NEVER thought this video would pop off like this so I want to address a couple common questions.
    1. Why an X3D chip if you don’t game all too much? Why not used 5900x?
Fair point, but I felt more comfortable buying brand new off the shelf and getting the best of both worlds instead of risking a used chip, which I’ve had varied experiences with used parts in the past. Plus I still link up with some guys here and there for a game night so it’s not a complete waste.
    2. Why lower your refresh rate from 144hz to 100hz?
I didn’t my mean prolong in the sense that the parts would die faster if set at 144hz. I meant “prolong the usefulness of my parts”, because my original config had an easier time pumping a consistent solid 100fps with the more demanding-ish games I play as opposed to 144fps. At 144hz I would notice stutters and drops that felt less comfortable to me than just cruising at 100hz.
    3. 650W isn’t enough for a new GPU?
Like I said I’ve been out of the hardware world for about 5 years and haven’t been SUPER interested in a new card. I did eye up some 7800XT’s since the price was attractive and I saw minimum recommended power of 700W. Then many in the comments said to look into 4070’s it 4070 Supers, which will be O.K. with 650W.
I like to be decently above the minimum recommendations personally, in the past I was definitely an over clock tinkerer. These days it seems like everyone just runs on auto settings so maybe a 4070 or Super would be alright.
THANK YOU for the random sudden influx of views and comments. I APPRECIATE it and welcome your inputs and discussions! I’m not an expert in anything by any means lol.

      @jeremyhunter5954 16 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

your 650w PSU would cover a 4070 although some 4070 models use the 12 volt highpower plug. if you choose a model with this connector type, make sure your PSU is ATX 3.0 in spec. if your current PSU isnt ATX 3.0, then simply select a 4070 that has standard PCIE 6+2 connectors

    • @spyder000069
      @spyder000069 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

@@jeremyhunter5954 Most cards come with the adapter for two standard pci-e 6+2 to the high power adapter. Its been long enough since the connector melt downs that I suspect the oem adapters being sold with new cards are ok. 4070 super is still a good card as long as you can get it for a reasonable price. Holiday season wiped supply out for a bit as well as limited supply due to 5000 series about to launch. You can argue both ways about upgrading right now. While we are at the end of the cycle for gpus if the tariffs hit big when the new administration takes office then expect huge cost increases on all electronics. So the potential for shortages and huge price hikes is just around the corner which means waiting for new designs could be a mistake if you have a strict budget.

Look for a resonably close microcenter store. They typically have some good deals and its a nice change of pace to actually go into a place versus the online ordering we've all been converting to. I just refreshed a machine and the 5700x3d was $179 and the 5800xt was $199 there. Its an hour drive for me but good to fill time on a saturday and you can get parts on a whim. You can also order online and just pickup at their counter if you prefer to avoid people. Also returns process is easy there. They didn't give me the run around on a flaky video card so I was pleased with their service. While your stuttes could have been the video card not keeping up I would also highly advise to buy a few display port cables and try them. Sometimes high refresh rate (especially on my 4k monitors) need better cables. I had to go through a couple because they caused strange problems. Keep the cable length as short as you can get away with. I am not familiar with your editing software (i use power director) but many you can enable gpu encoding. I've done some testing and when enabled it cuts my cpu processing in half or more (you can use the resource monitor in windows). In my case nvidia cards are the most compatible and is cuts my render times in half. So see if you have that option and if so enable it and try it out. Some will argue that cpu encode is better quality but you can try both methods and see the results for yourself. In my case I saw no difference in quality and youtube will lower the quality some anyway. Have fun with your refreshed machine!

Also‚ you might be able to catch a 4070/4070 Super or RX 7800 XT on a discount‚ or even lower price on used market. OFC‚ if no other crisis will f things around again (like Crypto did).

