Ehh, it was the exception not the rule. Many of these weird stories like pretty much all the ewok stuff wasn't referenced pretty much anywhere else outside of their own stuff and wasn't truly considered part of the rest. Same goes for stuff like the holiday special and the early star wars marvel comics for example. It's a weird spot the old weirder stuff was in but it was pretty much not considered canon by pretty much anyone just like the infinities stories which were star wars what if scenarios.
Pretty much all the weird stuff is 70s and early to mid 80s stuff.
It was a non canon one shot anyways.
I love this! There are some crazy and wicked stuff that happened in legends, the writers had maybe too much freedom haha

As I recall, the Triclops thing gets even sillier: I think there was argument over whether Triclops was the actual son of Palpatine, with someone claiming that his third eye was not in front of his skull, but in the back.

No, it was that there was an imposter son named Trioculus who had three eyes in the front. Triclops had two eyes in the front and a third in the back.
This was an actual book.

I liked this series. The main character was a kid (revealed to be triclops' son) who was raised by a droid in a Jedi temple. But if I remember correctly Triclops was palatine's son but was actually a pacifist, the imposter was just using his connection to raise up the empire. @@onenerd9573

LOL I wondered if the Triclops thing was gonna show up, and sure enough it was fact number one! 🤣 I think that was the first Star Wars book I ever read, way back in the 90's. Like Eric says, some of Legends is great, and some of it is ridiculous.

Would love to see a legends character tier list. There's so many great characters sprinkled throughout the timeline. The obvious ones like Thrawn, Mara Jade, Jacen , Jaina, etc are great, but there are some other characters like Kyp Durron, Corran Horn, Talon Karrde, who might be a bit less known, but I would argue are all A-S tier.
Yes! I would love to see Talon Karrde and Corran Horn come into the canon because I loved both those characters. I think it's time to accept Mara Jade will never be (😭) but having Karrde would be a great nod to her and he could slot on so easily into the Mandalorian or similar show!

It's the same as Skippy the Droid. It's never been canon in the Legends continuity.

The only knows I didn’t know where the Crown Jewels, which I still guessed because if they had been a time Vader knocked over a bunch of stuff it would’ve been in Tag and Bink and well there isn’t a scene of that in those comics. And the Ghost girl friend, well like Aaron I know about the Ship it took place on I haven’t memorized it, but I also know Luke didn’t cause any extra galatic wars so it couldn’t have been the second.

For context: Mt. Sorrow is not really sentient mountain. It's more of how Ewoks perceive their deities. For us, some people worshiped Ganesha, an elephant looking god. For them, it is a mountain

Alos it was a comic based off that 80s cartoon and 100% geared towards children. Kinda unfair to consider it Legeends or as something Legends got wrong or whatever

Tbf Jar Jar's dad and the Indiana Jones crossover weren't exactly canon to legends, neither was the Ewok crying mountain since it was comics for that 80s show. Way before the Thrawn trilogy which is where most fans believe Legends continuity staarted. Palp's three-eyed kid was retconned away as a fictional story told to children as well
but Luke's Ghost spaceship girlfriend is completely canon to Legends lol. She even becomes an important plot element in the Fate of the Jedi series.

