that point next gen ryzens then i might even update to DDR5 eventually
I also did the swap from the 5600X to the 5800X3D like nearly a year ago. The improvement in my mainly played game DayZ at this time was immense. Playing on 1440p 240hz and the 5600X wasn't capable of delivering any fps more than 150fps. This swap brought me a fps boost of like 100-130fps depending on the situation, what is pretty damn crazy. It also depends alot on what kind of game you are playing. In the case of a very cpu intense title like DayZ its a night/day difference between this two ones.
@@MotoFlowsDefinitely, no question about it. With 144 & 165hz screens you immediately feel if it drops below that. Higher fps also means lower latency times no matter what
I did a similar upgrade path. 5600x/3070 and then decided to try the 5800x3d. Left me second guessing due to temps, but once undervolted, it really smoothed things out a lot. Found myself into a 4080 6mo later (also undervolted). Let's me vsync most things 164Hz, and I call it a day.
@@marcocherubini1279 See if you can get to -30mV on all cores and then play with PPT, EDC, etc. I think I'm using something like PPT-114 TDC-75 EDC -115, but I forget.
I've been contemplating the same upgrade for my 5600X. I have a 3060 ti now, but if I upgrade to say a 40X0, I need a better CPU unless I just push the GPU use at 4k. The 5600x/3060 ti combo is really well matched for gaming though.
@@justluke8836 I want to make the most of my AM4 system... saving a little for half the performance improvement doesn't seem that appealing now unless I was planning to upgrade the whole rig to a new socket in the near future. The 5800X3d still gives me upper tier Am5 gaming performance on Am4. That's pretty sweet- especially when you look at what AM5 motherboards still cost.
@@BReal-10EC I think if you plan to go 7800xt or 4070s, you can stay on the AM4 platform and get 5700x3d or 5800x3d even better, but if you plan to go higher, or in the next year or so, then definitely save for a new gen CPU, even wait for zen 5 this summer and get a non x3d version (as the 3d version will likely not come later), btw, don't go Nvidia mid end 12gb VRAM sux. not worth it. 4070ti super, above or nothing.
if you are anywhere near a microcenter and have a friend or family member that needs an upgrade, they have a $300 5800x3d with a $170 motherboard, and a $40 16gb memory kit combo for $330. I'm going to get it and then sell the mobo, ram, and my 5600x to my brother, and get a 5800x3d upgrade out of it for $200, and he gets a much needed upgrade from his i5 2500/8gb ddr3 build from like 2011
Great video, well shot/presented with useful info! I have watched all the previous big YT channels reviews on the 5800X3D when it first came out, but am always happy to watch other videos from smaller channels, and yours popped up on my home page. My jump was more significant than your 5600X, as I upgraded from a 3700X to the 5800X3D in early 2023 when they were at their cheapest, and it was a great boost all round, especially for sim racing (I saw an average increase of 20% in FPS and much better 1% lows). It's also provided a smoother experience in VR. I then upgraded my 2070S to a 7900XTX mid 2023, and I'm set for the next 3 years at least, hopefully longer. I suspect you'll be the same. The 5800X3D isn't quite as good value now, but it still saves you spending $$$ on a full platform upgrade, so it's still worth it given how rock solid AM4 is.
Thanks for the kind words, glad you enjoyed it. I think you’re right. The 5800X3D should keep me covered for a good long time now - especially now my 4080 Super has arrived. Video soon!
5800X3D does not really save you anything, since B650 and DDR5 became pretty cheap and $180 7500f was released. Upgrading to 5800X3D might even be more expensive than switching to AM5, depending on a certain region/offering.
@@Leerzej90 I don’t doubt it better but in terms in terms of ratios I had a hard time going for it as the outlay would be over twice that of a 5800X3D that I could just slot into my AM4 platform. Maybe I’ll jump in on zen 5 when the X3Ds come out
Nice timing of your video as I’m going through similar situation myself. I have 5600X with RTX 3090 (I play all titles on 4K as I have LG C2 which can go up to 120hz) and lately I started thinking of upgrading my CPU but to be honest I started thinking about upgrading mainly because of all other things other than gaming performance. I’m pretty happy with how it handles the games I play (Warframe mostly) but I started getting annoyed on how it slowed down on Windows 11 startup, and some other situations where I literally see that CPU is kinda struggling. From that perspective I started thinking between 5800x3D and 5950X and I still can’t decide in my head because one is really fast in all tasks except gaming and the other one is super strong in gaming… I’ll also wait for your video with 4080 which hopefully might give me more insight on wether should I go for 5800X3D or just go for raw performance in everything else with 5950X. Great video btw. Looking forward to the new one.
