Getting a lot of crying from Rise of Skywalker Fans over my Star Wars Plotholes list. Perhaps I should change to "Top 13 Plotholes and 27 Stupidest Moments (that aren't necessarily massive plotholes but still go against canon & hurt the film)". Do you think that would help? Perhaps I should title it Top 40 Stupidest Moments?

All of these visual dictionaries remind me of something Joe said during his Destiny review: "If I have to go outside the game to understand the story, you have FAILED as a writer."
Yes. Exactly what I was thinking. I was telling my buddies after we saw the movie that we would probably have to buy the books as DLC to understand the story 😂.

@@danielroden9424 Also, are we going to just accept that the dark side of the force is hereditary apparently? It was my understanding that the dark and light side were both paths that were learned and were more akin to religions than bloodline bullshit.
@@Crazieyboy15 quite. the dark and light; both are the force. dark and light are simply terms and aspects used by those who cannot understand it in its entirety. force sensitivity itself can be hereditary, and predispositions can exist if one is born under the influence of one aspect, such as the Sith race being largely pre-disposed towards the dark due to generations of Sith sorcery meddling in their bloodlines, but they are not absolute. outside of that most extreme example, predispositions are akin to mutations due to exposure or racial traits, not inherited from specific individuals..

Rafael Rodriguez you’re seriously gonna think that Rey Palpatine is more advanced in the force than Obi Wan who was trained by Qui gon and presumably as a youngling by the likes of Yoda? * mentioned this above, but it's a good place to note it again * = It's clear that they used the Dark Empire comics series as a strong basis for Rise of Skywalker. In that series, Emperor Palpatine had basically become so powerful in the Dark Side of the Force, that he had 'found out' the way to do what he'd hinted to Anakin back in Ep-III (cheat death / live forever) // sort of. By using the Dark Side power of "Transfer Life Essence" - Palps was able to expel his 'soul' from his aged and sickly body, and move into specially prepared Clones. He would "awaken" - looking like his younger self again, in that new form - essentially "living on". The catch, as with much Dark Side powers, is that it corrupts the user (and Palps is especially wicked and powerful in the Dark Side, so the effect is even greater) and his Clone bodies would fail and turn withered (like he is in Rise at the start) faster than a "real" Human ever would. So it's not perfect. /// In the Dark Empire series, Palps explains he was just barely able to use the power, seconds before his physical body was destroyed in that reactor shaft on the Death Star, where Vader tossed him -- but the lack of preparation for the surprise attack, and the fact the station blew apart minutes later, meant that his 'soul' was scattered and disjointed - and it took him many years to "float through the void of space" (so to speak) to finally reach the hidden world where his Dark Side / Sith acolytes had prepared the Clone bodies for him. //// The Rise of Skywalker movie only VERY BRIEFLY hints at what I just laid out there, with the lines about "Unnatural Dark Side Powers / Sith Alchemy / Clones" - - but I think J.J. should have had at least a minute long monologue by Palpatine to Kylo, when they first meet, where he actually SAYS all that I just said above. It would have made Rise a LOT more understandable for many fans - especially those who never read Dark Empire, by Dark Horse comics - all those years ago :-)
The palpatine you see is actually a clone that's holding the force essence of the dark lord. That clone is incapable of holding all that raw power and is such decaying. That's why he needed Rey. To transfer his essence to her.
Major plot hole i just discovered: If Palpatine broadcasted a message saying that in 16 hours he would wipe out the galaxy or whatever, why did General Hux need to betray the first order in order to get them that information? When it was broadcasting to the entire galaxy? Everyone already knew. The opening crawl said that the whole galaxy knew, but they said it was information they had to decode. They literally retconned their own movie in their movie.
“Who are you?” “I’m Rey” “Rey who?” “Rey’d Shadow Legends is one of the most ambitious RPG projects of 2019. Just look at the level of detail of these characters! If you use the code in the description you can start with 50,000 silver and join the Special Launch Tournament!”
I’m going to stop thinking about these movies cause it makes you question everything. As far as I’m concerned Luke got drunk and had some death sticks after episode 6 and this is all a hallucination.
Actually the only way out of THAT, Disney has - to make it all 'Legends' and to start over. And actually makes sense, cus the nightmare starts as a version of real events that happened to him, continues with some tipical "run away" thing during which something starts to nag at you, like Hyperspace not working as it should, everybody starts to throw jokes at each other randomly, Leia flies in space and so on... And as such nightmares go, it ends both on the scariest, and most absurd, things teleport, ships teleport, red thingie through which you should plot a course, you get the picture.. I'd recommend a good doctor to a person having such a dream... And to throw away those deathstiks and go and rethink his life!
Personally, I remember when enjoying movies for movies was really fun. Not dissecting everything single little bit to enth degree. Zaps the fun right out of all of it. I agree, I think some people spend more time waaaaay over analyzing movies than living their lives.

