Very good benchmark, David👍 But, if I can make a suggestion. You should realy activate, besides the "Vram allocation", the "Vram used" stats in the afterburner. Those 2 stats, working together, are very good indicators of what is really happening with your vram during a gameplay. Some games although allocate near 8gb of vram they are in reality using only 6-7gb. Others are indeed using almost 8gb of the total 8gb allocated vram. That's why, sometimes, you are getting very different results although the games are allocating the same amount of vram. Cheers!

Your cpu is outdated… I think. I get wayyy more fps on my 4080 S and 7800x3d

I run a 7800 xt and I average 164 fps with ultra settings . I do not use RT but hey seems like I made a good decision . That is Diablo 4

I don't understand why memory usage at 4k is less than at 1080p? Haha **I see the issue now, it's using more of the system memory at 4k, definitely suffering due to the 8gb frame buffer.**

I use my 4080 super for 4k gaming with everything. Using it with ryzen 7 7800x3d and cl30 6000 speed ram

in some years you need a 4080 for 1080p or 1440p so its a good card for future :D

if you not play hogwarts on 4k rt on dlss/fsr3 all maxed out is 16gb enought but if you want max out it, it needs 22gb ram :D befor 1,5 years at windows 11 max i reached was 27gb, windows needs at this time 13gb ram with discord and a video in opera at 1080p 50fps (idle 6,8gb) at blender windows needs 49,5gb with yt in background with music.... (testet with the pc from my bigsis bcz. she was thinking she needs 64gb for anything... (i call it flex...) at my arch linux now with plasma 6.1.3. and some tools in background i play the same game with 11gb, my linux needs 6,2gb ram with 3 programms, discord, brave and yt at 1440p 60fps videos (idle 2,4gb ram) at linux with blender and yt for music in background it needs 22gb ram so is my 15,9gb enought yes it is :D

Those 1% lows though... I think in some cases it might be worth for the consistency. The worst thing is when the FPS jumps too much and goes all over the place.

Mine went straight to -30 all core - thank you, hard-capped boost😁 (I inched my thermal and power limits down until my CB23 scores started to drop, then left them there.)

Imho the 5700x is the sweat spot.

Unfortunately the 5800X3D has only gone up in price, the 5700X3D however is great value (got one for 172 euro) and it also keeps a little bit cooler

Even Prepar3D version 4 that I run with all the heavy ORBX addons never uses more than around 8 GB of RAM.

They are only using 51% of the cpu for both ,an R7 5700g is the same against the R7 3700x Was not worth the upgrade to the 5700G.You would think it should but no.I even used the same PC and did 4 benchmarks on each they were very little difference.

This is a loaded question because it’s game dependent. The better a game leverages the available CPU cores. iRacing is a prime example of poor CPU optimization. Even a 14900KS will bottleneck a 4080S in iRacing.

Even though some of the games are GPU limited you can see the CPU utilisation for 5800x3D is almost half of the 5600X, a walk in the park

The problem that I have with this test is that you have 32gb in dual channel. But you are running the 16 gb in single channel. That could explain the differences in the 1% lows

And here I am just to watch benchmarks with my RX 570, talking about 1% lows not adequate enough on 1440p with 8 gigs vram, my card doesn't even get those 1% lows as average fps on 1080p in these titles :P Great comparison and thanks for the video.

Not all games take advantage of the X3D V-cache.

Went from a 5800x to a 5800x3d and for a bunch of games I play that are more CPU heavy, yes it made a huge difference. Non 3d CPUs struggle with some games like crazy. So it's dependant on what you play. Hell let loose went from 70 fps and bad 1% lows to tops of 150 fps and smooth game play. On a 3080 10 gb, same with cyber punk on 1440p at pretty much max settings in both games

i run 4090 and 7800x3d and cant hit *stable* 144 frames (that my monitor can display) in path of exile. No such thing as overkill - it all *depends*

great video, not many address the AM4 CPU performance differences. Would be interested to see the same done with some "lesser" GPU's to see if 1080 differences are more significant. Thanks again

RTX 4080, I9 14900K running a ultrawide 1440p Oled monitor and average around 130fps with DLSS Quality On, all setting maxed to Epic. Tiger Bay will defiantly test your FPS.

If you have a choice, ALWAYS be gpu bottleneck. GPU bottleneck gives lower frames. CPU bottleneck gives stutters.

probably worth keeping in mind that 1% & 0.1% are decent indicators in a lot of games for vram limitations, but some games - like halo infinite - handle it differently. these numbers often won't be as affected because the game compensates for lack of vram by not loading in some of the full resolution textures. it keeps framerate (especially those lows) higher, but visuals won't always be fully comparable to a system running with enough vram at similar settings.

Im upgrading to the 5700x3d do you think its worth it, my system is used for game but i run discord, internet, spotify etc on my 2nd screen, is this going to have a negative affect on gaming being the low 3.0ghz

A770 1080p and i get 38ish fps on tsr epice. With xess, i get 46ish fps on high quality.

This game destroys my 4080s/7800x3d @4k without dlss. They need to optimize it badly. Im done until they make some improvements lol.

This is my experience in GZW on a 3070. I'm playing on a 1440p monitor. I use DLSS balanced and get 60-70fps which drops to 45-50 when I ADS a scope.
