    Hello, I have a problem. After buying a Samoyed, he only pees and poops inside the house. It doesn't matter if we take him for a walk after meals or walk for 3 hours, or if we run and play with him. We even tried giving him more water, but he still refuses to do his business outside. Additionally, when we are outside, he eats every piece of weed he finds and is interested in every stone. He puts everything in his mouth and swallows it. I really don't know what I should do because nothing seems to work. Of course, as soon as we get back home, he takes care of his business right away. He is 11weeks now.

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      A Samoyed, or any other puppy, takes months to train. You need to be prepared for accidents spanning around 7+ months, after getting him.
      Your puppy isn’t delaying your walks by eating grass. He’s exploring his outdoors, which is what a Sammy needs to do.

    since i got my new sammy puppy we dont use crates or anything. Just pure posetive reinforcement. We kinda noticed our dog Asmodai when he wakes up quick harness and leesh on and than out with him we go. Than he complains cause reasons. Than he does hes thing litterly after 2mins. Than he gets praised and a snack. Works like a charm cause now he complains he needs to go out. He is learning fast that tiny rascal. However accidents do happend. Good to hear he’s doing well with potty training. Potty accidents happen through a few months of age. Crates come in handy when you’re not at home. Between 4 months and 2 years old, they’re like velociraptors of terror, eating and destroying your house.

    Thank you for your video. Now I understand there is a second one, and why I had many accident before. Like you said, my 9 weeks old sammy always looks at me during midnight wondering why I want her to go potty while she is enjoying her dream and maybe no need to potty. Most of the time she falls asleep not doing her business. I wake her up but she still refuses to pee. After about 5 minutes, I bring her back to her crate, she crys a bit and then she pees in the crate... Would you give me some advice on how to encourage her to potty during the midnight? Thanks.

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      She's still very young. It can take months of potty training, so please don't get discouraged. Set an alarm for every 2-3 hours overnight. Don't worry, you won't have to be at 2-3 hours for long. Bring her outside, with treats. Once she goes potty, give her a treat and encourage for potty #2. They always need to have 2 potties. She's probably really sleepy when you try to wake her. She also might not understand why she's outside. Encourage her by saying go potty. When she goes outside, give her a lot of praise, give her a pet, treat. Encourage her to have a second potty. That's to completely empty her bladder.
      Be patient with your puppy. It'll take time for her to learn to go outside.

  • @MLJenkins
    @MLJenkins ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You videos are sooo useful! I did not know about the second potty. How long in between does it usually take from first to second potty? If you have a small kennel outside (10’x20’) is it ok to leave them in it for potty time if you have an emergency you have to deal with inside?
    On a related note, how in the world do people that work (not from home) deal with puppies?? Dog sitters or dog care? Just would seem super expensive and hard on training. I work from home and that is why I finally decided to get a puppy (should be here end of Jan). I am trying to learn as much as possible before she gets her because I want to do the best I can for both of us (and my family). I know I won’t get it all right, but I’ll know where to go online if I have questions beyond what the breeder can answer. I also need to find a vet and trainer I like that has experience with Sammies or northern breeds. I plan to do most training myself but it will be best to basically have lesson plans at some point to have an outside opinion (I’ve found in life we individually get very biased on some subjects where we may actually need help).
    I need to figure out something with the carpet though, I worried about that. My office is carpet. I wanted wood flooring but I am just happy to have an office in my home! Worse case it gets destroyed and I spend a day replacing it, but I’m sure the supplies aren’t cheap at this point in time. I plan to keep her in there with me all day. Maybe after all the yipping people will stop inviting me to hour long meetings I don’t need to be on, lol. J/k btw most of my colleagues have dogs and every once in a while someone has to find their mute button quick. 😂

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For working at home, I would place her in a crate in your office, at least for her first few months, until she’s potty trained. Crates will also keep her away from cords.
      If someone has a young puppy and is working, they can have a family member, a dog walker or a friend come over at lunchtime. Otherwise, there’s doggy daycare, which allows for plenty of playtime with other dogs.
      Crate training is key with a new puppy. While your working from home, use a crate. For overnights use a crate. Anytime you’re unable to devote full attention, crate. Your dog will feel safe and protected in a crate.
      For vets, because a vet is an animal doctor, you don’t have to worry about bringing to a Sammy or northern breed experienced vet. They know what’s best for all breeds, better than anyone else. I recommend setting up a vet visit prior to bringing your pup home, so you go see the vet within 48 hours after coming home. All puppies will have worms and all puppies need to be checked. Worms happen from living with their siblings, around their poops and potties. Breeders keep up to date on their first vet checkups prior to you bringing them home. But, all good, reputable breeders, want their pups brought to the vet within your first 48 hours of owning.
      Do not trust online sources. There’s much more inaccurate info on the web than accurate info. Always ask your vet and breeder. They’ll be your best resource.
      For training, it’s key to enroll them in any puppy school that’s available for new/newer puppies. Socialization is the reason why. It’s important to socialize and get them and you used to listening to commands.
      For more intense training after they’ve learned the basics, you’ll want to learn more intense training. I’m going to be working on creating a course for training difficult to train dogs. But, it’ll be a few months. For now, get the book ‘When Pigs Fly.’ It’ll teach you how to work with dogs who don’t care to listen.

      While your puppy is being potty trained, it’s important for you to be outside with them, observing. They won’t know outside is the place to go potty for a number of months.

    I adopted a Sammie, now 11 weeks old. Do you have any recommendations on getting the second potty outside quicker? This boy loves to just play outside and extend his playing time by delaying his potty, and of course the second I bring him in he has an accident.

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Bring on a quick walk around your yard, up/down the driveway, around the block to get that second potty outside. If it’s been awhile in between the first and second potty, you’ll want to bring on a quick walk to get a third potty. Once back in the house, set your alarm/timer, for 30-45 minutes. Bring outside once it goes off.

    If you have a very hot day and the puppy has to go outside what is the recommended time that the puppy has go stay outside?

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Stay outside with your puppy, while on the leash, watching to make sure he/she goes potty twice. If possible, stay in the shade with your puppy. Please don’t walk on hot pavement, because the heat can burn their pads. Put booties on your puppy, if you have to walk on pavement.
      Encourage your puppy to go potty and give praise and really good treats, once they go.
      The moment they do their second potty, bring inside right away.

    I’m really struggling to create a happy puppy in the crate, she’s eating in there it’s all positive reinforcement in there negative interactions are few and far between. Because of this I have our pup in the kitchen at night time with puppy pads and I believe it’s causing confusion for the puppy where they should release. Do you have any advice for me? She’s 11 weeks currently and a dream in every other way.

    • @YetisPlace
      @YetisPlace  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It can be a struggle to potty train. I would not allow her that much space overnight. Puppies don’t like to go potty where they sleep. You can get a puppy playpen if she doesn’t want to sleep in a crate. But, make the puppy playpen area smaller, by blocking off areas. Make it as small as possible, like crate sized. There are some puppy playpens that you can remove pieces of, to make it smaller. Give her a small space. Kitchens are too large.

    • @YetisPlace

      11 weeks old, they have very tiny bladders that aren’t able to last the night. For overnight, they need to be taken outside frequently. One month of age, equals one hour of time. She’s not quite yet 4 months, so I would set your alarm for every 3 hours. Once she turns 4 months, set it for every 4 hours.