Thank you for further confirming that A lot of the more extreme criticisms for newer Star Wars material is nostalgia bias or trolls.
I am not saying the new material is flawless, but it definitely does not deserve the hate it gets at times. especially in light of this video. If Disney made what is essentially a care-bear mountain in current canon, the people who still wish for a return to legends canon would loose their minds but it’s existence in Legends is completely looked over by those same people.
The issue is, the sequels pale in comparison to legends because legends gave us a perfect sequel trilogy already. there are probably 50+ books that are better than the sequel trilogy. And I actually kind of enjoyed the movies. I thought they had their issues, but I thought they were entertaining and had some really cool parts. And the first, Force Awakens, is a good movie.
I would take everything Zahn wrote, the entire New Jedi Order, Legacy of the Force and Fate of the Jedi series over the sequel trilogy. There's a lot of other good books throughout the timeline as well. Sure there's some nonsense, but you have to remember, there are 202 Novels/Short Story Collections, plus comic books and more in the Legends Canon. Obviously there's gonna be some Bantha dookie.
@@snerdterguson I agree that Legends has great content. My problem is that people forget that the higher ups at Disney and Lucusfilm are actively bringing back that content. Vader’s Castle, Grand Admiral Thrawn, Force Projection, the Krait Dragon, and Boba Fett getting out of the Sarlacc pit are all examples of this. Which shows no signs of stopping in the future. With this in mind the Sequel trilogy and legends should not be compared like we can only have one. Because many things are being brought back and anything that is not is still in the Legends books to be enjoyed.
I also agree that the Sequels have flaws but many of fan criticisms were overblown or simply not problems. For example there is nothing wrong with making Luke jaded from a story telling perspective. This complaint by fans is simply nostalgia for the idealized Superman like version of Luke from legends which is still there in Legends books and comics. They are also filling in the holes that the Sequels left which many people who point to those holes do not acknowledge. Ramming with light speed has been explained in one of the cannon books to cause wreckage from the collision that become projectiles traveling at the speed of light which is why it is not used in combat as the trajectory of the wreckage can not be predicted or controlled. Another example is Project Necromancer which is likely going to give us insight into how the emperor comes back.
@@gummybearchewy5444 they literally can’t actually do what you’re saying. They’ve brought in characters. Cool. I like that. But the thrawn trilogy simply can’t be done in the current canon. They’ve already introduced him, other characters are already set in stone. You can bring in Mara Jade, but you can’t make her Luke’s wife, the Emperors hand. There’s no Han Solo to father Jacen and Jaina, and they were already replaced by Ben, who should be the son of Mara and Luke.
Like I said. The issue was they already had the perfect sequel written and instead of using it, they cannibalized it for parts.
@@snerdterguson of course it’s not going to be a one to one representation. Those story’s have already been told like you desire. So it would be lazy and boring on the writers part. With long time fans already knowing what is going to happen.
Perfect is subjective and close minded, it is also a great example of the Nostalgia bias that I have been talking about. Everything has room for improvement or different interpretation.
Disney does not owe us the stories as they were and in some things, I think they have done better then the legends counterpart. The stories are much more consistent now in regards to the over arching continuity. Current canon has small contradictions sure but Legends had an entire tier system for what was and was not canon. Even then it was difficult to determine what was the canon story. For example Shak-Ti has multiple deaths. So I am glad that Disney has thankfully done away with it. While the individual fan can still use it as a rubric for their personal value it is not needed anymore. It is so much simpler for everything to either be equally canon or not canon at all.
Legends also had a severe problem with power creep as shown by the crazy power level of the villains. For examples a sith that could not die unless he wanted to, a sith that had to be forced into a Star to die, the mortis mother that had a wide range of powers including illusion, shapeshifting, duplication, and mimicry. Lastly a sith that drained an entire planet of its life. Luke was the same way with him very much becoming a Superman like character. If there was a force power chances are that legends luke could use it. Luke had feats of strength with no tole on himself including shielding himself from a direct hit from an AT-AT, manipulating a black hole, contacting every living Jedi At once regardless of where they were in the galaxy, and making himself immovable. When you have a hero that can do anything regardless of the toll it takes away the stakes. Luke In canon however is thankfully much more grounded with his greatest force feat actually having a price at the end of it that being his force projection at the end of the last Jedi where he dies as a result. While he did come back as a force ghost there is a reason why Force ghosts rarely do more then give counsel and I am sure the same will be true for Luke going forward.
Most of these are from ambiguously non-canon stuff to Legends. Only Luke’s Ghost Jedi girlfriend was ever actually important to the mainline books of Legends
Like it’s pretty unfair to take joke comics or wacky one-offs from the marvel comics as super serious canon when it came out before Legends even really began

Luuuke isn't a real thing. Luuke is for the Thrawn Trilogy, but that's it.
Luuuke was made as an April Fool's joke and not actually a canon element of the Legends continuity.
Luuke is from one of the most beloved books in Legends. The name was also never said by a character, just an out-of-universe name so the writer wouldn’t have to write “Luke’s clone” 200 times

Having read roughly 200 novels in the Legends Canon... Can confirm. Some of it gets downright ridiculous.
I remember talking with my friend (who likes the Sequels a lot) about our disagreements with the franchise. I pointed out how lame Luke really is in Disney canon compared to the original "Sequel" books and he said something like "Nah I doubt he was really that much better." I responded by pointing out the fact that originally, Luke learned how to harness Force lightning without using the Dark Side. He just flat out didnt believe me until I looked it up for him haha.

I remember on their main channel at the beginning of this year they stated they wanted to get to 1 million subscribers. I laughed at that and thought "lol not at the rate you post the more popular show reactions". I think they react to too much and their editor(s) get bogged down.
lol yeah, even as a long time fan of the crew that shizz was pretty ambitious. Personally I don't think it's they react to too much that bogs them down (although that is a huge part), rather their own self-imposed rules they've set for themselves. As time has gone on it's become less about a group of friends getting together to watch some shows and more of a flat out 9-5 job it seems. Kinda becoming the Walmart brand of reactors, a lot less "unique" while "selling" a bit of everything.

Seriously though, this was just a fun little game that Eric came up because yes, there’s a lot of stuff in Legends that is absolutely absurd. This was not even scratching the surface of that iceberg.
Eric has also said multiple times that he does have issues with some things in the Disney canon, as a lot of people (including myself) do. However, we don’t let those few issues we have ruin our broader experience and love for Star Wars. Something that some self-proclaimed “fans” seem incapable of doing due to their irrational hatred of everything and anything Disney. It’s sad because, despite some pretty bad misses here and there, those people are missing out on some phenomenal SW content.

So here is the long and short of it.
You can subjectively like anything you want.
For example I love Waterworld (the movie), but I know that the movie sucks balls.
I subjectively like Return of the Jedi more then Empire Strikes Back, but I know objectively that EBS is a better film.
Subjectively you have every right to like the sequels. The moment you try to convince me they are good, you are wrong.

The idea that because some legends content is silly (mostly comic books, and short stories) it somehow excuses the MAIN MOVIES (7, 8 & 9) for being trash is about the silliest argument Eric has ever attempted to make in his long history of being a Disney Star Wars shill.
No one is saying some of the Expanded Universe wasn't silly, and bad.
Had they made a movie about Palpatine's 3 eyed son, or Luke dating his ghost possessed padawan then they would be rightfully shit on, just like most of the fandom shits on the sequels.