Subscribed! I have the same rig, and was debating a 5800x3d upgrade. I knew I had a CPU bottleneck, but didn't realize that the 3070 would end up as the bottleneck so quickly. It really comes down to performance vs $ at that point, and, for the price, I think I'll wait until I can upgrade the GPU as well. Great vid!
I have the 5600x3d, upgraded from a 5600x. Was able to get it for $156, and sell the 5600x for $100 flat. Fallout 4 minimums went from 58 to 88. Excited to see what you get on a 4080 super
I did this same upgrade upgrade awhile back, and I am happy with it after I also upgraded my CPU cooler. I got a decent Thermalright pretty cheap (Peerless Assassin, but other newer ones like Phantom Spirit are a little better). There is a large temperature difference between these chips, but it can be handled by a dual tower cooler. Thumbs up!
Fully agree. Please do a follow up with the new CG. I would expect that the 5800X3D will enable the 4080 to stretch its tensor cores, expecially in heavy ray tracing situations.
I did the same upgrade about 6 months ago because the 5800X3D was on sale for an unbelievable deal (CDN$249). Now, the 5600X was working OK but I'm also an avid Star Citizen player which requires a lot of CPU power, so I went for it. No regrets ; love my 5800X3D. The 5600X got handed-down into my daughter's computer, so she's happy too.
I copped a 5800X3D along with a 4070 back in December and it does everything I want at 1080p. I'm able to max out my monitor in more or less everything I play with the right settings. I loved my 5600X and it served me well but the upgrade is nothing to scoff at
Yeah thats a great combo! Especially since the 5800x3d shines best at 1080p. I have mine paired with a 4070ti at 1440p but i still notice the difference in better 1% lows
Cool video. Thanks for making it. It's nice to have narration with benchmark comparisons and such, especially with explanation! I recently upgraded to a 5700x from my 6700k & kept my ram, the same as yours speed-wise 32GB DDR4 CL16, && kept the same GPU GTX 1080 && PSU Seasonic 660W 80+ plat. just didn't wanna have to buy new ram really, lol. I upgraded from 1x16GB stick to 32GB dual channel (waited like a year to buy the 2nd stick)
Hey, I don't wanna nit pick, but I have the same CPU, and I am wondering if you have tried any of the optimizations available for it, which help a lot with keeping those faster clock speeds needed to pull ahead of some of the competition. I've tried it stock and with optimizations, and I gotta say; a lot of room to play with after the CPU has been PBO tuned.
This video is exactly what I needed, was also debating a 5800X3D or going all out with AM5. Think I'll just pick up a 5800X3D and wait for the next generation of chips.
I went from a 5800x to the 3d variant, was thinking of going 7800x3d then decided on 7900x since the difference isn’t as big at 1440p (I have 1440p ultrawide so even less) and has more cores at the same price (Amazon). While trying to pick out a motherboard to pair with it, I had a dejavu moment to Ryzen 1000, having to deal with QVL with Ram, and just ddr5/bios creating instability a year after being released. For reference, most of the boards I looked at had a bios update in September-October and everything else between there and now being labeled Beta. The Reddit threads talking about some of these beta bios versions bricking their boards and eventually being deleted off their downloads page. Did not inspire confidence in the current offerings, now waiting on what the improvements the refresh (assuming that’s what we’ll get) brings. Absolute horror stories of boot times being longer than windows on a spinning hard drive and it being a normal occurrence. One guy was praising a bios update that cut his boot time from 2 minutes to 30 seconds lmao.
I'm sure you know this, but all these tests need to be done at 1080p low settings for your rig specs. I think I know what the problem is with OBS. You just have to double click on the preview screen, and then right click on it to bring up a selection list. Select "Resize output Source". This should let you record at the desired resolution for both in game as on desktop. Thanks for making the video nevertheless. It is a fun one!
Interesting video. Good to see a proper comparison. I did a similar upgrade except I had the 5600 non x. Upgraded my gpu to a 7900xtx so wanted some more grunt to support it. The problem I had is playing at 4k the cpu upgrade wasnt as noticable. Totally thought Id wasted my money at first. Mainly improvements in the lows as you found. Newer games seem to utilise it a bit better now. Ive swapped my gpu out again and got a 4090 and they work well together
Have a 5600g and about to get a 4080 super. Based on your experience, would you say it’s serviceable or should I spend extra on a 5800x3d? (I mainly play MMORPGs. Thinking of getting into Helldivers 2 once I get my gpu.) Edit: I use a 4K display.