@@viniciusvyller9458 yes but the way they did it makes no sense, Palpatine got it because his master taught it him, it is possible that Kylo was taught this by Palpatine but they seemed to meet the firs time in Episode 9, and Rey wasnt taught it at all... An explanation that could have fixed this was that they're a force diad, tied to the force and can only heal each other, but she heals a giant snake so no.
SkaterBlades she didn’t kill him. He killed himself. She merely reflected his own lighting onto himself. Still stupid tho. I agree it’s kinda ridiculous but that’s the “logic” behind it
@@Fencepost55 that logic still makes no sense tho. if a jedi deflect a blaster bolt back to its shooter, killing him, is that suicide by the shooter then??
It goes deeper than that. She was going there to kill him in the first place. If he had just sat there and said nothing she would've killed him. But he told her that he was gonna take her over and then she didn't kill him (until she did it at the end). But hey, this is the genius that broadcasted to the galaxy that we was gonna attack them in 16 hours when there was zero tactical reason to do so

A HUGE #41. For all of Palpatine's existence he has always lived by THE RULE OF TWO. A Master and an Apprentice. Continuing, Palpatine has always had someone UNDER him, an Apprentice or servant, but always keeping himself alive and at the top no matter what. From Darth Maul, to Dooku and Grevious, to Darth freaking Vader, they have everytime been there to serve him, specifically, with him being alive. Now here is the problem. Palpatine's goal is to get Rey to strike him down so his life force will live in her. WHAT THE F...? This contradicts Palpatine's entire entire life motivation. His goal wasn't to live on in someone else, his goal was to always be at the top, never die, and always have someone serving him, henceforth the rule of 2.
Doesn’t him living inside her give him control, so technically there is now a single being, Palpatine, who’s got a fresh young body to take on a new apprentice?
@@Tommmmmmmmmmmm I disagree, I believe the idea is him actually living. What would Rey do, just resist the temptation of listening to his motives and ideas? That's not good enough for Palpatine, he desires absolute power forever with an apprentice beneath him, that's how he's always operated. I get your point about the fresh new body to essentially take over, but in my opinion there is no star system in the star wars universe where Palpatine would willingly want to be killed.
@@ethanstechworld207 to be honest, i didnt watch the movie, but hearing a lot of the stuff it sounds a lot like they tried to copy of the old republic (which does not work for Palpatine and the rule of two) Like palpatine want to get strike down so he can take over rey's body sounds a lot like Valkorion wanting to die to take over the Outlanders body. Don’t forget that since Leia, Luke, and Ben were all Skywalkers, then they killed them all off, that means that there are no more Skywalkers in Star Wars. Thank you Disney, you killed off all of what the main movies in the other trilogies were about.
it's kinda good.... means we can move forward and fast forward 10-50 or 100 + years later , without any skywalker BS like this movie showed and ruined everything from the past 8 films made
Daniel Doiron Star Wars isn’t very good without a Skywalker. They’re literally the main characters of the story. Star Wars is the story of Anakin Skywalker and his fall to darkness. Only to have his son step in and save him. I have no interest in Star Wars without some relation to the main story. I couldn’t care less about and side lore.
@Haku infinite Han is not a skywalker. Him being dead or alive is irrelevant. If you want more skywalkers then Leia needs to have a child we don't know about or Luke had one. Everyone else is irrelevant.
Maybe Luke and Leia have a distant cousin out there. Like, Shmi Skywalker's grandpappy had multiple kids, who had kids, who had kids. Episode X could be about one of these cousins. But seriously, I understand a lot of people love Star Wars for the lore, but for me it's all about the characters. That's a big reason why the OT will always be the best for me, because Star Wars for me is those main characters, and the PT and ST are not. So the fact that all the Skywalkers are gone seems like a corporate move to get us to care about Disney's original characters and not the ones on which the entire franchise was built.

