Just finished this first book myself.
Something find rather interesting is how much Pryce causing massive collateral damage for her own petty ends is very much her own M.O.
In contrast to Thrawn not being able to read Vader at all, Thrawn could only read from the Emperor that which the Emperor *_allowed_* him to read, which was, as Eli noted in their first meeting with the Emperor: *_"Intelligence, knowledge, power. And even more than with Thrawn, a sense of complete mastery over everything around him."_* As smart as Thrawn is, Palpatine is much smarter and much more in control of everything around him. As we learn in the next books, Palpatine can so completely clearly read everyone around him at all times, including both Thrawn and Vader, who both struggle to read their Emperor in turn.
And like you said, Eric, Thrawn has met the Emperor, the Devil himself of the Star Wars universe, and did not recognise at all that this man was the greatest evil in existence, far more than the threats that he was worried about in the Unknown Regions (e.g. the Grysks).
So glad you've read those books before Ahsoka!
PLEASE do the other trilogy when you finish this one. It's even better!
I cannot wait until y'all read Shadow of the Sith. I've barely read any Star Wars novels but I LOVED it; it's a book that I could imagine being condensed into a great movie very easily.
Despite the book showing you his desire to preserve lives on occasion, don't forget that Thrawn is still an evil man and a cold-blooded murderer as well. He had no problem almost massacring the people of Lothal in order to get Ezra to surrender himself to the Emperor, he straight up murdered that factory worker in Rebels, and in Chapter 20 of this book, he publicly states that he has no problem with the Empire using slaves, referring to them not as people, but as Imperial assets that should be treated as such.
So just because Pryce was responsible for the majority of deaths at Batonn doesn't mean that Thrawn is any better than her when it comes to the mass murder of innocents.
The events that happened in Heir to an Empire will become canonical. They are definitely setting it up to take place sometime after the Ashoka show. You guys need to read the rest of the novels asap! Those events will be important in the future if star wars as well. The Unknown Regions are about to be known visually. Im so excited.
Marc Thompson does all of the High Republic adult novels, too! And he's great in the next Thrawn trilogy. He's just perfect for Star Wars.
My favorite part was the ten minutes in the middle where the chat disconnected and they just talked about nothing
I really liked this book but it really messed with my head by using a completely different Imperial navy rank progression to every other canon source- when Thrawn got promoted to Captain but was lower in rank than Lt Commander and Commander-- yeah that broke my head.
When are we supposed to get new content on this channel as far as the pdcast or eric streaming jedi survivor?

Eric has only recently just finished streaming The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and will be starting Jedi: Survivor here after a bit of a break.

I remember it too. I had to go crazy looking for it. It's in the live section of the channel. Same with alliances. Seems slightly redundant when the live archive is properly on here now albeit under the live section but 🤷♂️
Honestly, if Marc was in better shape, I’d almost prefer him to play live action Thrawn than Lars. Or at least have a different actor that matches the look better, and have either of them do a voice over.
