    Have you ever thought of getting a Samoyed, just based on their cuteness? This video helps you decide if they're the right type of dog for you. I adore Yeti so much, yet, he can be a stinker. Find out some inside info on Samoyeds.

      Yeti’s Place I have always wanted to have at least one dog in my family. However, about a year ago I developed several new allergens, one being to dog saliva and dander. My symptoms are slight: light sneezing and small red bumps when the dogs lick me. I’ve read several articles stating that Samoyeds are hypoallergenic. On the contrary, I have also read articles stating that’s debatable and dependent on the severity of the allergen. In many of your videos your emphasize the Samoyed’s overload fur shedding. My question to you is, are Samoyeds in fact hypoallergenic?

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I am so sorry to hear of your allergies. So tough to go through when you love dogs and really want one. I can tell you, I have a little nephew, who is allergic to dogs, including to Samoyeds. :( Even though a Samoyed has hair rather than fur, without many oils in their skin (which helps keep them odor free), unfortunately, my little nephew’s eyes water, his nose runs, gets stuffed up, his eyes swell. He loves the doggies, but allergies can be terribly viscous. So, he and his family bought a second generation GoldenDoodle. Second generation, due to both parents being the mix between Golden Retriever and Poodle. This dog, due to zero shedding, is perfectly fine for him and has proven as a great hit to keep him allergy free. Hopefully, that information helps you out. Thank you so much for checking our channel out and watching!

      What advice would you give if i am not able to bring my dog to work or school for about 8 hours a day? I really want one and am willing to dedicate time for them, but in my country dogs are not really allowed in public places :(

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I work 40 hours per week in my regular job. More, when you consider the commute. Dogs are not allowed in public places here either. Crate training for overnight and when you’re not home. When you are home, plenty of playtime, walks and tons of attention.

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I actually work between 60 and 70 hours per week, between my job and TH-cam. Yeti does great, because of all the playtime and walks he gets.

    Samoyeds are wayyyyy easier than a ton of other breeds. Just be firm and consistent and you're onto a winner. It irritates me when people say they are a difficult breed - they are not. They are actually a good choice for first time owners. As someone who has owned the nordic breeds, samoyeds and lapphunds are the easiest by far.

    Have you taught Yeti how to sing yet. Sami's love to howl with their people.

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have tried so many times. He does howl, but when he feels like it. Of course, I never have my phone/camera recording during those moments. When I turn the camera on, he knows he has to behave. Our late Sam, Chewy, used to howl all the time with me. Chewy was extremely expressive vocally. He would have full out conversations with me. Yeti, is talkative, but expresses himself differently. Thank you so much, Angel, for your comment and for watching! I really appreciate it!

    +1 for the correct pronunciation of samoyed! I’ve always had malamutes, but I recently took in a rescue puppy who is half Samoyed and half malamute. She’s only 4/5 months and I’m already her 4th home. When I first got her, I thought there was something mentally wrong with her, for the first two weeks she barely even acknowledged my existence except to occasionally snap her teeth when I moved too fast near her. (She’s already got an unhealthy fear of humans, we were scheduled to start private training to help socialize her to other people so she doesn’t develop fear aggression with strangers, but with what’s going on in the world right now, it’s been delayed...) The vet thinks she was at Least 4 weeks younger than what I was told and the fact that she likely left her mother too early and she was so malnourished probably caused the delayed mental development. I’m happy to say that now she’s super sweet, gets excited when I talk to her, and is a healthy weight for her size! Having never owned a Sammy, I wanted to learn some more about their personality and such and found your videos. It’s funny, because my girl vocalizes just like Yeti does in the beginning of the video but she ends it with a very malamute “wooooo”.