What if i told you tht they actually got Hayden to return as anakin, as a force ghost, to help train rey, and tht he was in 2 acts of tht movie? Well, thts actually wut happened. They literally brought the actor back to play anakin, and then cut him out because Kathleen said "hed take too much time away from our original characters". @Cryer24597 haydens acting was fine, but even if your opinion was fact, thts irrelevant. They had him come on for 2 acts of the movie, then scrapped him in favor of their even shittier characters. The movie is called rise of skywalker, and didnt even include anakin. What in the fck? I have a hard time believing yoda would appear as a force ghost to luke, but not anakin. At all. Let alone for his grandson who fell down the same path he did. Cutting him from the movie was a dumb decision, whether or not you like haydens acting
@Cryer24597 lmao ok. Just disregard my other points then. You dont like an actor therefore every other point i made is mute. Gotcha. Anakin was a slave essentially kidnapped by a cultist order and then told to never display emotions, all in the while having a poorly written romance thrown in. How in tf was he supposed to portray tht any better? The directors told him what to do, and he did it. Your issue should be with the directors decision making, not the execution from the actor. Clearly he did what the director wanted him too, otherwise the director would have chosen a different cut. Shitting on the actor is like blaming a paint brush for a painting being shit. Is it the brush's fault or the painters? But im sure youll just respond with a lazy one or two sentence "gotcha" and keep on ignoring my points
There's one you missed: Finn says that Endor is where the last war ended, even though it is established that the final battle of the Galactic Civil War was on Jakku... which is a planet and backstory that JJ Abrams HIMSELF CREATED.
To be fair Finn didn't know Storm Troopers had Jet Packs; despite being a former Storm Trooper and pretty much all of Star Wars long establishing Jet Packs as a thing. So Finn isn't the sharpest child soldier......in fact JJ pretty much forgets Finn is a child soldier; hell even in "The Force Awakens" Finn acts nothing how I would expect a child soldier to act so yea JJ can't do lore/world building for shit.

My theory is all of Rey’s lightning was concentrated on one ship. So it destroyed it, but Palestine’s lightning was spread over a MUCH larger surface area diluting it, causing it to be less deadly
Though Rey couldn’t control her force lightning. It was the first time and caused by anger and sadness from Chewie being taken away. Palpatine knew how to control his lightning and his anger and madness drew him to want to destroy things. Rey didn’t know how to control it shooting a bolt of lightning, it would take a lot of training to fully be able to control and as you can tell Rey got angry in the rise of Skywalker and crushed the training droid, she couldn’t control how she used her lightsaber which she had used for a while so she wouldn’t be able to control it.