@@user-jk5um1om8l I would be tempted to upgrade your cpu as thats only a 5500 but with built in graphics. At 4k you might not need it though although you would definitely be leaving some frames on the table. I love the x3d and it performs well in all games Ive tried
@@markojovanovic6928 Yea i find it od...in his other video comparing the 5600x and 5800x3d with rtx4080, the 50xx was macthing FPS in 4k ultry cyberpunk 2077...But then you drop it to 1440 or 1080 and then the 5800x3d has a good 30 fps more..but im not understanding how that s.
Hey there, nice video. exactly my use-case. just that now, I more interested on the 5700x3D - significantly cheaper and yet, only about 5~8% slower than the 58. would you recommend getting that, instead of the 58? it sees just about perfect of an upgrade, from the 5600x. ( will get about 120~140$ back on that 5600x, while the 5700x3D will cost about 300 here in my location ).
If you play at 1080 p heavy cpu game could be a good choice rhe 5700x3d but if you play on higher resolutions, i dont find so much advantage with some games.
Great video! I have a 5800x (undervolt) with a 3070, similar to your combo and i didnt see much benefit in go for the 5800x3D but i though a about it. As you said, may be a better gpu could make more difference in some cases.
Great video, nice to see a benchmark done with more real world PCs. rather than max GPU to show the max difference. It was great that you changed to settings to see how how the performance gap changed.
The 5800 x3d traded blows with the 7700x over at hardware unboxed which was ggreat to see! So i decided to stick with my am4 and pop a 5700x3d in from my 5600x. My main reason was Ghost of tsushima ran bad on the 5600x, a line appeared when moving the character and stutters. When i tested it with the 5700x3d it was buttery smooth and better 1% lows as a play in higher rez. So all in all very happy with the cpu.
Thanks, this is actually a very useful video as most benchmarks are testing one part in isolation and don't get these specific niche results. We have very similar system specs and at 1440p it's more clear to me that the x3d will be overkill for my use case.
Pretty random nitpick, sorry: saying that a system is e.g. GPU-bottlenecked because GPU time > CPU time is incorrect. Frame time is cumulative, i.e. a frame takes CPU time + GPU time. This means that as long as neither CPU nor GPU are 0, neither is bottlenecking the other. To illustrate this, in your case: GPU time = 6ms, CPU time = 4ms. This means your total frame time is 10ms, giving you an FPS of about 100. Now, either GPU or CPU time could drop by 2ms (GPU to 4ms OR CPU to 2ms), in order to reduce your total frame time to 8ms, giving you about an FPS of 125.
remember when you toss a AMD CPU with a AMD GPU enable SAM for up to 15% increase in performance I run my 5800X3D with a 6950TX and still could use more GPU
Yeah, and 5600x won't even bottleneck 7800xt unless you're playing competitive e-games, or what not. At 1440p, ultra settings, 5600x is just fine with a slightly high end GPU for a 120-140hz monitor. Getting X3D is just not worth it in that case. Even 5500 will serve you just fine.
Coincidently I am about to almost the same (except with 5700x3D) upgrade, just because I play a lot of World of Warcraft which INSANELY benefits from 3D cache. And it will help a lot in other games, like Stellaris.
Tks for the update, I would probably get a 5700x3d now, the issue is AM4 platform is limiting future upgrades now as I use an older MB that does not support PCI gen4. I would say that people with anything equal or lower than ryzen 3000 generation probably will see a great improvement ...
