The dynamic island is a great example of the Apple’s hardware/software mindset. It doesn’t do a lot right now, but it does add some nice personality to the OS. Neat stuff ahead.
I love how you’re actually buying the bull that this is a feature and not simply an awkward compromise to hide their Face ID sensors and the camera. As soon as they find a way to hide them this “feature” (as it’s being marketed) goes bye bye.
Apple should have ditched Face ID long ago. It’s not worth the intrusion into the valuable screen space. Look at the beautiful screens Samsung and others have.

I think ita a brilliant way of integrating the user experience with that camera cut out. If not, you might notice occasional just how annoying having a cut out in your screen is.
I really dont mind it being integrated for the notification animation and such but I hope there is a way to make the pixels along the thickness of the island black when you view things full screen. I'm not sure if some buttons on certain apps like games would be under that island and you won't be able to click it because of it.
This stupid “dynamic island” is apple trying to put lipstick on a pig. The fact they can actually convince fools that having an ugly black dead space of useless screen is a “cool new feature” shows how stupid people are. The ONLY reason the notch and now this equally bad pill exist is because of apples idiotic obsession with facial id on their phones. Instead of abandoning Face ID and just going with a fingerprint scanner like everyone else is doing the stubbornly cling to Face ID,which is not necessary and certainly far less important than having a phone with a full screen.
I stopped upgrading at the iPhone 8 Plus because I couldn’t stand the notch. Each year I kept waiting for them to finally come out out a phone that all screen but it still hasn’t happened,because of their damn obsession with Face ID. Meanwhile Samsung and others are coming out with phones with beautiful uninterrupted screens,or screens with tiny hole punches for the front camera. It’s honestly amazing that Apple,who used to be innovators have allowed themselves to fall so far behind the rest of the industry in this regard,and are now playing sleazy circus sideshow type cons on people trying to convince them that having a big black oval for Face ID sensors permanently hogging what could be useable space on their screens is a “cool feature”,instead of a huge liability. I refuse to buy another iPhone until they get rid of it. The fact that someone would pay more to get less baffles me. I’ll go with the s23 plus this year until apple can pull its head out of its wormhole and ditch this.
this dynamic island really gets in the way of apps sometimes making it hard for me to read text or interact with UI elements in that side i immediately switched to s24u

I was a Android user for a long time. This year I switched to Apple. Generally I am content about my purchase. But honestly I miss some features on Android such as multi windows. It was handy to me in some situations to use 2 app in the same time which isn’t available in IOS.

I did un upgrade from the 11 to the 14 pro. This display is so amazing, smooth! The design for me is impressive, very elegant i say. This feature about Dynamic Island is amazing

@@broidek7483 same haha, upgraded from Pro max 11, my gf bought 14 regular and I did pro, and even her 14 regular seems sluggish compared to this ( its the 90hz refresh rate ) but the dynamic island is a let down for me, i really dont see any user experience value for it, at least not yet.

As a font geek myself, I like the name ‘Dynamic Island’ because when you write a name with a font starts with D, pair it with Apple’s SF Pro Display, it looks gorgeous. I don’t know if it’s only me. I don’t care the name. I just care how the words look with certain font.

As much as I hated the notch, I love the solution called dynamic island, and I don’t even care if future brings some sort of high quality under screen front cams to get away from this - this solution with dynamic island, notifications within in it, interactions within it and whatever else comes with future development. Haters that say oh it’s just software bla bla bla - well where the fuck where you for the last 4-5years where nothing close to such solution came up
And everything it can't 😂. Apple marketed walled pop up view that you can't move or reach on PM and people are losing their minds. Goes to show you the power of marketing and the power of caring how people perceive you. On a business front you have to hand it to Apple, on an innovation front, they are and will continue to be behind and limited. This isn't opinion, it's actual fact. I got the 14 Pro through AT&T on trade in. I haven’t downloaded many apps and I’m still just impressed by this new pill cutout. Honestly my personal phone is a 13 Pro Max that I got barely a month ago. Wishing I would’ve waited knowing how amazing the 14 Pro was.
If it makes you feel better you’re 13 pro max will probably have slightly better battery life do to slightly bigger battery. You may have issues with battery if you updated to 16 and if you do then 16.1 will likely fix it

Well, implementation with 1st party apps is of course no problem. what users are concerned is the implementation with 3rd party apps.