Anakin:" I need to figure out how to stop my wife's death im even willing to turn to the dark side" *Force healing exist and is easy to learn* Anakin:"Im gonna ignore that"
There are comics that show that mainly jedi concelers (probably spelt that wrong)were able to master force healing which was a hard ability to master and Anikin tried to force heal and failed.
The thing about force healing, is that it has been a part of SW for some time now in the extended canon. BUT, it was always explained and used with logic. They only used to heal non fatal wounds, and even so it was a very hard technique, and required immense concentration. Plus it is very taxing on the user. That's why we didn't see every Jedi running around healing everyone. I know, people will immediately jump and say "bUt bAbY YoDA uSed iT, aNd, hE's aN iNFaNt!" Yes ... and all we know about Yoda's race is that they are highly in tune with the force, so much so, that the few members in lore were all at the rank of Master. And it adds up, if we consider that a 50 year old member is still considered an infant, yet it could wield the force faster than it can talk. Since they are so helpless and weak for so long, the force is their only self defense. It was quite convenient that Mandalorian was released 2 days early, and Baby Yoda used the same ability just 24 hours before the movie release with absolutely no fucking training what so ever, only based on his connection to the Force. And don't forget how drained he was after using it. They are basically using that as a justification for Rey. For whatever reason, Kylo also used the same ability despite never actually learning it from anyone. He just saw Rey using it and BAAAM. And just one use killed him ... Palpatine used a very advanced version of that ability as he was literally sucking their life force and brought his dead husk of a body back to its prime. God, if only Palpatine ever had an apprentice that was basically a broken husk, that could have used such an ability to fix himself slightly up ... I know, the movie states how big of an anomaly Rey and Kylo is together ... which is bullshit, and that's what Palpatine drew from. Last I checked the Sith drew on the negative spectrum of emotions like fear and anger, not some link. Force Bonding is also not a new thing for SW. It's something that develops between 2 entities with strong emotional connection. Two people who want to kill each other for 2 and half movies (which was about 3 years in time) sure as shit didn't develop strong emotions for one another ... In the expended lore it's limited to convey feelings, emotions or images between the 2 entities over great distances. But it's never been used as postal service to transfer physical items. I recon Obi Wan had a stronger connection to Vader based on their past alone ... so I wonder why he never sent a mini nuke after him trough Force Postal Services ... Or if this link was created by Palpatine, as explained in TLJ, why the fuck is he so surprised. Plus the movie basically states that Rey is strong just because of her blood line. Being born to a strong Jedi or Sith only gives one the aptitude to become a strong force user, but it doesn't inherently make one strong. Palpatine horded the forbidden knowledge's, and learned all his life to become the Sith he is. Anakin was born of the Force, a true anomaly, and still needed to learn. Luke is the descendent of Anakin, and still had to be tutored. Ben was thought in the ways of the Jedi since childhood -- also a grands-child like Rey. Rey followed Luke around for a few weeks, was thought 3 things, then spent a year on a jungle planet with 5 books and Leia teaching her ... was more powerful then any Jedi or Sith before her. People keep saying to let things go just because it's fiction. But the thing with fiction is that it still needs rules and logic to which it abides in order for it to make sense in its own universe. Otherwise its all just a collection of random chaotic events.
@Nick Caldwell Eh, Rowling clearly pulled a lot of stuff out of her ass to make the stories work, especially in Deathly Hallows. Not as bad as RoS did, mind, but HP is a long way from being airtight.
Great comment ...but to be fair ...the first 2 movies take place TOGETHER in the time of around a week ...so Rey was stronger than any Jedi or Sith in like a week ...she basically picked up a mountain without breaking a sweat , somehow was an expert pilot , the first time she flew , knew more about the falcon than Han and Chewy ..etc etc ...it’s all so stupid
@@bjrmagic1 To be fair she did mention to Finn that she only flew ships in the atmosphere her entire life. It's still ridiculous that she's better at flying the Falcon then Han.

This one item creates multiple plotholes and it is not even needed, seeing that there is already too much going on in the movie. How is that possible?!
Maybe I'm wrong here but I think u don't have to be a sith to be a dark side force user right? The nightsisters weren't sith but definitely used the dark side of the force? Also in clone wars dooku had two apprentices assaj and savage while being apprentice to palpy. I'm not trying to defend the sequels btw just trying to clarify a point.
@@isiraratnayake9491 Except its stated dooku doesn't really consider them apprentices just tools like assassins. He confides this with sidious stating hes just lying too them too use them.
Well it was only established by Darth Bane, the rule of two. So there were many sith before so it stands to reason that when the sith became the hunters and not the hunted (I.e. they rule the galaxy as an emperor) they might just drop that old relic rule and train however many they want. Not that I’m protecting the movie at all, mostly just this one caveat.
@@brassknucklehead1083 except that the rule still applies I don't see a reason to expand the sith considering that having multiple sith cause fracturing because they fight for power so at most the sith are 3 and mostly to have the master killed and replaced by the apprentice and their apprentice while there may be others with the power they are not sith they are at most assassins and even potential apprentices are often this such as Ventris and Starkiller
Im pretty sure that is there because Sith are so power hungry that they will attempt to kill others to steal their power, so the rule of 2 is more a happening rather than a rule.
It is really stupid that ships that can destroy planets need a router to fly out of a storm. My solution is to form battle groups of 10 and fly out one at a time.

