      You have to bring your puppy to go potty every few hours, even when being in a crate. They have tiny bladders and they cannot hold their potty for too long. Once your puppy is a bit older, they can hold it for longer.

    my almost 8th month old Samoyed learnt quickly where the bathroom is, after weeks of peeing inside (however he doesn't lift his leg to pee for the time being). He's a smart one and learns quickly, but has tonnes of energy and can be frustrating to deal with sometimes. It's definitely a learning experience for both of us but I wouldn't have it any other way.
    PS: My goodness they grow so quick!

      @YetisPlace  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey, AlexxxRhodes! Thank you for watching our video. Yes, they grow so quickly. Be sure to walk your Samoyed and play with him a lot. At his age, he’ll eat stuff he’s not supposed to get into and things they’re not supposed get into. Give him plenty of exercise and playtime to help wear off that extra energy. Enjoy him so much. I too miss those youthful days. They were such cuties, but they grow into beautiful adults that love and adore you. I would not want any breed any other than a Samoyed.

      Congratulations on your Sammy puppy! They are so adorable! Puppies have small bladders, aika. They have to go outside frequently, immediately after eating/drinking and immediately after playing. About once every half hour to every hour. It takes time to potty train a Samoyed. Yeti didn’t have it down until he was around 6 months. When they grow, their bladders do too and they learn to go potty outside. Get some doggie potty smell remover liquid, in a large size. Use it whenever she goes potty in the house. Get rid of the potty smell. Enjoy your new fuzzy baby girl, aika. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    For me, it took about one and a half to two months for her to get potty trained. Her pen was the whole kitchen, so it was pretty large. She found a particular spot where she would always poop at, and we set a potty pad there to make cleanup easier. A crucial piece that allowed us to make a breakthrough was examining what she did immediately before going, which we learned to recognize so we could take her out when we saw it. She still wasn't perfect then, but it only took another month before she only had an accident every other week. We probably could have eliminated the need for potty pads earlier than we did at seven months, but she lived in the pen until then because she stubbornly insisted on using our feet as chew toys until her adult teeth came in. By that point, she had it down solid enough that she didn't have any accidents when we took the gates down. It probably helped that outside was a very fun place for her.

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You did a good job with her potty training. Using the potty pads was helpful during the accident times. Good news that you paid attention to learn her habits.
      Our first Samoyed, Chewy, would give us a few quick seconds of warning to get him outside. Yeti, zero warning. He’d start going on the middle of playing. Zero warning. It was frustrating, but, thankfully, wood floors are wonderful for potty cleanup.
      Thank you for commenting and sharing your story!

      You've had your puppy for a couple weeks right? Is he a little rebel? My sammy definitely was at that age. I remember getting discouraged at the time because of how different things were from our experience with the two previous dogs my family had gotten, as well as the "first day home" videos here on TH-cam. With patience though, we worked out nearly all of her bad behavior. Now her worst problem is that she gets too excited when she thinks she's going to say hi to someone.

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sammies can be stinkers, but they’re just too cute and lovable for us to be mad at them. They look up at us with these adorable expressions that melt our hearts.

    • @Ahlnie
      @Ahlnie 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One of the things I gathered from my experience back then is that you don't want to use any sort of action based punishment when they are trying to play or want attention. Other people in my home would try stopping her from play biting too hard by bopping her snout or shoving her away; that only excited her, so she went after them even more.

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had found growling worked well, then turning and walking away. Samoyeds love attention, so not to give them attention, they think, is the worst thing. They will do whatever to grab your attention back.