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello, Cpt Tuttle. Already she's on her 4th home? How sad for that poor puppy. Be patient with her and give her lots of walks and playtime to keep her happy. Establish a good feeding, walking, playtime and bedtime routine. Sams love routines. Both breeds are very active, northern working dogs, bred for hard work. If you go outside while on skis or roller blades, your pup will have more fun, because they can run and pull you.
      I would imagine she has a fear of humans. She's gone from home to home and is probably terrified of losing another. Be good to her and allow her time to get used to you. Encourage her with playtime. Use a special toy to entice. Be very patient. It will take time for her to adjust.
      Sammies too do the woo-wooing and the expressive talking. Malamutes do too. Very expressive dogs. Sams are such sweethearts. I've watched many videos on Malamutes that are really enjoyable. One of my favorite channels, is K'eyush The Stunt Dog. Key is a Malamute and has super entertaining videos. Yeti loves watching him and seeing what he's up to.
      Thank you for taking the time to watch our video and comment. Yeti loves it when I read him his comments.

      Yeti’s Place I almost didn’t keep her either, when I got her it was kind of an emergency situation. The people before me meant well. they got the dog for their daughter after watching the movie Togo. In fact, they were calling the puppy Togo. They had problems potty training, socializing, and she was so crazy about food she would inhale it and then vomit. The night I got her I was called by the mother (I work with her) who was frantic because the puppy had just choked on her dinner and they thought she was going to die. I took her that night with the intent of finding a breed specific rescue (or one very familiar with northern breeds). But, the day she came up to me and put her paws and head on my lap and when I said, “Well, hello there.” And she just waggled her butt, I knew she was gonna stay with me forever. It was the first time she really acknowledged me as a companion. I’ve been working with the vet on her feeding issues, he had me feed her very small meals frequently throughout the day and now she’s finally at a great weight, has really good energy, plays very well with my malamute, and loves being near me. She is currently sleeping in her favorite spot which is curled up right at my feet! She’s become very happy in her home. She has the most impressive tail which curls over her back and then hangs straight down her side ending at her hock and she wags that thing back and forth over her back when I talk to her now. I am starting her training to do carting and/or scootering/bikejoring. She has a little harness and occasionally I attach a short leash to drag behind her while she’s running around. As she grows I’ll start adding some weighted items and work more on commands. I think there may always be too big a size disparity to pair her up with my 8 malamute puppy, he’s already almost 80lbs and the vet thinks he’ll be about 120 fully grown, but we’ll see.

      Yeti’s Place Also, I have seen Key’s channel and he actually is part malamute!

      She sounds like a sweetheart. Her tail sounds like it is stunning. She certainly melted your heart. The way you were feeding her helped slow her down. Glad to hear she gets along well with your big guy. You’ve done a great thing for her and I’m really happy for both of you.

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your comment is not at all late, Susan Chan, as I always enjoy getting comments and answering them. Due to the popularity of TH-cam, I prefer to keep Yeti’s breeder’s name private. I found his breeder, by searching SamoyedClubOfAmerica.org and searching for an area close to me, with breeders I’d like to work with. I set up a few appointments to meet them and worked with the breeder that I felt the best connection to. If you don’t live in the United States, you could search for your country’s Samoyed Club on Google. You’ll want to contact a breeder, meet them, talk to them, so both you and the breeder can determine if you’d be a good fit for both the breeder and the puppy. Best wishes!

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thank you, Mia, for the compliment! My video I’ll release tomorrow, talks about what Yeti does if left home alone. He is my Samoyed. He’s walked anywhere from 2-3 miles a day, so he’s calm and relaxed during the day. Quimby and Bigby are owned by family members. They’re walked a few times weekly. Because there’s more than 1, when one of them starts becoming destructive, the other one joins in. Bigby is normally the instigator, so he goes into a crate if his parents are not home. Potty training can be difficult and takes time. Be sure to bring them outside right away after waking up from a nap/sleeping, the moment they stop playing. Only discipline if you catch them in the act. They need a lot of play time, activity and exercise daily. Be sure to keep small things they would love to eat, like shoes, put away.