Every plothole can be resolved with the same answer: A space wizard did it! Also, Lando made a Facebook event about a raid to area 51, I mean Exegol, and it went viral.
This trilogy is just getting worse and worse with age. It’s fascinating discussing it. It’s a direct contrast with marvel, which, say what you will about how formulaic they can be, were meticulously planned out over 25+ movies. Disney couldn’t plan just one trilogy, just THREE movies
Rob Nix True because the mando was attacked by separatist droids in his childhood and the Mando includes Stormtroopers wile also being 5 yrs after Return of the Jedi. It’s the best!
It’s not just because Jon Favreau is at the helm, but it’s also because Dave Filoni is apart of the project. The man who created Clone Wars, which is the best piece of Star Wars media ever created since the original movies. Dave Filoni has recanonized and brought back so much amazing lore from the original Legends canon and has introduced us to so many interesting characters, planets, story arcs, and conflicts. George Lucas has also stated numerous times that Dave Filoni was like a son to him, and if he wanted anybody to be his successor, it would’ve been him. Instead we got stuck with clueless as fuck Kathleen Kennedy who meddles into the creative process of each movie with her own agenda. The Mandalorian is the direct love-child of those two amazing figures, by fans for the fans.

Number 18. I remember Lucas saying that Yoda learned from Qui Gon how to live through the force. He spent his time and Obi Wan's time in exile training Obi Wan to do the same. This took years. Because Qui Gon had trained for years, and hadn't trained enough to be a force ghost, but just a disembodied voice. Then when Anakin died, redeemed and having brought balance (yes, he DID bring balance, these movies are not canon to me), the combined efforts of Qui Gon, Obi Wan and Yoda came together to quickly speak to him as he died, and helped to pull him through so he could be around for Luke in the future. Because he had finally deserved it. And Luke deserved to have his dad around at last I guess. This was from Lucas himself. I think it was on the episode 3 extras if I remember right.
There are 2 books that backs Lucas's words up also. In "Life and Legends of Obi Wan Kenobi", and "Rise and fall of Darth Vader", Obi Wan reaches out to Anakin as he dies. Anakin starts apologizing for everything, but obi wan cuts him off because he has to teach him before his consciousness fades. It's actually a really cool part of both books.
@@mysite1012 Another thing Lucas said a few years back, before the sale to Disney, was about Obi Wan in the time between episode 3 and 4. They were writing books, wanting to know if they could do something about Obi Wan leaving Tatooine during this time, to go on certain missions or adventures, or if Lucas thought Kenobi had spent his entire time on that planet and never left it. Lucas said he had pretty much spent all his time on Tatooine, but said he would allow that he left perhaps a single time for some mission, if the stakes were high enough and the problem was dire enough that he felt he had no choice. But he said he would only have left a single time, and not for long. I think maybe this throws that awful new Kenobi show under the bus right away.

@@ethanstechworld207 to be honest, i didnt watch the movie, but hearing a lot of the stuff it sounds a lot like they tried to copy of the old republic (which does not work for Palpatine and the rule of two)

How did Palatine survive?
Disney: yes
Honestly, had they said it was him transfering his soul into a clone body I would take that as an okay answer
It's clear that they used the Dark Empire comics series as a strong basis for Rise of Skywalker.

One more here: Why did Rey think that she killed Chewbacca when later on she easily sensed him from much greater distance on the star destroyer? Why didn't she sense him on the desert that he was in a different ship to begin with?

it's kinda good.... means we can move forward and fast forward 10-50 or 100 + years later , without any skywalker BS like this movie showed and ruined everything from the past 8 films made
Daniel Doiron Star Wars isn’t very good without a Skywalker.
@Haku infinite you're not skywalker by marriage how does that work? You have to inherit the genes and force thats the point

Though Rey couldn’t control her force lightning. It was the first time and caused by anger and sadness from Chewie being taken away. Palpatine knew how to control his lightning and his anger and madness drew him to want to destroy things. Rey didn’t know how to control it shooting a bolt of lightning, it would take a lot of training to fully be able to control and as you can tell Rey got angry in the rise of Skywalker and crushed the training droid, she couldn’t control how she used her lightsaber which she had used for a while so she wouldn’t be able to control it.