I bought a B450 Tomahawk Max PCB because a friend was upgrading their 1700 to a 3700X back in Nov 2019 and sold me the 1700 for 80 Quid. By the time I sold the PCB, DDR3 and SATA M2 drive I more or less got the upgrade for the £100 I paid for the board. Faster core for core chip than the i7 and 8 of 'em, DDR4 and an NVMe, blew me away with how much faster the computer was for so little money spent. I've only replaced the CPU once so far, I swapped the Zen part for an R5 5500, it was about 100 quid a year and a half ago. I have upped the RAM to 32GB since, and added more SS storage. Oh, and one of those cheap Thermalright tower coolers (it's all you need up to 8 cores on AM4, especially on the 3D chips). Just yesterday I did a really meaningless upgrade (on paper) from 5600x to 5700X3D. I play a couple of CPU heavy games and already felt like I got my money's worth: in The Finals my avg fps rose about 10-15% but my 1% lows are probably 30% higher, and because of that, the game is feeling a lot smoother. GPU (3070ti) utilization is also around 93-96% whereas previously it was 85-90% majority of the time because the CPU was keeping me from getting those sweet, sweet frames.
FAT32 works with up to 32 gig drives. Thank the gods my bios upgrade went smooth as butter. I really hate troubleshooting HW stuff since I'm not well versed in all that stuff.
Looking at your upgrade from the productivity side, a 5700x or 5800x would've probably been a marginally better upgrade, since those CPUs seem to do better in productivity benchmarks I've seen. Higher clock speed maybe? Tho the 3D cache is really good for gaming and is definitely the better choice in the long run.

As someone who was super resistant to switch to Resolve from Premiere for several years, I gotta say it was FAR easier and nicer to move over than I was expecting. It's similar to learning how to drive. The car you drive is different than the other cars on the road, but all the important parts are where they belong and they all still work in pretty much the same way. There was only one game that would always crash my computer at least once but I did a really simple undervolt to decrease power consumption and now it runs perfectly. Just something to keep in mind.

650 is almost the bare minimum. you should probably go with 750 or 800 to be safe. don’t get me wrong, anything above 1000 watts is pretty pointless, but if you’re gonna run a card like that, 650 watts is kinda low

@@hoodlesss I use 550w PSUs on two of my systems. One system is based on a 13400f and a RX 7700 XT GPU (230w TDP). The other system is a 5700x3d and a RX 6700 XT (Also 230w TDP). Even when you take the power spikes into consideration these 550w PSUs still has plenty to go on. The reason GPU manufacturers recommend oversized PSUs is because they don't know what systems people have. Most CPUs are between 65w-100w. However, something like an i9 14900K can go well past 200 watts. PSU calculators are pretty accurate I've found. As long as you have a modern good quality PSU then there is no need to go for insane wattage. A good/decent 650 watt PSU can easily drive a RX 7900 XTX or a RTX 4080 Super.

    • @hoodlesss

Loved the video, and my own journey with PCs has some parallels with yours, CPU and GPU :)
    On your PC
    - The 5700x3d won't do much with the 1070Ti but it will now handle a much more powerful GPU. Though I do find things get smoother.
    - You could use something like "PBO2 Tuner" with the 5700x3d but in my own tests the 5700x3d is pretty well setup and benefit is marginal (my 5700x3d is at -30 all cores will run at 4050Hz maxed out, 13700 in CBR23 vs stock at 13600)
    - Power wise your CPU+bits will probably be around 150w, which leaves you 500w for a GPU. And if you undervolt the GPU you will get smoother performance and easily come in under 300w. However, the PSU needs 2x8pins and I suspect 650w won't have these.
    - I'd look at a RTX3080 or similar level as this is a great 1440p experience. That's what I have paired with my 5700x3d in a cheap B550 board. Look at AMD unless you need raytracing.
How high could you go? Well in my main PC I run a B550+5800x3d+RTX4090+4k Monitor, and it does great. I don't see much benefit upgrading the CPU yet as my monitor (LGC2) tops out at 120Hz and that's fine for my old eyes. BTW my 4090 pulls 350w tops as I have it undervolted, and I lost only a few % performance.
On the USB flashback thing - I always run a "Clean" on the usb via DISKPART, that has fixed some problems I have had (just make sure you don't clean your PC drives)
BTW my original cheap MSI B450 board is still in operation with a 5800x (don't ask) and my old 1070Ti. It started with a 2600x which I broke, then 3700x.