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you, ForeverHay 9. They are such wonderful dogs. Of course I remember where I got him. I got him from a reputable breeder, who I found after my first Samoyed’s breeder passed away. I found Yeti’s breeder by doing research, looking into breeders in The Samoyed Club of America. For me, finding a dog, is a special experience. I like getting to know my dog’s breeder and I like to keep their name private, as they don’t have a lot of dogs and have very few litters each year. Each dog owner is different and would like different things from their pup. You can contact Samoyed rescues, go to dog shows to meet breeders, research Samoyed Club of America, to find a good fit for you. Talk to other owners. Because Yeti and I are on TH-cam, in contact with the whole world, we prefer to keep his breeder private. You could also do a Google search for reputable breeders in your area. Set up an appointment to visit the breeder and their dogs. See if it’s be a good fit for you. There’s a lot that goes into a dog search, including having the breeder feel you’d be a good fit for the dog. Become active in the dog community. Thanks for your great question!

      Great question, Tatiana! I’m gone 9 hours per day, 5 days per week. Yeti goes to another house, near where his Dad works. His Dad goes there over his lunch and walks Yeti. We’ve left Yeti home alone for about 7-9 hours a few times. He does fine, because he gets a lot of walks, plenty of playtime and activity. Be sure to walk your Sammy a few times daily and play a lot. That’s how you can have a non-destructive Sam. Up until they reach age 2, they are very active, puppylike and get bored/destructive easily. That’s why it’s important to walk them a lot and play a lot. They’re working dogs, so they love walking and playing. Thank you so much for your wonderful comments and for loving our videos! Yeti loves being on camera and is always super excited when I read comments to him.

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for watching. Yeti doesn’t care for rope toys, except if I’m on the other end of them, encouraging his play. Otherwise, he ignores them. He has specific toys. Loves boxes and tennis balls. Other toys, like hard rubber Kong toys, he ignores. He likes the toys which involve his humans.

    Yeti is so cute! I have a question it is how much does it cost to adopt a samoyed or was yeti or free I am kind of confused of how to adopt a dog

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for the compliment on Yeti, Sofia Gachaverse. He is such a special sweetie fuzz. Their cost depends on where in the world you live and where you get a Samoyed. Yeti comes from a breeder who owns many grand champions and has been breeding for over 50 years. Therefore, his cost was a bit more.
      The benefit of getting a Sam from a reputable breeder, is the dogs who are bred, are screened for diseases before breeding. If they’re found to be at risk of diseases, they’re not bred. However, they will cost more.
      You can look online for Samoyed Clubs near you, to find reputable breeders near you. You can also ask them if they know of anywhere where you can adopt a Samoyed, like an older Samoyed, or if they have an older Sam who is done breeding and being shown in dog shows.
      Good luck in your search. Thanks for watching and commenting!

      Depending on where in the world you live, there are many correct ways to pronounce their name, DomoNation. The way I pronounce the name, Samoyed, is the way many well respected breeders of many grand champions pronounce it, as well as how their name is pronounced at the large, televised dog shows within the United States. Westminster Dog Show is one of those. Here’s a video Yeti and I did, about how to pronounce their name. m.th-cam.com/video/2aiXdvgnwQY/w-d-xo.html. Thanks for watching and commenting, DomoNation!

    Hello again . I went to look at some more videos and I wanted to ask about the whole inside and outside situation. My parents don't want any sort of pet inside the house for many many reasons and usually kept the majority of our dogs outside. Is there any way to avoid having them inside or is it a must to have them inside at all times?

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If they live in Mexico, it is important that they’re in air conditioning, inside. A Samoyed is not an outside dog, as they become lonely and will be destructive due to boredom. They must always be with their people. They have lived with their people inside, since the breed originated in Siberia many hundreds of years ago. Not at all a dog meant to be kept away from their owners. They are talkative and will talk an awful lot and will howl fiercely if left outside by themselves. Additionally, the heat in Mexico, if they’re not in air conditioning, could kill them. They have a thick, double coat, that is not supposed to be shaved. Helps protect them from the hot summer sun and from getting sunburned. Their skin never sees the light of day, so shaving will lead to very serious sunburn. If your Mom and Dad won’t allow a dog in their house, then a Samoyed is not a good dog for them. Sammies are very much people buddies. They honestly believe they are people, who must live inside with you. They go everywhere with their owners. If they’re left on their own, they are escape artists, will howl something very fierce and will dig your yard apart.

