In regards to the Jake Lloyd hate, I remember watching the behind the scenes stuff for Episode 1 and it showed some of the footage from when they were looking for an Anakin actor, and obviously one of them was Jake reading a scene with Natalie Portman and watching that, I saw exactly what George saw in him and why he chose him. The other boys were very still, very monotone and clearly nervous, but Jake was swinging his legs, showing enthusiasm, at one point he picked up a random little prop and started fiddling with it - not sure if it was intentional or just cuz he was 9 and liked fiddling with toys - but it was exactly how a 9 year old boy who likes fixing things would act, his mannerisms were spot on and I see 100% why George picked him. I think he was good in Episode 1, and it's such a shame that he got hate for it when, as Mark Hamill said, he was a little child just doing what he was told to do.

@FlexyCrash I literally just have standards man, I watch a show and actually pay attention and think about things such as world building, plot, character writing, overall well written dialogue. This is why I can say Andor for example is a better show that anything else Disney put out. Not because I'm a devil that loves the feeling of hating, but because Andor is very well written, the characters are well realized and written good, the world building is the best its been since the OT trilogy, the plot god forbid actually makes sense and isn't full of contrivance and plot holes. And the dialouge sounds like how 2 humans would actually talk. I know you and other people in this comment section hate people like me but we do actually have reasons for why we criticize the things we like instead of blind positively for the sake of positively.

Well, if they did end up taking Shmi with them as well as Anakin, most likely Watto would’ve gone to the Hutts about it. And if the Hutts found out that the Jedi were snatching slaves from an Outer Rim planet, where the Republic has zero jurisdiction, then a war between the Jedi and the Hutts could’ve broken out. Yes, it’s just one slave, but from Watto/the Hutts’ perspective, they could’ve seen it as the Jedi starting a campaign to rid the galaxy of all slavery, something that a lot of Outer Rim planets and factions rely on such as Zygerria, Tatooine, etc.
And with the Trade Federation wreaking havoc and where their position is in the greater galaxy, having a war with the Hutts on top of that would’ve been pretty bad.

Hehehe, I was totally waiting for Eric's inquisitor lightsaber rant... I still go back to watch the old reactions (both HIS initial reaction and Calvin and Rick's) of Twilight of the Apprentice just to chuckle at his annoyance in those scenes.
I totally agree with you on the misuse of Padme in RotS. She had been built up as a strong character in TPM and AotC, then was relegated to the weepy pregnant wife. And I hated that she basically died of a broken heart when she so clearly had 2 good reasons to keep living. But a lot of that is made better if you take into account deleted scenes. The Seeds of Rebellion scenes illustrate that as the war was raging, Padme was exhaustively fighting to keep democracy intact and desperately holding together a galaxy together that was tearing itself to shreds. (This is illustrated even more in The Clone Wars episode, Heroes on Both Sides.) And there are deleted scenes in AotC that show that Padme actually always wanted to settle down and have children, but there was always too much work to do.
So with that added character depth, you realize that she was feeling the massive professional disappointment of liberty dying "with thunderous applause." Then Obi-Wan shows up and tells her that Palpatine orchestrated everything, and Anakin helped him. She doesn't believe him, but decides now is the time to "leave everything else behind while we still can" and just settle down and raise her kids with her husband. And Anakin destroys that too. By the time she got to Polis Massa, her mental health had been so strained, that as an adult, I can now see how she might have thought in her head that she was such a failure that the twins would be better off without her.
But again, it's one of those things that just wasn't properly fleshed out. It could have prompted some really interesting discussions on mental health if RotS actually spent time to explain what was going on with Padme instead of being so hyperfocused on Anakin. Especially when you juxtapose it with the mental strain Anakin was ALSO under during this time, which led to his turn to the dark side. I mean, it's like a kid who is bullied so badly that he mentally snaps, and he either kills himself or shoots up his high school. Padme's the one who kills herself. Anakin's the one who shoots up a school.