    I watched this video a few months ago before I got a sammy puppy. Now I'm watching it again a few times because I'm struggling with my 15 weeks old female sammy pup.Things are getting better but Oh god first 2 days outside were so hard. The pup couldn't go outside because of vac. situation for some weeks and she got used to potty at home even though i watched SOO closely. As you said, just in the blink of an eye, she squats and pees. We play fetch. She brings the toy again and again, after a few times, she just makes a circle and boom time to clean. First two days whenever she squatted to poop, i took her out and waited for 3 hours sometimes but she was so amazed with all the new sounds and smells. So she didnt do the business. It's the first week still of potty training. she pees or poops outside but sometimes she does them again right after we come back home. As you said, somedays are very easy, some days are hard. I give her treat when shes done. She already started walking towards me right after potty because she knows that i always give her treat after potty. But she doesn't understand yet that she should hold until outside. Anyway your videos are the best about samoyeds. I hope you will keep sharing new ones. Have a nice day. ^^

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really do feel your pain and struggles, as I've gone through it too. You'll need to get on a consistent wake potty time frame for overnight and during the day. Set an alarm on your phone.
      Overnights, she should be in a crate, since they don't like to go potty where they sleep. While she's little, you'll want to divide the big crate into a smaller size, by using a metal crate separator. (I'm sorry I don't know the exact name of it. Some crates come with them.)
      During the daytime, if you and your family are able to keep eyes on her like a hawk, she should be placed in her crate. Crates are for their safety, as they can quickly start chewing things they shouldn't be, like electrical cords. Which is why, if you're working, cooking dinner, unable to watch her, then she goes in the crate.
      Immediately after you let her out of her crate, immediately bring her outside to go potty. Crate time during the day also needs an alarm set. Once the alarm goes off, she goes outside. She needs to go potty twice before you bring her inside. First time is a check potty. Second time is a full bladder release.
      When you are able to watch her during the day, again set your timer. The moment it goes off, she goes outside for the 2 potties.
      Bring treats to give her the moment she goes potty, encourage her with a happy voice.
      For the timer, here's a video I did explaining it. th-cam.com/video/gwKwdZgGPi4/w-d-xo.html
      Sammies can take a number of months to fully potty train. But with observation, timer and quick action, you can minimize it.

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Congratulations on your upcoming Samoyed puppy, Gerry Rafferty! Yeti and I are excited for you guys! Samoyed pups eat, shred and destroy everything and will have many potty accidents. If you are unable to pay close attention and watch him, please put in a crate for an hour or two at a time (while they’re really young). Bring outside immediately after removing from the crate. Puppies like to explore and could get into dangerous areas you never thought of. For example, cords, electrical outlets and plants. A crate is a good way to provide safety for your puppy. After they’re potty trained, you can gate your puppy into one room. Provide toys, teething rings. No carpeting in that room. I know this from experience with my first Samoyed, Chewy, who literally shred our entire family room carpet, within an hour of freedom. Best wishes to you and your family, with your adorable little Samoyed puppy, Gerry!

    Hi. Can u make videos about how to train three month old samoyed?

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello, Marks Legoland Studios! Congratulations on your new fuzzy baby,! If seems you have started to experience their full stinker-filled timeframe, with their razor sharp puppy teeth. The phase you are in, will last until they’re around 2 years. Be patient with your baby fuzz. They will try your patience. Play a lot with your baby, bring them on multiple daily walks, to help tire them out. They’re bored, which is why they’ve become destructive. Plus, they’re puppies, who have learned to stretch their boundaries.
      Enroll in puppy training classes. Because they’re Samoyeds, there’s zero attention span, so they’ll be extremely distracted by all the other fuzzy babies. Bring super tasty, tiny treats to help distract them from all the SQUIRRELS! that are going on around them at puppy training. It’s super important to socialize, which is why puppy training comes in super handy, even with all the distractions your puppy will experience.
      You can find out about puppy training courses, by asking your veterinarian. Pet stores near you, may also have information on puppy schools.
      Good luck to you, Marks Legoland Studios and your baby fuzz! Thank you for the awesome for a future video idea!

    I know this is an older video, but i was wondering something. My family and I are possibly planning to get a Samoyed at some point in the next year or so, and I know they don’t like to be alone and obviously their bladder and everything. Would it be okay to get a Samoyed if the adults are at work and the kids are in school for nearly 6 to 8 hours and can’t be home for them in that time? Would that be okay for them and what would you recommend?