      @YetisPlace  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you have air conditioning, a Samoyed would be ok. Never trim their coats. My first Samoyed, was born in June and we brought him home in August. Your pup would get along well with your French Bulldog. My first Samoyed, would often see a Frenchie, while on his walks. He loved seeing that dog. You’ll want to crate train your Sam and provide plenty of activity. Thanks for askin, Laura Barbara. Best wishes to you.

      Oh yes. Their grooming demands are extensive. Yeti sheds so much, his fur gets into our air vents and has resulted in trouble with our heating and cooling system. We’ll eventually have to have our vents blown out professionally. His fur gets on my toothbrush, our plates, wearing black is always fun. Even when you use a lint brush before leaving home, by the time you get to your location, you get out of the car covered in dog fur. But, I wouldn’t trade it for the world. They’re the right breed for me and I adore them.

      Here’s a good video for you to watch, Mustafa Hayati. m.th-cam.com/video/Gmz7iVIYjmk/w-d-xo.html
      Samoyeds aren’t good first time dogs, due to their high energy demands, inquisitive nature and being demanding, talkative dogs. However, by watching our videos, Yeti and I talk about how to make them a good fit. Walk a lot, many times daily. Play a lot, give them plenty of exercise. A Samoyed who’s tired, is a good Samoyed. If they get bored and have tons of energy, they become destructive and will eat your house. Watch more of our videos to know how to handle them.

      Hello, Professor bean. Both Sammies and Huskies originated in Siberia, so they both love the cold. Huskies are marathon runners. Sammies are short distance runners, but are quite strong, having pulled sleds and hauled wood in Siberia. They both require a lot of play time, plenty of exercise and owners who are unwilling to let the doggie take the reins. You would do absolutely fine with a Sammie. Sammies love their owners and all visitors. They don’t have a single mean bone in their fuzzy bodies. They’re inside dogs and love hanging out with their people. Bring your Sam everywhere with you. Thanks for taking the time to comment and watch, Professor bean!

    Do samoyeds like to listen to their owner? I loved how the herding breed like kelpie, aussies and shepherds are working dogs by listening to their owners giving them tasks to do, but even if the samoyed was herding reindeer, they seem to have more the polar dog personality of wanting to do their own thing...? Because then I don't get how agility is a good sport if they're not interested in following commands and listening to the owner? Trying to understand their behaviour virtually is so difficult haha!

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is tricky to understand a Sammie, unless you’ve been an owner for awhile and learn how to work with them.
      The breeds you’ve mentioned, aren’t working dogs, but are herding dogs.
      Working dogs, love to work in whichever task you assign. The harder they work, the easier it is to train and work with them. That’s why they love agility so much. It causes them to think and work.

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have to train them by involving games, play and plenty of fun. That’s how they’ll listen. Agility involves all of that.

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Samoyeds are active, working dogs. Helen, I feed Yeti twice daily. I give him enough food so he leaves some in his bowl. He is very active and gets a lot of exercise. Started training him the times of day to day to eat, by putting his food away after about 20 minutes. Once he was potty trained and learned the times to eat, I now leave his food out for him all day. He eats it in the morning and in the evening, while I’m eating. Thanks for the great question, Helen! Thank you so much for watching and commenting!

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello, James- Liu Chen. They can live in warm areas, as long as you have air conditioning to keep them comfortable. I know Samoyeds who live in Vietnam, Belize and in the southern United States. They live in air conditioning and their owners bring plenty of cold water while walking them. They walk them in the early mornings and after sunset to help keep them more comfortable.

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Samoyeds are among the smartest of dogs, as most northern breed dogs are. They just don’t want to listen to people. If you’re allergic, it would not be a good breed for you. The reason is, pollen and other allergens get in their fur and it’s brought inside. They are not outside living dogs, must always be with their families all the time. If you’re where it’s hot, they’re not a good breed for that, unless you have air conditioning. I’m afraid that, as much as you love seeing this beautiful breed, they may not be a good fit for you. You’re welcome to watch more of our videos and thank you so much for commenting.