I had a 5800X and got a good deal on a 5800X3D a while back. It made a noticeable difference to MSFS... But I just upgraded from my 3070 (which is all I could get during the GPU famine a few years back) to a 4080 Super. I nearly always use VR in MSFS and before, whatever adjustment I made, I was always squeezing every last drop out of my system... the 4080 Super was like lifting a weight off my shoulders.... 30fps with judders instantly became 65fps without. I have now been able to activate things I had forgotten about long ago like ambient occlusion (which adds contrast to the scenery and makes the instrument panel come to life), raymarched reflections (which brings the Downtown Manhattan skyline to life - reflected in the water!)...not to mention shadow maps up to 4096 and a whole host of things I had to do without, but that add immensley to the experience. With everything cranked up, I haven't been able to force it below 30fps yet, but noticeably, it is the smoothness that has massively improved. And I haven't even touched on 2D with DLSS Frame Generation ON. Double frame rate with no real loss of quality (as long as you don't use the built in FPS counter that only shows pre-frame generation figures of course - Afterburner overlay is fine)... You are going to love your 4080 Super! I had to upgrade my PSU so as to prevent any awkward fire type incidents but otherwise, it is brilliant (approx £500 too much, but brilliant)
yeah i have a 5600x and in wqhd benches i never saw huge upgrade for the 5800x3d, will probably get a new pc in 3-4 years then am5, wonder how that will change with the new gpu, i have a 1 week old 4070ti super
Great video ! subbed, Please as i'm having the same 5600X and wanting to upgrade to the 5700X3D/5800X3D in the future , can you test PUBG ? it's a very heavy CPU game, and i really need to see if it is really worth it to upgrade :)
Top review. Really informative for those of us not on the bleeding edge of cpu and gpu tech and deciding what our upgrade path should be. For me w a 5600x, gpu will be first upgrade as I have a gtx1660. Cheers
My 5700x3d just arrived today. I’ll be upgrading from a 1600, so it’s a massive improvement, but it’ll be interesting seeing how much of a difference it makes in different games.
For me it would make total sense from 5800x as I play AAC, EA WRC, DR 2.0 in left seat with COD on my desk when I take a break, 1 system both games running. Haven't changed yet, no need and cash saved buys more solar stuff. Thanks for the up to date comparison, Nott.
In cpu-limited games where that massive 96MB of cache can be fully utilized the X3D CPUs are unrivaled. I made the move from the 3800 XT to the 5800x3D last summer and as many have said and this video proves the biggest improvements will be averages and 1% lows. Take a game like No Man's Sky that can be seriously cpu-limited in certain areas. These are the types of games where the X3D chips improve your experience noticeably.
I was thinking of upgrading my 5900x to a 5800X3d but did some research and realised it is pointless. unless they did a 5900X3d maybe. But even then probably not worth it.
Just bought the 5800x3d and I discovered that there is no room for overclock, so it would be nice to see the same tests with the 5600x clocked at 4850MHz. I really think we wasted money in this upgrade. I should have just upgraded the GPU
I went from a 3700x to a 5800x3d with my 2070super and got in most games round about 10 percent more fps because my gpu finally runs at 100 percent now, while the 5800x3d barely hits like 35 percent. I am planning to get a new GPU later this year to unveil the full potencial of this CPU. Looking at the games I am playing at the moment it is not really necessary and I am pretty happy to have little better fps and a way smoother experience for now. Spending just 300$ to squeeze one more potencial GPU upgrade out of my current system was well worth it imo, considering I likely won't have much time to play video games in the future anyway.
why is your 5600x going 60w in Cyberpunk ? Im used it for 2 years, never went under 74w default bios, was running pbo setup using 110-140w,crazy difference in performans with good cooling, had 79c max on most demanding benchmarks and games. Set pbo on,MB limits.
5700x here, paired with a 7900xtx and I can say that it does make a huge difference having a good CPU (mine is not enough tho). My CPU gives me headaches with all the stuttering that comes with it. I have read many threads on forums for the last months of troubleshooting, and I am sure that having a better CPU will fix the frame drops, stutters and sudden low gpu usage spikes, by that saying, 5800x3d is probably worth it; or at least a 5700x3d.
I upgraded from 5800X (B0 stepping) to 5800X3D. This upgrade cost me around 140€. But was it worth it?! More than worth it! I play Squad, Arma etc. (Online) and got a massive improvement in GPU usage (7800XT@ 1440p). Sometimes the GPU usage dropped to 80% in Squad for longer periods. That is all gone now. It's almost always 92%+, most of the time 95-100%. So it was a huge FPS improvement, both in AVG and 1% lows. You should set Curve Optimizer all core to -25 or -30 (nothing else needed). That will boost your cores ingame to 4,45 Ghz (constant!) and brings you a further FPS and rendering score boost. It will lower your temps around -10c (huge improvement!) and your CPU power consumption will be a dream. No need to go for AM5 at all if you do more gaming than content. For 1440p/1080p it's the perfect upgrade, especially for Online MP Games, which will have massiv benefits. This is a CPU for years to come and already a legend!
@@davidnott_ There is no OC or classic adjusting VCORE with 5800X3D, because it could harm the sensitive cache. So AMD disabled it. And limiting PPT, EDC and TDC can be done, but is not needed, since the 3D doesn't come close to the AMD default limits. Just Curve Optimizer all core to -30 or -25 for undervolting. That's the way AMD want it to be done. Some golden chips can do the maximum of -30. But almost all 3D can do -25. This will give you a huge performance boost in games and even in cinebench. And the CPU will be cool and saving.