@@lewisconnor8672 Just bad writing and complete ignorance of Jedi lore...
I know, people will immediately jump and say "bUt bAbY YoDA uSed iT, aNd, hE's aN iNFaNt!"
Yes ... and all we know about Yoda's race is that they are highly in tune with the force, so much so, that the few members in lore were all at the rank of Master.
Not as bad as RoS did, mind, but HP is a long way from being airtight.
underrated comment right here
Great comment ...but to be fair ...the first 2 movies take place TOGETHER in the time of around a week ...so Rey was stronger than any Jedi or Sith in like a week ...she basically picked up a mountain without breaking a sweat , somehow was an expert pilot , the first time she flew , knew more about the falcon than Han and Chewy ..etc etc ...it’s all so stupid
@@bjrmagic1 Didn't she also defeat Luke in a lightsaber duel in TLJ?
@@bjrmagic1 To be fair she did mention to Finn that she only flew ships in the atmosphere her entire life. It's still ridiculous that she's better at flying the Falcon then Han.

@@VGamingJunkieVT That's sort of my point though. Different situations.
@@granthamlin8126 Mostly the fact that the circumstances behind The Mandalorian are a lot more believable. We know the Force can pull and push, pulling a wound closed is a lot more believable than somehow healing burnt tissue.

Luke: No

9:07 Even when I was sitting there with my brain off watching the movie I noticed that the knife makes no sense. When she help up the dagger I'm like what? How does this make any sense?
I can't believe it. They put in the effort and resources to create that knife as a prop for the movie. But they couldn't be bothered to think about if it makes any fucking sense in the first place. This one item creates multiple plotholes and it is not even needed, seeing that there is already too much going on in the movie. How is that possible?!
That was my Last Jedi experience. Suddenly my brain would awaken from its audio/visual induced trance and be like "Wait WTF that makes no sense"
How does the knife make no sense?
Prequel Trilogy: "Always two, there are. No more. No less."
Sequel Trilogy: "**cough**"
This sequel Trilogy is like my poorly thrown together D&D homebrew Campaign, except worse.
Palpatine just kinda forgot to put navigation systems on all the star destroyers.
It is really stupid that ships that can destroy planets need a router to fly out of a storm. My solution is to form battle groups of 10 and fly out one at a time.
Well he forgot he died in Return of the Jedi, so anything is possible.
Brent Stevenson technically he didn’t because he said “I’ve died before” so.
Brilliant lol
not enough resources. The budget was tight for creating 10k star destroyers.

@@4pfBulmond Mace Windu harnassed the Dark Side of the Force as well.
Edit: He didn't harnass the Dark Side but he utilised a Saber combat style that was prone to devolving to the Dark Side. Since it requires the user to be angry to master it.

I guess I'm still trying to figure out why Chewbacca's "death" passed the cutting room floor. Why did they make us sit through that. It was pointless.
George Lucas had respect and appreciation for his creation. Disney just sees it as a financial opportunity and think people will buy garbage if it has Star Wars stamped on it. The characters and stories meant nothing to them unless they bring in the money.
@@ZE0Shadow So TRUE. disney also has an ant-Semitic streak that you see from time to time so could be influencing their decision too seeing as George Lucas is Jewish himself.

Disney messed up so bad. Ben solo should not have died. He should have tried to heal rey but failed. Rey should have died and it would be the rise of skywalker. Ben solo would finally be the jedi we expected anakin and luke to be.

This trilogy is just getting worse and worse with age. It’s fascinating discussing it. It’s a direct contrast with marvel, which, say what you will about how formulaic they can be, were meticulously planned out over 25+ movies. Disney couldn’t plan just one trilogy, just THREE movies
Mandalorian understands, acknowledges and builds on existing lore.