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Great question, empatheticbones. I would use a crate, to prevent potty accidents, prevent them from eating your house and to give them a sense of safety and peace. They should be let out at least every 2-3 hours when they’re small. If your parents are able to come home over their lunch breaks, they can let your Samoyed outside to go potty and get some water. If not, you could find out if a neighbor or someone you trust, can let your puppy outside. Once they’re potty trained and a bit bigger, they can hold their potty for awhile longer and would be okay if left home by themselves. While they’re little and not potty trained, could use a puppy pad, where they can go potty, if you’re unable to bring them outside every few hours. You’d want to be sure they’re in a bit larger of an area (for example, gated off in a kitchen or bathroom), if you leave a puppy potty pad out for them. They will not go potty in a crate, as they don’t like to go potty where they sleep.

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I can’t remember how old Yeti was when he started lifting his leg. I would think around 4-6 months old. He does it if he’s near a tree, fire hydrant, building. Always against something. If it’s just in field or grassy area, he doesn’t lift his leg. They lift their leg because it’s about scattering their scent everywhere for other doggies to know they were there.

      You still want to potty train your dog to go outside. Potty pads are only for emergency purposes. The reason you want to train them for outside potty, is because otherwise they won’t learn the difference when they go to visit someone else. Good luck, pinkie.

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sammy puppies, really should sleep in crates until they’re around 2 years old. The reasons are, they’re not quite potty trained, they often eat things while unsupervised and they get too warm so they often will jump down off the bed. Even though I’d love Yeti to sleep with me on the bed, he doesn’t want to, because it’s too warm.
      Thank you for the compliment on my shirt. You can get them from my links in the video description.

    I have a mini American eskimo 12 weeks. Hes about the same as yeti! He pees 20-30 times a day! Still having 1-3 accidents inside a day as well. Hes being crate trained but pen at night. Is that okay? His pen is his crate and an area with a potty pad that he uses. We allow this as he has 3-5 potties per night even though we pick up food and water 3 hours before bedtime.

      @YetisPlace  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would set a timer of half and hour to 45 minutes. Once the timer goes off, your dog goes outside, even if they don’t have to go potty. Make sure they empty their bladder twice while outside. The reason they need 2 potties, is because dogs never fully empty their bladders the first time they go potty.
      I would eliminate the pen and place in a crate overnight. Make sure the crate isn’t too large. If it’s designed for an adult, you’ll need a crate divider to make the space the smaller. Dogs don’t go potty where they sleep. The space you’re allowing, is too large. He’s getting confused about where to go potty, considering the potty pad. If you’d like to use a potty pad, then I’d recommend you get Doggie Lawn, which is an actual grass lawn, on a plastic tray. Because it’s real grass, your dog will learn the smells and can more easily associate going potty on the Doggie Lawn, with going potty outside.
      If you prefer having him in a pen overnight, use a Doggie Lawn in the pen. Not a potty pad.

      @@YetisPlace we pick up the pad during the day so he doesn't use it at all. When can I expect him to hold it throughout the night? Thats the only reason we leave the pad down. He goes 3-5 times. Could he realistically hold it that long at 3 months?

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When they’re that age, you’ll have to get up every few hours to bring outside. Potty training takes time and effort. Be patient. Using a potty pad could be confusing your puppy.

      Overnight, I would wake every 3 hours or when he starts whimpering to go outside. Wake up and bring outside. It helps to have his crate in your bedroom, so you can easily hear him.