@@davidnott_Highly recommended. I'm running 5800X and undervolting dropped temps considerably. Using a Scythe Fuma II cooler and run at a constant 4.7-4.8 GHz and generally run up to around 83* at most under the heaviest loads (85* is thermal throttle temp). This is with ambient temps in the low 70's (Fahrenheit).
i have a 5600 and 3060. I only play D4 right now at 1080p but ended up getting a 5700x3d at a great price and will keep it for a long time which should help with newer games and allow for at least one more major gpu upgrade
i'm practically on the same side. I have a 5600 overclocked to 4,8ghz all cores (max boost stock is around 4,6ghz and not all cores) and i was planning on getting a 5800x3d to give some more live to my setup. But since it's almost impossible to get a good priced 5800x3d i thought maybe i could use a 5700x3D. Many people say it depends on the games you play. IN some of them there are enormous differences, and on some it's just almost the same.
Hey, do you play DCS? I was thinking about uprading to 5700x3d from 5600. My GPU is 6700xt. I am mainly playing DCS, hoping to play Microsoft Flight Simulator one day
I just did this back in December, from my 5600X to a 5800X3D and it was mainly for my flight sim. The improvement has been massive in terms of stutter. Not the average which would not matter in a simulator but for the %1 lows. In other games though it is nice to see more consistent FPS and I don't have to worry about my CPU bottlenecking my 7800 XT.
@@davidnott_ the biggest improvement I got from the Simulator was using FSLTL and PMDG aircraft in like Haneda with almost everything set to ultra. I was holding at least 45-50fps and with AMD fluid motion frames I was perceiving 90-100 fps and it works well with free sync. It is the best experience I’ve had in the simulator! I came from a similar build like you, I had a 3060 Ti and 5600X but I went full AMD

@@davidnott_ that’s awesome! Always nice to see those improvements especially for simulators and the immersion. Funny how we took different upgrade paths for the GPU but I’m on the same boat, I am happy with the 5800X3D until the new platform comes out. I've had my 5800x since November 2021, paired with an Asus B550m, 3060ti, 32gb ram, gen4 nvme. I built before the 3d chips came out. Have thought about upgrading to the 5800x3d or the 5950x. But really, no need. The tiny improvements wouldn't be worth the money. 5950x would be cool for the faster video rendering times, but it's fast enough as is. I'll wait for AM6.
Indeed. I've been playing 4k exclusively for the past several years, and currently running a 5800X, paired with 32Gb dual-rank 3600MHz RAM and a 3080 Ti. No point in updating the CPU, only to AM5 later this year, perhaps. Even the 7600X would do just fine.
@@davidnott_ Yes, for a specific use case the 580X3D is among the best gaming CPUs on the market, and the price is pretty good nowadays. That said, in general, when playing only in 4K, most people are better off saving money on the CPU and putting more bang on the GPU. For example, a modern DDR5 system with a 7600X and a 4080 would run any modern game in 4K very well. My 6yo son has a system with a 5600X and a 3070 I built him last summer, and that system is a beast machine for many years to come, especially in 1440p.
Nice. Ive debated the upgrade for over a year as I have a 3700X paired with a 3080FE 10GB. I tend to play at 1440P high settings and typically GPU bound but there are some games I'm cpu bound in. I hardly ever play low setting competitive games where having a better CPU really shines. Im now also considering the 5700X3D.
@@TheVanillatechTrue. I'll decide by the Spring. I could sell my 3700X and my Meta Quest 2 (upgraded to the 3) and pretty much upgrade for free so I may go that route.
Hello there! Great video man, very informative. I'm planning to upgrade from an i5 6500/GTX 1060 6Gb to Ryzen 5600X/Arc A770 16Gb. Do you believe that 5600x will do the job with the Arc Gpu or i will have bottleneck problems/limited performance on gaming?
I went from a 5600x w/ a 6700XT to a 5900x and noticed next to no improvement in the FPS drops I would get in BF4. I then bought a 6900XT better but still these dips. Wasn't till I found a open box 5800X3D that I noticed a good improvement in my 1% lows. I then sold it a few weeks later for an excellent combo price and bought a 7600X/X670 combo for the same price.