The problem with Star Wars fans disliking things is they can't just dislike it and move on with their lives. They have to actively seek outlets in which to spread their hate and dislike and take personal shots at the people who created the things they dislike. It's toxic and unhealthy. Perfect example is Jake Lloyd, at the time a 9/10 year old kid who many disliked in the role of young Anakin. They couldn't just objectively dislike his portrayal and move on. They felt compelled to bully and harrass him online and make this child feel worthless because of a stupid movie role. Star Wars has one of the most toxic fandoms ever.

Relating to the forms critique. We did get a reference in Rebels that implies Jedi use multiple forms. The Grand Inquisitor tells Kanan he favours form 3 to a ridiculous degree. And I’d imagine padawans would always learn their masters form, but could end up liking a different form. And then there is the case with Ahsoka who still uses form 5 like Anakin, however she dual wields and uses reverse grip which adds diversity to the form usage. We also know from Rebels Anakin made adjustments to Form IV techniques.

On the subject of the lightsaber forms - I agree with Eric that a good Jedi should learn every form and technique they can, but I also think that through that process, certain techniques are going to emerge that you'll feel better suited to, or that align more with your personal philosophy when it comes to combat, and there will be certain things that you'll specialise in, and other things that you'll fall back on in the heat of the moment.
Aaron's comparison to martial arts also makes sense. I practice Japanese Jiu-Jitsu (though I'd also love to learn Karate at some point to fill in some of the gaps with some striking techniques), and I know which kinds of throws and locks I prefer by this point, though I still train it all to the best of my ability. So whether you're thinking about it like Aaron is, where the different forms are different martial arts i.e. karate, Jiu-Jitsu, Kung Fu etc., or even looking within one martial art and considering all of the forms as different types of techniques i.e. throws, locks, strikes, etc.
I agree with Eric that the way the concept is often written is restrictive, but I still think the forms make sense as a basic idea - the writing just needs to reframe it as "Obi-Wan is a Form III specialist" rather than treating it like he only uses that form almost every time. Aaron's suggest of blending a few forms when specialising a character makes sense to me - I think of my Jedi character as specialising in Forms V and III, using a strong defense to lever into counterattacks.
Eric is definitely onto something regarding Trakata though. The rationale for neither side using it is dumb, and we should see more of it, as long as it's implemented well into stories.

Yep, I was coming here to say something similar. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure in some of the expanded material, it's stated that younglings get taught form 1 & 6 to cover the basics of lightsaber combat, and as Padawans most Masters will teach them the basics of the other forms to find what suits the student best. Obviously there are also Masters who just teach them the form they personally specialise in, but I'm pretty sure most will incorporate the other forms as well, to give their Padawans more well-rounded knowledge to draw from and create their own style.

On the final topic of not liking the online discourse, this is why I am always VERY careful to say that while I absolutely loathe the sequel trilogy and the majority of its writing, and what they did to the classic characters, I actually really enjoy the new characters and their actors IN and OF themselves (not how they're utilized in the stories) and that's why even though I hate the ST's I believe that Daisy Ridley deserves better and am legit looking forward to what's coming up for Rey and I hope John Boyega can return and finally do Jedi Finn like he should have. I will say I don't like Ben Solo or Kylo Ren on any level, but that isn't because of Adam Driver, he's the lone new character that I just don't like or get.

Loved this video and hearing your thoughts! I knew Eric was gonna mention the inquisitor sabers haha
I also agree about the misuse of Finn in the sequels. I was most excited for Finn's character arc after VII came out, and I really feel like it fell flat in VIII and by the time IX rolled around it was too little too late. I would've liked to see more of how his stormtrooper past affects his presentday actions (for example, leading a stormtrooper rebellion!) Just think his character had a lot of unique possibilities and none of them fully panned out.
Another thing I'd say is that in retrospect, I wish VII hadn't followed the OT so closely to a T, because I think that led to the whiplash of VIII and then the subsequent backtracking of IX. Ofc at the time I was so incredibly hyped and swept up by VII, but with some time and distance, I don't like that VII feels a bit like a soft reset.