The pill shape cutout exists for one reason,the Face ID sensors. Apple is once again playing a circus con and trying to sell a liability as a “cool new toy”,and fools are buying it.
It’s inexcusable that Apple who used to be an innovator has fallen so far behind the competition because of their stubborn obsession with Face ID.

We get all these new features n upgrades in software (all good n cool) yet for years this dam sound off button has remained and never went software based. Plus you switch phone to silent and not even a wee icon symbol reminding you phones on mute (many a time i’ve switched my phone to mute, forgot about it and missed texts n calls as the only way to know if phone on mute is looking at the button)
come on apple do something with this button n feature, if your ditching headphone jacks, sim trays then why is this button still hanging around?

People make videos on the biggest fing notch , screen blocking thing and think it's fun. Full screen is fun, no interruptions is fun, underscreen camera is fun, pop up camera is fun. This is BS. I want phones with no front facing cameras, or at least hidden under. That's the technology that we need, not some smart notch that takes half of the screen.

To be fair, there’s not a whole lot of ways to innovate in the phone world anymore and this is new and pretty cool. Eventually app developers are gonna make full use of this space and it’s gonna be even better.

The Dynamic Island is just a widget. It partially camouflages the pill cutout but nothing to get excited about
I have the new iPhone 14 pro and ngl I would like to see most notifications pop up in the dynamic island as well. Right now if I get a text for example itll pop up underneath and looks kinda cheap so I hope that message integration will come as well

kinda taskbar, but to me it is similar to when you have a hole on your left trousers leg and stitch heart shaped patches to both of them :) I suppose after several years it will down the path of touch bar on the macbook

My last Iphone was the Iphone 7 and after that i started using Samsung because they were much cheaper even though i dont like android, but my current Samsung started to fail me so i decided to buy the Iphone 14 pro (normal size) And i'm amazed on what Apple brought to the Table with this one. And i also missed the IOS operating system.
1.) what’s that widget in the thumbnail picture? it’s got calendar, battery percentage and phone storage information all in one. Can’t find it on my phone. Running iPhone 13 promax.
2.) I really can’t stand the idea of the dynamic island, I really wish they would’ve just continued to shrink the notch… But now that I see some of the stuff that they’ve done with it, feature wise, not the worst thing I’ve seen. It actually excites me because, that puts the timer in immediate reach all the time because I use my timer way more than I think.

What's wrong with the term dynamic island? It's very descriptive
You can actually change the active activity in the dynamic island you just need to swipe left or right in the middle part of the island instead of trying to swipe the secondary activity that’s shaped like a dot.
Maybe it was not possible at the time of this video but it is possible now, I use it all the time.

I like when I start a 5 hour timer and it just sits in the dynamic island so I can stare at every second passing by. The timer icon would be fine, but seeing the timer countdown for hours is insane.

Having the island there with app integrations is a fun little gimmick with the animal and that game, but aside from that what I thought about the island before is still the same. It's really pointless, it does everything that a very simple swipe from the top bar, or just what the top bar was made for. It showing what app is open is fine and all but it's not helpful and it's useless since I'd already know and it's not important to know anyways. There's just no new thing it brings to the table other than application integrations and that's that.

Only Apple could take moving their cutout down, wasting more screen real estate, and spin it as a feature.
If they can't figure out how to hide the giant bar behind the screen they should just ditch face ID and use an under screen fingerprint reader like everyone else.

My iPhone 14 pro has never had dynamic island what so ever and is I’m at a lost how to get it activate. I have most up to date software dunno how to active it since listening to music, putting on silent, and all does nothing