Back when 5000 series released, looking for an upgrade from 2600X while I was thinking about 5600x or 5800x in the end I got 5900x because of the much larger L3 Cache 64MB and I this is the reason why I am not moving to DDR5 yet. Because of issues with 7000 series and the windows thread director, I will probably be waiting for 9800x3D or 9900x which will release toward end of 2024 if rumors are true, and provide substantial IPC gains. Regarding 5800x3D my opinion is that it is a great choice for a DDR4 platform upgrade if you have a really powerful GPU and want to push competitive high-fps titles. For example, a friend who is a competitive player of COD Warzone went through a few upgrades and lastly got RTX4070 Super but will upgrade 5800x for a 5800x3D to get from ~160fps (currently) to ~200fps (educated estimate) without having to transition to a DDR5 platform.
Im uprageded from 5600g to a 5800x3d, and it worth it, becouse that time i didnt wanted to go to AM5. It made a big difference in CS2 (from 200 to 500ish fps).
OMG we have very similar systems, except io run with 16gb ddr4 3600, gpu 3070... thanks for this!! I had been trying to decide on saving my AM4 an going 5800x3d vs AM5 7800x3d, obviously best bang for my dollar is WAITING for the newer platform AM5 boards and deciding on cpu/gpu then
this is useful for me as I have a 5700x paired with a 6950 xt currently but have been eyeing to get the 5800x3d for the longest time but the price never came down until recently when they introduced the 5700x3d, its priced very well right now
@nPower74 Agreed. I'll scoop it for $150 on the used market in 2-3 years. Sell my 5600x for $50. The $280 they want for it right now? Is better spent on the upcoming Ryzen 9000, and jump to AM5.
how are you getting 30something fps at 1080p on a 3070 in MSFS? I have seen benchmarks where you could achieve playable framerates at 1440p on this card.
I run a TONNE of add ons. A lot of MSFS benchmarks you see on TH-cam are from people that are simply benchmarking the game in its out of the box state. Whereas I run an entire separate TH-cam channel dedicated to it, so run non-default planes, airports and various other realise enhancing mods
I'm currently running a r5 5600x with an RX6600 GPU and I was planning to upgrade to a 5800x3d down the line to not need to upgrade anything else. If anything this video kinda reinforced my decision, though I would upgrade my GPU first, probably to a 7700xt
I went from a 3600 to a 5700X3D and my FPS in games like Overwatch, Valorant, CS2 more than doubled! Absolutely worth it for me. Even if you don't play much heavy CPU demanding games you'll def see an improvement!
upgraded my sons pc from a 3700x to the 5800x3d, but not his video card yet (2070 super), so not too much of an improvement yet. when the next round of GPU's come out, he will get a nice bump in performance.
I be interested in your fan curve and temps using this chip. Recently got it myself 5800X3D, 53c max so far in my testing's (using my fan curve). Air Cooling. I use a 3080Ti, and was wondering if it would be worth getting a new GPU as I use my setup for VR play.
almost the same perf as mine 12700k with ddr5 and 6900xt in wz. I had an 5800x3d back in the day and compared it to mine 12700k and 12900k(b-die ddr4) and was impressed how good it was, but ddr5 changed it all, remember that zen4 is still basically zen3 but with more level 2 cache and ddr5 memory support and it is basically as fast as the 5800x3d. a friend of mine upgraded like a year ago to an 5800x3d from an 1600 and he was supper happy, still is. he then upgraded from the 3060ti to an 7900xtx and the alienware 165hz qd-oled. Pretty sure his am4 sys will keep up with most modern cpus for a long time to come at higher graphical settings. but personally I hate the emtpy map runs, all u get to see is the best case scenario, not really like if one looked at the sky or an ocean view but almost, one should also include a view in the middle of it, in action and with more objects/players on. Sure it increases the load on the gpu but also the cpu.
It was day and night difference for me in games like Escape from Tarkov when I upgraded from 5600x to 5800x3d. Also those stutters in Baldurs Gate 3rd act were gone.
When I upgrade from 5600x 4.9Ghz all core to 5800X3D I got less fps in csgo and then cs2 beta official release and x3d gives much more fps over 5600x when I test out, 3d cash was waste I was thinking but worth! I am happy with it and will upgrade upcoming years.
I went from a 2700x to a 5800x. Huge upgrade, after 2 5800xs kept giving whea crashes I told AMD to send me an x3d instead. They agreed haven't looked back since. Rock solid with 3600cl16 32gb kit. Not a single bsod in over a year with a 7900xt.