Having not finished the video - so unaware if this was brought up - but one thing i hate about the new canon is the fact (at least from my understanding) that the rebellion as we know it in episode 4 only really became an open revolt within a year or so before the start of "A New Hope." For some reason before the new canon material i always assumed the united rebellion had been a significant force/power player in the galaxy for close to a decade before The start of Episode 4, since they seem to be a fairly built up faction and Luke describes the rebellion forces in a manner that seems they're a well known faction. The new Canon established in "Rebels," "Andor," and the "Jedi Survivor" game series imply the unified and open rebellion is a recent development in the galaxy and is still a relatively unknown force. Before "A New Hope" the new canon implies there has only ever been small pockets of different rebel factions that do their own thing

I’m currently struggling with the portrayal of Thrawn and thus far the lack of connection to the six new canon novels about him. All the talk seems to be about connections to Heir to the Empire. And I get it, HTTE is a classic, and Thrawn wouldn’t even exist without it. But his story has expanded and been so much more fleshed out since then. The new canon in my opinion has made his story more tragic, the story of a good man with good intentions who has basically followed the road to hell paved with those good intentions. I realize he’ll likely never be that good man again, but I want to see some hint of who he used to be. Some “humanity” out of him for lack of a better term. Because he’s not Palpatine, he went out of his way to teach and nurture kids and people who wanted to learn. In his youth he was just an awkward kid from basically the backwater nowhere of the Ascendancy. There’s just so much depth there that I hope they take advantage of. To me it would make his story so much more compelling moving forward. And don’t even get me started about the significance of Eli Vanto in his life, lol! I could go on forever 😂
PS: spoilers for the Ascendancy book series: also I’d love to see his long-lost sister come into play. Such a rich dynamic to explore.

Im abit surprised by Eric mentioning the saber forms considering that all force users do learn/studies all forms. They also happen to have more affinity/mastery on a specific form. Only the tcw cartoon as far as we know ever limited them to a singular form (Anakin - Djem So. Obi Wan - Soresu etc)
In the topic of Mace Windu, Vaapad is his own creation but he doesnt actually always use it. He switches according to what is needed plenty but opted for Vaapad specifically against Sidious because he was beaten back in every other way. Though that doesnt stop him from trying to alternate to different forms during said fight as shown in the ROTS novelization.
The saber forms imo seem to draw inspiration in the old fighting ways of samurai/ronin culture where different schools have specific ways of using their Katana or spear. Only masters like Miyamoto Musashi for example ever combined plenty of them etc etc. Their culture etc all based on old japanese beliefs i believe

So many valid criticisms and dislikes of the franchise that I find myself agreeing with, especially the final points. The "fandom" can be so ruthless towards those undeserving of their wrath.
Something I hate about Star Wars, and it's outside the universe, is fans not giving credit where it's due. I'll be so proud of the awesome people who worked on The Bad Batch and see people giving all praise to Dave Filoni. I love Dave, I think he's incredible, but please give the flowers to folks like Jennifer Corbett, Brad Rau, Sean and Deana Kiner, and all the other incredible folks who actually worked on the show in it's entirety.
I guess another thing I REALLY hate, also mostly about fan outrage, is the claims of Star Wars being nothing more than a shell or "Disney-fied" when we literally have some of the greatest additions to the franchise over the last 10 years. Yes, three divisive movies can be a lot, but Rogue One, Andor, TBB, Clone Wars came back, Tales, Mando, comics, games, novels, there have been so many awesome things that people gloss over in favor of what's cool to hate. Like Eric said, to them it's boring to spotlight what's great, and it's much more fun for them to aggressively hate things.