    Hi I just got my Samoyed yesterday!! But......she pooped out in her crate first night while she was barking and whining about missing her mom. We took her her outside before ( and after )and were out there for a long time( My mom even gave her her her meal out there long before in her playpen because we don’t wanna bring her inside even though yes I know we should’ve had it in the crate because it separates potty time in mealtime) but she ended up Peeing twice in her playpen. ( outdoors) Which is where her potty spot will be I think since I think she understand. Anyway would you be able to help me signify potty barking and upset barking for the first couple of days since she is a puppy?? Thanks so much

      Congrats on the new puppy, Anna. With any new puppy, there is a time of adjustment. They’re scared, timid, nervous, about being in a new house, away from their mother and litter mates. There will be an adjustment your puppy will go through. It takes time. Bring your pup outside once every other hour, while in a crate, for the first few weeks. Have her live inside with you, because they need to be with their human families. Puppies have to go potty a lot. The first few weeks they’re with you, there will be a lot of adjustment to being in a crate overnight. Because she’s going potty in her crate, there should be a divider piece in your crate kit. Use that, to make the space a bit smaller. They won’t go potty where they sleep, if the space is small enough. After those first few weeks, your pup will have acclimated and will be able to hold the potty for longer. Get her into a routine.

      I haven’t potty trained a dog using a potty pad. If you’d like to use that method, I would potty train the same way as you would, if bringing them outside. Except, zelum zulu, you bring to the potty pad. Here’s one of our potty training videos to help. m.th-cam.com/video/gwKwdZgGPi4/w-d-xo.html

      It’s a lot of work to care for a Samoyed. They’re much more than just soft and poofy. If you would be a first time dog owner, it’s best to have another breed first.

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You need to get a smaller crate. They won’t go potty where they sleep, but that area has to be small enough to prevent that. If you have a large crate, block off the back end of it. Some crates come with an additional divider metal piece so you can easily make it smaller.

      Then you should buy a cloud. Just be sure to bring him outside on a walk a few times a day. Otherwise, your cloud will get upset, will thunder (bark) and rain (piddle). Sometimes will hail (poop) really smelly stuff.

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      She’s a brand new puppy. Puppies do that...a lot. Crate train, because they don’t go potty, where they sleep. You’ll need a crate divider, to make the crate a bit smaller. While outside of the crate, supervise her. Bring her outside the second she stops playing. Immediately after eating and drinking. She’ll have to go outside once an hour to every other hour, until she’s a bit older.

      @milli3711 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeti’s Place thank u this helped so much she also cries so much ill hold her then put her down because she’s heavy and she’ll randomly start barking or howling is it because she misses her mother or they just do that?

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Millia, I’m sorry to hear you’re going through this. She’s 8 weeks old. She had just left her litter mates and parents. It’s scary for her. Cuddle her, play with a good toy that she enjoys. Bring her on a daily walks. You don’t have to go far, when your puppy is little. She needs to know she’s loved. It’ll take time and patience. At night, have her crate in your bedroom, facing you. She can see you and it’ll help her eventually calm. When you’re gone for the day, turn on some music, a TV, something with sound, so she won’t feel lonely.

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are sad, miss their families and are scared, being with a new human family. It’ll take time for her to get used to you and eventually calm. I’ll have a new video tomorrow, about how to stop a Sammy from barking. Watch that. Also, watch our puppy videos. I’ve been where you are. I can assure you, it’ll get better and easier.

      Talk to your parents about a dog and listen to what they want. Dogs, especially Samoyeds, are a huge responsibility that’s normally left to the parents to care for.

You could contact breeders, Samoyed shelters, dog shelters, if in the USA the Samoyed Club of America, to find a breeder near you. Thanks for giving us 2 comments! So cool that thanks to TH-cam, I’m able to reach people all around the world. Welcome to our channel! You can do a Google search for Samoyed breeders around you. Be sure to call them and stop in to see them. Be sure it’s a good, healthy place that they raise puppies. Because you’re around the middle-East, there may not be many Samoyed breeders. You may have to go to Europe or to the former Soviet Union. Samoyeds do very well in cold climates. If you’re looking at getting one, please have air conditioning in your home, preferably central air conditioning. A Samoyed should never be shaved and they have to remain cool.