We use a Shop Vac, commercial grade vacuum, like what you’d use in a wood shop. The big, commercial grade, loud vacuums with only a hose. Works wonderfully!

    How long can a Sammy stay alone

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you crate train, they’re okay if they’re left alone for 8 hours. Once they’re old enough to not eat your house and are fully potty trained, they don’t have to be in their crate, which is normally around age 2.

    Im not sure what to Think about your Video. this video give me mixed feelings. I found my Sammy when she was 5/6 months ( somebody left her and she was walking around the streets) form the first day she was incredible. there were no issuses with her behaving badly . The only time she dig a hole was when there was hot as hell . potty practise - took us 1 week. she never did anything or ate antyhing she shouldnt . she a member of our family almost 6 years now. She barks when she want attention or play , but when she is in home alnoe the is no howling or barking . Samoyeds got quite popular lately , but some people shouldnt have a dog. my vet had recently told me theres new Samoyed in my neighberhood . his was 2 hostpitalized . First time washing machine tablets,then some strows . i am aware the just like with kids you can prevent everything , but in the same time im not with het all the time . i think the if people really need a dog maybe you sholud take him later then sooner. a while a ago people buy dos when there ware 3/4 months old . now its lkie 8 / 10 weeks.

      Thank you so much for commenting, Lusia. I have only owned boy Samoyeds and have been surrounded by boy Samoyeds for decades. They all have different tendencies. Yeti doesn’t get bored, as I keep him very active and play with him a lot. All of my Sammies were tricky to potty train, because they’d stop playing and instantly have an accident. Glad to hear your’s was easier to potty train. Sammy’s are wonderful additions to families. However, too many people think they’re so pretty (because they are gorgeous), but they don’t know anything about the breed. They buy a Samoyed, become overwhelmed by their independent natures and their crazy antics and they decide a Sam isn’t a good fit. Therefore, too many Samoyeds end up in shelters. It’s my job as a TH-camr, to teach people about the great points of the gorgeous breed and points that could turn them off about the breed. I love the breed, been around them and owned them for decades. A dog is a best friend, who lives for quite a number of years. Samoyeds love their people, so it’s important to find owners who are willing to allow their dogs to be true family members. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch our video and comment on it. Yeti loves listening to me read comments to him and he really loved hearing about your girls.

    • @YetisPlace

      You did the right thing with educating yourself about dogs. I’ve owned Sammy’s, family members of mine have owned them, so I know about their wonderful nature and how to get them under control when they get bored and start being stinkers. The first Samoyed that I owned, was named Chewy. Chewy’s year and a half older brother dog, Brumus, was owned by family members. They were very very close dogs and loved hanging out together. They had the same Mom and Dad dog. Their mother, was owned by another family member. She loved seeing her boys all grown up. Chewy didn’t know what to think, because she’d get really close to him to cuddle with him and take care of him like a mother does. Chewy was an adult at that time. She remembered her babies. We didn’t see the mother too often because she lived a few hours away. Brumus was owned by family members who live 5 minutes away, so Chewy and Brumus hung out all the time. Now, those owners, own Quimby and Bigby, who come over often. Yeti loves hanging out with them. They love hanging out with Yeti. But, even as adult dogs, when one of them starts to get bored and dig in the yard, eat a wall of the house....they all come running over to find out what the other dog is doing and they all begin to do the stinker filled behavior. Then, when there’s something wonderful happening, they all become involved in the wonderful activity. It goes both ways. You certainly did the right thing in educating yourself. They are so beautiful as 8 week old puppies, absolutely melting your heart. Those little puppies grow into large, shedding dogs, with an active mind and a very active body. Too many people don’t educate themselves about a Samoyed being a working dog, who used to herd reindeer and haul supplies from a sled. They need activity to keep them happy. They buy a Samoyed based on looks alone and end up not knowing their energy level. A Samoyed can live wherever their humans do and be very happy. To be happiest, they love playing and being able to pull you while walking, preferably dog sledding. You must include them in everything you do, they’re very curious, lovable dogs.