Then there is a whole flip in episode 8 and again in 9 and it breaks the feeling of star wars skywalker saga being one BIG movie. They should have just stayd with one director for the sequels to have a single vision. Like im pretty certain Rian Johnson wasnt going to bring back palpatine and i like his thing of Rey being a nobody that everyone can be special. Then it was changed. I dont like how "force powers" are always talked about in the fandom like it's an RPG. A jedi uses the Force to move an object towards them "that's force pull and it's a neutral ability", someone uses the force to lift something "that's force lift", someone uses the force to nudge something to the side or push something etc etc, they each get their own name. But "force choke, that's an evil power" or "woah, a *good guy* using force crush on a droid??!?!?!". Clearly, force users can use their connection to the Force to apply real-world force and move objects, it's all telekinesis. Each possible movement of an object doesnt need an anime-style move name that the user could call out. If a Jedi can apply upward force to a droid, and downward force to the droid, and they're strong enough to do it at the same time, clearly they can crush the droid. How is this a "darkside power"? Obviously when it comes to telekinesis there are evil ways you could use it (like choking someone for torture etc), but throw the RPG logic out the window, it doesnt use different evil forcepoints to push something from 2 directions at the same time.

My biggest gripe with Star Wars is the format to which it is released. We get the Episodic Movies, which furthers the timeline. And then we double back on the timeline to fill in gaps, instead of steadily progressing forward. So if you're like me, and you didn't like the Sequel Trilogy, give it 5 to 6 years and none of your complaints will be founded because we plunged all the holes you thought were there. So all of the Mandalorian is about how cloning helped Palpatine return - when they could have came up with something better for the movies. And I guess a second thing is that they're retconning the comics. Kanan specifically; his comic doesn't fit anymore because of Bad Batch.

Its also important to note that all padawans must learn form 1 as its the most standard (almost like learning the basics). someone like Dooku is an elegant and coordinated dualist which is why he uses form 2 so well. precise and timely attacks to aggressively overcome an opponent. But leaves the attacker open to more attacks themselves naturally. comparatively to someone like Kenobi who studied form 3 and was therefore a defensive taction capable of withstanding large attacks with his lightsaber alone but would leave him lacking extensively as an attacker and thus his strong developments within the force and his ultimate reliance on that trust just like his master.

I didn't realize until pretty recently that they even used force speed in ep 1. I always just kinda thought it was an editing/vfx mistake

It does look like a glitch. I never noticed it either until the red letter media review

Simply the fact the sequel trilogy was not planned as a trilogy from a story perspective and you can tell even more now as years go by and you re watch them. I just wish they had a clear vision for the story instead of just letting a director for each movie do whatever they want as we saw it just clashes and creates lazy storytelling/writing if the next guy's vision doesn't coincide with the previous. Which ultimately is why JJ set up things in 7 which went nowhere in 8 because of RJ wanted to do his own movie so when JJ ended up returning for 9 which we know was not the plan originally, you can see how disconnected certain characters and storylines where throughout the trilogy. A perfect example of this would be how the Finn character was handled as JJ clearly planned him as being force sensitive which is set up in 7 then forgotten about in 8 but then shoehorned into 9 towards the end but by then there was no real time to develop this element of the character so ultimately ended up being pointless.

Star Wars should have to be more serious and more more darker tone, atleast like the Old Republic Cinematic trailers.

They should delete the scene where rey heals the snake and just have kylo do it for her so it seems more special, so canonically its kylo and grogu who can heal

I just cant have the approach eric has, just not possible. If something feels off or just bad story telling or whatever, i cant unsee that. One of my absolut biggest gripe with Star Wars is that the Empire or bad guy in general is always competent behind the scenes or offscreen or just spoken of, but their are always being portrait as the clumsy stupid or whatever, i always think to myself, how the hell did these guys becomes the ruler of the galaxy

I hated the ship that fen left being stalked by the star destroyer waiting for it to run out of gas , and fenn could just go and come back no problem ! The rose girl ramming Dennis snow scraper !! Rose was the worst character of all time completely shoe horned in !

It's not something I hate but I dislike that ahsoka wasn't animated, it was basically rebels s5 and I would have preferred it animated personally

I just wish they kept moving forward, I wanna see past the sequels. The past is good, but let’s leave it there.
Big fan of forward momentum in franchises.