Yes. You can get any higher tier AM4 CPU. Depending on your main use senario, you can go for a CPU with more cores for productivity, or in my case, I got the 5800X 3D and paired it with a 4070 ti. I have a great gaming experience at 1440p! Note. You may need to upgrade your Motherboard bios, if you upgrade your CPU. Worth checking.
YOu should try CPU dependent games. That's where you see the difference. Like I did the exact same upgrade specifally for Escape from Tarkov and the performance jump is actually INSANE
I got the 5800x3D a year ago coming from a 5600g+6700XT to 7900xtx. The improvement was big, especially in star citizen. But for way better value and basically the same performance I'd highly recommend going for the 5700 x3D, if u have the option.
On the D4 test, I'd say ~20fps on the 1% low is a big improvement. You're more likely to notice the 1% low than the .1% just off of the rate of occurrence. I just bought a 5800X3D myself, albeit because for some reason, 4 cores of my 5700G decided to retire.
@@28469 Only for fps in games the 5800X3D is better. for demanding games i prefer more cores. I am very curious about the power consumption of the 5900X while browsing, youtube, etc... could you say? for the 5800X3D i get surprised when it used 45W simply seeing a video on youtube
@@Ladioz The 5800X3D is significantly faster than the 5900X for games, because of the larger cache (96MB vs 64MB cache). Check the reviews/benchmarks. It was released 1.5 years after the 5900x and was designed for gaming. On average it is 25% faster for games.
@@jimb12312 I think i prefer the 5900X because you can open more programs on the computer and it wont slow down. Sometimes when im playing a game with the 5800X3D and I will alt tab minimize i can feel the computer sluggish, especially while browsing
7600x is amazing CPU. For 6 cores 12 threads can handle every title easily. For gaming you don’t need more cores, above 6 is overkill, specially with these bad optimised games.
I went from a 5600 to a 5700x3d. Main reason was I paid less for the 5700x3d than I did for my 5600. I’m on a 3060 so I don’t see as much of an improvement, but this should allow me to upgrade my gpu to a higher tier card without issues and without having to upgrade the platform at least until zen 6 or later
I see this being worth it if you're really into VR as the 5800X3D's 0.1% lows are 'much' higher thanks to all that cache - that massively helps with disorienting microstutter. I like VR but it wasn't worth paying nearly triple the 5600 (non-X) for me at the time, money was tight.
I'm currently on a 5700X and 7800XT combo and loving it (started with 2700X and RX 580). But I rarely play competitive games and everthing above 90 fps is smooth enough for me. I don't know if upgrading to the 5800X3D would make a noticable difference... monitor is 1440p 144Hz
I went from a 2600X to the 5800X3D. Massive improvements on both average frame rate and 1% lows. Then I swapped out the 2060 for a 7900 XT and got blown away- again.
I went from 2700x and r9 390x to 5800x3d and 7900xt, nice upgrade ❤
@@jarkkoseppanen899 Yeah, went from a 3900X to a 5800X3D with the 7900XT. Not a huge difference in Il2 VR max frames but flying over Normandy Beaches, I have the fps hold steady where with the 3900X they would halve.

Awesome! Similar story to me with flight sim
Then it would be a decent upgrade option for any AM4 owner.

still with 5800x myself and 7900XTX, the cpu is basically useless to upgrade unless you're looking for that potential 10-15% (depends) slight bottleneck that might occasionally crop up in rare cases, and for latest stuff i utilize FSR 3 + Frame Gen mods anyways so it's not like it matters at all at that point
next gen ryzens then i might even update to DDR5 eventually

I also did the swap from the 5600X to the 5800X3D like nearly a year ago. The improvement in my mainly played game DayZ at this time was immense. Playing on 1440p 240hz and the 5600X wasn't capable of delivering any fps more than 150fps. This swap brought me a fps boost of like 100-130fps depending on the situation, what is pretty damn crazy.
It also depends alot on what kind of game you are playing. In the case of a very cpu intense title like DayZ its a night/day difference between this two ones.
Yep, that's what's being missed here, if you're just trying to shove as many frames though as physically possible this thing is a godsend.

Go halfway and get the 5700x3d it’s a lot cheaper.
@@justluke8836 I want to make the most of my AM4 system... saving a little for half the performance improvement doesn't seem that appealing now unless I was planning to upgrade the whole rig to a new socket in the near future.
Video soon!

I really appreciate that you're not using the highest quality preset but actually work at around framerates we would be aiming to play on
Thanks, this is actually a very useful video as most benchmarks are testing one part in isolation and don't get these specific niche results. We have very similar system specs and at 1440p it's more clear to me that the x3d will be overkill for my use case.
showing benchmarks at 1080p low would have been more relevant since you would have been less gpu limited.

