Whether you love it or hate it, Apple's Dynamic Island is the most-talked about feature on the new iPhone. It looks like a very creative way of solving their problem regarding the top notch. Android has already ditched the notch long time ago, and Apple fans were keen to see their preferred brand finally do it too! While Dynamic Island has been praised as a great fusion of hardware and software, there are some issues with it. And we're here to tell you all about it!
So let's begin with the elephant in the room: Dynamic Island takes up more vertical space than the classic notch! As soon as the new iPhone was launched several websites showed visual representation of how the Island cuts even more into the display.

I have to laugh at all the duped people who are calling this a feature. It isn’t. The pill only exists because apple stubbornly refuses to ditch their stupid Face ID system and needs a cutout for the sensors and camera. Period. The notch was already terrible, and moving to this pill shape has now taken away even more useable screen area as the cutout has been move lower into the display.
The cutout is obnoxious. It’s always there and renders the top part of the screen worthless. It’s there watching videos,is there looking at stuff on the web. It’s like having a big blotch of bird crap on your cars windshield right in the middle of your view, only you can’t just wipe it off.
Why anyone at apple thought this was a good idea and why they don’t just ditch their idiotic Face ID is beyond me.

Boo-hoo, woe is you now that the camera cutout sits 4 millimetres deeper into the phone screen. Yes, I measured it.
There's a reason why the pop-up camera and under-display camera lost to having a camera cutout across all phones in the first place, and that is that 99% of consumers would rather compromise the screen than compromise the front camera quality (under-display) or the reliability of the phone (pop-up). It becomes invisible to the majority of people who use an iPhone for more than 5 minutes, and the Dynamic Island makes it even more invisible because it turns the cutout into a part of the GUI, giving it a function that obscures the true nature of its existence.
Face ID is better than fingerprint unlock, especially under-display fingerprint unlock, and I'm tired of people who think it isn't. It's invisible. I lift my phone and it unlocks before I even move a finger. After dealing with an optical under-display fingerprint sensor in a OnePlus, plus ones on the back in an Essential PH-1 and Galaxy S8, I much prefer it, and, much like nearly every iPhone user, would rather have a larger display cutout that fits the Face ID sensors than have a fingerprint sensor. And this isn't even getting into how many more data points Face ID samples than your average fingerprint sensor, and especially an under-display one.
      Horrible take. Embarrassingly bad.

@@sodapone That’s why Apple execs refer to it internally as the Dynamic Dildo. “It’ll screw them any way they turn it” is the inside joke.
Apple Insider predicts that the next iPhone will have a second, even bigger one on the bottom. Sounds like you’ll be singing praises about that new one as well.

I would assume this is done for backwards compatibility. If they made it work with Dynamic Island, it would most likely interfere with the way notifications are currently displayed that’s already built into apps and end up resulting in a majority of the apps, if not all, of the App Store’s app’s notifications would just cease to work. Of course we know why they wouldn’t do that.

When you overlay the dynamic island to a notch it's still smaller. Having a bit of screen on the top only makes it easier to visualize what's behind it. Why don'tot Apple add a ‘Clear App Data & Documents’ option for all apps (Device Apps & Third-party Apps) for iOS? Deleting app then reinstalling it wouldn't work when you don't have WiFi because you can't reinstall the app, and not all apps have that option built-in.

Previously to access the timer I would have to unlock the phone and open the app. It's quite convenient to have it displayed when I simply turn on the phone. In my line of work we are constantly setting multiple timers throughout the day. At times I can't mess around with the phone screen since I may get some chemicals on it. This reduces the amount of touching I do on the phone while working.

Coming from all Androids previously to the 14 PM which i currently have, i dont have any complaints about the DI, probably because I’ve never had any experience with ‘notched’ iPhones. It is useful in some limited ways but it mostly blends into the background. It’s only visible if you are actively trying to ignore it but most of the time it goes unnoticed by me unless im using spotify.

    In case someone is interested:
    1. Taking more Space: That’s not true, the brain is capable of filling up the hole based on the rest of the image.
    2. Fingerprints: Most users (unconsciously, perhaps) will wipe off the front camera before using it. Pay attention to that next time somebody takes a selfie.
    3. Reachable: the island is mainly used while the phone is in a holder (specially driving) or laying flat.
    4. Use: you have to be kidding yourself if you don’t find it really handy to multitask (maps + music always there) regardless of what you’re doing.
    Just my 2 cents.

i don’t think the dynamic island really had anything to do with giving the device more screen real estate. i’ve always seen it purely as a way to give more functionality to the area of the display that holds one of the core components to ios, face id. the dynamic island is located lower than the notch due to there having to be an active touchable area, as well as there being symmetry to the overall experience. due to the way the notch is designed on the 13/ 13 pro/ 14, any animation would look a little glitchy, a little half baked. a notification bar that transitions to a pop up window looks messy compared to a floating shape transitioning to a pop up window. it’s all about mixing functionality with aesthetics.

Notch or dynamic island. I don’t care. I like the more secure Face ID over unreliable Face ID and Under the screen fingerprint scanner. Plus I’ve never had finger print issues when using the Dynamic Island. Plus if I even interact with it. I use both hands. I personally think it’s great.