Just upgraded many family PC's this season and had similar experience. MSI B450 with a 2600x to a 5800x (hand me down cpu). No boot. It was a 2018 bios. Had to pop in the 2600 and flash and then swap in the 5800x. Another machine was a msi 470x that has a 3600x that was upgraded to a new 5700x3d. That one went smooth other than I tried to do a traditional overclock using PBO and after 30 minutes of failing to get the bios to overclock I found out the 5700x3d is basically a locked chip. Only could tinker with power draws. These two machines were then pitted against each other in cinebench and the 5800x (overclocked with PBO) handily beat the 5700x3d as expected (something like 15800 to 13700 in R23). So this video's main criteria (video editing with gaming secondary) would have been better served by a 5800x or 5800xt ($199) which is only $20 more than the 5700x3d currently at microcenter. As far as the 64gb ddr4 upgrade in the video the timings on that memory were not great and I am not sure that the additional speed of 3600 would beat 3200 with tighter timings. Might be able to run that ram at 3200 with tighter timings.

You can tune the 5700x3d using PBO2 Tuner software, but the results are minimal. I gained ~100pts in CB-R23 though temps are lower. (use corecycler to test if doing that)
With the 5800x it is definitely worth spending the time to undervolt each core. Not least because the MSI B450 VRM can get hot (depends on which board). I run a 5800x on a B450M PRO-VDH and with its little heatsink and undervolting it does fine, cooled by a Freezer 36 air cooler.

I have 3 5800x and the one 5700x3d that are moving on (b450, 470x, and two b550 boards) and I spruced them up with new cases and new arctic liquid freezer iii 280's. when performing a BIOS update with many diff types of thumb drives (i have the same PNY drive you have), you should go into partition manager and create a second partition with a capacity of 16gb or less. format the 16gb partition as fat 32 (this option will appear with the smaller partition size. then you can copy your renamed BIOS image and use the flashback button

Just a heads up that you CAN format that USB drive to FAT32. Windows natively does not allow it to a certain size. But there are plenty of ways to circumvent that. Do note that it takes forever to format.

I too am planning to upgrade my 5600X to a 5700X3D, since I'm also planning to upgrade my RTX 3070 to maybe the upcoming RX 9070 XT. My 5600X will bottleneck current generation GPUs. I'm still sticking with my AM4 platform and will probably get a new build when AM6 comes out. I'm only aiming to play upcoming titles (Spiderman 2, FF7 Rebirth) in 1440p optimised max settings. The 8GB of VRAM of my 3070 is finally holding me back. Can't even use High Textures on Indiana Jones and The Great Circle...

Looks good, but for you... 5900x would have been better. And it costs pretty much excactly the same (currently about 200€)
I upgraded three 2700x based systems, two with 5800X3D and one with 5900x.
The 5900x beats the former in everything i play(some games would still be better on the X3D parts) and absolutely demolishes the 5800x3d in production.
Sad no reviewers show it anymore. it has 2/3 of the v-cahce of the X3D (instead of 1/3 like single CCD chips), but much higher clock speeds. My systems regularly boosts to 5+ Ghz and can handle 4.8 all-core with PBO.
    Regardless.. a great upgrade :)

You could easily run a 4070 Super on that psu (It's a quality psu, always checks amps of the psu and video card, just as important as watts) even a used 3070 would be quite an upgrade. I'd even run a vanilla "stock" 3080 on that psu. Ryzen cpu's sip power so you can use a "bigger" video card than if you were using an Intel cpu. For mining, I've been using a 3090 on a 700W psu and 2 x 3060ti's on a 650w psu for a couple of years with no issues. My gaming rig is a 5800x3d and 4090 on a 850w psu.

For the games you play, 1070 is also fine. I'm skipping the AM5 platform altogether after upgrading to the 5800x3d. I might have to upgrade my graphics card bu that can kinda wait until next year or year after.