The 5600X is only $119.99 right now. Killer deal for a budget gaming rig.
7500f is 140-150$ here😅
Coincidently I am about to almost the same (except with 5700x3D) upgrade, just because I play a lot of World of Warcraft which INSANELY benefits from 3D cache. And it will help a lot in other games, like Stellaris.
Perfect games to flex the 3DVcache!
Cool but even with that CPU you're a bit CPU limited, I'd say 4080/7900xtx and above need a last gen CPU X3d AMD or intel to make the most out of it
yeah i have a 5600x and in wqhd benches i never saw huge upgrade for the 5800x3d, will probably get a new pc in 3-4 years then am5, wonder how that will change with the new gpu, i have a 1 week old 4070ti super

This is awesome I'm doing the same thing. Just got the last 5800X3D off ebay lets goooooo.
In my opinion upgrading from 5600/5600x to 5800x3D is only worth it if you have AMD Rx 6700 xt / 3070 or above that.
I have rx6800 and ryzen 5 5600 should i change to 5800x3d

I was thinking of upgrading my 5900x to a 5800X3d but did some research and realised it is pointless. unless they did a 5900X3d maybe. But even then probably not worth it.
I did the same upgrade last year and it was totally worth it, especially if u do some occasional streaming like I do.
Really depends on the game and game engine. Either a tiny benefit or a huge benefit lol.
Just bought the 5800x3d and I discovered that there is no room for overclock, so it would be nice to see the same tests with the 5600x clocked at 4850MHz. I really think we wasted money in this upgrade. I should have just upgraded the GPU
I’m a flight simmer, too, thanks for the video. Doesn’t it get very hot compared to the 5600 X?
Will there be any performance difference between the two CPUs under 4K ?
If you’re already GPU limited, it’s unlikely you’ll see a difference
I've upgrated from 3600 to 5800X3D a month ago and I am like, wow :D Hope this CPU will be more than enough for the next few years or so
Oh wow, yeah you’ll really feel that upgrade. I could notice from a 5600X, but a 3600 must be wild. Enjoy the upgrade!
Yes! I’m going to have a play with tuning the chip soon. Another video, perhaps! Glad you’re enjoying the chip

IN some of them there are enormous differences, and on some it's just almost the same.
what application do you use to monitor these stats?
Hey, do you play DCS? I was thinking about uprading to 5700x3d from 5600. My GPU is 6700xt. I am mainly playing DCS, hoping to play Microsoft Flight Simulator one day
I just did this back in December, from my 5600X to a 5800X3D and it was mainly for my flight sim. The improvement has been massive in terms of stutter. Not the average which would not matter in a simulator but for the %1 lows. In other games though it is nice to see more consistent FPS and I don't have to worry about my CPU bottlenecking my 7800 XT.
Firm handshakes from a fellow flight simmer
@@davidnott_ the biggest improvement I got from the Simulator was using FSLTL and PMDG aircraft in like Haneda with almost everything set to ultra. I was holding at least 45-50fps and with AMD fluid motion frames I was perceiving 90-100 fps and it works well with free sync. It is the best experience I’ve had in the simulator!
Yep, I’d agree with you for the most part, though flight sim needs every last drop of CPU it can get, and unfortunately for me, that’s my main game!

No bottleneck, pretty good combo. I’d recommend a 6700xt instead though.
Back when 5000 series released, looking for an upgrade from 2600X while I was thinking about 5600x or 5800x in the end I got 5900x because of the much larger L3 Cache
64MB and I this is the reason why I am not moving to DDR5 yet.
Even though some of the games are GPU limited you can see the CPU utilisation for 5800x3D is almost half of the 5600X, a walk in the park
Im uprageded from 5600g to a 5800x3d, and it worth it, becouse that time i didnt wanted to go to AM5. It made a big difference in CS2 (from 200 to 500ish fps).

Note. You may need to upgrade your Motherboard bios, if you upgrade your CPU. Worth checking.
YOu should try CPU dependent games. That's where you see the difference. Like I did the exact same upgrade specifally for Escape from Tarkov and the performance jump is actually INSANE

But for way better value and basically the same performance I'd highly recommend going for the 5700 x3D, if u have the option.
On the D4 test, I'd say ~20fps on the 1% low is a big improvement. You're more likely to notice the 1% low than the .1% just off of the rate of occurrence.
